Stayed two nights at Thorpe Farm. Very pleasant site with a very helpful and friendly warden who was always on site. Whilst it is situated just off A66 trans pennine, traffic noise wasn't an issue just take ear plugs if you think it's going to bother you.
Toilet block well maintained, clean with ample toilets and showers (lacks a mirror though above the sinks). There was little tractors for kids to play on, goal posts and there was a heritage walk/dog walking area which took you round the farm where you could see their animals (donkeys, llamas, sheep etc)

Brilliant site, kids loved the park and ride ons scattered around the site also a lovely walk with animals for kids to pet.
Toilets and washing up facilities all together in a large portable cabin style building (these were immaculate no matter what time of day visited. )
Staff were really friendly but not overpowering.
Even though it was situated on the A66, we never heard the traffic at all.
Already planning our return trip.

Stayed 4 nights over bank holiday Thursday to Monday.
Been here few times before.
New toilet & shower block up & running indoor pot washing nice hot water all round.
Could do with hooks & mirror in wash basin area.
Apart from that brilliant.
All in all a lovely site.
The warden is his usual self helpful and always cheerful.
The site was full but never queued once for toilet & showers.
Lots to keep the kids happy.
What else can I say fantastic site will be returning.

Just spent 3 nights Wed to Sat at Thorpe Farm campsite on our first family camping trip.
Arrived on Wed around 1. 30pm and given a choice of pitches to choose from. Site was reasonably quiet on arrival so we chose to pitch at far side of pond.
Do not be put off when you first drive into farm area as it looks like a bit of a chaotic building site with old farm buildings and materials all around you. But the actual site is well kept with grass cut, bins emptied and a warden that is always around busy doing something.
Play area for kids with wooden climbing unit with 2 slides, small sand pit with diggers and a wooden hut with giant connect four, football table a toilet and sink.
Also go karts and toy ride on tractor trailers around site for everyone to use.
At the reception there is a shop and cafe selling ice lollies, milk, bread and other locally produced items. Shop opens at around 9am and closes at 5pm. There is also another play park outside shop with climbing frame, trampolines and picnic tables.
Toilets and shower blocks were as other reviewed in portable cabins but clean and well maintained. New shower block/toilets are close to completion and look lovely. Will make a huge difference to site.
Didn't travel much around local area as had lovely weather so kids were happy playing on site most of the time. There is a Morrisons and Co-op in Barnard Castle for supplies.
This was a lovely site that I would highly recommend for families. Did start to fill up on the Friday but the place had a really friendly atmosphere about it.
Staff helpful and a warden that was always on hand.

Completed a 4 nights Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend at this site.
Very easy to find right at the side of the A66 but don't let that put you off as you could hardly hear the road and we were quite close to it.
As said on previous reviews the kids facilities are excellent loads for them to do, football, go karts, a summerhouse type building with loads of games and a TV in it.
The pitches were well set out with plenty of room for larger tents and there was no issues with the electric hook ups cutting out when you switched something on.
There is no segregation between tourers and tents which allows everyone to mix better.
The only downside at the moment was the toilet and showers, 2 showers each for men and women on a busy campsite on a bank holiday was not ideal, and when one of these showers wasn't up to much it was a struggle to keep clean. There was also only 2 massive sinks for pot washing. But the water was hot and the warden did his best to keep them clean and stocked with paper.
In the future there will be a large shower, laundry and toilet block. This had just been put on its concrete base just before we got there and the warden was in the process of ripping it out inside and refitting it. So it could potentially be a very good site.
There is a farm shop with a cafe on site, as said previously its not a camp shop ultimately it is there for the passing coaches that travel up and down the A66. But some food essentials are available when its open. Barnard Castle has all the shops required a nice Morrison in the center and various other shops.
Richmond is close by and has an excellent swimming facility that we used when it rained on Sunday and it allowed us to get the kids clean. (sorry Richmond). Richmond it self is a lovely town with a Co-op and a mountain of butchers and of course there's a Yeoman's.
Back on the site there didn't seem to be any curfew for noise and the playing of ball games, one night the adults from a large party decided to play football in the dark right outside our tent which wasn't ideal. Also on the last night sparklers were handed out to the kids from this party and they were allowed to chase each other around the tents with these in their hands. Talk about being on edge.
Overall not a bad site and you don't find decent sites with trying something new. Once the toilets are up and running on the new block I may visit this site again.

We stayed here midweek and the weather was fantastic.
The site is having work done for a new toilet block etc and it looks like it will be great when finished.
The first thing you see when you arrive is the picturesque lake in the middle of the site.
The kids loved playing on all the ride on toys spotted around the site. And the climbing frame/slide was excellent too.
Our pitch was overlooking the lake so it was lovely to look out over.
The site staff are extremely helpful and go out of their way to help.
The site is on the A66 which some people might think is a good site to stop over as - I think it is nice enough to go to for it's sake.
Please be aware there is work going on for the toilet block and allow for it when arriving though.

Potentially a lovely site.
The pitches were flat and well maintained. Lovely walks around the site, visits to the donkeys and llamas. Sanitisers available for after petting the animals.
Space hoppers, Go karts scattered around the site for the kids to play on. Goal posts in the far field, trampolines, mini goal posts and climbing frame near to the cafe. Another climbing frame near the tents and a wooden lodge with giant connect four.
Toilets and showers are housed on portable cabins - not very attractive but clean and functional. Couple of incidents of flooding in the ladies when hot water geezer left running with the tap between the sinks.
Washing up facilities poor - Two giant sinks were not undercover and often greasy and dirty, with lots of food debris in the bottom.
The site is situated off the A66 dual carriage way so expect traffic noise day and night.
There seems to be a lot of development on the site going on at the moment including a possible clubhouse - lets hope they sort out the facilities too.

We chose this campsite as it had the facilities on offer to keep our two girls(7&11) happy for the weekend.
It didn't disappoint with trampolines, space hoppers, go-karts and swing ball on offer. There is a football pitch and sand pit also. T
his site is ideally situated if you like walks.
The coffee shop provided us with free maps and off we went!
There is a lovely pub only 20min walk away with a nice beer garden and a great menu if you need a change from the bbq !
The toilet blocks are temporary portable cabins at the moment while a new block is being built. They are perfectly adequate and clean with hot water.
There were a couple of occasions at peak times when there was no hot water but that was due to the boiler re-heating.
The warden is very friendly and makes you very welcome, we will return again.
Our only suggestion would be to expand the children's play area with swings and a climbing frame to suit older children.

We spent a few days here over the Easter break, with our two girls 4 & 5.
Basic facilities in portable cabin, kept clean and well stocked with toilet rolls and soap (are going to upgrade and include laundry facilities in near future).
Girls loved the open space and the free toys to use/playground, but main attraction was the trail around the animals, able to stroke the donkeys and the many hand cleansers dotted around.
We never had chance to walk in the woods or down the track to the pub, but it will be a must on our next visit.
Farm shop is very basic, it is a farm shop and not a camp shop, but with barney down the road, with large supermarket and lovely local shops- excellent bakers/deli with huge sausage rolls and an outdoor shop (for those extra waterproofs).
Nothing is too much trouble on this campsite, always a smile and a cheery word. And quick with a jump start when you need one.
Look forward to returning

This site is great ! Kids loved it, great walks in wooded area. Not too far to the pub. Staff were great,
Only a short drive to Barnard castle with its wonderful shops and deli's.
We've stayed here a number of time but I'm sorry to say this will be the last, the toilets and showers are horrendous!
Every time we've stayed we are told the same thing about them 'we are getting new ones built' they are totally unsuitable.
