Baby niggles first: I agree with previous reviewer with regard to expense of washer/dryers and sometimes lack of toilet paper was annoying. The owners justified not leaving extra rolls because they get stolen. I think they just need to have bigger dispensers!
The shop could have stocked more useful/local foods.
But - still the best campsite ever!
The space between pitches, the places to walk dogs, friendliness of owners, proximity to deserted beaches all brilliant. Not sure I'll ever go to that part of the world again, but would stay at Annstead Farm and will recommend it to anyone who will listen!

Just returned from this delightful site. As other reviewers have said, it has such a feeling of space even when all 20 pitches are occupied.
The open area in the middle of the field was hardly used during our 5 night stay, so it was very peaceful; but as it was term time, there were only a few children around at weekend so it may be more lively during July/August.
The toilet blocks both have 2 toilets & 2 showers, but as most people were in caravans with their own amenities, that was ample. In fact I only saw someone else in the toilets twice during our visit. The site is kept very clean & the working farm is very well run.
It is very dog friendly & there is a long lane adjacent to the camping field which goes right round the farm- good for a last walk with the dog if like us, you can't keep your dog out of the sea when you visit the beach!
The beach couldn't be nearer & it is a lovely walk along the beach & across the golf course to Seahouses, where the fish & chips are to die for!
Lots of pubs are dog friendly within a short drive, & there are numerous castles / boat trips / wonderful walks / villages to explore.
This is probably our favourite site & we intend to return often.

Just got back from another stay at Annstead and it just gets better. The new shower and toilet blocks are great, the showers are the best 40p you will ever spend.
There are so many fab places you can visit in the surrounding area you will never be short of things to do, not to mention the fantastic beach which is just across the road, it is such a peaceful place to walk and you will only meet a handful of people.
Its also very dog friendly, I think it has to be our dogs favourite site as well as our own. Hoping to be back there soon

Have to agree. What a lovely little site with 20 large pitches so you arnt on top of each other. The site is a 10 minute walk for adults along the main road into seahouses and is all flat or you can walk along the beach which is just across the road from the site and up onto the golf course and into seahouses that way.
We only booked the night before as we wernt planning a trip but boy this is now one of our favourite sites and must be with a lot of others as we tried to go back for a weekend in august and its fully booked.
We were on pitch 11 which is at the bottom of the flat field and no one walking past but also the furthest away from the new toilet blocks and pot wash.
If we were to be really picky and leave a bad comment it would be please can you put some soap beside the wash basins for when people wanting to wash there hands after being to the loo and that's as bad as it gets

We have just come back from a short break in one of the cottages at Annstead. We have stayed at Annstead before with our caravan last year and found it to be a fab site so when we wanted to get away for a break we chose to stay in one of their 8 cottages. I would recommend this site to anyone whether camping or in one of the 8 cottages. The cottages are furnished to a very high standard and equipped with everything you will need for your stay, they are also dog friendly. They are in the process of making a new shower and toilet block which looks to be ready for the start of the camping season.
This is one of the best sites we have stayed on with fabs walks on the beach just a short walk away and plenty of places to visit in the area. We cant wait to go back.

I stayed here with my family in the summer holidays for 4 days and had a very pleasant stay. The owner is most helpful and sends further information by email, including a booking form. The site is a large field, with numbered pitches, some with electric hook up.
They are reasonably well spaced, so you are not on top of one another. All the pitches are around the outside of the field and the middle is left clear for the children to play.
This is not one of those club-type sites with 'no ball games' signs, so is ideal for people who want a less structured approach but still require all the facilities.
There are 2 toilets, showers (remember your 20p pieces), washing up facilities with hot water and a washing machine and tumble dryer. It is all together in one room, which is cleaned once daily. They are restocked with toilet rolls but these run out quite quickly so always have your own with you.
While we were there in August, the owner opened up a little shop with just the basics in a portacabin twice daily. Handy for those things you might have forgotten and it saves a trip to either the little store in Beadnell or the larger Co-op in Seahouses. If you need more choice in your shopping then head down to Alnwick, which has a bustling market and shops and also an out of town retail park and supermarket (Sainsburys).
The site is in a good location just across the road from the sea. You can walk from the site, cross the road and be straight onto the beach. From here you can walk up to Seahouses, which is a couple of miles away or down to Beadnell bay.
Seahouses is a bit like a mini Blackpool, but good if you want seaside tat and a large choice of restaurants/cafes. You also get the boats to the Farne Islands from here but need to be a little earlier in the season to see all the migrating birds. Try Alnmouth and Bamburgh for more unspoilt seaside villages.
In summary I found this to be a well equipped and well located site and will be back again when it reopens after winter. Price-wise, it is much cheaper than the nearby club site at Beadnell and you have the option of electric hook up as well (£15 per night).

What a delightful site this is. So good that in fact, we don't really want to share it and just keep it our little secret!
We booked 8 nights. Susan advised us on booking that there were 'basic' wash/toilet facilities. This did not deter us. In fact, from the moment that we arrived, we knew we had made the perfect choice! Out pitch was huge, grass immaculately kept by Susan's son and her daugher now runs a well thought out little shop of basic supplies; milk, pasta, toilet roll, buckets and spades etc - you are right opposite the beach so essential for our two children and nephew. This is a working farm, exactly what we booked. The farmer is very friendly. The 'basic' toilet block is well thought out; two toilets, two showers and washing up sink (I believe they may perhaps open another). There are two sinks and a washer and dryer - everything you need. I was a little concerned about 'queuing' for the shower, but this never happened.
The showers are basic, yes, but clean (well as clean as the person in front of you leaves it). For a family, we liked the idea of communal wash room. A little strange washing dishes with the toilets in use (I say no more - but quite funny). Would perhaps prefer to wash dishes in separate area (even outside), but this is all I would change.
Susan keeps the place clean and tidy, the only occasional mess left was from other campers, but this was minor and generally everyone was extremely courteous.
The children loved the open space to play - there is no playground, but who needs one with such a fantastic site and wonderful beach. This has been our best experience of camping yet and we cannot wait until we can book for next year 2011. There are also cosy little cottages to rent and a bunk house.
Out and about; Bamburgh Castle, Alnwick Castle & Gardens, great playground in Ellerton, Seahouses for chips; the one opposite the co-op is best (in our opinion), but fish/chips not cheap. Lovely pub Craster Arms in Beadnell village. The beach opposite the site has great rock pools. Closest large supermarket in Alnwick (20 mins) Sainsbury or Morrisons.
PS - Dont forget your bikes - we did - you can cycle from the site for miles.
A highly recommended site if you would like a great family/couple holiday in a quiet (but not too quiet) site, with fantastic access to a beach and cycle tracks.
Cant wait to return!

Stayed 3 nights at this site.
The site is set at the rear of the farm.
It has 20 pitches all around the edge of the site. There is 2 toilets and 2 showers. The showers were 20p for 8 mins.
There is tumble dryer and washing machine.
The site was kept clean and quiet considering it's set on a farm.
If you go through the farm, across the road then over the sand dunes, you are at the beach which takes less then 5 mins walk.
Well situated for Northumberland and it's coast.
Did not see much of the owner butwill be visiting again in the near future.

My wife and I visited in July 2009 it was memorable for a number of reasons ! We had managed to pick the only weekend when the rain was so bad it caused widespread flooding in the area, including this campsite. On arrival we was given a lovely pitch in the far corner of the field, plenty of space. We have a large frame tent and it was quite a challenge erecting it in the wind and rain, but having experienced similar conditions in the past we was undaunted and after some pulling and tugging we managed to get everything up and dry.
After a night of listening to the wind and rain lashing down, we awoke to see part of the field flooded and the water was heading towards our pitch. The owners came to see us and said that the quantity of water that had fallen was what they would expect in the winter and they had never seen the field flooded in July, ever ! Unfortunately for us the water which we later discovered was partly tidal and with nowhere to go started to get higher. When it got to within five foot of the tent we decided to pack up. After much soul searching and never wanting to let the weather spoil our weekend we later moved to a pitch nearer to the outbuildings.
The facilities are pretty basic by comparison to other sites we have been on, and it would appear that the more caravans that are on the site there would be less pressure on the toilets etc. But this is a farm site and having stopped on a quite a few now over the last few years, they are pretty similar in what they offer.
So what is good then ? Excellent location, in between Beadnell and Seahouses, the beach opposite the campsite, large flat pitches, electric hook-up, friendly knowledgeable owners, quiet location, will never feel crowded.
So what is bad then ? The toilet block as mentioned by other reviewers.
Would we go again ? Yes and are looking to book next year, will probably bring our own toilet and shower tent this time though.

Fantastic Site.
Huge, flat pitches, very friendly, quiet after dark, superb unspoilt beach with rockpools 2 mins walk from site - what more could you ask.
We stayed for 2 weeks. We were using an Outwell Vermont L, and took our minibus. Loads of room for both - we had enough space left over that we could have put up our two Vango Beta450 weekend tents and still had space!
No tents are permitted in the middle of the field, so this site was ideal for keeping an eye on the kids. They had an absolutely great time.
To those bemoaning the toilets/washrooms - you're supposed to be campers (maybe you should be thinking of hiring one of Annstead Farm's lovely luxury cottages next time!). They were kept very clean, and we've used many sites where towels soap etc., aren't provided, so didn't see any of the negative comments of earlier reviews as being a problem.
There's plenty going on in the area. We thought Alnwick Castle was a bit naff and very overpriced once inside (even though the kids thought the Knight School was good fun), but Bamborough Castle was very good, and Cragside House (at Rothbury, 45mins drive) was totally amazing. The scenery and coastline is stunning.
The only reason we are loathe to give a good review is that we'd like to keep the site to ourselves! We've booked again for next year - what more can we say!
