Just come back from a lovely bank holiday weekend at Bank House Farm. Camping by a stream, opposite a field of sheep and being able to have a campfire - perfect!
The site is peaceful, well maintained and in a picturesque location. Toilets and shower facilities are basic but clean. We camped in the Meadow Field and had plenty of space, although the pay off was having to walk a bit of a way, including along the road, to the toilets and showers. This was fine for us but worth bearing in mind if you have young children.
Hulme End really is a hamlet, the only amenity is the pub, the Manifold Inn, and there isn't any mobile reception - it's a perfect properly rural spot. The pub does great food.
The only improvement I'd like on the site is the provision of recycling waste disposal.

We were, based on nearly all the other reviews, expecting a fantastic site. This wasn't to be, but before we list the bad points we feel the need to mention how friendly the owners are and the FACT that they work very hard to maintain the site [ grass cut regularly and the amenities block cleaned more than once a day ]. Now the bad points,
1-Pitches too close to each other
2-On a hot day when children would want to play in the river they would be going onto peoples pitches for access, which we feel isn't proper camp site etiquette, this also applies, if, like us you have a dog that likes water.
3-Nowhere for kids to play ball games etc, especially if site full, they would have to play on track running through site.
4-Amenities block is so poorly designed that it isn't usable ie, if someone is at the sinks[2 hand basins] this restricts access to the shower cubicles and also encourages people to leave toilets without washings hands. The showers aren't very warm with very little flow, this also the case for the sink taps, and the pot washing sinks. We feel that if the owners upgraded this area and maybe used a grass collecting mower[ as they have a constant battle sweeping/mopping] they would be working more smart than hard.
Although a nice location with the pleasant village of Hartington only 2 miles away we did leave a day early as it didn't meet our expectations and we wouldn't go again.

This was our first time at this site, well situated to the peak district lovely surroundings, local pub, serving good food.
We pitched by the stream, wayne, alexa made you feel welcome.
The facilities were clean and well maintained, nothing was to much trouble for them to make your stay welcome one.
There was even a play area for our pet
We have returned to this site, at every opportunity and would recommend it to all our friends in the camping club

We stayed here on a busy Bank Holiday weekend with circa 60 units squeezed in together, some very close indeed but it was all fine.
The site is in a great location for walks, very clean and pretty and a good place to go.
We were riverside, feeding the Ducks in a quiet and serene location yet only 200 meters from a great pub with very friendly staff and great food, just the ticket after a good walk.
The site has a great dog walk for dog owners and the owner Wayne was most helpful, we had no problems at all and truly enjoyed our stay there.
Some points for information though,
No phone signal with either EE or Vodaphone
No site wifi but it is available in the pub free ( our pitch could use it so pitch pub end if you need it).
One criticism,
Showers number Four in total and are frankly pants, they need a serious upgrade in both quality and quantity ( min of 120 people and 4 showers, hardly ideal ). For the prices charged ( 5 star site prices ) this we felt was a let down when compared to other sites we have visited at a similar cost.
That's it though and it's hard to criticise such a nice site but it was a let down.

Quite simply a pleasure everytime we have stopped there.
The owners cannot do enough for you, making you feel welcome and always on hand to help if questions or queries arise.
The toilet blocks are always clean and tidy and on restocked regularly.
The site and pitches are maintained to the highest possible standard.
Lastly the site is situated in beautiful countryside.

Lovely site, and in great location for visiting Peak District. We were camped in the main field by the stream, and had the joy of the remains of Hurricane Bertha, our pitch was well sheltered by the trees by the stream, and the stream rose by about a foot, but nowhere near overflowing. The shower block is clean, fairly basic, only 2 male showers and 2 female showers, but there never seemed to be much of a wait.
Close enough to Alton Towers for an easy trip there, but far away enough not to have only Alton Towers visitors!
Easy pitching, very quiet road, nice pub opposite. Relaxed site, not regimented like some.
If we return to the Peak District, this is the site that we would return to

This is a fabulous site popular with families and walkers, surrounded by loads of things to see and do. Wayne the owner was so helpful - seriously, he was so kind. Our fridge broke and he sourced a new one for us, he even called the supplier to ensure it was in stock. We moved pitch during our stay to take advantage of the beautiful views across the countryside and he arranged to run an extra long LX cable over to us.
The site itself has plenty of options for pitching (less so if you want electrics obviously) there is a stream and regular visits from the ducks. The ground Is firm and well drained especially on the upper sections. You can have fires in a fire pit that is off the ground. The facilities were fine and clean. There are plans afoot to upgrade these for next season too.
Phone reception is patchy because of the valley location but you can get a signal at the top of the site and we even managed to piggy back on the wi-fi from the local pub over the road! We hope to come back again, if only to say 'hi' to Wayne. :0)

We've just returned from a wonderful week at this lovely site. The owner was very pleasant and helpful from the minute we arrvied, we camped on the hardstanding patio area at the back of the barns so had lovely elevated view of the campsite. The scenery is spectacular with wonderful sunsets. The toilets and showers always clean. Wayne works very hard but is always happy to chat and answer any questions. We had meal at the pub across the road which was excellent. The local bus service was very handy for visiting places. All in all we will certainly return.

We've just returned from our second stay at Bank House Farm and would happily recommend the site to anyone. The owner, is very helpful and friendly and we cannot thank him enough for making us welcome during our stay. He works endlessly to keep the site and facilities clean and tidy. The toilets and shower block are warm and cleaned thoroughly once a day. Even during busy weekend spells, we've never had to wait more than a few minutes to use the showers. For our first visit we stayed on the main field, and this year, we used the Meadow field across the road. We actually prefer this side of the site as it is such a lovely field and gave us a lot more space (we were a family group of 3 caravans and a tent). A real plus point for us is being able to use a fire pit for the obligatory evening campfire and marshmallows.
The area is lovely to visit and we're hoping to return again next year as we still have so much to see and do. Hartington is a lovely village, only 2 miles away, and has a lovely selection of small shops for food, groceries and gifts. Sitting on the village green, in the sun, eating fish and chips from the Friday evening takeaway van was a highlight of our week. Many local walking and cycling routes. Tissington, Dovedale, Thor caves, Chatsworth Estate are all great places to visit also. Ashbourne is the nearest town for supermarkets etc, and has a lovely range of shops.
The Manifold Inn is great for a drink although we felt that the food wasn't as good as last year. The George, in Alstonefield, had great food but a little overpriced. The Packhorse Inn at Crowdicote was a lovely find for great food and some fantastic local ales and ciders.
Looking forward to our next visit!
