This site ticks so many boxes, riverside location, great pub over the road, village shop nearby, Manifold trails 250 yds away and pleasant managers (not the same two as in earlier reviews).
On the downside the showers & loos are very cramped (wash basin right up against urinal) and not enough of them to cope with the number of people on site. Brave and generally successful attempts by the managers to keep them clean but floor always wet despite decent weather. Soap dispensers and paper towels were a nice touch.
Pitches can be reserved but no clear indication of were one pitch starts and another ends and some pitches seemed to have a several tents/motor homes squeezed together although in other areas there was plenty of space.
Parking is by tent and there is a single track gravel road but no turning space. Quite a bit of grass by the road was churned up and it was very soft following rain in the week. A few wheelspinners (campervans in the main) were doing their best to cut up the grass!
Charging structure is a little odd with a dog charged at £3 yet no dog facilities eg exercise area or dog mess bins meaning the mess ends up in the regular bins.

We spent four nights at this site in a 3-man tent. It's got beautiful views, as past reviewers have said. The river runs past, and the pitches by the river are the flattest. The shower/toilet block was very clean and accessible, and the washing up area very clean. It was an incredibly wet weekend, and I had been concerned the block would get really dirty w/ all the campers, but the management did a fab job of keeping everything clean and tidy.
The showers were electric and could be as hot as you wanted them. The outbuildings were great too. Because of the wet weather, the manager opened the barn for people to use to stay dry and cook their meals. There was also a covered area by the toilet block, with picnic tables, which we did use to cook and eat when it was raining during meal times. There was also plenty of local information available, and a book swap (take a book, leave a book), which I thought was a nice touch. There is no shop on site, but the village shop is only a few minutes walk away.
We would definitely recommend this site. There is no electrics on site, but as we didn't need any, it wasn't a problem. The manager was great and made sure that everyone was taken care of. Shame about the weather - but there's not much you can do about that. If you're looking for a campsite that is easily accessible and has great views, stay here. We walked past a few others in the area, and agreed that we were by far in the best place.

After reading the reviews we chose Bank House because it sounded friendly, clean and seemed to be in a pretty location.
I have to say I was disappointed with the facilities - only 2 toilets and 2 showers per gender for a fairly sizeable campsite. They were never too clean either, there was a mop which I used both days we were there to wipe up grass and mud. I really think the owners need to think about building extra showers/toilets as the campsite was quite busy so must be popular.
Nice location though, we enjoyed being by the river.

Camped here Bank Holiday weekend
Very nice site & the 2 members of staff on the site was excellent and very friendly .
We had @ 7 tents in our party & was in the top fields. The road was fairly busy at night time so experienced some traffic noise, but other than that the site is ideal for groups of campers wanting to pitch all together. Plenty of space for playing games up at the top of the field (rounders, etc etc.)
The facilities that are available are outstanding , very clean .
The weekend was wet and windy so got quite muddy and had to avoid bringing the cars on to site, passed all the camping gear over the low wall from the road side then use the car park below the field.
The Manifold Arms pub, just down the hill was a nice pub , with good food.
Nice tidy site, highly recommended

We picked this site because it was highly recommended on this website and were not disappointed. We pitched right by the river and despite a really heavy storm one night the ground drained very well. Toilets and washing up area were immaculate. The managers could not be more helpful. Very quiet site especially after 10.30pm. Close by for main N.Derbyshire towns and Manifold trail for walking or cycling just around the corner. Only the weather was poor. Would definitely return.

Brilliant site! Clean facilities. Friendly staff. Great location. This was our second camping trip this year after taking the plunge and buying a tent after borrowing one as an experiment last year. Had a great pitch right next to the river, which was recommended by the staff as one of the dryer parts. Even after copious amounts of rain our pitch remained firm and dry. Kids had great fun albeit we're still washing the mud out of their clothes. I would definitely recommend this site to anyone.

Spent last weekend at this excellent site after reading the positive reviews here. As novice campers we thoroughly enjoyed our stay despite the wind and rain and definitely plan to be back. Pleasant surroundings by the River Manifold. Highly recommend booking in advance as the site was full. The two showers / two toilets in both men's and women's wash rooms were immaculate and very regularly cleaned. There are two washing up sinks with hot water plus drinking water tap. Laminated maps of nearby walks were available to borrow for the day and there was a good what's on noticeboard. Plenty of recycling bins / rubbish bins and slabs were available to put instant barbies on. Staff were friendly. The Manifold Inn (literally just over the road) have expanded their take-way service - fish&chips / curry & rice / pizza / lasagne + others on request all for £5 - start serving in the evening around 7. Dined in the conservatory there one night - food was very good - pricing £9 - £15 for main courses. Excellent pint of Hartington Ale.

Very nice site the owners seem to work all day keeping on top of things. Nice and clean facilities etc. We stayed on the bottom field side of river plenty of room not to far from Buxton and Ashbourne good chippy in Longnor quiet is expected and observed after 22.30 there was a group of young adventurers arrived thought there would be noise but no all quiet in the evening. In brief nice site if you want views stay in top field if the kids like ducks and water the field by the river is ideal. My only gripe my wife thought it a little pricey £3 per adult child £2.50 dog £3 couldn't really understand why a dog is more expensive than a child?? Never mind would recommend this site and we will be back.

We only spent two nights here, but found it very enjoyable and hope to return. The setting is beautiful, within reach of many tourist spots, and with access to excellent walking and cycling. The site has a nice balance between efficiency and informality. The toilets and showers were very good - the showers first-class and free (could do with more hooks or a rail for clothes and towel).
All the children on the site seemed be having a great time without any special playground - the fields, river and ducks kept them fully occupied.
On our second night there was a terrific downpour with thunder and lightning, but the ground drained well, and there were no problems.
The small local shop has a good range of items, and the pub seemed good.
Water is only available at the main block, so more walking was needed than on many sites, but it was well worth it to stay at such a natural, unspoilt site.

Had a lovely stay at this site. Very family friendly. Extremely clean toilet / shower area. 2 toilets, 2 sinks, 2 showers in the ladies' toilet, the same in the mens with urinals too, both spotless at all times and the showers didn't fluctuate in temperature. Free to use. Plenty of toilet paper, soap and paper towels always available. Plenty of flat pitches either near the stream or further away, with a large flat field further up that seemed to be car free, though we were in the bottom field and pitches could be next to the car.
There were games available and books to borrow but we were too worn out to use them! Lots of info available from reception. Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, children playing until nightfall. Quiet expected after 10.30 so children settled quickly after that, with crying tots being left for parents to settle and older children and adults making a racket expected to keep quiet. Ideal. There was a light on in the toilets all night, so I didn't need my torch.
We went with 2 under 5s and really enjoyed our stay. The Manifold trail on the old railway track was ideal with the pram as it's been resurfaced so an easy walk with little ones. We'll hire bikes next time.
We'll be back there soon.
