We visited Nantcoll in the August bank holiday week and I have to say this is one of the best campsites I have ever been to. We absolutely loved it! There are two fields, one of them electric hook up and the other non electric. We stayed on the electric field. The pitches are massive, I really do mean massive. Our tent is a bit of beast and with that the awning, the tarp and two windbreaks we still had masses of room, so much so our friends put their tent on our pitch as well. It has such a lovely laid back atmosphere and having the campfires where the kids had their roasted marshmallows was lovely. I loved the fact that the kids had complete freedom to swing off trees and jump in the river, no annoying health and safety rules. The owners of the campsite are so lovely as well, I felt like we had made friends for life with them, we even brought one of their dogs home with us to live. There are some negative reviews (not many) about the lack of showers and toilets. Well we were there when the site was full and I never had to wait for a shower or a toilet. They are immaculate, showers always hot and the idea of having shower cards at 50p a card really does stop people hogging the showers for too long. When you arrive remember to buy a few shower cards so when you wake up the next morning and head off down you don't strip off get into the shower only to realise you don't have a card! We loved loved loved it and are already booking in for next year.

Wow! Amazing site. A little hard to get to with sat nav but once you're there it is brilliant. When you get your bearings, there is an easier route to take to get to main roads. The 'sheep trails'(but still tarmaced) we were taken on were an adventure but didn't fancy the constant opening and closing of gates every 50 yards or so.
A mixture of tent and tourer pitches, some with and some without hook up (if you want a pitch near the river, best take a torch!)
We were on a tent pitch with hook up and the space was massive. Plenty of room for our tent (Kampa Croyde 8), 2 cars and still enough space for a large campfire and for us all to sit around.
Site staff were very welcoming and friendly and the facillities were very good (could possibly do with larger washing/shower block but never had any trouble). These were also cleaned at regular intervals. Toilets and washing up areas were very good and clean too making the whole stay that much more enjoyable - my compliments once more to the staff.
Barmouth is a 15 - 20 minute drive (south) and has all the usual 'seaside town' facillities (super market/Pharmacy/gift shops etc) but the nearest big super market is quite a hike (a good 3/4 hour away)
For those that fancy it; Snowden is 1. 5 hrs away (Llanberis) but takes you through some magnificent scenery (a stop at Beddgellert is a must) but please remember to book tickets in advance if you want to take the train up; we didn't and had to wait 5 hours (+ 2. 5 hours to the summit and back) so it makes for a long day - especially with little ones.
Harlech is another activity for those interested in Castles and is only 10 min drive north, whilst Shell Island has a fantastic beach to explore and is only 10 mins away (watch out for the tides as the access road floods at high tide)
All said, we had an amazing time and highly recommend this site. We will deffinately visit again!

A lovely site with good clean facilities and courteous staff. The kids loved the river which is not too deep. Kids and adults loved the open fires. There are plenty of walks from the campsite both out into the countryside and also into Llanbedr where there are a couple of pubs and shops.
One word of warning take plenty of insect repellent the midges were out in force.

This is a fantastic campsite. We did have a week of 80 degree sunshine but on the one morning it rained it did not stop the children going in the river/pool/ waterfall. Pitches were large enough and everyone had a fire pit. Was lovely to light a fire and toast marshmallows till late. There are numerous rope swings set up by previous visitors. One up a hill under a lovely big tree that we could see from our tent, the other favorite one was in the river. In the interests of research I tried this myself and got a very wet bottom but lots of cheers from the children. There isnt a field for the children to play cricket of football but it wasn't packed out so there was enough room inbetween the tent facilities are among the best we have seen. Spotlessly clean. Separate washing room with sinks and plug points, showers separate that were 50p for five minutes that ticked away so you could tell how much you had used. This meant there was never a queue for a shower and five minutes was plenty of time. Lots of pot wash sinks too. There is a little shop that sells icecream and very basic essentials, bread milk but that's about it. The stream is opent to the public to visit but to be honest it didn't get crowded or annoying. My children really did not want to come home from this site a real swallows and amazons adventure. A couple of tiny niggles were the track that approaches had very few passing points and those that were there had a scarey drop to the river. We were lucky that we didn't meet a towing caravan head on as we had a trailor. They really need to address this issue. Also I paid £10 for a weeks wifi as there is absolutely not signal unless you go up to the top of the mountain next to the site and as I needed to stay in touch with home I thought I would blast out. Be warned this is NOT per tent this is per device so you get a code but can only use it for one ipad or phone and the rest of your party have to pay separate. Bit of a rip off I thought or could do a deal for two devices. But this is only a little niggle and would not in anyway put me off going here again. Love it love it

This was our first visit to this site but definitely won't be our last. We had asked for two pitches one for us and one for our family who were joining us within a couple of days. No problem, when we arrived we were told we could choose where we wanted to pitch and to ensure that our family were accommodated next to us, to park our car on their pitch. We have NEVER been to a site where the pitches were so large, honestly, you never get a feeling of being crammed in. We had electric hook up too although our family didn't but that wasn't a problem it just meant they could still pitch next to us but not use EHU. Other campsites segregate EHU from non users, not here though, excellent.
We picked the site as we had read so many good reports of it on the Outwell Tent Owners club, and I can see why. Lovely facilities great level pitches and with the river running through the site there was definitely a peaceful atmosphere even when children were playing, plenty of room for them to explore and run around, the river is shallow nearest to the camp so they could paddle to their hearts content or use a rope swing someone had put up, at your own risk mind you, forget health and safety, it's let's them learn for themselves, if they fall and either get wet or hurt themselves well, it's all part of growing up and having freedom to play and learn. This is what Nantcol does best, being in the heart of sheep country, everyone learns to shut gates, clear rubbish (mostly) as there were some who thought it ok to drop tin cans in a field where's kiddies could play and also drop empty crisp packets or boxes. Showering facilities are excellent, 50p for five minutes more than enough time, lovely large cubicles. The washrooms however apart from being very modern and clean it would be preferable to have cubicles with doors on for those who want a strip wash down. Washing up sinks and laundry facilities too were excellent. Down sides? 3 modern showers each for male and females, hope they can build another wash block elsewhere on site to accommodate the large number of people they have, sometimes you have to queue. Single track entrance to site, beware of sheep on road, there are passing places to allow for oncoming traffic but not many so be careful driving. Overall brilliant site, oh they allow camp fires too, sitting with a drink, your family and your dog/dogs watching the flames is wonderful.

A truly great site to get away from it all and enjoy the nature around you. Without sacrificing those creature comforts.
No you won't find an adventure playground, chip shop or bar, you won't need them. With the waterfalls, a river, nature trails, a riverside walk and rope swings galore the kids will have plenty to do. With the added benefit of open fires and a welcoming and relaxed attitude to camping the rest of family will love this site (just take beer and marshmallows). The river has shallow areas suitable for tiny paddlers and a slightly deeper for bigger kids and kids at heart
All the pitches are flat and very generous WITHOUT the need to measure your tent, camper or motorhome (remember those!) Clean and modern toilets, washrooms, showers and washing up areas. Reception can deal with basics and also sells kindling, firewood & charcoal. There's Wifi (if you really must spoil things) and hook ups. Barmouth (sandy beaches, tourist shops and Knickerbockers Ice cream parlour is just 20 mins away.

We stayed for two nights, I can not praise this site enough the toilets showers where kept clean and tidy, the campsite was spotless! We had a wonderful weekend walking up the waterfall,
We spoke to the lady owner she was very pleasant and friendly, Our auntie lives in the area so we are going back as much as we can to stay at the waterfall, it was the best campsite we have ever been to.
We found out there is even a washing machine room GREAT!
All I can say is I recommend this site to anyone its so peace full but not to far from beach and shops,
The price was very good we had a electric hook up you can also have wifi up there.
The showers were lovely and warm and very clean.
You don't get good phone reception unless you go up the waterfall but we liked that

We visited over August bank holiday weekend - arriving Thursday. It was very busy but to be expected. Our first visit here.
So, where to start. Our pitch was OK, we had booked lateish - not that late though so only non ehu pitches left. Didn't really matter.
Ground is pretty lumpy and because of the warm dry summer was rock hard.
There was plenty of space - we were two families in two tents and had no privacy issues and didn't feel at all crowded. In fact where we had pitched we were able to play cricket.
Lovely location, great walking, kids had a fantastic time playing in the river. Demand on facilities was high - toilets and showers didn't really cope. Only two toilets (as opposed to urinals) for blokes and it felt like a revolving door. 10 minute queues to do your ablutions - not pleasant.
Showers were great, though again only two showers and on a bank holiday that was stretched.
Good walk to village where you can stock up on essentials. Pub was very good too. We were attacked by a swarm of wasps on our return from the village which at the time was pretty scary but is now a good tale to tell. Several of our team managed to get in to double figures with stings.
It is a lovely site and well worth going. Not sure it is at its best over bank holiday, I would return but not perhaps during that peak time.
My only advice is make sure you can reverse your car, uphill, on a tight single track lane. You will need to if you visit when busy. Watching people who can't was very amusing!

Love this site, just come back from our 3rd visit. We booked early and had electric hook up. Our pitch was huge and we had family next to us as we requested.
The toilets were cleaned regularly and the showers were always hot. We don't mind paying for a shower as the price fir camping is so reasonable.
The family who own and run this site are really lovely and work really hard to make sure Nantcol is always a great place to stay. We will definitely be back next year.
We used the beach at Dyffryn which was really clean and free to park which is always a bonus. No toilets though unless you use the holiday park ones which you are probably not supposed to do.
We went to Barmouth and had a lovely lunch from Browns sandwich shop which we ate sitting by the harbour looking up the Mawdadd estuary into the mountains. Cant beat it on a sunny day.

I have just spent five nights here with my 10 year old granddaughter and can only endorse the good comments made by earlier reviewers. It is the kind of place you wish no one else knew about. Owner and his team are some of the nicest people you could hope to meet.
Even though the site was full - including a good few 25m and bigger tent complexes, it was never overcrowded.
A few more toilets and showers would have been good to cope with the number of people, but there wasn't enough of a problem to worry about.
The only real downside for me was hordes of obnoxious little boys racing round the tents at times, but I much prefer wild camping.
