Fab little gem of a camp site. We pitched in the meadow field and found a gorgeous spot. Nice and level but very sheltered from the wind. Only facilities in the field are bins and a water tap! We used a chemical loo for our stay and we were fine course not everyone has one! Site looks spotless and very well maintained. Owner was brill, gave us lots of local information and a choice of which field to pitch in. We will be returning next year to continue exploring the area. You do get some traffic noise and some airplanes going over head but it isn't often. All campers were quiet by 10 pm, and it was fab to lie in bed and listen to the river babbling away! Perfect site for those of us who wish to relax and watch the world go by, or have a wander round some fabulous countryside.

This is a lovely campsite in a beautiful setting. Our pitch was flat and the only downside was that we were pitched next to the footpath up to the facilities (this is a steep slope by the way). This was fine except for the people that don't understand that a tent in darkness means people are asleep or trying to get to sleep inside. Where is your camping etiquette people!?
The site asks for no noise after 10. 30pm which suits us perfectly, unfortunately some people didn't respect this and this meant I couldn't sleep until 1am the first night due to noisy campers. The site owner was very emphatic and thankfully no action was necessary as the people left that day. After that we had a very enjoyable stay.
The kids (10 and 12)loved walking through the river (crocs or wellies recommended) and feeding the ducks. A huge positive for us was the fact we could have campfires. We enjoyed listening to the sounds of cows and sheep.
Facilities are basic but fine for a short stay and spotlessly clean even in wet weather. The owner and wardens work extremely hard to maintain this. Free fridge and freezer provided which is essential.
Another huge plus is that the campsite is just around the corner from the start of Manifold Way. We cycled to the end and back (18 miles) and climbed the hill to see Thors Cave. This is highly recommended (wear shoes with good grip).
There is an amazing view from the hill at the top of the campsite.
We visited all the places in the area that we wanted to so I don't know if we will return in the near future but if we do we will certainly consider returning here.

Lovely farm campsite. Very welcoming, owner and the wardens.
Booked 2 nights last minute. Was given a spot on the top field overlooking the tighter, muddy EHU spots next to the river. (Kids paddled in this, ducks became our best friends, especially when food was around. ) Beautiful views, pitch next to a noisy road during daylight hours, but only 1 other there and a good deal away from our pitch.
Facilities were as others say sparse, 4 free showers (2 male/2 female) with an on/off button, (a luxury on campsites) although early use proved no problem with queuing, sinks were very tight to use other than washing hands. They were cleaned very regularly and looked to be fairly new, compared to the original toilet in the farm building and the extra ladies portacabin.
Two washing up sinks, so there were queues for this, especially as one was open to the elements! The owner sold wood and burners, (gas as well) although we didn't use them, quite a few others did.
The pub across the road was very convenient, food was good and drinks even better when you can walk back to your tent. Hartington village is beautiful and the village shop sold some great local food, also had a few pubs too.
A short drive to Dovedale and very close to the Tissington trail.

We visited on the spur of the moment after reading the mixed reviews here. On arriving I noticed how close together the pitches were by the river and was a bit worried that would be squeezed in but we were told to pitch in the meadow field which had bags of room and nice flat areas and we could put the tent up where we liked. The only problem was the walk along the road to go back to the main site for the loos and washing. I did not like the hike too much as I have trouble with slopes, the washing facilities seemed basic but adequate but I can imagine some large queues there in the morning. The position of the site next to a pub is a bonus as they do great food and beers. We only stayed the one night and I think that is all we could have put up with being in the meadow field without any facilities apart from a water tap.

We arrived on a busy weekend. The warden was really helpful and quick to check us in and explain anything we needed to know. We were right on the banks of the River which was beautiful. The pitches were well spaced out and non that I could see were too much in the shade / undercover.
The bus stops outside to either Buxton or the lovely village of Hartington.
The Manifold Inn is directly opposite which was busy in the afternoon with cyclists and walkers and had a lovely atmosphere. We had Sunday Lunch there which was really nice.
The showers and toilets were very clean. The only drawback was there are only 2 female and 2 male shower and toilet along with 2 sinks with not a lot of space. There was very little privacy and they were very busy.
I would definitely return and the walks around the area were amazing with something for everyone.

What a gem of a park! We asked for EHU overlooking the river and a flat pitch, we got what we asked for! Pitches are well marked and the owner takes you over and explains everything to you! Great customer service! Very clean toilet area, a skip for rubbish. The site is well managed and the owners are very friendly and helpful, in a lovely quiet spot but not too far from Bakewell, lovely for a cake! The Manifold pub over the road is lovely, you can take the dog in the conservatory if you want a meal! We were a family of four with children 12 and 15 and a small dog.

A lovely setting by the river, we stayed here for 1 night in a tent, we used pitch 2 which is close to the entrance. The road noise was very noisy, possibly as it is on a junction with a narrow bridge, lots of cars hooting horns! Tractors about every 10mins until 11ish then from 6am. Shower and toilet facilities were adequate (nothing special) freezer available. Site was well run and staff friendly. Lots of ducks roaming around, nice to see until they start quacking all through the night! At which point they would seem nicer with orange sauce!

Beautiful site, very picturesque and grounds are immaculately maintained. Very helpful owner takes a pride in the appearance and facilities on site.
Toilet and shower block is fine although my visit was midweek so may be pressure on facilities when site is more fully occupied at weekends.
Very rural location but with a pub directly opposite serving food all day long.
Some great walks directly from the site or within a short drive. Will definitely be going again at some time.

The owner and wardens are fantastic and couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, for example offering to help with a flat car battery. The site itself was very clean and well looked after with well kept pitching areas. We were sited on the hill overlooking the pitches that run alongside the river, which suited us perfectly (once we got used to the hooting owl in the tree at night), but may not suit people with any mobility problems, i. E. Getting to the loos, pit washing and showers. The local pub was also excellent in terms of food and ales on offer. Locally there is a visitors center and cafe in Hulme End and from there an easy flat walk/bike ride along the defunct railway line through the valley. There are shops at Hartington - and a fish and chip van there on Fridays - but get there before 9pm - we didn't and went hungry! All in all a first rate site.

What a fantastic site. We stayed over the May Day bank holiday weekend and received an extremely warm welcome. The site itself is very well kept with an excellent pub close by and some great walks in the area.
We used the Manifold Way walk several times and can recommend it to dog owners and walkers alike.
We'll definitely be back.
