We stayed here for two weeks last summer and have booked to go again this year.
The site itself is relatively easy to get to but distance wise it's about as far as it's possible to go on the mainland in Cornwall. Once we arrived the staff were very helpful and showed us to our pitch in one of the lower fields. The pitch was dry and well marked. There was a slight slope but I don't mind that as it improves drainage. There is a sea view over the bay. The electric hook up was on our pitch so no issues there. The bathroom facilities were at the top of our field with some others close by in the next field. They were modern enough and kept clean throughout our stay and were reasonably priced at 50p for the showers.
We always try to camp somewhere close to the beach and Chy Carne is well placed with a 20-30 mins walk downhill to Kennack Sands along the lane, or a slightly longer route through the wood. Kennack is a perfectly good beach with a cafe and decent facilities, however we found that we preferred another beach near Mullion a short drive away.
As we have a young family, some facilities for the kids are preferred although our kids swerved the children's area at Chy Carne as it always seemed too busy and a bit too boisterous. Perhaps a bit more open space for kids to play in would be a suggested improvement for the owners to consider.
There is a temporary bar on site which works well. The shop is very well stocked. The fire pits are fantastic and decent value, and the pizza shop and snack bar is a great option to have when you can't be bothered to cook!
We left booking 2018s summer holiday late this year but were delighted and surprised to see Chy Carne still had some availability, and were more than happy to book again.

This is quite a large site. We arrived late after a puncture, the owners were very accommodating, keeping open for later arrivals (we were not the only ones). There are good facilities after a long walk we had a very welcome pizza, there is also a snack bar. The site is well situated for the Coastal Path which is close and, for walkers there is a bus stop by the gate.

Large site with views over the sea. Some areas quite muddy after rain. Bar tent has music, which could bother you if you are nearby. Good Toilets, Showers (coin operated) and washing facilities (extra cost). Wi-Fi available at an extra cost. Electric hook up also available at extra cost. Main shops about a couple of miles away. Plenty of sightseeing and walks around. Child friendly, especially with their static caravans.

We loved it here the facilities were excellent plenty of toilet and shower blocks and wash facilities. We had a hook up pitch that was great. There were play areas for kids
We picked our pitch when booking on line that was a bonus although we were on a slight hill
The beer tent was great but not rowdy at all
We didn't eat from the bar hut or pizza place on site but people were recommending them
We hired a fire pit and got logs and kindling from the shop on site
The shop is well stocked and quite reasonable for a convenience store in Cornwall
The views were amazing
Wifi was reasonably priced
Can't wait to visit again

We had an absolutely brilliant stay at Che Carne!
We arrived and headed straight to reception, where we were quickly 'checked in' and given directions to our pitch. Yes, it was on a bit of a slope but nothing that careful pitching can't work around and not a problem for us. Electric hook-up was right next to our pitch.
Toilets and showers were super clean every time we visited and we never had to queue, which was brilliant for August! The temperature of the shower was consistently warm.
The shop was great and had everything we needed, including camping gear, gas and basic food & drink. The snack shack hot dogs were great and service was fast and efficient. We drank in The Marquee Arms, the on site pub, on a number of occasions and found staff friendly and drink prices competitive.
On the Thursday night we went along to the pub quiz and had a really good evening; a great atmosphere. There were no problems during our weeks stay and we always found the staff approachable and helpful.
Our dog was welcomed on site and the whole place had a lovely, relaxed atmosphere, which considering we were there in August, is pretty amazing. Lovely area with lots to do and see.
Wouldn't hesitate in visiting Che Carne again and would definitely recommend it to friends.

Our family stayed at Chy Carne in the first two weeks in August and it has to be said, the site was fantastic! Not only does the site have great views, but is very well maintained, with spotlessly clean toilets and showers, (yes, even in August!)and the owners and staff are very friendly and cannot do enough for their guests. We were in a touring caravan, our son and his family were in a Static van and our daughter and her family were in a tent, so a good all round site for every outfit, we were all very happy with our pitches. The marquee bar is a great idea and promotes a friendly atmosphere. The snack shack was well used for fabulous fish and chips and the pizzas were delicious! Clearly the best site we have been to for a long time for cleanliness and friendliness. We will definitely return next year. The Lizard area is a beautiful place with something for everyone.

Pros: Good level of amenities, Nice Site, Friendly Staff, Good Food, Close to beach, Clean facilities, Wifi Option, Pit Fire Hire, large Pitches
Cons: Majority of pitches are on a slope, not enough toilets/showers for peak season, Bin/skip placement, Washing up hot water not hot enough, Showers could be very hot, adjoining campsites had ability to wonder on at any point
All in all we were reasonably happy with this site but in our opinion there are area's where it needs to be improved. At the point of reservation it was confirmed where our pitch would be but upon arrival this wasn't the case, it would also appear we weren't the only ones who this happened to as several parties who wanted to be side by side who were told that it was fine when booking but when it came to it couldn't be.
While there were a good level of amenities it would be better if there was more, we were in the field with the new showers/toilets and to only have 2 toilets and 3 showers(males) 3 toilts and 3 showers (females) when there was at least 30 tents if not more is just not enough. Our general feeling was they were trying to get as many people on the site as they could and I think this was confirmed when several of the electrics points having extensions for another 3 or 4 hook ups instead of the norm.
The majority of the pitches were on a slope and a reasonably steep one so not the best when trying to cook.
The facilities were clean but again could have done with being cleaned and checked more often, this may coincide again with the amount of people staying there.
Big Daddy's pizza served good quality food that was well priced as well as the Shacka Carne. Not sure on the bar as never used it.
The staff were all polite and very helpful but potentially rather thin, as you have to be shown to your pitch we had to wait a good 10-15 mins before he was free to do that.
The pit fires that you can hire are a great idea but I do think they are over priced, certainly when buying the wood etc from the shop.
Wifi works, not the best and rather expensive but in fairness no more than other places, but does need to be improved with the level of communication that people require now a days.
Bins outside the showers and toilets weren't in the nicest place to be fair.
Also on the last day we were questioned by a family over pricing which seemed odd until they told they were from the campsite over the way and had used one of the dog walks to enter the site and use the facilities, I suppose this just begs the question around security for me.
The site is a dog friendly site which is great but at times I did feel there were to many of them, may be if they limited the number that would be better. Oh and make sure you take several 50p's for the showers as we did have issues getting them to accept the coin.
For the kids - Swings, play area so no complaints there.
Good location with good beach near(walking distance) and close to places of interest.
Would we go back - No, not in current format, would need to see improvements in the site first.

Pros:-
Really friendly and helpful staff, large pitches, sea views (from some pitches), good location for coastal walking. Marquee-bar with seating and entertainment, on-site choice of food, chimnea hire, Flambards less than 10 miles away
Cons:-
Most pitches are on slopes, not enough toilets/showers
(new ones on way? new sheds on site but not open. In high season), 'Pay for' showers that don't take 10p coins, Expect to pay top dollar for food and drink. And anything from shop. Local beach small and rocky with broken glass/rubbish on it, 'dog beach' not ideal either.
Summary:- Not fantastic value. High price then charges on top for everything. Showers, sketchy expensive Wi-Fi,
NOTE - little or no mobile signal in this area.
Being from Cornwall and a fairly seasoned camper I feel that there is better camping available in Cornwall for less money, in better locations. To clarify we look for a nice base where we can explore on foot then chillax with a beer or bottle of wine or a quieter drink in the bar. We wouldn't need more than fresh milk from a shop. But that's us and our opinion only. If you want a base to explore this end of Cornwall by car then let somebody do all the cooking in the evening then this is site will be ok for you.
How they could improve the site? Maybe they should stop trying to do everything and get the basics right first. Don't change the staff though!

Stayed here for 1 night when touring Cornwall. V nice campsite with some great pitches (some have great views of the coast). Some were uneven, but nothing the balance ramps wouldn't solve. Good access to electric points. They have put a large marquee up with outside chairs, pool table(I think - under cover) and a bar and takeaway hut. These weren't open when we arrived but they were getting everything ready for the season. You can hire firepits, but would be better if they made the logs cheaper! Great location for visiting Lizard. Easy roads to drive down
Would stay again

We booked for 12 nights on this site based on the nicely presented website, the ability to book your own pitch and the 'Marquee Arms' on site bar.
We telephoned to book, however after leaving 2 answer machine messages with no reply we just decided to book using the online service, which enabled you to book your own pitch, which we liked as we were able to book a pitch in close proximity to the toilets.
On arrival the reception was closed but we were greeted by the owner who advised us that we could choose which pitch we wanted and that they only had 1 toilet block open. They had shut down the toilet block that we had booked to be close to, therefore we did go to a different pitch, which turned out to be flatter than the original pitch we had chosen.
We didn't notice when booking that the showers were charged as extra, as we normally would not have booked this having that knowledge. The showers were not to our liking as the lights, which appeared to be on motion sensors in the middle of the toilet block, went off mid-shower (on the cubicles that did have working lights as 2 in the ladies did not come on at all). There are no temperature controls on the showers and I personally found them too hot. My husband put his money in and did not receive the length of shower that he had paid for. The toilet block was generally clean but there was no facilities to clean up after you had used the facilities, e. G. Mop, toilet brush, therefore at times you had to shower after other campers/caravanners in a cubicle covered in grass and muddy footprints.
The shop had limited opening times, and on 2 occasions during these specified times when we went to use the shop it was closed and we had to leave and go back at a later time. Also it appeared that they were 'shutting down' for the winter as all the stock had been taken off the shelves and was being 'organised'. The pizza takeaway was 'open' but you had to call a mobile telephone number if you wanted a pizza. We utilised this service only once during our stay. We were also looking forward to using 'shakacarne' the other takeaway, however after using it on our first day, it then shut down for the season.
We used the Marquee Arms on 1 occasion. It seemed to not have regular opening or closing times, opening around 7-7:30 and closing around 9-10:30. On the occasion we did use it we found it to be cold as it was an open marquee with no patio type heating. The floor of the bar is hardcore therefore was not suitable for our dogs to lie down on. We were asked at 10pm for our last orders and when we received our drinks were asked by the bar staff to shut off all the lights when we had finished as they locked the bar and left! We decided that the pub around the corner from the site was more dog friendly, warmer and welcoming, therefore went there every night instead!
The bins by the toilet block were overflowing when we arrived, and were not emptied until around a week later. This did create a nasty smell and was a reason for not choosing a pitch closer to the toilets as we had previously wanted.
Due to the experiences with the shop, closing of the toilets, bar and takeaways, we were left with the feeling of being second rate customers as we had come in mid season rather than high season.
Despite all this we can say that all interactions with the owners of the site were positive. They were all very helpful and friendly, and acted very quickly to rectify some concerns/needs that we had. The site itself appears very well maintained otherwise, and is in a very convenient position for coastal walks and for Kennack Sands which is around a mile downhill, a little more to get to Kennack Sands West which is the dog friendly beach, which we found fantastic.
Despite these positives we will not be returning to Chy Carne as we tend to holiday in mid season, and it appears that people get better experiences in high season only.
