May 2004 Very nice and tidy side in good location. Not the best for tents however due to the sloping pitches which are not mentioned when booking!. The site was busy when we went and we didn't have much choice of pitches but to be honest the majority were sloping they just varied in intensity!!. Ours was so bad we had to prop up legs of tables and cookers etc with rocks. We also had to wake religiously at least 4 x a night to reposition ourselves from the bottom of the tent. The toilets are very clean although when we went the block near us was closed and so it was a fair walk to the toilets which wasnt great as we have a disabled child. The pitches for caravans looked good (Hardstanding and level next to the toilet block in a nice cul-de-sac. Shop small but adequate. Overall nice little side. Best thing was its location. Worst thing - The sloping pitches

May 2005 We stopped at Tyddyn Llwyn campsite for three nights 5th - 7th May after it was recommended by a friend, all in all we were pleased with the site but of course it was quiet when we went, there was only one other tent on the first night and we counted about ten on Saturday night so we had a choice of where we pitched, as others have mentioned there are a few slopes and the pitches aren't marked out so that may cause problems in the busy season, other than that the toilet's and shower blocks were clean and we saw the cleaner on two of the day's we stayed there but there was only two of the three blocks open this early in the season. The staff were helpful and polite. We didn't go in the pub or restaurant so can't comment on them and we had enough provisions so didn't use the shop but it's handy if you run out of milk or eggs for breakfast. Would we go back? Yes Would we recommend it? Yes
Happy camping Des & Bren snerdbe

July 2004 A lovely situated site, very close to Porthmadog but far enough out to be quiet. As mentioned by previous reviewers, there is a slope on some areas and that led to a couple of 4X4 types pitching far too close to our tent - there are no pitches marked out so privacy can be compromised without any common sense. Otherwise, Porthmadog provides great shopping for campers. The onsite shop itself serves camping needs but only a minimum of foodstuffs. There are three showerblocks but because of their positioning, only the more central one tends to be used. This meant it got quite dirty by the end of the day. The cleaners never did a thorough clean - the same soap wrappers sat in one of the showers all week I was there and the toilets were never properly cleaned. As sites go though I wouldn't have a problem going back. The grass was kept short and the atmosphere was quite friendly.

11th-14th July 2004 Having spent many holidays with my family around Porthmadog and Blackrock sands as a child I decided to head back to the area last week with a mate for a long weekend break, I wanted a site close to Porthmadog and all the local attractions, Ffestiniog Railway, Welsh Highland, Portmerion etc, so when I came across this site I was over the moon. The town centre is a 15 minute walk away and the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Steam Railways and Cambrian Lines (Network rail) are a mere 20 minute walk away. Portmerion can also be reached easily without car if you use Ffestiniog or Cambrian Coast line which is next too Welsh Highland. I parked my car up on site on the Saturday and it was not used again till I went home on the Tuesday. By using local transport systems you can go anywhere and I ended up on the Sunday morning using the Ffestiniog railway up to Blaenau Ffestiniog then Tuesday I got a cheep dayranger ticket (£6.60) and travelled on the Cambrian coast line as far as Tywyn, travelling on Talyllyn Railway and later I stopped of at Fairbourne and did the miniature railway there, I then boarded the main line again and back to Porthmadog and took the short 15 minute walk back to the camp site. If you like your Narrow gauge railways and want to visit many of them with as little fuss as possible, this site is a must.
This site is in an excellent location if you just want to chill out and relax and visit the area your in without having to use your car. I had a superb time, the campsite is clean and well maintained, the toilet blocks are cleaned daily, the onsite shop has all your camping needs, including gas refills for camp stoves etc and a good selection of gifts/food, the on-site bar has a good selection of drinks and the staff are really friendly and helpful.
My only gripe is the slope onsite, you have to really plan what way is best to pitch your tent, but I coped, even when cooking, sleeping with your head facing the slope is best, but it's worth it just for the location, there is also a mountain walk from the campsite which I wanted to do but never got time.
Black rocksands is close by also (which I also never got to see) so it looks like I'll be coming back very soon. I would give this site a stomping 10/10, The location is spot on, it's quiet, relaxing, and I will definately be back before the end of the year. I really can't praise the site enough. Oh did I mention there is a huge Tesco store in walking distance too?? Superb. A++++

Spring Bank week 2004 Just returned from a week at this site. The best thing about it is that you can walk into Porthmadog in about 15 minutes. Huge beach at Blackrock Sands is only a 5 minute drive away and you can drive your car on the beach! My 2 kids loved that! We found the facilities on the site quite clean and adequate, they have contract cleaners come on everyday. As mentioned previously, the worst problem is the slope, steepest site I have ever camped on but we just pitched accordingly and didn't let it bother us. We will definately go back, purely for the location, you're not stuck to the car all the time. The kids loved the park and games room so we had a great week, all in all.

Easter 2004 Had a lovely time on this site over Easter even though it was busy. This is one of the busiest weekends of the year so did not expect anything different. I happened to be in the shop when the comments were made about sleeping with your head at the top of the slope, if you happened to find yourself in that position .... I feel it has been taken out of context by the above reviewer. An excellent hotel on site serving fabulous food. Will certainly be visiting again soon.

April 2004 We visited Easter week-end 2004, arrived Saturday, all hook ups taken (80), the lady at reception gave us a map of the three areas designated for camping, we went to look around. It appeared that all of the better pitches had already been taken even though we had booked two months in advance. The pitch we were finally resigned to was on a slope, enough so that anything placed on the table would slide off! Other than this we found the toilet facilities inadequate for the amount of people there, being a holiday weekend one toilet block was shut and therefore there were insufficient facilities for the amount of people on site. Queuing for showers and dish washing facilities (four sinks) was not our idea of a holiday week-end. When booking out we mentioned that the pitch was on a slope, the lady on reception said you should have slept with your feet low and your head high, this way you don’t slide (we did!!!!). This comment was not much recompense for a night spent shuffling up the slope trying to regain a comfortable position to sleep. On the good side booking out time was 11 a.m. and they allowed us until 12 noon to pack without any additional fee. Although we had encountered these problems the position of the site is good for access to Porthmadog and Borth-y-Gest, both of which have good qualities and within easy walking distance of the camp site. A good site for families or people with dogs. A well equipped shop and hotel with bar meals.

Ausust 2003 Booked in here as they have dedicated pitches for motorhome. Very disappointed! Motorhome pitches seem to be allocated because they are too small to accommodate a caravan and awning. Ours was outside the gents loo. Toilet blocks spotlessly clean, but not enough of them. Plenty of space for tents but they are packed in during busy periods. Very nice restaurant on the site, serving lovely food. Close to the beach and the town, probably ideal for caravans and tents, but not motorhomes. Would not visit again.

August 2003 This was our first camping experience and we enjoyed it so much we have bought our own tent for this year. Unfortunately it's the only site we have visited so far, so I have nothing to compare it to, but here goes anyway.
Very clean and well laid out with clean shower and toilet block. Childrens play area seemed to get a lot of use. Small shop on site with helpful staff and all basics.
The site is within easy walking distance of town and just a 2 min drive from a beautiful beach.
The site is at the foot of a mountain and there is a path from the site to the top. A visit to the top is a must for anyone staying here, it takes about an hour or so. When you reach the top the sense of achievement and the views are superb.

11th August 2003 I was taking my sons camping and fishing overnight and only planned stopping one night, and dropped onto this site whilst driving towards Black Rock sands on the road from Porthmadog. It was well sign posted and on arrival the site was very well laid out and although I hadn`t booked the staff were very helpful and accomadated us for the one night, the cost for the one night for myself and two sons was Twelve pounds. The site was maintained well and very clean with plenty of amenities, and the toilets and shower block were the cleanest I have ever encountered on a camp site. My eldest son is a scout and regularly goes on camp and even he was impressed by the overall layout and cleanliness. There was a shop, games room for the kids as well as play areas, telephone, bar and plenty of shower and toilet facilities, all in all it was a lovely site situated in between Porthmadog itself and Black Rock Sands. Certainly a site I would use again.
