Liked this site a lot. However, it's a steep narrow road up to the site.
Although we were pitched amongst the tourers. That wasn't really a problem and the pitches were huge. But they were gravel. Ideal if there's lots of rain which can happen in the lakes but we were fortunate to have very good weather over the bank holiday weekend. Had a couple of pegs bend while trying to pitch.
There were 4 showers. These were nice and hot with plenty of pressure but you have to press the button to keep the water flowing. Not that that bothered me. And they're free, which they should be. And I didn't have to queue once and they were immaculate.
My male friend said the showers were cold when he used them!
The shop on site sells a variety of items and seemed well stocked. Fish and chip shop on site reasonably priced but limited items on the menu.
We didn't go into the bar or use the games room so can't comment on those.
There was no major noise after 11pm. However I was woken a few times by nearby dogs howling in the early hours! I thought there was a dog kennel nearby! The sound was eerie in the early hours that I thought I was in a Twilight film!
I'm sure I heard a Woodpecker a couple of times in the morning but that was a nice sound compared to the hounds of hell!
Overall the site was lovely. Well maintained. I didn't see the main camping field so can't comment on that. Ideal base for visiting many areas of The Lakes and Morrisson's and an Aldi are 10 minutes up the road in Penrith if you need more than basic provisions.
Would definitely return to this site.

Lovely caravan site. Our second visit here and I'm sure won't be our last. Facilities excellent, lovely and clean. Layout of site lovely, with large pitches, plenty of room for van and awning. We pitched again next to the play area which is perfect for our 3 year old as he could just play out and was always in sight. Nice and peaceful at this time of year, without being deserted. Great location, good food at the pub in Pooley Bridge, and easy for exploring other parts of the lakes.

Nice site, stunning views, excellent facilities. Staff really helpful(I couldn't get a TV signal and they lent me a free view box which is required on certain pitches) shower block we used clean and tidy, site very clean and tidy and well presented. Pitches were larger than normal (car, van, awning side by side and still space) really enjoyed stay and will be returning

We stayed at this site for three nights at the beginning of July for the first time. From start to finish we enjoyed the whole of our stay. A warm welcome when we arrived, good level places to pitch our tent and lovely clean shower block (free to shower and lashings of hot water) and toilets.
Fairly quiet when we were here as schools hadn't broken up yet, but there were a few younger children on site, who were catered for with a nice little play area.
The shop was reasonably stocked with a good range of things you may need when camping and there was a freezer outside where you could put your ice packs to refreeze, for which they only charged 5p -we've paid more than that on other sites.
Popped into the bar/clubhouse a couple of nights and received a warm welcome. Again, things to do for the kids- a pool room/play area set aside from the main bar.
Had a great meal at Pooley Bridge in the Pooley Bridge Inn, where again the staff were really welcoming.
Thoroughly enjoyable stay - we will be back!

Stayed here for 9 days in june 2013, again, pitched near park for kids, love this site, peaceful, although not deserted? kids love it, me and the wife love it. New toilet/shower block getting built up top touring field. Walks from the site, which I'm led to believe they are in process of producing some form of map/guide. Always clean and tidy, overall a nice family run site. Always happy to help, friendly, nothing bad to say about site. Considering we've been visiting for 14 years now they must be doing something right

We've just got back from a three night stay at this site. There were 6 families in our group, all in tents and all pitched near each other on the section of the site behind the main reception and bar buildings. First impressions of the site were very good, nice mature bushes and trees segregating each section of the park. It's called the Ullswater Caravan, Campsite and Marina. That's a bit misleading, the Marina is a mile away down a steep hill.
Our tent pitch was on gravel, a bit of a worry initially but we brought an extra tarpaulin to go under the footprint so other than it being a bit hard and jaggy on the feet when in the tent, it didn't cause any other problems.
The weather when we were there was remarkable - really sunny and warm for our two main days, but as fate would have it, just as we were packing up the heavens opened and our tent got soaked - nightmare!
When we booked we asked (and paid) for pitches with electric hook up, we have young kids so heating is essential. When we got there and checked in we were issued three pre-loaded credit power cards to put in our electric meter on the pitch. We were told that they would last us fine for the three days. Aye right - as we say in Scotland. I had a cool box, a light at night and a fan heater on for an hour before bed and an hour in the morning, a kettle for the odd cup of tea and a toaster for a slice of toast in the morning. That's it. I had to buy 5 more cards at £1.10 each.
Here's the (not so) good bit. Some of our group managed on their three cards and one put their first card in and their meter never moved! My overall rating of the site is largely based on this anomaly. Your cost of electric should not be based on where you are allocated to pitch!
Otherwise the site was busy but not crowded, the play park for the kids was really good and the facilities were always clean. The showers ran out of hot water and it was two or three hours before it warmed up again. The shop had more cheap and nasty novelties to tempt the kids than anything else and it seemed pricey for provisions. The fish and chip shop is exactly that - Fish and Chips take it or leave it and quality versus price was questionable. The bar was fine, a kids disco on Saturday and a quiz later for the adults.
All in all a decent site, but reflecting on what it cost there are no excuses, it should be. I wasn't responsible for making the booking so I think I'd have a look around other sites if I was to be going back to Ullswater, though I would most likely go back now I know what to expect.

I have never written a review before but felt the need to write this. My wife, I and 2 daughters aged 7 and 4 stayed at this site as a stopover for Scotland in April. First impressions of the site were very positive very clean and picturesque site albeit a bit of a climb up quite a long hill to reach the site, which they don't mention in advert.
There were freak weather temperatures when we stayed there which mean't at night it went down to -5. We woke up the first morning only to establish that the toilet block had no heating in it. It was so cold you could not walk bare footed so it was very difficult with 2 young children. Nevertheless we were only there for a few nights so we just got on with it. Because it was the other end of the site we did not go into the other shower block until the last night only to establish that it was fully central heated. When I approached the manageress regarding this she stated that the were in the process of upgrading the other block and did not pre warn us of this because if everyone used the one shower block they would run out of hot water, despite us paying exactly the same as the customers with the heated shower block. I found the manager and some of her staff to be rude and lack any empathy. This is quite an expensive site anyway and you expect central heating for what we paid. The electric is also on a metre and we ended up paying extra for this due to the cold weather.
On the positive side the shower blocks were clean and the girls enjoyed the playground which was very good

A superb campsite in a beautiful setting.
The staff were friendly and welcoming when we arrived and they gave us a choice of pitches. The pitches were well marked out. Perhaps only just long enough for our 7m long tent, but was wide enough to park the car up next to us.
The site is nicely divided into areas with hedges and trees around.
The loos and showers in the block near the playground were tiled and clean (have only just read review re reflective ceilings!)
We didn't use any of the facilities on site, but it was nice to know there was a shop and a bar etc. Noted previous comments re chip shop and we bumped into some folks really enjoying their fish and chips (the chip shop is now closed till march)
Our only gripe is the lack of management patrol of the site late at night. A curfew of 11:30pm is too late and no one seemed to patrol and check everyone is following this. Difficult to try and sleep when people are shouting and swearing and drinking excessively into the early hours. If the site had been better patrolled and this sort of behaviour dealt with at the time we would have given them full marks in all areas.

This really is a beautiful site in a beautiful part of the world.
The wife and I have not been to the lakes for 11 years and it was wonderful to take our 7 year old there. We also had never been to Ullswater and what a treat it was.
This site made life easy from start to finish. Originally made a booking, then had to change dates. There were never any problems or penalties in doing so.
After a swift and efficient check in we drove to the tent field to be met with spectacular views. The site is very big, but split into fields. Therefore there are areas for the statics and the caravans, but also a lot of mixing which creates a better atmosphere.
Our pitch was huge, far bigger than our tent merited, but we were glad as towards the back of the pitch it was a bit of a swamp! (Reception had warned us!). The EHU operates off a card and credit system whereby you get 10 kw per day. I challenge anyone to use this up!
There are 2 toilet blocks. I have to say that the one nearer reception is of a far higher standard. Not that the one in the tent field is rubbish but in relation to the cleanliness, room, water pressure and (according to the wife) shower temperature then this block is the better of the two.
The play area is great for the kids and there were never any problems as there is loads of space for them to play.
There is a bar and games room near reception which opens at 8pm to 11. This was a good option, even though it looks like it is stuck in 1978!
There is even a chippy that opens every night. However we never used it so can`t comment.
The lake is beautiful and can be seen from certain vantage points on the site. You can go to Pooley Bridge or Glenrridding in 10 minutes and just enjoy the area!
We also drove to Keswick and Ambleside and these were only about 25 minutes away.
When the sun shines there can be no finer place on earth!
If you are considering a trip to Ullswater then this is an ideal base and you should treat yourself!

Had a great time at this wonderful caravan park, in a lovely area close to the lake, and plenty of land for the kids to play,
The owners were very helpful, had a few problems with my car, but helped me find a garage( over bank holiday as well !)
Chippy on site could do with being open more often,
Overall we had a great time!
There was a clubhouse, only used it once, but seemed OK.
Wouldn't advise going for a walk unless your fit, as it sits on top of a very large hill !
