On arrival we went to the shop and was greeted by friendly staff and pointed in the right direction to the camping field and hard standing caravan area which was a short drive to the top of the farm. The camping field was a little boggy and had a lot of uneven ground and didn't want to get stuck so went for the safer hard standing area (didn't use the EHU)
No sign of the mazes but it is a little out of season maybe.
Next to busy A66 so always going to be some traffic noise but would say this would be more of an issue if staying in a tent
Plenty for children to do playground, trampolines, ride ons etc near to farm shop short walk from the camping field. There is also another playground within the camping area, however the large trampoline in the camping area was located under the trees we were unable to use it. Also in the camping area and local to the play area is some open water which has no fence/barrier so the kids cant be let off to play freely
As the name states this is farm site, so farm buildings, tractors and equipment are expected.
Falconry centre was closed (this is where the disabled WC was located)
The website says that for 2010 there are male and female toilet blocks but after a quick trip back to the shop we were told toilet these are currently being refurbished (which would be odd considering how new the website says)
The disabled toilets were housed in a cabin type building which were disappointing, the water was turned off to the building and I had to hunt for the incoming stop tap to enable hot and cold water to be used. When turned on the wash hand basin leaks badly so had to be turned on and off at each visit.
Was not told any of this at the time of booking over the phone.
Site was ok for 1 night but wouldn't have wanted any longer there due to the lack of facilities after the shop had closed.
We went on to see the High Force Waterfall which was about a 25/30 min drive away.
Owner's comments:
We have been accepting visitors since February and we have had no adverse comments until this review.
In march of this year our site was waterlogged and consequently we installed 3 ehu on an area of hard standing and everybody that booked during that period was told this before arrival.
We were also in the process of installing a new toilet and shower block and moving the old ones, so we opened up the Cafe on the park which has a disabled toilet in it for the occupants of the two motorhomes to use that weekend and the following one while we finished off the building works. As far as the leaking tap is concerned, we had to wait for parts as the fittings are bespoke and hard to be ordered.
We now have 4 wc and a shower cubicle for the ladies, 4 wc, 2 urinals and a shower cubicle for the gents and a Disabled room with a shower and wc in that doubles up as a family room.

Very enjoyable stay over the August bank holliday. We stayed for 3 nights 2 familys of 4 adults & 5 kids ranging from 6 to 14 years old. Great location with easy access to local towns. Barnard Castle only 5 mins drive Richmond 20 mins & High Force water fall 25 mins.
The kids had a superb time playing in the maize maze, on the hay bales, trampolines & go karts. Loads to keep them occupied, the younger kids say its the best camp site they have been to.
Toilets, wash rooms & dish washing areas are very basic but don't let that put you off. Staff & owner are very friendly & cant do enough to help.
The site has lots of plans to upgrade over the winter months so will go back next spring/summer to see the changes. Excellent value for money. The ground is hard under soil so you will bend a few tent pegs but it drains well so good when it rains as it always does when we go camping. Overall very pleased with this site.

Stayed at this site for a week. Site itself was spacious and well kept with loads of walks and lovely scenery and animals. We had our dogs with us and there were no problems.
Toilets and washrooms were in a portacabin and although they were well kept, they were too basic. Male and female were rather close, not giving much privacy for a good wash. There were no showers, which personally we think is unacceptable and would have been a very big problem for us, being there for a week, had we not been in the area visiting family and able to have a shower there.
There was also supposed to be a falconry but we saw no signs of any birds while on site. Also, it should be mentioned that the motorway is so close, and it is very busy, day and night, but didn't keep us awake.
We didn't have any kids with us, but there was plenty for them to do.
I hope he does update these facilities as it could be a superb site.
Would certainly go back for a weekend, longer if wash facilities were greatly improved.

A beautiful, 'back to nature' site. Surrounded by lovely countryside with woodland walks etc. Unfortunately, next to busy A66 so always some traffic noise.
Plenty for children to do, with animals to pet, playground, trampolines, ride ons etc near to farm shop short walk from the camping field. There is also a maize maze and another playground, go karts, ride ons etc (entrance fee applies).
This is a farm site, so expect farm buildings, tractors and equipment. The toilets were housed in a portable cabin type building which were disappointing, but I understand proper toilet blocks are to be built in the future. No showering facilities though. All that said, I would definitely visit again for a weekend.
About a 5min drive into town of Barnard Castle with plenty to see and do once you're there.

We chose this site as we wanted something quiet as this was our 1st touring trip ( usually tents for us ) and we both thought it was well worth the price, we got what we expected, basic but very clean, friendly staff, the falcon place was open every day for the 3 days we where there.Great location for going into barny castle or richmond.
Overall very friendly though basic, left to your own means with nobody to bother you, great dog walks (my akita came home knackered every day)
I would recommend this site if your just starting off or you just want to get away from it all

Arrived here to find a very basic field with 2 portable-style cabins for toilets. We booked especially as it advertised new toilet facilities for 2010, and there was no sign, even in July of any new toilet block apart from these portable cabins! Very disappointed, apparently we were supposed to be told at the time of booking that this was the case, however this did not help us after travelling 2 hours to find this out in person.
Staff were pleasant and understanding and very apologetic, giving us a full refund after we explained that we were ill-advised as to the facilities offered / advertised.
No showers at all are available and we did not see anywhere for pot washing.
Would not recommend this site for tents until they have got adequate facilities up and running.
The farm park itself looked lovely from the farm shop but turn around and there are dilapidated buildings and rubble everywhere. I would definitely keep children under close supervision.
Falconry centre was closed, with no signs of opening.
Field had lovely views but obviously, being this close to the A66, you could not get away from road noise.
Nice long dog walk and a few farm animals in fields along the way.
Shop expensive, 75p for a mini-milk ice cream was a bit much to say the least. Whilst we were booking in, a few patrons of the bistro were receiving refunds for food they had waited over an hour for, this put us off trying the menu.
Playpark and trampolines looked great fun for the children along with nicely spaced picnic benches for the farm shop customers, ample parking too.

Loved it here left to your own devices no one around for the two days we was there and good scenery. There is plenty of walks to keep you occupied and some good pubs to frequent if your willing to walk for twenty-twenty five minutes. Also don't leave the site until you have a ice cream from the farms on site shop.
Brilliant if there is a group of you going as you don't get told to be quiet after a certain time so maybe good for a birthday celebration.

We arrived around 4pm and was shown where the pitch was, asked for electric hookup and was told there was one pitch left, when we got to the field there was not a sole there. This site is ok for caravans, but if you have a tent like us I would avoid it as the ground is solid, we tried for an hour and a half to pitch our tent, it was impossible, the ground was too hard underneath, pegs just would not go in At 5pm the shop and centre closed so we had the whole place to ourselves, not anybody anywhere.
Not recommended for tents.

Turned out we were the first to use this site! Generally we really liked it. Lovely big field for 5 units. It's basic (no toilets/showers, just EHU, chemical disposal point and a tap!) but in a great location. The shop is a foodie's dream come true, lots of local, home made produce, it stocked milk etc, but was more expensive than supermarket (not a criticism though, it's worth it just to have a look round the shop).
Outdoor playground can't be seen from the site, but is good though maybe more for older toddlers upwards. Quite a few of the bikes they provided for the kids were broken though. But as it's farm centre attraction there was plenty to do (discounted entry for site users).Resteraunt food was lovely, varied and kids menu. Nearby, Barnard Castle is well worth a visit, High Force (waterfall) is worth the drive too. Not sure how far away a pub was.
We did mention to owners that the entrance to the field was likely to get very muddy, maybe problematically so, if it rains like last season. Probably best to avoid setting up next to the road too - we had several inches of rain in the first day, and a large puddle formed on the road spraying the field when cars passed! Also the disposal point is right next to the drinking water tap with no barrier between, again we mentioned it so may have been sorted by now.
Overall, a good site. Well worth the money and nice a peaceful. We'd definitely go back.
