This is one of the best settings we have been to. Idyllic with fabulous views. Wayne, the owner, could not have been more helpful especially on Sunday morning when after a horrendous storm the river burst its banks! He was up at 5. 30am warning people to pack up and move. He was on hand helping where necessary.

Before the washout we had a fabulous day and half in glorious sunshine. The facilities are clean and warm. The usual queues for loos and washing up but not a problem. The site has various areas to pitch in and offers some electric hook up.

Local pub is great with excellent food - TIP you have to book to eat in the evening.

Loads of walks locally.

Will definitely go back.

Just back from 3 nights at this site, part of a group of 12 in 4 tents.

Owner was extremely helpful with our booking, ensuring we were all together on flat pitches.

We arrived midweek and the site was nearly empty but filled up on Friday for the glorious sunny weekend!

Showers and toilets and pot washing sinks are limited and sometimes busy, but spotlessly clean, owner was talking to us about this and has plans to improve in the future.

Views and walks from the site are great, we used the top field for games of rounders etc and had a fab time.

The kids paddled and swam in the river, we had barbecues in our fire pit - slabs provided - so nice to have this freedom.

Dog field is huge and away from the tent area. Lots of families of ducks wandering through our gazebo - lovely to see.

We didn't visit the pub across the road but the menu looked good.

There are 2 big fridge/freezers in the barn area which are free to use, that's just such a thoughtful touch and helped us a lot to chill the drinks on the hot days, no 20p charges for everything here!

Owner is great, he is helpful and visible at all times which I found reassuring as we had no menfolk with us! He offered extra ehu leads and any help we may need, and always had time for a chat, even though he was busy. He deserves to make a success of this site as he works so hard and wants everyone to have a good time when visiting.

Overall a lovely break on a really nice site, and I look forward to returning in the future, but - we will need the view from the top of the site next time - to die for!

If you're looking for entertainment and luxury don't visit this site, but if you are like us and want to relax in a beautiful area, with a genuine helpful site owner, and spotlessly clean facilities, give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

We used this campsite as a stopover on a Friday and Sunday evening on our way to and then back from a friend's 50th in Scotland. The campsite is well maintained and in a beautiful location, we were sorry that we weren't staying for the whole weekend so that we could enjoy some of the walks in the area. We pitched our camper van right next to the river in the field over the road from the main site (where the facilities are located) and it was wonderful to be able to light a fire in our fire pit on both evenings, with the sound of the river tinkling in the background. Paving slabs are also provided to ensure that you don't damage the grass. The owner was extremely helpful and friendly. We didn't visit the shop but had a pint in the pub which is incredibly well situated, right next to the site. The only area that could do with a bit of improvement are the facilities which were very basic. Nevertheless we would definitely spend a night or two here again if we were in the Peak District.

Just back from another weekend at this gem of a campsite while attending a camping event, this is our 3rd visit. The weather was fantastic so the site was full, but not overcrowded, and there was no noise after 10. 30pm. The sites facilities coped really well, despite there only being 2 showers each for men and women. The showers are free and the toilets and showers were cleaned every day.

The site now has a large fridge freezer, tumble dryer and an electric kettle for campers to use and an electric point in the ladies for hair-dryers/Straighteners. Still lots of local information leaflets and a book swap box under the covered area near the reception.

There is no playground for the children, but that's is no bad thing in my opinion as it helped them use their imagination to create their own entertainment by playing in the shallow river, rolling down the hill and making lots of friends to play rounders and games with. That said all was quiet by 10. 00pm.

BBQs are allowed as are open fires as long as they off the ground in a fire pit or similar container, and they provide a slab of concrete to put them on.

The Manifold Inn, across the road from the site, serves great food and also does a campers breakfast. There is also a well stocked shop approx 100 yards from the campsite that is open from about 7. 30 am to 7. 00pm.

This is a nice, friendly campsite in a lovely area that is well placed to enjoy this part of the Peak District and we wholeheartedly recommend it. Wayne is a brilliant guy who will go out of his way to help you and is very easy to get along with.

8 of us stayed here for two nights in June (3 tents and a campervan). The owners were very helpful with the booking prior arrival.

Weather was poor on the Friday night when we arrived and it was difficult to know where to park your vehicle to walk up to reception! Luckily, our co-campers in the campervan had already arrived so we parked next to them and set the tent up first and settled payment later. We were sited along the riverbank as we had requested hook-up. The pitches were very large.

Unfortunately, there was a large group setup opposite us who were very loud right up until around 2am on both evenings, which was a real shame.

The facilities were clean and tidy. Just a shame about the situation of the washbasins in the ladies, hard to access if someone is in the shower as the doors block the way. Only two showers and two toilets in the main section for each sex, but there is also a portacabin with some extra toilets in.

Kids were free to play on the site, no playground, but plenty of space up near the facilities for them to play with a ball etc.

We went to the pub on the Saturday night and the food was excellent; reasonably priced too we thought.

We did a walk from the campsite up to Thor's Cave; lovely going down the river to a tea room then up the steep incline. Cycle path is on your doorstep too.

The location of the site was great, but there are small things about the site which make me question whether I would use it again or not. Improvements could be made to the facilities in my opinion, and maybe a wander around the site once at night to ensure people keep noise down.

We have just returned from a weekend on this site. We came across the site whilst on a day out and thought that the site, village and pub were ideal for us.

The site owners could not be more helpful and were very accommodating about our needs, including getting our friends on the adjoining pitch.

We are a family of three with a dog and a tent with electric hookup.

The site has an idyllic river running through it, there were lots of children enjoying this, including the children in our party who were soaked and muddy and loving it.

The site was very clean and the owners obviously spend a lot of time ensuring the site is well maintained. The site was busy but not over crowded and was very tranquil.

The weather wasn't the best but it didn't dampen our experience and we will certainly be returning here.

What a great site, the way camping ought to be. I would love to keep it a secret but that would be unfair to the owner.

Gorgeous site with a lovely river running through it. Caravans and tents can pitch along the river bank and there are other terraced pitches, and a separate field for camping over the road. Right next to a pub, and near a shop that stocks most of the basics you might need ( and fresh pork pies too!)

There are two washing up sinks, one covered and one not. And the water is piping hot!

Toilet facilities are in porta-cabins, and kept clean and tidy. Showers were hot and I never had to queue. We stayed on a rainy week and the site did get a bit muddy where people walked to and from the loos and washing up facilities, but the owner had put a few mats down to avoid further damage to the grass.

The owner is friendly and helpful and best of all relaxed. He gave us great advise on where to go for a fantastic walk away from the crowds, and helped us get out of the site when we left. We got stuck in the pub car park opposite and he helped us unhitch and turn the van round before waving us off cheerily. ( Note there is a tight right turn into the campsite but we are novice caravanners, so perhaps experienced caravanners would not have had the difficulties we did!)

Fires allowed as long as you use a fire pit. There is no play area for kids but our three kids had a great time regardless. There are families of ducks that live along the river raising their chicks that kept our kids amused! And plenty of lovely walks straight from the campsite door. Including the Manifold Way. If you get an OS map, and go off the beaten track, on the footpaths nearby you are on for a treat. Don't miss Ecton Hill, its a fantastic walk.

A great base for touring and visiting the tourist spots if that's your thing- Bakewell, Dove Dale, etc.

We will definitely be returning. A wonderful camping spot in a beautiful location. With a helpful and friendly owner to boot! What more could you want?

We've just come back from a lovely bank holiday weekend at Bankhouse Farm, always helped by glorious sunshine.

Have got to say, the campsite was excellent. It's a large site, with at least 3 fields, and the pitches close to the river looked lovely. We had a site at the top of the hill, where you did get the best views but was a bit windy. If you get there later on, be warned the main field has a large sloping section so some of the tents that were pitched later on Saturday looked very slanted. However there is a large amount of space so on non-bank holiday weekends I'd be surprised if this was an issue - instead it would probably leave a large playing area for kids.

They allow fires, as all campsites should! Off ground only, but that's fine with me I always use my BBQ, and they provided a slab of concrete to put this on. There was wood to be scavenged nearby too, which was useful as the wood we bought in the village shop was very damp (very common problem).

The toilets were clean, the showers free (and with enough space to change) but it's the little extras that make it. They have a public fridge/freezer to use, which is very useful for refreezing freezer packs. And a take one/leave one book box, where I found a book I'd been looking for for quite a while.

The best bit was when, at 4:55 I asked if there was a local butchers where we could get some bbq food, the girl there phoned up the shop in Hartington who said they would hold the shop open for 10 minutes so we could get some. Excellent service!

Slightly expensive for me but then I'm used to cheap no-frills sites and this was a step up from my normal campsite. Good local pub too, and many good pubs to walk to.

Just come back from this amazing campsite, we only booked for two nights but decided to stay for an extra two nights as we were enjoying it so much.

The campsite itself was very clean and tidy, the shower blocks and toilets were spotlessly clean with hot water all the time, the showers were free of charge. There is a fridge freezer, tumble dryer for campers use, The site is dog friendly and BBQ are allowed as are open fires as long as they of the ground in a fire pit or similar container. There is a beautiful river that runs through the campsite were the kids can go paddling, This campsite is in a great location with amazing views. The owner is a brilliant guy who will go out of his way to help you and very easy to get along with.

There is a pub just across the road from the campsite called the manifold inn and sells fantastic beer and also fantastic food, there is also a great little shop 100 yards from the campsite and they sell the best eggs I have ever tasted they also sell camping gas, news papers good pies and pasties it is stocked with lots of bits and bobs you might need on your camping trip, it is open about 7. 30 am to 7pm the owners are very helpful and friendly.

There is lots to do in this area or you can just relax in this peaceful quite place.

I can not think of no negative points about this camp site and in my opinion it must be visited. I give this campsite and the owner Wayne ten out of ten and will be returning later in the year.

I Found this site on UKCampsite.co.uk and decided to email the owner for more info and booking. The owner was quick to reply with all the info I requested. As we neared the campsite the scenery was beautiful we hoped that the site would offer us some similar views, as we drove in the gate and had a quick look around to find we where the only campers there and it was so peaceful and well kept. Always a good start! We followed the signs to the reception then the post stick notes as the doorbell was out of order (very amusingly written) we knocked the already open door to be greeted by great smiles. We chatted to the owner as we went through the booking info and site facilities, he told us of the great pub over the road about 15m from the front gate that also did a campers breakfast, the local shop less than 100yds down the road. We had arranged to get Gas from the site but completely forgot to bring the old bottle to which the owner fetched a old BBQ for us to cook on.

We had pre arranged to be sited close to the river to make us feel that little closer to nature. Wow what a beautiful site. We took our Labrador with us at a extra cost of £2 a night and she loved it. Nice cold river to play in and a private field to be walked in and that was just the campsite! The first night was freezing! I ended up starting a fire in our pit at 3:30am to keep us warm. We weren't really expecting to get quite so cold but live and learn. Speaking to the owner the following day he offered to leave a electric kettle and lend us hot water bottles for the night. Absolute star.

I could continue to write about all the local places to visit and each night but you all have goggle. I will say. The Site itself was well kept and the pitches were marked, large and trimmed. The site was beautifully clean. Toilets and showers were cleaned every day and re stocked. The owner could not have been more help and pleasant to talk to. Nothing but green fields and lambs in sight. I would recommend stopping here. And I would go back again. At first I did think it was a little pricey but I don't mind paying a little extra for a good clean and nice site.
