Just had a great few days at this site (although good weather always helps).
Very friendly staff, large pitches (especially if you choose the hardstandings opposite the river), well maintained with lots of space for the kids and a small playground which was good for our 6 and 4 year old but limited for anyone over the age of 10.
Our initial worries about the river were unfounded - it is not very accessible with 45 degree slopes down to the water and only a few sets of wooden steps which were too difficult for our young kids to negotiate anyway - they never seemed interested in going anywhere near it.
Not really enough showers (2 in each block, 4 in total for men - not sure of the womens) but they were free, powerful and hot and all kept very clean. However, they are the annoying push-button ones that last about 5 seconds and then have a 1 second delay before switching on again.
The site shop is surprisingly well-stocked - I did a full BBQ with everything (including the disposable BBQ and with the exception of vegetables) sourced from the shop and they have a good range of campsite essentials, cooking odds and ends, fuses, plugs, cables etc, etc.
TV reception is bad (despite the CC book saying it is 'fair') and our friends couldn't get the advertised Wi-Fi to work.
Nothing within walking distance (although a nice walk into the forest above the site) and the road alongside the site, although not busy, seems to be the local speed-testing track for some strange reason.
All the facilities and big supermarkets are in Hereford, 5 miles up the road and there are several good, local pubs (try the Bunch of Carrots on the way to Hereford).
All in all, great site and we would happily return (in fact, our friends have already booked for next year and we may be joining them).

Just returned from our first visit to Lucksall, had a nice relaxing weekend, I suppose good weather does help!
The staff were very pleasant, helpful and very informative about the local area. A nice relaxed approach as well, arrived on Friday and weren't too bothered about taking our money until Saturday.
Site is very well presented and obviously been subjected to a spending spree over the winter, new planting and what looks like new pitches for tents [if not new they are very tidy] and a new/spruced up dog walk.
If you fish this must be one of the best sites with fishing facilities around, you can even book pitches on the banks of the River Wye, excellent!
Lovely open views from the site across the local area.
Walking is plentiful and they can even take in the local watering holes, if you so require, food good as well in the Green Man in Fownhope.
Reception area has a small shop with usual bits and pieces but also has a nice little cafe with seating facilities on the river bank for the summer.
Any criticism of the site is the motorhome service point is a bit small, you need to drive/reverse into it, this won't take much more than a 7-8m van, there is a waste water dump facility but not a drive over one, so you'll need an extension for your waste outlet if its not at the rear of your van.
Two well presented toilet blocks at present, the main block seems small but never had to wait to use the facilities, it may be a bit busy in the peak periods though. Having said that, there is obvious plans to add another toilet block, the base is cast already.
No kids in tow but the facilities look good [climbing frames etc and open grass areas] but be aware of the river, it does flow fast.
All in all a really nice site and would definitely return.

I last visited this site about 5 years ago. It is still a lovely site in a wonderful location on the banks of the river Wye. The Staff are friendly and helpful with a well stocked reception shop and the grounds are well looked after and attractive. During school holidays the site is over run with screaming children who dominate the site from dawn till late at night but if you're ok with that then it's no problem. The toilets are dated but clean although inadequate when the site is busy.

Stayed here for the first time in September 09, read the reviews and wasn't disappointed, its a really nice place to stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
It was a great location for getting about, if you havent got a car there is a bus stop right on the doorstep.
We didn't really try the local pubs but did have a chinese takeaway only 4 miles away, which was nice. Supermarkets are only a short drive away too.
We don't have children so cannot comment on the facilities for them.
The grass is constantly being mown and looks really well cared for. The pitches are bigger than most sites and are very clean and tidy.
The toilet and shower blocks were very very clean, the only, prehaps, minor thing I wasn't happy about was the use of a shower curtain, I didn't think this was very hygienic as it clings to you and everyone else that will use it straight after you. This was the only shower that had a removable shower head, all the other showers were fixed.
There needs to be more doggy bins.
The television reception was very very poor, but we watched our dvd's so not a problem.
The cockerel got on our nerves making itself known very early in the morning !
So only a few minor niggles for us. And having said that its one of the nicest, cleanest and friendliest we have been to and will def go back again and will recommend it to our friends.

A very clean and neatly laid out campsite. The river ran along the edge of the site providing a nice touch. A well stocked shop at reception for all the necessary provisions.
The facilities were excellent, clean and ample for the size of the site. The toilet block had about 4 or 5 loos, 3 showers (20p), hairdryer (20p). Covered washing up area with hot water. Laundret (not used)
The pitches were level. Well drained and a good size. Though it was wet when we visited the ground around the tent didn't become waterlogged. However, the path from the camping area to the toilet blocks did get very muddy and slippy.
The surrounding area was pretty, visiting Symmonds Yat and climbing Symmonds Rock which had great views. There didn't seem to be much in walking distance of the site, we were told there was a pub about a mile away but the walk looked as though it would have been along the main road.
All in all an area I'd be keen to explore more. The campsite had excellent facilities but perhaps the site was a bit too neat and tidy and well provisioned for my taste. I prefer my camping a bit more rustic and less regimented!

EASY ACCESS ROADS TO CAMPSITE (Coming from South Devon).
This site is situated right next to the river ideal for any canoeist. Friendly staff. Toilet block was always clean with plenty of toilet roll. Radio played 24/7 which was different but nice.
The only things I could think of for improvements were an extra toilet block down the far end as it was a very long way to walk.
I didn't have to queue once for any facilities though.
The roosters I could have done without.
Oh and the *Grumpy Guy* (as our camping neighbours called him) mowed the grass EVERYDAY. Ok for him with his ear defenders on, but way too loud for anyone sat outside. Sunday should have been a 'No Mowing Day' at least.
Clean and tidy site, plenty of pitch room.

This site is situated in a wonderful spot right on the river Wye.
Fishing licence can be bought on site £30 per wk/£5 per day. Hubby heartbroken that he didn't catch a barbel but he caught loads of chub.
Canoes can be hired on site - £15/2hrs or £40 from 10 - 2 to paddle downstream (8.5 miles) and get picked up at the other end. Very nice pub waiting at other end with lovely food!
We were situated in the furthest field. The pitch sizes are generous and well marked out. The only criticism we had with the pitches was that we had a fence at the back with another tent on the other side, so our bedrooms were intimately close as we had both pitched close to our respective side of the fence. We knew who'd had beans for tea!
Loads of room for children to play in front of the pitches too.
This field could be problematic if camping with young children - toilet facilities a reasonable walk away but no problem for us.
Lots of dogs on site - we had our 2 with us - very dog friendly and all the dogs were well behaved. Nice dog walk around the edge of the camping fields.
No light pollution here - lots of stars to see.
There were some very inconsiderate and noisy campers (4 units together) who thought it acceptable to swear and make lots of noise after 11pm. This was dealt with efficiently by the owners.
Don't think I can add any more that hasn't already been said, only to agree that walking to the pub not an option with 2 dogs/kids. The road is a B road, but is used like a race track at times. The road noise did not disturb us though.
Lots of supermarkets/fast food places if you need them.
We had a fantastic holiday here and are hoping to go back for a weekend at the start of Sept. Would highly recommend this site

This site is great, well tarmacked roads, immaculate grass pitches and well marked out. We stayed for 2 nights on the way back from Cornwall.
Pitch size is great - we have a very large tent and the owners were happy to offer us a choice of pitches. Pitches are ample sized and flat and not at all stoney so no bent tent pegs here.
This site has a brilliant play area for children, ours loved it.
The staff were so helpful and friendly which really helps make you feel welcome.
The shop is well stocked, we thoroughly enjoyed the locally sourced burgers, bacon and sausages.
The site is right on the edge of the river and we had a lovely walk along the river bank one evening.
The toilet/shower block was clean. Showers were 20p. Our only gripe was the huge distance from the tent pitches (we were in the furthest away field) to the toilets - which wasn't ideal when we have a 4 year old who seems to need the toilet every 30 minutes.
Visited Hereford (plenty large supermarkets) which is a lovely town.
Really wish we had more time to spend in this area as the campsite was a great place to stay.

This site was 5 stars
We was in a party of 5 families and was given a lovely area so we could all be together on the first night we were little noisy. And with a little reminder from Steve the site manager we turned the noise down.
Sorry Steve
Love the music playing in the toilets nice touch

Lovely site, well stocked shop a clean toilets but you need to be wary on foot when visiting the toilet block as kids on bikes are tearing about the place. Large children's playground in the middle of the site where they happily scream from morning until night, make sure you choose a pitch as far away from this as possible unless you have children.
We hired a kayak on-site and paddled to Ross on Wye (19 miles) for a full day which was fabulous. At the end of your journey they collect you and bring you and the canoe back to the site so no need to paddle upstream!
Recommend visiting the Cider Museum in Hereford, Dunkerton’s Cider, Symonds Yat. National Trust properties, Croft Castle, Barrington Hall and The Weir.
Having booked a Riverside pitch I was astounded on the first day to open the kitchen blind which backed onto the river to see someone stood there, mug in hand standing on what we thought to be our private access to the riverbank. Personally I would not dream of walking behind someone else’s caravan. I had called reception who agreed this should not happen. As this continued throughout the day we bought a windbreak for one side and parked the car at the other as we did not want this intrusion on our privacy.
The on our last evening our next door but one neighbour demanded access to the river via our pitch (despite having blocked access to his own with bikes and enough windbreaks to deter anyone!). I explained what we had been told by reception about privacy on our pitch to no avail so had to call the warden. He denied what I had been told but did ask the gentleman (?) in question to respect our request for privacy. This was respected but left us both very stressed on our final evening of our holiday. Surprisingly the next morning he apologised! Shame he didn’t think beforehand as it spoilt our break.
