We are new to camping and this was only the third campsite we visited.

On the plus side…

1) The campsite was in a lovely location – miles from anywhere.

2) The campsite was very cheap.

3) The facilities were very basic. We often had to queue for the toilets and wash room but it was a bank holiday weekend and I guess that the facilities were normally sufficient. They were usually clean while we were there.

The play park was very basic (1 swing and 1 slide) but the lady running the site didn’t like any child using these unless they were monitored by an adult. The two 9 year old girls in our party avoided playing out whenever she was around.

Me and my son enjoyed this as it was is first time camping. The elderly couple on the campsite were great, even took our back packs to the station in Glaisdale as we were on our bikes

Would definitely go back to this site. They also sell eggs £1.00 for half dozen, but very fresh though. We are hoping to go back when the weather picks up

Headed up originally for three nights here first full week in April. Only ended up staying one night, due to the very wet ground and nothing else.

Facilities are basic but well looked after, the gent who owns the property with his wife is a very nice man and loves visitors.

Only advice I can give is make sure you are going when the ground will be dry, most of the pitching area was very wet and water was jumping over your boots, in summer this will be a very nice area.

At the top of the site, take a right and take the roughly 2mi walk into the village, take a fork right at the church and then a right at the bottom of the hill, go up to the Arncliffe Arms for some stunning food and local ale which is very well priced!

Really enjoyed our over night stay at this site. Was windy and cold but that was because we stayed in March - the owner gave us the pick of the camp as no-one else mad enough to camp in winter! Facilities are basic but just what you need when camping. Somewhere to wash, shower, watch TV (if you really wanted to), fridge and washing up facilities. Lovely owners, very hospitable. Long walk to local pub who serve different food (scampi very nice). Will definitely return in warmer weather.

Stayed on the 5th Sept, for one night with my partner, if you expect modern facilities don't stay here. The one toilet in our field has a glass surround, be careful at night with the light on, and only one shower worked. Health and safety would have a field day here I suspect-- we were the only tent in the field and it was great! it was quiet,we were in the middle of nowhere, it was proper camping -we loved it and will re visit.
If you want luxury don't bother, the couple both aged 74 are fantastic, the place is clean, long may it continue, unspoilt, unchanged since I don't know when. Brilliant.

Like so many other people we booked the site purely on the reviews that we had read.

Arrived early evening on a friday having arranged to meet with some friends at the site.

First impressions- perfect location, beautiful scenery, rolling moorland and purple heather as far as the eye can see.

However, when we first arrived Mrs Mortimer showed us to a pitch that with hindsight was a little too small for our tent. To cut a long story short we asked Mrs Mortimer if we could move to a different field.

After this our stay was idyllic. Facilities basic but this added to the charm of the site.

What I would advise is that when booking ask to reserve a pitch in the field with the shelter as we felt this was nicest location.

Mr and Mrs Mortimer appear to run a tight ship and do regular 'patrols' of the camp site and present as a very interesting couple.

Would definitely return to this site even though the facilities are slightly eccentric.

Would recommend the Horse Shoe Hotel at Egton Bridge and The Board Inn at Lealholme for meals.

We spent one night here for £8 (2 people, 1 small tent, 1 car).

We were supposed to spend two but had a disturbed night on the first night (just one culprit, too close to us, two families with bbq / campfire up till 1.30 am chatting, but not dealt with) so we moved on. Just bad luck I think and probably not typical on this site.

You get what you pay for here. Facilities very basic/old but very clean.

Lovely setting.

After reading the reviews thought we would give it a try. Very basic facilities two showers but only one seemed to work properly, two toilets but kept lovely and clean by the owners who seemed to be on the go all the time.
Slightly sloping field well hard to get anything level but this all added to the camping experience, usually ended up sliding down the air beds by the morning. Camp fires available to use in three pitches and as it turned chilly at night all the pitches seemed to have fires going.
My daughter loved the site and made lots of friends, very safe for her to go off and play, and she spent a lot of time in the games room, although there were really no games to play, but an old tv. Lovely old fashioned site run by an old couple who were always busy.
Would def visit again, but now know which pitches to go for. Pitch 7 is maybe the best and you have a camp fire with this one. Generally couples and families a strict no noise policy after 10pm, whilst we were there one group was asked to leave as they had been very noisy until 1.30am, Mrs Mortimer was not happy at all, and was very apologetic to all the campers.
It was hard to find but after driving down several country lanes eventually came across the farm. Had a lovely five days it was like going back in time, def worth a visit, the views were lovely. If you don't mind basic facilities then this is an ideal base for visiting many places near by.

We stayed at this site for just 1 night to test our new tent out - having previously only camped at Haven sites we wanted to go somewhere quiet! Having read the reviews we went expecting the basics, but were pleasantly surprised. I travelled with my husband and 2 young children - aged 3 and 6.

We'll definitely return for a longer stay.

It's a really lovely site, and the owners were friendly and helpful.

The surroundings and views are beautiful. Sheep and cows in the next fields - it was lovely.

There's a drop off/pick up service to the local pub (although we didn't use it).I think there's about 4 campfire pitches now - these look great.

When we got there there were just a few pitches left, and it was full later on. There were 3 separate toilets (one in a shed - but inside it was like a normal room - very clean) and despite being busy, we only had to wait once, so think this is sufficient for the site. There's an old barn/room with TV and fridge and some very old toys and comfy chairs in - but I suppose it's ok for if it pours down to get a bit dry! There isn't a playground as such, but an old garden swing and slide, children must be supervised here and the owners made this clear. There's a washing up room with hot water and I think 2 or 3 showers (30p)

Some pitches slope a bit - but not too much. My kids loved rolling down the little hill in the first field - great fun!

A great spot to explore the surrounding areas, or just a quiet time. We're looking forward to going back for a longer stay.

This is a quaint site with all facilities for a basic camp. The shower was 30p, the farm outhouses are used for washing facilities and a tv room with fridge. There are several separate well maintained wcs. There was a noise problem on the first night that was wonderfully dealt with at 2am by the owner who apologised the next day and assured us that the offenders had been removed and the remaining boys' parents had been informed! we went to Eden camp at malton which took us through the vales, a lovely windy drive. Whitby was the next excursion and saltwick bay for fossils. Beckhole pub on the way back was well worth a visit, a tiny pub with real ale. Goatland had basic expensive groceries, value orange juice £1.25 litre, and lots of heartbeat tat. This site is run by a lovely couple and suitable for families and couples alike.
