Our second time camping was a really nice experience at Thorpe Farm Centre. Really nice site, lovely setting. The Farm shop and cafe was very nice.
Peter the campsite manager was really helpful a really nice guy.
We took our dog and the walks around and about were great, she enjoyed every minute. We went with two other families with 8 children between them, the facilities for the children were fantastic.
The toilets and showers were kept clean, but weren't the best, we understand there are plans to build new blocks which would make it a perfect site.
There was plenty of ample parking to either have you car behind you, side of you, in front of you. We did encounter some tent envy/jealousy as we have 'monster' tents, but it all worked out in the end, I may even go camping again!

If customer service matters to you, you will love this site. The man who runs the site was very helpful and made us feel very welcome. The campsite is under development and has the potential to be excellent. The camping field is great - lots of space (with or without hook up) with some pitches under trees. The washroom facilities are quite basic with 3 showers and 10 toilets located in portacabins. On a positive the water was piping hot. There is an outdoor wash area which is adequate. There is a cafe/shop located on the farm a couple of minutes walk from the campsite.
There was enough to occupy our children with a play area, games room, football area with two goals, pedal cars and the various animals.
We stayed here with another family and discovered a lovely walk through nearby woods. We also visited Barnard Castle which was 10 minutes away by car.
The only downside to this site is the road noise from the adjacent A66, however trees have been planted in an effort to deflect this in the coming years.

Great site!
Peter the guy that signs you in was fantastic you can usually find him driving around in his 4x4, he is very helpful and pleasant.
Loads to do for the kid pedal go-carts, pedal tractors, a sand pit, play area with slide, trampoline and a games room with drawing activities, jenga, giant connect four, giant dominos and table football. (if its not too windy outdoor badminton too). The game room also has a toilet in which was very handy!
There is a dog walk / family walk going by the farm animals and a friendly Donkey. On the walk you'll find a tunnel subway that passes underneath the A66 so you can safely get to the other side where you'll find pubs and a hotel and restaurant.
Peter put a TV in the game room so we could watch the football (good Lad) so that's the adults sorted.
The farm shop has some great food in very fresh and excellent quality!
We were on EHU (Electric hook up) I would say a good size pitch enough to fit your car and a tent 460 x 430. But watch out whilst you are out for the day because some selfish idiots turn up with monster tents and pitch right over the spot the car was parked in.
Toilets and showers very clean. I tried both gents showers but one was a bit temperamental going hot and cold with the change in water pressure as it was an electric shower.
My last comment is about the drinking water for some reason it smelt eggy as did the water coming out of the showers the same supply obviously.

Just visited this campsite at the end of the easter holidays. We have two young children, aged 4 and 7, who need lots of entertaining! - thorpe farm had loads on offer from trampolines, to Giant connect 4 and ride on tractors - they also loved the Pony & Llama's at the top end of the site. The toilets/shower block were basic but clean. There is a great coffee shop with some very nice cakes and a reclamation building which is well worth a look round. The site manager was great, really helpful and always on hand when you needed something - he ensured there wasn't any unnecessary noise round the site and even jump started our car when we got carried away blowing up the airbeds. We'll be booking again soon and have recommended to lots of camping pals.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at this campsite over the bank holiday weekend. Well the plus points are the site is excellent for children. We went with 2 other families and our children ranged in age from 18 months to 14 years old, and they all had an excellent time playing in the 2 kids play areas, sand pits, and trampolines which are all free. Also there are a lot trikes, go karts and mini tractors for the kids to play with, ranging in sizes so all size kids young and old could play on them.
There is a shop on site which sells a range of goods and a nice cafe. The site was very clean and well kept and the site manager was very friendly and helpful.
Also the site is ideally located for days out around and about
The downsides to the campsite are 2 things really -
1. The open lake/pond in the middle of the campsite is not adeal for small kiddies, you just cant take your eyes off them (not such a problem for us, as ours are growing up now).
2. Is the showers and toilets, the website says New for 2011 Showers and toilets. They maybe new but they weren't what we expected.
They are basically 2 porter cabins, and there was only 2 mens and 2 ladies showers, and the cabins were always cold. The queues on Sunday and Monday morning were not good at all! Also there was only 2 pot washing sinks which were of an industrial size and backbreaking when bending over them.
All in all I would come back to this site, but not until it had a proper heated shower/toilet block.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay here. Absolutely brilliant site. Although it's next to the busy A66 it can hardly be heard, day or night. There is a handy shop and coffee shop serving gorgeous cakes. The site is new (approx 18 months old) and as such the toilets and showers are portakabins. There are 2 toilet blocks and 1 shower for men and women and one disabled. These are kept very clean. Speaking to the manager there are plans for bigger and better facilities. There's wash up facilities chemical waste point and water. The website says 5 ehu we counted at least 20! We have 2 children (aged 13 and 3) we hardly saw them. There is so much for them to do. We just left them to play and felt very confident in doing so. There's a play ground, ride on trucks and diggers, trampolines, climbing frames, slides and plenty of animals. Donkeys, lambs and even lamas! High force waterfall is a must approx 30 mins away. Barnard castle is within 10 mins and is a quaint Market village everything needed, including a costa coffee!
Would I go back??? Most definitely. It's quiet with plenty to do. Would probably go back late summer when the maize maze would be open. Peter ( the manager) made us feel very welcome and was there when needed. The daily paper order was a nice touch.

Just returned from 2 nights at Thorpe, Had a great time. Beautiful landscape. Peter is very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Just a short drive to barnard castle (or good walk) not far from Richmond and other pituresque places, pub nearby. Shop and tea room on site, even a reclamation barn to buy from. Showers and toilets basic but clean. Hot water in disable shower and more space. Probably could do with more showers (these are being planned)
Lots of open space so tents and caravans etc not too close together. Appears to be a lot for children to do, 2 play areas with go carts etc, they never seem to get bored.
Great dog walks as well.
Simple and refreshing. Great value for money. And easily accessible. Will go again and recommend.

Visited here on Easter weekend had a brilliant time kids really enjoyed themselves. Arrived to a friendly and warm welcome from the staff. We were placed in a really good pitch which was ideally set so we could watch the kids playing in the park and the sandpit and the older kids had a field with goalposts which they enjoyed and used all weekend. Toilet and showers were clean. The whole park itself was really enjoyable and cant wait to book up again in the very near future. Well done.

Have just returned from a fantastic Easter weekend away on this site. 2 adults and 3 kids, who had a brilliant weekend.
There is so much available on site for the kids to do and with no additional charge. We also took our 6month old puppy away with us for the first time and he had a great time as this site has the best dog walking area we have seen.
Peter on the site was great, so helpful, he had a lot of knowledge of the local area and he also came and took our paper orders each day.
The toilets and showers were basic but kept clean, the only thing I could think of was that they could maybe benefit with some additional showers being installed.
Before we left we booked another visit here in two weeks time and can't wait to go back.

Arrived Bank Holiday weekend, checking in no problems. Peter, who manages the site is probably the most jovial campsite warden I have ever met. We enjoyed our weekend, nice dog walk, plenty to do for the kids. Only about 8 caravans and about 40 tents. Quiet at night and wasn`t aware of traffic on A66 (probably the wine!) Barnard Castle only 10mins drive away, with plenty of pubs, shops and take aways. The shop was really good, lots of interesting and unusual items. We didn't use the coffee shop but it was always popular and had a varied menu.
