Family orientated site with two play grounds one for the younger children and one for the older ones. Our daughter was rarely in the tent with us as she sent most of her time in the park, and we were pitched not far from it so we could see and hear her at all times. Very friendly site again as our daughter made some friends if she was out late they would walk her back to the tent to make sure she got home safely, I was very grateful for this as the site gets pitch black at night.

The shop is well stocked and reasonably priced. It is however one of the nearest shops there, the games room was okay but only really had and air hockey and pool table in them.

We did have an initial hiccup when we first arrived as we were unaware that we couldn't pitch up till about two in the afternoon and we had booked with a friend and he had originally been pitched no where near us, but the lads sorting us out were extremely helpful and sorted it out right away for us.

There were plenty of water taps around and you were never far from one. The toilets and showers were always clean and tidy and the showers were coin operated but this wasn't a problem. There is a large marquee in the middle of the site that is open most of the time and was quite friendly if you wanted a drink in the evening, there was also a little food area called shaka carne were you could get breakfast and dinners from and it was reasonably priced and the food was nice.

A very short walk to the beach a bit of a climb coming back as its on a hill but easy none the less. They had a information area in the washing up that was stocked with leaflets about attractions and special offers for places.

The water in the washing up area was always hot but they only had a few sinks so if you miss timed you had a bit of a wait.

It was just a shame we cut our holiday a little short but this was not down to the campsite but the torrential rain we had that summer.

We did have a little problem finding it but once we knew where it was it was fine, although some of the roads to get there are small single track lanes, and we struggled a little with the trailer.

Although we enjoyed our stay and found it great value for money we decided not to go back again as when we looked to re-book the following year the prices were a bit steep.
Management response: Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us

Just on one point you made regarding next year and our prices. All our prices have been held at this years tariff so I am not really sure why they would be higher.

Please contact us and we will be happy to help you.

Thank you Chycarne

My friend and I stayed here for 5 days whilst visiting another friend.

The pitches are nice and big and the Marquee Bar and snack bar are very reasonably priced.

The dog field is very accessible, although owners need to be encouraged to pick up after their dogs mess.

The electric hook-up is very reliable, but did see many multisocket attachments on the mains which didn't look very safe.

The toilets were very clean, although they could do with more than two for one field as in the morning it was incredibly crowded.

Having had to pay a minimum of 50pence for a shower which we were prepared to pay, however we expected the showers to be a high quality power shower and these were of the most basic variety (due to which most campsites include the cost of in their fees) and the water kept losing pressure and at one point the lights cut off leaving me to shower in the dark.

Overall our stay was lovely but if these few points were acted upon it would vastly improve the experience.
Management response: Thank you for leaving your comments. Overall we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us.

A few comments that you have made we feel require a response from us. Firstly there are a number of dog bins situated around the park. Most owners understand the rules and will clean up after there dogs. Of course from time to time there are owners that don`t and this is wholly unacceptable. We do monitor the park and any mess will be cleaned up when reported or spotted.

All our electric hook ups meet the required 17th edition regulations .The attachments are merely plugs and are all safe to use, there is no danger associated with there use providing they are used correctly.

We appreciate that we require more toilets to this area so in 2013 a further 6 toilets will be added and a further three washing up stations. But clearly if everybody decides to use the toilets at the same time then a queue will form and of course it depends how long an individual spends in the toilet. The showers you are referring to are one year old, and fitted with Anti vandal heads and non concussive water saving valves. The shower cubicles are fitted with seating and are tiled. The showers are powered by state of the art water pumps from our pump room.

We did experience a double problem during the 5 days of your stay. Firstly our borehole pump failed leaving the tank empty overnight, and secondly our mains water pipe was damaged due to a spike being driven into it accidentally. This alone meant that not enough water was available to satisfy demand. Both problems were dealt with robustly as soon as they were reported.

Charging for the showers was introduced by customer recommendations to reduce waiting times at the showers. This has clearly worked as we have no reports of excessive wait times occurring during peak periods. Non concussive valves are fitted to prevent water wastage as water in the south west is very expensive. For example for each shower alone the water and sewage costs approx 40 pence per 5 minute shower. We decided that to off set the shower charge that we reduced our overall camping tariff.

Recently we were regraded by the AA and our new grading is a AA 4 pennant at 86% just short of a 5 pennant, the highest grade possible.

Camping at Chycarne for two adults per night is £16.00 less 20 % VAT in real terms thats £12.80 Out of this comes all the other costs such as wages etc .The lights within the shower blocks works on noise and movement sensors. Any movement or noise will reactivate the lights .This is an energy saving device. If the power had failed then the showers would have switched of as they work to a solenoid valve in the pipe work.

We hope that this answers the points you raised and that it will not cause any confusion. Be rest assured that we are listening and we do act upon all comments and clearly we can not always get it 100% right but we are working hard to achieve this.

We hope to see you again Chycarne

2nd year at Chy C love it love it love it. My son Liam loves it, we love it and my daughter will love it this year too as she turns 2! Just some small criticism. Wasnt happy paying for the showers this time round (toilets are well kept, well done to the guys who maintained them) and the Beer and Pizza prices are too expensive but I suppose you need to keep afloat so I wont moan too much about it! John in the on site pub was great we became good friends but the entertainment just needed to be brought upto scratch, as the pub quiz was crap and the only highlight was the Olympic closure on the TV. I just want to say thanks to guys who put on the mini Olympics for the kids as well THANKS GUYS. The food at the Snack shack was brill as its now franchised out as well and are lovely people the tuna steaks are cracking very reasonably priced I'd say.

We fancied a change this year and priced up nearly all the other campsites in Cornwall and still this is the cheapest ( where has the online discount gone ) and my misses said she was glad because she and the kids are happier here and more secure so happy days. Booking soon for last week in July 13 for 2weeks.

P.S try to slow the cars down near the kids play area and pub - I know it isn't your fault but there are some idiots on the roads these days.

 A very warm, welcome

Lots of pitches to choose from and a sea view as a bonus.

Facilities were very good and toilets and showers cleaned and maintained well too, play area for kids plus games room too.

Small shack selling burgers and breakfasts ect at good prices, also a camp shop in case of home comforts ect.

Staff are more than helpful, should you need local places to go and see, including mennack sands, cadgwith cove, goonhilly.

Reviewer: Alanterri 65 reviews from this member

We stayed here so my sister family and mum could hire a static caravan.

The statics are well past their sell by date. The two toilets over the entire holiday had broken seats that the site staff couldn't fix. Odd that.

The statics are ex Parkdean homes units. A real cast off! Health and safety is a worry. The door from the lounge opens to the outside without any steps! A drop of three feet!

We used the touring park and generally had no issues. We didn't get the 'sea view' pitch booked and promised but what we had was ok. Unlike Caravan Club sites there seems to be no regulation on closeness to the adjacent punits. With windows opened I could have kissed next doors wife goodnight.

Rack em, pack em and stack em!

On the good side all the staff were very friendly, calling all 'Darling''. Very amusing and warming.

The toilets were immaculate. I never queued once, all were spotless. Showers at 50p for 5 minutes is mean especially when we paid £353 for two weeks. So we used our own shower using their water and EHU to heat our own water. Odd that charge

The dog walk was excellent and being down a steep hill and up again was great for working off the excesses of the on site Marquee Arms and Pizza Burger take away. I hope they keep these facilities and improve upon them. Very good.

I'm mindful we were here at the peak of the season so all said and done it was acceptable, in fact amusing. Not their fault the water failed but then that happens on the best of sites.

Location for the Southern tip of Cornwall is excellent.

The pub down the road was ok. It served a purpose but you wouldn't want it as your local.

Harbour heights beach side Bistro at Coverack is a must.

Overall there was a muddled charm to Chy Carne. I' d go back but it won't be at the top of my list.

Great for kids too. Please oil those squeaky swings!
Management response: Thank you for your review. We feel that you have made a few points that need clarification as to not misrepresent Chycarne holiday park and that these comments are your opinions and not that of many of the visitors we welcome to Chycarne every year both camping and in our static caravans.

We offer real value for money in our static caravans A three bedroom static in the peak of season at £450.00 is a real steal compared to the parkdean site down the road at nearly a thousand pounds. All the caravans have undergone a programme of refurbishments and that includes the toilet seats. We have had a problem with the fixing bolts but sadly this as been associated with larger people. Our engineer did visit on 5 occasions to tighten the bolts but they seem to have worked there way loose, Strange that.. Your remark regarding that the statics are well past there sell by date is silly, A 1970 vw camper to hire for a week costs £600.00. They call that" glamping" If you want a new caravan then you better get your cheque book out as you can double what we charge. Some of the caravans have been totally refurbished and a programme is in place this winter to to complete the remaining statics.

All the caravans are inspected yearly and your suggestion that health and safety is a worry is unfounded. Clearly you should only be reporting on what you do know and not making assumptions on things that you don`t. The doorway from the lounge is a means of escape in the need to exit the caravan quickly. Most caravans to day only have one door and most visitors find that one door is enough. To most this is not an issue but its funny what some people will complain about.

We further note your comments regarding the touring pitches. We do not charge extra like some parks for sea views and therefore we do not guarantee them. The weather and ground conditions this summer as meant that we had to make changes to the pitch plan. This situation was forced on to us and sometimes a little understanding would be appreciated by some visitors instead of just bringing up the negative.

Chycarne is not a stuffy site and welcomes visitors to relax and enjoy themselves without worrying whether the caravan is pitched straight or the lights are out at 10pm. We appreciate that for most of us life is stressful enough without owners going around barking rules and regulations. Our only rule is respect your fellow campers, whilst on site and everybody will be happy but I suppose there will always be one person that will upset the apple cart. I suppose given your review that you are a regular visitor to caravan club sites but there are horses for courses and maybe Chycarne is the wrong type of course for you.

Clearly we are in business to earn a living and our busy period the summer 6 weeks, and thats it. Outside of this the whole area is quiet with few visitors about. Chycarne is a popular site in the summer for very good reason We appreciate your positive comments. Yes we are friendly, unusual that. Our toilet and shower facilities are very expensive to maintain. Clearly visitors will complain if standards are not met, For very good reason, This will never happen on our watch. The charge for showers was introduced as some visitors were found to be misusing the showers and spending up to 40 minutes at a time. Clearly this would not have effected you but then again thats why you would have been charged for the electric hook up. Since we introduced the charge we have not suffered one complaint for long queues, Funny that. And it's not mean either because as mindful owners we lowered our camping price to reflect the charge giving the customer the choice on how many times that want to shower and in some cases not to shower at all. Hopefully that explains the charge. Not odd really but makes perfect sense.

You make a mention of your charge of £353.00 clearly 20% of this is VAT. So lets get real, thats £70.00 VAT (Blame the government) So in real terms we have charged you £280.00 for 14 nights. Thats £20.00 per night again a real steal compared to other sites charging well in excess of this for a AA4 pennant site. Sadly whilst you visited we did have the unfortunate situation that the water flow was cut off. Sadly we can not control our water supplier but it was only off for a very short time.

We are pleased that our other facilities met with your approval and I will pass on your comments to all the staff and make sure that they get a real good pat on the back. Possibly we will see you again in the near future

We visit Cornwall as often as possible but have never stayed at Chy Carne before. We are so glad we now have.

A wonderful, friendly, clean site that we will be definitely be stopping at again. Upon arrival we were met by a member of staff and escorted to our pitch and able to choose our own spot. (Very rare for most sites we have stopped at). The staff were all friendly and made us feel very welcome. The facilities were all clean and tidy and we saw all facilities being cleaned regularly. The showers were lovely and warm and we never had to queue once.

Our young daughter also loved the site and she was able to run around and play in the fields and the playground with no danger at all.

Before we stopped at Chy Carne we checked out the web site and saw a few comments with regards to the facilities, cleanliness, grass not being cut etc. I must say, after our stay, that we found nothing at all to justify any of these comments and so glad we glad we focussed on the positive reviews and in fact we saw that when other campers left the site the lads were straight down with the lawn mowers. The noise was at a minimum and through our entire 15 night stay we had no trouble with noise.

The Snack Shack was excellent value for money and the on site shop had all the adequate provisions, it even had air beds which unfortunately we had to purchase on our first day due to a puncture in ours.

The surrounding area included a beautiful beach with only a 10 minute walk and as well as the bar on site there is a pub with a 5 minute walk.

I'm sorry to put a negative into this but the only complaint we had was coming home.

Many thanks for the wonderful holiday and we definitely be seeing you all again.

Me and a large group of 16 year olds that had just finished exams went camping for a few days. We were given our own field which was good for us and probably good for the other campers. None of us could fault any aspects of the campsite, I only wish it was closer to where I live (but you can't blame them for that).

It was in a great location, very close to the beach and had we had transport we would have gone into town and visited the area, which was recommended to us a few times.

I have no complaints about the facilities, the toilets were accessible and always very clean and there was even music provided. The showers were the same, clean, accessible, available and reasonably priced.

However what stood out the most was the staff. Because during my stay I had a small emergency and was too far away from home for my parents to do anything. They were very concerned and incredibly helpful and without them I would have been put in a very awkward position. They asked for nothing in return and I can't say thank you enough for everything.

Despite my emergency I look forward to returning at some point and recommend the campsite to everyone that's reading and once again, thank you very much.

Just returned from a six day stay at Chy Carne.

Pitched our Outwell Kuaui Reef on the top field with EHU - with a fantastic view over Kennack Sands beach.

As per the comments of a previous reviewer - we also found that the high number of marker posts make it a bit confusing to work out exactly where the pitches are. Pitches on top field are reasonably level (as was ours), and are generously sized - but the ground was a bit stony a few inches down, which made pegging out a bit of a chore.

Our pitch was equidistant between the older shower/toilet block on the top field, and the newer blocks on the lower camping field, so we checked both out. Couldn't get into the newer blocks in the end though - they were locked. Older block in the top field was well maintained, and seemed to be cleaned multiple times through the day. Even when torrential rain meant the gents block got flooded - a few hours later they were all cleaned up and usable again. Top work!

The showers themselves however, are a bit of a mixed bag. Though they're always clean, and are a reasonable size - it came as a bit of a surprise to find that they're were coin-operated - costing 50p for the first 5 minutes, then 10p per minute after that. For me, that meant a quid a day - as I like a reasonably long shower. The water temperature is fixed - you can't adjust it - but is still a bit variable. Some mornings it was acceptably hot, on others a bit tepid. Don't know if it's a capacity issue or something, but the bolier in the gents did seem to be working v. Hard on the mornings when the water was a bit cold.

What I couldn't work out was why, if the water flow is controlled by the coin-op timer, why there was also a push-button valve on the shower you also had to press every 30s. Quite irritating that, especially as that push-valve cutting off the flow of water didn't stop the timer counting down on your remaining money!

The missus reported that the hairdryer in the ladies was also a 50p coin-op job. She also complained that the ladies showers didn't have somewhere to sit/place clothes/get dressed - except in the larger family shower. I found that odd, as there was a little fold-down seat for that very purpose in all the gents shower cubicles.

Washing up facilities were always clean & tidy, and there were also washers / tumble driers in there too.

The site was very quiet when we where there, so there were no queues for toilets/showers at any times.

In fact, it was so windy during our stay - that ours was the last but one tent left on site, it was almost deserted. Can hardly blame the site for the weather though - I imagine on sunny days it'd be glorious there so close to the coast.

There's absolutely no 'phone signal (at least with Vodafone) on most of the site - so if you want connectivity, plan on taking advantage of the site Wi-Fi. It's reasonably priced at 12 quid for a week, and was fast enough for me to watch an F1 race at full definition via 'Sky Go' on a tablet with no problems at all.

In all a good site, well placed close to a nice beach, with very friendly owners/staff, that's well maintained.

We'll definitely be back at some point!
Management response: Thank you for your review. Clearly we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. A few points you have raised to others to read that we feel need clarification.

The white marker posts are only situated on the top main touring fields. All our pitches are of a oblong shape. We have found that more visitors prefer them to not as they clearly define the pitch. No arguments like on many sites as to where the tent pegs should be. Many of the pitches do have a stony subbase this allows the pitch to drain much faster in wetter weather. Sadly this year we have seen far too much off.

The shower charge was introduced following a number of complaints of excessive overstay and misuse, often commented on in other reviews. We looked at ways to discourage this from happening and the only way that felt suitable was to introduce a charge. We are pleased to announce that this has clearly worked and we have had no reports of excessive queues occurring. To off set the charge we lowered our camping tariff to reflect the charge. This gives our visitors the choice - most sites make the charge in their tariff but we believe that this will soon change with the increase of business operating costs.

The shower temperature is set through mixers. This is a safety precaution to prevent individuals from scolding themselves. The water heater associated to the showers is very large in capacity and works by storing hot water and reheating the cold water on demand. I can assure you that this boiler is never working at maximum. The showers are set at 40c, some people like them hotter some like them colder. Sometimes it can depend on the outside temperature. The Non concussive valves installed prevent water wastage. All campsites have them fitted, water is very expensive and it only requires you to push the valve in. There is on the market a device that holds the valve in for you.

The coin meter operates the water solenoid that opens and allows the water to flow. We have found that most all visitors feel that 5 minutes is adequate time to shower. Clearly if you like to spend longer then this is the very reason why the meters have been installed. We have had cases of visitors being in the showers for 40 minutes, I know if that was me I would be very irritated and complain that there was not enough showers when clearly it's a misuse situation.

Further points: Of course the hair dyers will attract a charge. They simply cost money to buy, to install and electric isn't free. They require maintaining and then servicing and then replacing. All the ladies showers are fitted with the same shower seat as the mens, just a different colour.

Sadly the only phone signal that seems to work better is Orange. Our WiFi is new to the site and is provided by an outside source. From time to time we have had a few problems but the company have assured us that as the newer and better equipment becomes available then we will be upgraded.

Well we hope that this just clarifies your points you raised and look forward to your return visit in the near future.
Thank you
Chycarne

Too many marker posts. That is about as bad as it got for us. Asked for a pitch with EHU and a sea view and that is exactly what we got.

Big top beer tent and food if you cannot be bothered to cook. Lovely coast walk to Cagdwith and a pint or two of Doombar what more do you want?

Kids were grumpy until they found there was Wifi (paid £24 for a week with multiple devices & run by a third party) although this was a little hit or miss.

Toilets were clean and tidy but site not up to capacity. However reading other posts looks like they have recently added a small block to the camping site.

For us in Jubilee weekend incredible value for money

Will stay again sometime

Had a great weekend everything was as we would like, nice helpful people a little regimented maybe but it didn't bother us

All the facilities were great and everyone seemed to be having a good time. The water could have been a bit hotter. But not a complaint probably when I went

The views were great from the site and the area was beautiful the scenery and the weather all added up to a unforgettable weekend for me and my family.

Other members have gone this week although not having the great weather we did but still having a good time

We will be back
