Just returned home after spending four nights here. We have stayed here before several times and it only gets better. This time on the touring area they have wet room showers, oh so lovely. The site is on a working farm in the countryside a few miles from Weymouth and Dorchester. No bars or entertainment but really clean toilets and showers and very peaceful. Great walks for dog owners and a good stretch of sandy beach for dogs in Weymouth, will visit again for sure when in Dorset, do try it.

Just spent a week at this site and must say it was everything we expected and more, the site is really clean everywhere you look, it is perfectly flat and has really good shelter from the wind with nice hedging. The facilities are first class which were cleaned a few times a day and were always spotless and the showers and washing up area give free hot water. Even though it is a working farm it is very dog friendly and a mention must be given to the owners who always had time to chat.

Looking at the other reviews, it would appear that this site suits a lot of people. However, on the positive side the shower block was clean and tidy. However, the reception was a walk away out of the camp site and I did not like this.

There were no gates into the site and we considered the security extremely poor. The site was full of caravans and we thought how busy it was until we realised they were vacant and seasonal storage and owners came for weekends. The site was very drab with black crushed kind of tarmac on each pitch.

No tv signal and no mobile signal and for us we felt extremely cut off and if our family needed to contact us in an emergency, or indeed if we needed to contact anyone in an emergency, it would not have been possible. We only stayed the one night and decided to move on as we were not comfortable.

There was a bus stop outside the site but no one seemed to know how frequent they were and we were told by residents outside that they thought they were two hourly. No bus timetable available.

 Directions:

Easy to find on the coastal road B3157 from Weymouth to Bridport (Lyme Regis), on left coming from Weymouth just before Portesham village which in turn is before the picturesque village of Abbotsbury.

Site Description:

The pitches are commercially spaced, mostly tarmac planes and slightly sloping. Most occupied by larger, all-season caravans. There is a camping field where some tents were also pitched.

Facilities:

The toilet blocks are very clean and modern; even the portable buildings are palatial. Laundry facilities clean but a little pricey. Hot showers are included.

Service:

Very friendly and helpful.

Value:

We paid 51 pounds for 2 adults incl EHU, 3 nights which for the area didn’t seem too bad.

Location:

Portesham is a small attractive village but Abbotsbury is very picturesque. Just outside Portesham going west on the right is a small track, former railway line. This is the route to take for cyclists and pedestrians to visit Abbotsbury. Little muddy when wet but 10 X safer than the coastal road. Chesil beach was a bit disappointing but the atrocious weather didn’t help either.

Receptions:

TV signal weak

Mobile phone signal not good; if at all.

Wi-Fi offered.

Our Opinion:

Nice site but not really suitable for cycling and long stays, would recommend for tranquil overnights.

We had a very pleasant weeks stay at Portesham Dairy Farm, the site is very organised and a map is issued on arrival clearly pointing out all the different pitches, toilet blocks and other facilities etc.

Very well maintained level pitches, the grass was cut on a regular basis and the toilet and shower blocks were spotless and a pleasure to use.

Quiet clean and friendly site in an ideal location to visit all the many local attractions, Portesham is a lovely little village and nearby Abbotsbury well worth a visit along with Portland Bill, Bovington tank museum and Monkey world.

There is no camp or village shop, the nearest supermarkets are in Weymouth a 10/15 minute drive away.

We would recommend this site and will most likley stay here again in the near future.

First outing with our new (but second hand) unit.

This is a great base for exploring the Jurassic Coast and Portland with level and almost perfectly flat pitches.

The toilet and showers are more than adequate.

The villages of Portesham and Abbotsbury are just beautiful; the village pub is well worth a visit.

Would seriously consider returning to this campsite and I think it represents excellent value for money.

Visited this site three times already this year and we plan to return again. Very friendly couple, Malcolm and Sarah who work very hard to maintain this site to a high standard.

Easy to find, located on outskirts of village so you do not have to drive miles along unmaintained lanes.

The site is level with lots of space between pitches and set off of the road so it is quiet and tranquil. Lots of wildlife and birds! Good facilities.

There are two modern toilet and shower blocks and they are kept very clean. Although we do not have children the small playground is well maintained and safe and seemed to be popular by those who used it.

The rates are reasonable and it is well situated for visiting the local area and beaches. Weymouth and Portland are only a short drive away on good roads.

There is the choice of storage if you do not want to tow your van during the season, they also offer winter storage.

Lots to do nearby and the local pub (takes only 5 mins to walk to) serves excellent food with lots of choice.

We would recommend this to anyone who wants a quiet, clean, friendly and accessible site.

I liked this site because it has the feeling of being in a field - well you are if you were we where - in the middle of the serviced elec field - I guess we were lucky as it was quiet.

Portesham is a lovely village - didn't try the pub but it's very picturesque. When they talk about the Hardy monument they mean Hardy from the battle of Trafalgar not Thomas Hardy which momentarily threw me! Anyway we had come to the area to get some stone from Portland so took a chance on the campsite on the way down the B road - fantastic views of Chesil beach and Abbotsbury was lovely.

The toilet block is pretty unusual but really quite posh - fancy lighting and those sinks that you have to work on a sensor. The showers are lacking in hooks though, I went for one and stupidly put the towel on the floor - don't know why must have thought for some reason that part wouldn't get wet - ha ha - you'd think I'd know given the number of different shower cubicles I've been in - suffice to say everything gets wet on the shower floor so must be completely level - the shower is split in two with the actual shower one side of a partition and then the changing area the other but as I said the whole floor gets soaked which is a pain because the whole floor then gets mucky, although strangely it was only mucky (not much) in the shower bit when I went in not the outside bit which was why I thought I could get away with putting stuff on the floor but no.

Went for a walk round Portesham at night and there were bats by the duckpond - possibly Daubentons? Would definitely visit this site again.

Just back from a three night stay at this site. We had a great time. Level pitches, choice of electric hook up or hard standing for trailer and caravans.

We have a six man tent and a large canopy which fitted onto the pitch fine but a bigger tent may struggle. We also had electric hook up and even at short notice managed to get a pitch on this fairly quiet site.

The site is well maintained, the new shower and toilet blocks are lovely and free! The wash up area is enclosed too making it a pleasanter experience. The kids play area could do with a make over but at least it had one.

The pub just up the road cooks proper food, non of this microwaved rubbish but you do have a wait for it. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere.

It's a 15 minute drive to Weymouth but it's a pleasant one. We had a great time and would return. Also liked the fact the site goes super quiet at 10pm

so if you like to have a beer and music at night this site isn't for you.

Fabulous site. The pitch fee was very modest and the pitch of generous size, and, remarkably in Dorset, completely level.

The bathroom facilities for the touring field are housed in unpromising looking converted containers, but inside they were a total revelation - wetrooms, hidden mood lighting, and clean as a whistle. And, happily, the provision of facilities is ample for the size of the site.

There's a very good dog walking area along the former trackbed of the disused railway. The site is located within a gentle walk of the sea and the famous Hardy memorial.

Unfortunately, the village has no shop, and neither does the site, so stock up. Highly recommended.
