A very nice campsite. Went there on my own with the dog, arrived on a Friday afternoon and bagged a nice spot, not too close to the river as it looked busy (riverside is popular and noisy)
Camp site itself is very nice, the fields are open enough to find somewhere to camp with trees around for added seclusion. The river & waterfall are what make this campsite for me and they are lovely. With picnic tables near the water's edge.
There is a Children's nature trail by the river. A riverside walk that takes you up over the hill & a larger circular walk & woodland walk to keep you occupied.
Facilities are brand new & have some teething issues - cards work but shower doesn't always come on (buy a couple of extra cards until problem is resolved) Be warned though: showers were VERY hot (too hot for me, let alone children I imagine)
Also: new, nice facilities, but owner needs to keep on top of the cleaning. Sinks, hand driers, showers (esp the curtains) need cleaning more regularly.
The ability to have a fire is a lovely idea that I didn't utilise myself (not much point on my own) but was very very popular with everyone else.
There isn't a shop & the reception wasn't finished yet (but looked very near). There are a couple of nice pubs in the village that are just a short 1-2 miles walk down the hill (it's easier on the way back after a couple of pints)
The owner is very friendly and helpful and all in all I'd thoroughly recommend this site to anyone. Especially if you can get there mid week when it's quieter.

We spent a lovely hot weekend here, the campsite had lovely surrounds, there was some nice circular walks around the site. It was fantastic to be able to have a camp fire and the owner drove round regularly selling wood. Great to be so near to the waterfalls and river. At times it was very noisy, although the site was not full, there was lots of shouting from people playing in the water, and music at night so if you want a quiet site I don't think this is the place! Not many places to visit around the area. Limited local shops for buying food, would recommend taking a good food supply from home. Toilet block clean, showers good, although found it hard to actually purchase tokens. On the whole a good campsite especially if you have children.

We visited this site at the end of May during that glorius hot spell. What a site! We were bowled over. There is a new, clean toilet/shower block, with washing-up facilities, A soon-to-be-completed reception block which will have freezer pack freezing facilities, and a mobile phone charging point (so Aled, the owner, told me).
The site caters for tents, motorhomes and caravans, and has 20-odd electric hook-up points. The atmosphere of the site is welcoming and friendly. You can buy sacks of firewood to build a campfire from Aled as he visits the site regularly during the day. This, for us, was a real treat, althought we did smell a bit of woodsmoke. But that's part of the fun!
There are plenty of walks in and around the site, that take you to the falls, and along the river. This river is gin-clear, and my kids spent hours playing in it.
The only critisism, if you can call it that, is that I wish they would carry a few basic food items to sell. The nearest shop is over a mile away.
Overall I would definitely recommend this site to anyone who likes a quiet time, but with some atmosphere.
WE SHALL RETURN!

Well, I've been going to this site for a few years now. I've been here on my own for a retreat and I've been here with my wife and children. Nantcol has never failed me. The site is set in a valley approx 2 miles inland from the village of Llanbedr. If travelling out, it is roughly 10 mins from shell island and 25 minutes to Barmouth. Following on from the last reviewer, the toilet and shower blocks are now completed and open. They are kept very nice and clean. The showers are operated by purchasing a card from the owner (Aled) and cost 50p for 5 minutes. The card system is to ensure that the showers are used only by campers and not day visitors. The area is of outstanding natural beauty. A great base for walkers. The waterfalls are stunning. You can camp overlooking the streams as they meander from the foot of the falls. Log fires are allowed and Aled sells kindling and logs. Prices are £7 per adult and £3 per child per night. We arrived Friday evening Whit BH weekend and it was raining heavy and the ground was vbery muddy. However, as I've learned from previous years, the ground drains excellently well and soon dries off. Take spare tent pegs as you'll bend a few. The area used to be an old glacier many moons ago and has many rocks and boulders above ground and below so you're sure to bend a few pegs. I'm trying to be balanced in my view of this site and provide constructive criticism but I can't think what I would criticize. Just try it for yourselves.
Many thanks to Aled for his hard work and dedication in keeping this site a haven for those who appreciate camping in stunning nature.

The site and surroundings are set in a beautiful, wooded, rugged area with views of the sea and big mountains a 5 minute walk up the hill, waterfalls cascading not a 100 yards where you pitch. No noisy teens or traffic, just the sound of water. Proper campfires are allowed which is great for the true camper (we cooked all our food on the fire, great!) A great place for exploring north Wales. Cons: toilet blocks not finished yet and portaloos unusable due to being full up, bring your own loo! Other campers leaving all their rubbish onsite when they leave which gets strewn / blown all over the place, not nice! The recycling boxes are a good idea though.
A nice little site and we will be back.

The first time I ever stayed at this site was in Feb on possibly the coldest, clearest and most beautiful weekend I have ever witnessed in North Wales. The sun shone for three days without a cloud in sight, at night the temp was approx -10, it gave this stunning site another perspective. There are not many around like this anymore, the place and the owner get a 5 star rating from me

Lanbedre speaks for itself,
The best site in Wales by far. This will be my 9th year and I usually go 4 to 5 times a year.
You couldnt pick a more chilled location to relax unwind and meet new people. The farmer Aled is more chilled out than the site its self. His wife and family always make you feel welcome along with the regulars year after year. Looking forward to Easter 2008 and seeing everyone so see you there.

I dont think anybody could choose a better site to relax, chill out and enjoy whats around you. Children love it and adults love it as its a very safe site. You are not pressured by anybody and you have the choice to park and pitch anywhere. Go and give it a try and walk the hills behind the site SUPERB.

I had 2fab visits here in 2007. The 2nd was to celebrate my 50th birthday! It is really lovely here. The owners are extremely nice people and all the people we have met have been really friendly. I enjoyed it so much I continue to recommend it to others even now. There were only portaloos when I went but I see they have showers now.I loved it when it was basic but hey, showers are an added bonus. I will visit again that's for certain.

Well what can you say, we have stayed here a couple of times and find that in the summer it is still fairly quiet, I think the narrow road up to the falls and the fact that (as said before) the facilities are just portaloos puts people off. There is an honesty box for payment and regular visits from someone who collects the fees. The falls are fantastic and if you are brave enough to face the cold the pool is good for a dip. Wonderful walks from the site and Harlech and Barmouth are a short drive away, as is shell island. GREAT!
