Disappointed to visit here this weekend, out of season to be told that the 'open all year' isn't really a true fact, they simply state that as they never receive guests! We booked online on Thursday evening and paid full amount of £21 per night, to arrive Friday approx. 6pm and after calling the contact number to be told we had not been expected. Showed to a pitch thankfully, got set up and filled water bottle to find water was completely un-usable and smelled horrendous, we were informed the following day 'this was because the water hasn't been used for so long' no offer of any solutions, advice or even a sympathetic word. We obviously decided to travel home the following day after staying just 1 night as we couldn't manage without water with 2 toddlers. So disappointed. This site should not be advertised as open all year if they do not wish to have guests in the winter, nor should they allow an online booking process if they are not being informed a booking has been made. Absolutely no complaints about the site itself, looked lovely, however a complete waste of our time and money for this current weekend.
UPDATE! We have since received a call from Thorpe Farm who have very kindly given us a full refund and have offered our family a free 2 nights stay there in spring or summer. Also apologising for our bad experience. Absolutely fantastic customer service.

I would just like to say that we have been to this campsite three times now, every time we have been made more than welcome. Was a little disappointed we had non electric on the bank holiday weekend but that was our fault for booking late as they were very busy. The showers are always nice and hot. Yes the shop is a little over priced but it is a small shop not a super market buying in large bulk so you expect to pay a little more. The staff are all very friendly and happy to help, what more can you ask for. The first time we came there was just me and my husband with the two dogs, then we came back with my brother in law and his wife and 3 year old and the last time we brought friends also (we just keep recommending it).

Just got back from Thorpe Farm after spending 3 nights here over the Bank Holiday. Lovely atmosphere, great facilities - the showers were very clean & there was ample warm water + no extra charge.
Plenty of washing up sinks too.
We got a very warm welcome from Christine, Billy & Graham manning the entrance. They never stopped all weekend, emptying bins, cleaning & the like.
We visited the coffee shop for Sunday lunch - very lush.
The dog walk is lovely & we spent a bit of time watching the llamas - didn't get very near in case of spitting - we had been warned!
This was our 2nd visit, we spent Spring Bank here & it didn't disappoint. Lush grass, plenty of space, nice views & reasonable charge.

Booked this site as next to steam railway, took grandsons to Thomas the Tank Engine event. Site very tidy, pitches a good size. Some of the pitches slope slightly so would need levelling ramps for a motorhome. Plenty of space for kids to play though no play equipment on site - bring your own. Site owner very friendly. Toilets as stated previously are in a converted barn, basic but functional, with hot water. No showers as mentioned but it looks like some are currently being built. Would visit this site again if in the area.

Just got back from 3 nights on this site and this is the 3rd time in 12 months we have been here, each time we visit the site is getting better and better where they are upgrading. Would definitely recommend as it is a very polite, quiet and peaceful site. Will definitely be going again.
The site is easier to find now as it is well sign posted on the a66 and barnard castle is only 5 minutes away if you fancy a takeaway or more supplies

My husband and I took my niece and nephew camping on the last weekend of August. I'm by no means a 'happy camper' but I thoroughly enjoyed our two nights at Thorpe Farm.
We booked an electrical hook up pitch on the Friday morning and arrived at 6pm that evening. It is not obvious when arriving on site where to go to 'check in'. We joined the queue in the shop but as only one lady was serving we waited a little while. She directed us back outside where a lady had appeared and directed us to the security gate. After paying a £10 refundable deposit for the gate pass, a friendly man showed us to the electrical hook up area and gave us the option of where we would like to pitch. We were fortunate to have no other tents close to us but the site was fairly quiet following the bank holiday weekend.
The site is just off the A66 and you can hear traffic noise but it was not so loud that it kept you awake.
The shower/toilet block was clean although by the end of the day there was grass etc on floor but that's to be expected when you are in the middle of a field! The showers were warm and free! There were several sinks for washing pots and pans. There was a playroom but we didn't use it. Outside were two trampolines but they had no safety nets so again, we didn't use them.
The site was clean and grass kept short. Our pitch overlooking the pond was fabulous. The on site cafe was nice for breakfast, the food was good although a bit on the pricey side. There was also a nice little farm shop. There were donkeys, llamas and sheep in the fields across from the entrance and several nice walks which the lady serving in the cafe told us about.
My only complaints, and they really are minor complaints, are that there was only one bottle of hand soap in the ladies and this had disappeared by the Saturday afternoon leaving none. Also the bins spread around the site were overflowing and in need of emptying.
At £44 for two nights with EHU, I'd happily recommend and visit Thorpe Farm again.

We booked late notice for a midweek break. The site is situated just off the A66 and is well signposted and easy to find. You haveto go to the shop when you arrive which is not obvious but was not a problem. The warden was friendly and showed us to a generous flat pitch. We were attracted to the site mainly by the reviews and the sites website and I have to say I was a little disappointed as I found the site to be a little shabby in places.
The bins were overflowing for the entire time we were there and the site was only a quarter full. The play parks had broken equipment and the pool table in the games room was ripped with missing balls, the fuss ball and connect 4 were ok. The new shower block needed to be cleaned on a more regular basis, the toilets in particular were never properly clean during our stay, and is a fair walk if you are at the far side of the field. The shop sold some nice products but it was expensive.
I did like the fact that we were left to our own devices and the location was nice, beware light sleepers the road noise may disturb you. The staff were friendly and willing to help but to get the rave reviews it has received from me it would have to pay more attention to detail as it has the potential to be a lovely site.

Mixed review about this site. Although, yes nice big site with plenty of space for children to play, when we arrived were shown to our pitch and as it was very quiet we asked if we could move to a different pitch. We were told that this wasn't possible. Thought that maybe over next few days the site would become very busy and so could understand if all pitches taken but this wasn't so. We were told where the toilet block was but that was it. The toilet block seemed fairly new but was not cleaned regularly. The sanitary 'bins' were flip top bins which were not a pleasant sight when full. Although this site is OK if you want to be in the heart of Teesdale then this is not the site for you.

My wife and I took the 3 grandsons and they loved the freedom of the campsite. The playpark and plenty of space to PLAY, the extra play field was a boost, no worry about children upsetting anyone around the tents/caravans. It was busy the weekend we went and the Toilet block just coped. It was a hot weekend and everyone had bbq on but the shop only had sausage's, they missed out big style there.
We will return, good Family site, warden very helpful and friendly.

My wife and I have just come back from a 3 day stay at this site, Good points had large pitch plenty of greenery that's it. Bad points toilet facilities there is only one block of toilets which is relativity new according to web site there is 76 electric pitches also there is a large area for none electric tents these share 4 toilets 4 showers 4 sinks only one sink had a mirror there was only one tiny hook in shower to hang clothes same in ladies. The toilet block was in a desperate need of a deep clean I visited the toilet 3 times when it was quiet and 3 times the toilet bowl was filthy I had to clean it 3 times my wife had to do similar she said there was a mop bucket in the ladies which had dirty water in it for 2 days she threw the water out and on the 3rd day the floor was mopped with the dirty stinking mop no water was put in bucket. If you are a light sleeper this site is not for you the A66 is only a stones throw away and the road noise carries on into the night I did not see any security as for the shop and coffee shop very expensive all in all very disappointing stay if I had not paid in advance I would only of stayed the one night
