What a fantastic campsite! From the moment of booking I felt pleased with our choice. I was booking for a large group of adults and children and had to make a number of alterations to the booking and was never made to feel like a hindrance. The lane to the site is narrow and when meeting cars coming the other way could be an issue for caravans - definitely some careful negotiation recommended. Upon arrival the owner made us feel very welcome. We had hookup and the pitches were huge. We got a caravan, motorhome, 4 tents and four cars on three pitches! Our hookup did not reach and the owner kindly lent us one of theirs. The site is very clean and has 24 hour CCTV which with young children made me feel secure. A word to the wise my 5 year old loved playing in the muddy ditch and water and got covered in mud within the first 1/2 hour so pack loads of clothes. The site does have a launderette with washer and driers. Their is a little shop which sells logs for the fires which was a great bonus. We didn't travel round the area but the waterfall walk and reservoir walk were beautiful. There are lots of sheep around and birds so if you are a light sleeper I would definitely take ear plugs.
I personally think that a wooden playground area would be a great addition to the site.
We will certainly be going back!

One of the best sites I've stayed at. Had a lovely long weekend stay here in-spite of the dipping in the temperature.
The owners are very friendly and the whole site feels very laid back & relaxed. On arrival reception was closed, however there where instructions to pitch up and the owners would come & find us later.
I felt very safe on the site and my children, 3 & 7 where quite happy to go & explore.
The surrounding area is beautiful, and the waterfalls & streams where great to play in.
The shower block & toilets are some of the best I've seen, very clean.
The best thing about this site is you are free to have campfires, buying bags of logs from the shop.
Would definitely return, hopefully in warmer weather.

Even the fact it was snowing could not stop this being a fabulous camp site.
The toilets, showers, and washing up facilities are some of the best we have seen, spotlessly clean with a ready supply of hot water to all sinks.
The owners are friendly and helpful and the site is clearly well cared for and maintained. It is a beautiful location with easy access to Snowdonia and waterfall walks on site.
As some previous reviewers have said though you really do need those rock pegs.
We will definitely be going back but in warmer weather next time I think.

This was to be my base for three days as I did a North to South tour of Wales.
On arrival (Saturday), the site was very busy, but I had been allocated a generous pitch with electric hookup. It is rare to find a site which gives you the best of both worlds in terms of facilities. Many sites which allow campfires are rough and ready basic sites. This site however, offers campfires, electric hookup, decent clean toilet, shower and wash up facilities. The site is in a great location for exploring both Northern and Southern Snowdonia with stunning coastal scenery and beaches nearby. The owners are welcoming, pleasant and always happy to help. The nearest big supermarket that I am aware of is Tesco in Porthmadog; do try to visit some of the local shops though. The village stores in Llanbedr have a fantastic cheese selection.
First night to be honest, was a bit of a nightmare. A spontaneous group formed, without the owners permission and they made a racket until the early hours. They left the next day and so did about two thirds of the site. This resulted in blissful quiet evenings sat by the fire listening to it crackle, along with the soothing sounds of the waterfalls in the background. The waterfalls are worth a look. I was being too lazy to do the full hour and 1/2 walk.
Really nice campsite!

Having recently spent a week at this fantastic site I would just love to recommend this site to everyone.
Excellent location the river and waterfalls the child friendly walks in the beautiful surrounding area.
The owners are friendly and more than helpful with advice and assistance.
The facilities are new clean modern and a brilliant standard.
We had a great time even with the weather the other campers all agreed it would be a site that we would all come back to.
The Victoria pub is very nice with fast friendly service and very reasonable prices.
The children all loved playing in the river and the rope swings.
The only advice I would give is the need for rock pegs!

Just returned from our first visit to this site, it will definitely not be our last!
Fantastic time was had by us all, we were a party of 20 over 3 tent electric pitches.
Electric never tripped even through 2 wonderful storms.
The pitch sizes were good but the ground from a ll the rain was like a marsh and the tents did start to sink a little over the fortnight. The owner was very understanding though and had his son deliver 3 tractor loads of straw over the fortnight to try and soak some excess water and mud up. When the straw ran dry though we were told to cut down ferns which wasn't very practical and didn't soak up the water or the mud which in places was ankle deep.
The lake and water area was excellent fun for us all and the river side walk and waterfalls gave us days of fun and adventure, the kids never stopped from getting up to going to bed.
Camp fires were lit every night by most campers whatever the weather.
The shop sold all basic things, ice cream, milk, eggs! not much else.
The showers were clean and to say how few there is we only qued once. The down side to the showers is the water temp is set for you which is good for us adults but was too hot for our 3 year old. 5 minutes is also not long enough for ladies to wash and condition hair plus bodies!
Toilets were always clean and toilet roll was always available but soap ran out frequently in the loos.
This site really needs a washing machine, as clothes got very muddy and wet.
There is a little village shop and pub and 10 minute drive away nearest shopping was 30 minutes away beaches in the area are excellent and there is plenty to do out and about for adults and kids alike.
Although the site was very busy at times once evening came everyone kept the noise to a good level.
Vodafone has a good signal so if you want wifi your better with this dongle, orange and o2 was a shocking signal.
Overall we loved this site location and friendliness of the owners will definitely return.

We have just got back from 5 nights at Nantcol Waterfalls.
We arrived on Monday 27th August 2012, it was raining hard!, our tent has to be pitched inner tent first, as a result, it was waterlogged. To be honest I felt like packing up and coming home. I asked the wardens for a mop and bucket (expecting to hear 'no we don't lend them out') The warden said 'go back to your tent', 'we will bring one out to you. After an hour of mopping out the inside of the tent, we could set up camp.
Some people have complained about the access road, but its really not that bad, if you arrive after lunch, most caravans and trailers will left by then. There are plenty of passing places with enough room to get past anyway.
The ground is very rocky and I bent most of our tent pegs trying to pitch. But rock pegs would've been perfect. Like I said the weather on Monday was horrible, so we went to the 'victoria inn' in Llambedr the food was superb.
On Tuesday the weather was great, and it became VERY clear why this site has very little bad said about it. The pitches were very large, not as flat as we could've done with, or as well drained as we wouldve liked, but they were big and well situated for the facilities.
The facilities were almost perfect! The toilet and shower blocks are cleaned daily, and if anyone was to complain about anything, it was dealt with immediately by the wardens. The 5 sinks were more than adequate, and the new shower block prevents queues of longer than 10 minutes at peak times. The only criticism I have of the showers are that they are sometimes a little hot for kids, and there is no heat adjustment.
The stream was very enjoyable for kids and adults alike, although this is real water from real Welsh mountains, and as such is very cold.
So after a few hours playing in the stream with the kids, building dams, swinging on the rope swings (these don't belong to the site) we were very cold, so what better way to warm up than sitting by a real fire? with a bottle of cider?
We did wonder however if the site has ever considered a 'proper' play area for the younger kids away from the river. We think that this may make a big difference to people with younger kids.
My family and I enjoyed every minute of our stay (once we had dried out on Monday) and would like to offer our sincerest thanks to the wardens at Nantcol who made our stay so wonderful.
Nantcol isnt the cheapest site in the area, but we feel that it is worth the money to be made to feel so welcome, and for such a calm atmosphere.
Will we visit again? Hell yeah! cant wait till next year!

We stayed here for a long weekend and the scenery is beautiful! The kids had a great time playing in the stream and climbing the waterfall walk.
The pitches are large and spacious and largely level. Although there are no designated campfire pits and so previous holiday makers had lit fires all over the pitch and scorched the ground leaving pot holes that made it difficult to find a usable spot.
The showers and toilets are adequate, but not clean. Toilet tissue ran out and I was told by my husband that the mens toilet had no soap in the dispensers the whole time we were away. It was not too busy but we could imagine that when the site was full the queues would build.
We found the site wonderfully peaceful during the day but at night it became a very loud place. The first two nights a neighbour camper played loud music until eleven and then proceeded to shout his conversations until the early hours. The third night a group of campers again stayed up until the early hours talk and were extremely loud. Although it sounded like they were having fun we struggled to get to sleep again until the early hours.
I think you need to consider what is important to you for a relaxing camping holiday. If you want a peaceful country campsite this might not be the one. If you want to get away with friends and relax in beautiful surroundings and aren't too bothered about noise or clean toilets then you'll have a wonderful time!
For me the site would be fantastic if only a little more care was taken over the facilities and perhaps provided a warden to keep order. Reception was only manned between 10 - 4 and when it was closed there was no emergency phone or number made available, (mobile phone reception is nil), considering the open fires I would prefer at least a public phone for campers use.

Simply put we had the best 6 days camping ever and we have been camping for a long time now!
The site and owners are a delight. Clean and good showers. Always clean and the site was full. Open fires every night with the wood delivered to our tent.
The children loved it. The field always had plenty of space for them to play in (bit less at weekend but this was to be expected). The river is wonderful. Spent one entire day sitting beside while the kids messed about in the river. Truly relaxing. Also places to swim.
The surrounding area was beautiful. Take a walk up stream into the hills and you will find picnic spot after spot. Great beach at Barmouth. Harlech and castle worth a visit. Two local pubs not very good on food but great gardens. Good butcher and general store in the village. When we go again we will travel a bit further to eat out.
We were blessed with Spanish like sun for 5 of the 6 days during the summer of 2012. Incredibly lucky. Thankfully the site shop sells some the best ice cream you will find anywhere. Really can't wait to go again.

My family and I stayed here for the first time the week before the bank holiday. There were 4 adults and 3 children aged 15, 12 and 9.
We found the site to be lovely, one of the best we have stayed at in over 30 years of camping.
The 3 fields were level and previous campers didn't leave any rubbish
As previous reviewers have said the small river was a great attraction even when it was in flood!
Very good toilet and shower facilities and the wash up sinks were great, under cover and most campers left them clean and tidy.
The toilet and shower blocks were cleaned 3 times a day, the first clean being at 5. 30am! but to be honest this wouldn't be necessary if parents taught their children how to use the toilet i. E. Flushing it and putting waste into the bins provided and why oh why do they allow their children to play around them? there is acres of natural playground available.
The owners were very helpful and pointed out that you could get a perfectly good mobile phone signal if you just walked up the hill high enough (5 mins walk) and past the delightful ferrets :-).
We found the Queen Victoria a nightmare to get a meal, full of shrieking children allowed to run riot, but the place was very busy and maybe it would have been wise to go later than 7. 30 pm. We drove into Harlech instead and had a lovely meal at the Lion Hotel.
Harlech Castle is stunning and at only £3. 50 per adult is good value for a few hours on a wet day.
Portmadog isn't far for stocking up on food etc, there is a Tesco (petrol station) lots of nice cafes etc. Use the toll bridge 50p return
The beach was a great delight, half being dogless and the other half where dogs were allowed, this was the best bit, lovely rock pools, and lots of space for them to run. There are toilets, a cafe and a little shop that sold essential buckets and spades etc for the little (and not so little) ones.
The on site shop sold wonderful icecream, bread, milk and chocolate bars, wi fi and the farmers son delivered logs for the campfires in the evening at £4 per big bag.
Would we go back? you betcha!
