We went to Nantcol Waterfalls with our friends and their three young children and had a fabulous time. It was pretty muddy due to torrential rain just before we arrived but as long as you had wellies the site was manageable! It did mean that the river was quite high and when you were lying in bed you could hear the sound of rushing water. Lovely.

The facilities were clean and tidy and we didn't really have to queue for them too much. We only occasionally had to wait for the washing up sinks.

The owner Aled and his family were so helpful. His son came around selling logs in the evening and it was lovely to be able to have a campfire. The road to the campsite is really narrow but as long as you take it slowly it is fine (wouldn't fancy reversing a caravan up there though!)

All in all a beautiful site, with fab walks nearby and we would definitely go again. !0 out of 10 from us!

Just got back from a 10 days stay to this lovely site. What can I say other than how lovely peaceful this site was. We have young children 13 mnt, 3 and 4 years of age and they loved it lots of room to run around, the pitches are very close together so we are lucky that we had great people either side.

New toilet block, cleaned all the time, plug sockets, little shop but the nearest village has a camping shop and had anything you forget. Alan always around and went around at least twice a day so if you had a problem you could speak to him. We had two dogs that loved the attention.

At night you can hear the falls which was lovely. We did have a very bad down pour that was heavy through the night and ended up the front of our tent flooded and we discovered that we need to retreat the seems of the tent lol nice way to find out lol the camp owner had never known it that heavy so I think we were just unlucky. His son comes around with the fire wood, his a lovely boy and a credit to alan very kind and if you have a problem he can help. The bags of wood are £4 a bag, cant get cheaper else where ( we looked ) but that's not bad at all compared to most camp site now charging £15 a bag. If I was to say a down side it wouldn't be about the site, only the roads coming up to it very small and narrow hated meeting on coming traffic but it was lovely made some lovely friends and will be going back well worth the 7 hour trip from Essex.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this campsite from august 22nd till the 25th and couldn't have been more pleased! We initially wanted to stay at shell island but due to bad reviews, we decided against and are thoroughly glad we did!

This campsite is small and cosy and very friendly! the surroundings are beautiful and has 3 walk choices you can go on! my boyfriend and I decided to have a stole on the riverside walk that took you right up to the top of the mountain where the waterfall more or less starts! soooo gorgeous and relaxing!

The shower block was well maintained, even though a small wait at peak times. The ladies toilet block had toilet paper and hand soap! which surprised me as I brought my own. It also had 3 lovely mirrors and 2 sockets for hair dryers etc. It was all maintained to very high standards! (and I am VERY picky)

The owners children come around at night about 5/6ish selling big bags of logs for £5 and smaller bundles of logs for £1, my boyfriend bought one bag of big logs that lasted us 3 days and just bought new bundles of smaller ones each night.

The reception is also a little shop which is well stocked with foody stuff and icecreams etc for the kids. Also plenty of warm drinks! all the staff are so lovely and friendly!

Deff pre-book in advance as it does fill up quickly!

Also take wet suits if your wanting to swim in lake as it is a tad cold, I did notice the kids had inflatable boats and rings. My boyfriend bought a ring and used it on the river. The water is calm down by the tents, but as always you need to be careful!

Even though dogs are allowed on the campsite, it was still very quiet and hardly heard dogs barking. Or seen any dog mess!

Overall I would rate the campsite 10/10!

 This site is fab

We went for a 4 night stay and loved every minute of it, our 8 yr old daughter loved the 'pools' made in the river that runs through the site, the dog liked them too !

From the minute you arrive and book in the staff cannot be more helpful, the pitches are nice and flat, we had an EHU and loved the fact that we could have camp fires, toasting marshmellows became an evening ritual.

Firewood can be bought from Aled as he comes round the site of an evening, although we found this wood a bit damp for burning and found it cheaper to buy a bag of logs from the village store when we returned from our days out.

The toilets were nice and clean but we did find that it looked like the showers were not cleaned as often, we thought this as the same shower we used for 3 of our days had the same hairbands and hair on the window ceil, also the shower token can only be used for one shower, we thought taking the card from the reader would stop the water, it doesn't so where we could have had 2 showers with one token we waisted the water as it continued to run until it timed out

We were very lucky in that when we went the weather was fab also with temps of 29 degrees each day, that helped us have a great time on this site, we're even thinking of going back next year.

Just returned last night after our second holiday there in successive years. This is an amazing site, especially if you have a family. Facilities include 3 showers (50p per shower on a card system), toilets, washing up area, and a small shop on site, plus disabled toilet/shower room. Toilets and showers are clean and comfortable, and you rarely have to wait long to use them.

The site is situated in some of the most beautiful countryside ever, right near the Nantcol falls. The water running through the site is safe for the kids to swim in, build dams, swing into, and my 2 boys aged 8 and 5 just spent 12 days running wild and having what they described as the best time ever.

The local village of Llanbedr has a couple of shops including a lovely deli and great butcher, and a very nice pub, but not in easy walking distance of the site.

We met lots of people on the site, and it doesn't seem to attract any trouble, just nice, friendly campers and families. It has become busier as word spreads however, so it is advisable to book first.

Open fires are allowed, and for me really help to enhance the whole experience. Logs are brought round each night, or can be got at the village shop.

The site is subject to unpredictable weather, and while there we survived one of the worst thunder storms I have ever been in. But camping in Wales, you have to accept it's going to rain. However, as you park near your tent, certain areas do become muddy during the wet from through traffic.

Finally, the site owners are very friendly and helpful. They have a set of fair and basic rules, are very relaxed, and I have never been made to feel as welcome as I do at this site, and we will be going back for years to come.

I stayed at Nantcol for 3 nights with my boyfriend & our dog. The weather was awful which normally spoils a good holiday but we still had a great time!

The family who own the farm are lovely & they create a laid back atmosphere (& do not go on about the rules).

We set up right next to the river & the view was lovely. You can buy wood for the fire every night for £4 (you get a big bag). The showers where clean & hot (only 3 but it was not busy when we went) & you can buy a shower card for 50p which lasts 5 minutes.

There are sockets in the toilet block for hair dryers etc. It cost us £15 a night (2 adults & our dog) for our tent.

Barmouth is 15 mins drive & shell island is 5 minutes, both a nice day out.

I would recommend this site if you want to relax & enjoy it without having to worry about too many rules.

Love this site camped by the riverside and sat at night with campfire listening to the water very relaxing. Great walks to the waterfalls and through the forests locally. Excellent facilities, plug sockets in ladies loos, only 2 washing up sinks but not a long wait and opportunity to chat to fellow campers.

Owners great very helpful in shop and lovely young man who comes round selling wood. Great site in great location highly recommend. Best to ring first to book as sign on site says full think they prefer pre bookers!

This has got to be one of the best campsites I have ever been to. It was the first time I'd taken my children and my brother camping all aged 8 at the time and they loved it.

We camped right next to the river so it was lovely to sit with the fire going watching the water. The kids loved paddling in it despite the fact that we were unlucky with the weather. The facilities are spot on and very clean, everything is reasonably priced. Very peaceful setting, even saw a few shooting stars! Excellent access to good places to visit such as portmerion, the various mines, gorgeous beaches and such like. Harlech castle is very close by. A great castle and the surrounding town was lovely. Also had a brilliant icecream shop.

The site itself has lovely areas for walking. The only negative with our trip was the weather and even that couldn't stop us from having a good time. The best bit has to be the rare treat of having such fantastic facilities but also being allowed a real campfire. The boys certainly thought this was one of the best bits, that and the rope swings across the river.

The campsite is fairly busy but quiet, I think everyone there was very respectful of the surroundings.

Overall verdict, all the best bits about camping with the added luxury of great facilities. Will definitely be returning.

Brilliant! The kids loved it. Made some lovely friends and we felt happy that they were safe, playing within the site.I would recommend for anyone but especially those with children.

The walks taking in the waterfalls are lovely. Can't wait to go back again. Okay I shall try to be practical. I found the approach to the site a bit tricky but I will admit to being a nervous driver. As long as you are aware that it is a single track and take the necessary precautions there shouldn't be a problem.

The site is well run and the facilities are regularly cleaned. They did get muddy but that is to be expected as it was raining. As with most sites I guess they could benefit from some extra washup sinks as there is only two for the whole site. But this didn't prove a problem to us as we timed it to washup when others were finished.

Really chilled relaxed atmosphere, we had a camp fire each night, bought the logs on site and it can be a tad expensive if you run to more than one bag like we did.

We loved sitting by the campfire with a glass of vino. I can't say enough good things about this site.Fab, Brill Great.

One of the best sites we have ever visited in Wales, kids loved it, very clean. My only downer was how many tent pegs I bent. Will be going back in a few weeks time. I put the postcode in my satnav, found it no problem, just watch the sign when you get to the camp, it looks like you have to go up the hill- don't! make sure you go down the hill to the right, had one hell of a time turning around.
