A good site, well worthy of a visit. One of our pet hates, though, is finding ourselves on a camp site that's full of caravans but very few people. Many of the 'vans here were unoccupied, presumably being seasonal, so on a Sunday evening the place felt drab. Hard standing pitches were plentiful and most are equipped with drinking water taps and grey-water disposal points. Ours was not completely level but we reversed the polarity of our sleeping and were comfortable enough. That's another of our pet hates: site operators who assure us that pitches are level when they're not; they should try sleeping on them first! Shower blocks were good and spotlessly clean. The warden was very friendly and very helpful although I disturbed her Sunday afternoon. The shop was well stocked with basics, especially for the time of year, and the on-site hotel bar was open in the evening, although we didn't use it. For kids they have a designated play area and a small games room with pool table and fruit machines. The site does have statics in a separate area from the tourist pitches, but they weren't intrusive. Porthmadog was about 1/3 mile away and easily walkable. Porthmadog is at the cross-roads to the world (with both real and narrow-gauge railways) and has everything you'll ever need, including a Tesco. Having driven onto, and rapidly off again, several sites close to Porthmadog, we would say that this is probably the best in the area. But then we're grumpy old'ns.

Great site, very friendly owners, lovely playground and a ditch for the kids to play in. Superb location - few mins drive to black rock sands and I think you could walk into Porthmadog though we didnt. Can do a big walk up the hill from the site and look down over the sea. Went with 2 of our own kids (5 and 7) and two other families. Did get asked to be a bit quiet at about 11, not that we were particularly raucous just laughing over a bottle of wine once kids in bed! But the comment was fair enough. Toilets and showers were fine. Would definitely visit again. Only thing was rather sloping site, felt the blood rushing to my head when got in bed!

Just got back from two nights at this site. Good well run site. Friendly staff at reception/shop. The toilets and showers were clean. Dishwashing at the side of the toilets was ok. Fantastic location. Only a short walk into Porthmadog. There is also a footpath from the site that goes up Moel Y Gest for anyone feeling energetic. The problem with the site is most of it is on a slope. There are flat bits but when it is busy you probably won`t get one. We also found the water had a funny taste to it. We were told it is quite safe to drink. Will probably go again in the future.

Set in a stunning location by a mountain, we spent a weekend here for our 5th wedding anniversary. We paid the very reasonable price of £10 per night and found the amenities to be more than adequate. We've never stayed at a site with a bar so found this really useful for a night cab. We even came 2nd in the quiz! Toilets/showers where great. Hotter and more powerful than I've got at home!
After reading other reviews about the slopes there, I was a little apprehensive but sense tells you where not to camp. We like peace and quiet so next to the children's playground was a bad idea although there was a row of trees secluding it so we didn't realise it was there until it was too late. Parents allowed their children to play there from 6am to 12 midnight which I thought was very rude to other patrons since they made a lot of noise.
We didn't manage to see Portmerrion while we were in the around so will go back again and use this site again but take a pitch away from the playground.

I agree with others - a beautiful location. But I can't go quite as far as some of the others. I had booked a Premium Pitch which really was no bigger or better (except for a private tap and waste water drain) than I would expect any pitch to be. I would have been disappointed if I had taken a standard pitch. Reception was ok but can't say much more. Facilities were old but very clean. Site was a bit noisy late on for first couple of nights but improved. Would we go back, on balance yes, as it provided a base for a great week around Porthmadog, so much so nearly didn't return home for work!

We stayed for two nights over what was a very damp weekend but this did nothing to spoil this fabulous site. It does slope quite a bit in some places but we were very lucky to get a flat pitch close to the play park. The toilets and showers were spotless and the water was lovely and warm. I would definitely return although due to the slopes I would probably avoid a bank holiday.

A beautiful setting, and lovely and quiet! We stayed for two nights in August despite the site only really allowing week long bookings at that time of year. The staff were really freindly both on the phone and in person. The shop had a good selection of necessities (ice creams were particularly welcome in the blazing hot weather we had). Toilets/showers were basic but clean.
The quality of the tent pitches were very variable due to the very slopy nature of the site and we spent a while choosing the flattest location! We however found somewhere lovely surrounded by woodland with brilliant views out past the hotel. Am looking forward to going back.
The site is within easy walikng distance of Porthmadog which has a variety of good pubs and restaurants. It is also very easy to find in the car as it is well signposted.

Love this site, ideal location for both beach and town, loads to see and do in the area, Porthmadog does get really busy at times though and traffic can be delayed but well worth the extra time, site itself is great, childrens play area is nice, showers and toilets were always nice and clean, hot water tended to run out early on but is was bank holiday and the site was very busy. lovely walk up moel y gest mountain for the fitter campers, well worth the trip up if only for the views off the top.Camp site staff very helpful, will even tow your van onto pitch for you.

July 2005 Great place to stay. However, have to get there early to find levelest pitch. We try to get section A which I know is near the hotel and therefore can be a bit noisy until around 11 pm but the pitch is virtually level. Most other pitches vary between slightly to extreemly sloping but Lovely site none the less.. very clean amenities and very helpful staff. Had our first ever camping experience there and have been back since. Would recommend it highly.

June 2005 We stayed 4 nights from tuesday to saturday in early June. After much consideration of the varying slopes we had a good choice of where to pitch our tent, although it got quiet busier on friday. My 6 year old loved the play area and all the facilities were very clean with plenty of warm water. The site is well located for the beach at Borth and shopping at Portmadoc. Its well away from the main road and a peaceful site which is at the foot of a mountain and has a little brook that runs through it. We went on several trips to Portmerion, Caernarvon and Beddgelert without much driving.
I was a bit worried about going camping again after several years off and it being my daughters first time, but the site and staff and the weather made it a fantastic week!
Just watch out for those cheeky squirels!
Definately worth a visit to a very sceenic part of Wales. We'll be going back for a second visit.
