We had an average stay at Hollins farm recently. Very nice countryside and very quiet. Very close to Whitby also which makes this a perfect site to commute for a good day out. We stayed in the lower field, the smallest of the three. We turned up without booking and were able to pitch straight away.
The tents were close together however and space felt cramped. When tent owners returned late in the afternoon we found we were surrounded by around 8 noisy children all playing cricket and hitting the ball into our tent as there was no space to play. Not great when you're inside your tent with a migraine.
The nearby moors and the village of Rosedale were all very nice and felt really remote. It takes about 10 minutes to drive back to the nearest main road also so be prepared to spend time looking for the farm and when leaving getting on with your journey.
Overall a nice site, but let down by pretty poor toilets and shower facilities.

Peaceful campsite no trouble the lady in charge has lost her husband and is running the site the best she can with her daughter, the site is a none working farm but the fresh free range eggs are a must yummy.
There is a working dairy farm 3fields away and it is great watching the farm dog at its best,we will be back, facilities are workable but need updated we coped ok,
Get your food etc before you arrive as there is only a butchers and a pricey pub a good 2mile away overall satisfying. Children's play area poor and games room old and poor reception on tv.

Used this site as we wanted to spend a few days on the beaches nearby (Runswick bay and part of Sandsend as these are dog friendly) and exploring the moors, but didn't want to use a commercialised site.
Telephoned the farm to book in and informed the site owner we would be arriving quiet late, she was fine with this and kept an eye out for us, and told us to give her a call if we had difficulty finding the site(the good old Navman got us there fine though).
Upon arrival we where shown to our pitch which was on a slight slope, but it did have the bonus of its own fire pit which was wonderful(brought big bag of logs for £3 from the farm).
The lady that ran the site was very helpful and pleasant to chat to. The facilities are basic, but the beauty and charm of the site and surroundings makes up for it. The site was busy whilst we stayed there but we didn't have any trouble using the facilities or feel cramped in any way.
We brought our own food and drink from home, but forgot drinking water(there is none available on site and didn't see a shop nearby). There is a swing and a slide in front of the farm house for children to play on, but our son was too busy making his own fun to use it.
We will be retuning to this site, its a wonderful place and £9 a night for 2 adults, a child and a dog a bargain for the views you get from the farm.

The situation of this campsite is fantastic if you like remote areas.
There is a working farm immediately next door to the field that we stayed in and the milking machine was switched on at approx. 6.00am until 8.00am which did have a humming noise to it. I'm a country person so this did not bother me along with the noise of the sheep and the cows. I don't think anyone would say they were noisy.
There are only 2 toilets and 2 showers on the site and considering the amount of tents, it really could do with another toilet and shower. However, this site is not on mains water so they are limited with what they can provide. The water comes from a spring at the top of the valley.
There is a sink for washing up dishes which has plenty of very hot water. With there being only 1 sink this sometimes caused a queue but you are not allowed to take hot water away from the sink so washing pots at your tent is not an option.
Washing clothes is not permitted on site although there was a large washing line for damp towels etc.
I am tempted to revisit this site but my only hesitation is because of the shower facilities. If the owner invested in updating the 2 showers so that they weren't so temperamental, I would definitely return.

Just returned home from a really enjoyable trip to Hollins Farm. The area is beautiful and we were blessed with good weather. Beggars Bridge in the village is certainly worth a visit, as is the moors visitor centre in Danby.
The site, however, was not quite what I expected. The lady running the site didn't seem to know who was coming or going, all 3 fields were ridiculously overfilled, each holding around 12 tents rather than the expected 4/5. She's also rather tactless! Nice enough but did threaten to chase a fellow camper with a broom! However, was a really great, family friendly site. My 2 kids made friends straight away and I hardly saw them during the mornings/evenings. On the 2nd night of our stay there was a large group of 20-somethings drinking throughout the afternoon and carried on drinking and shouting etc until around 2am. They were asked to leave, in fact threatened with having their tents burned down when they refused! There was a swing and slide, both fairly old but in working order, no sign of the sandpit mentioned in another review. (Children MUST be supervised!)The toilets and showers etc were ok, basic, and fed from a spring from what I understand so not always working well.
There was a fair amount of noise throughout the night from sheep in a neighbouring field, and the cows being milked about 6am. All in all, good value, great location, just not quite what I expected having read the other reviews! Would recommend and will probably visit again, can't beat those views!

I loved this little site. It's not easy to find but worth the effort. The location is picturesque, set in rolling farmland right on the edge of the moors. We paid £8 for a campervan for the night which I thought was very reasonable for July. The pitches are a little close together but that was a small price to pay for the peace and quite of the area and the views. The toilet and shower were very basic but adequate. You can walk straight from the site, across the road onto the moors.

Overly view over the dale. The local pub is a mile and half away not a easy stroll but did get a lift there.
The local butchers does some very nice meat for a bbq the local shop stocks every thing that you forgot on the mad rush out of your house as you do.
Basic facilities, shower needs updating.
The kids play area a swing and a slide may have seen better days.
The pitches could have been better laid out, it got a little cramped, but still quiet

This was our first time camping in many years and the location and the site were both lovely. We stayed for 1 night and the lady owner made us very welcome. As other people have said, the facilities are very basic but this was reflected in the price. The only criticism we would have is that we could only find one toilet and one shower and we felt this was a little inadequate to cope with the number of pitches and people staying. The complimentary pick up service to and from the local pub/hotel is a huge advantage as the village is not really suitable for walking to and from, particularly after dark - be prepared to drive or bring your own food/drink. But that's one of the attractions of the location - being away from the hustle and bustle. The only noises we heard were from the local farm animals and that was lovely. We would definitely come back

We visited here after reading the reviews and stayed for four nights. The site itself is in a lovely setting
Saturday lunchtime a very large group of approx 20 people descended on the campsite and they had been drinking since early afternoon. They kept us up until 2.00am. We had mentioned the level of noise earlier on to the owner who told my husband (him being a male!) to go and speak to them! My husband complained the following morning and the owner told him that he should have spoken to the group at 2am however as the men had been drinking he told the owner that they could have retaliated but she insisted that it was his responsibility to ask them to be quiet! After further complaints from other camper the owner did ask the group to leave the site.
We expected a fairly small campsite as on the web it says it has 25 pitches. However, we counted 44 tents plus a tourer on her private lawn! The site itself has only two toilets and two showers

Enjoyed our stay, the facilities are very basic but clean (although be careful when showering, the shower is temperamental and can be so hot its dangerous). The elderly lady running the site is helpful and friendly.
Not much in the way of level pitches, some too steep to park your car. The only thing I would say, is that the fields are not very wide and we had large tents opposite us so there wasn't much in the way of privacy. Scenery was lovely.
