New to camping, this site exceeded our expectations on our first two night stay here. The site is in a gorgeous location, it is immaculately clean with beautifully kept grounds and pitches. The free-roaming chickens are a bonus and kept us and children amused during our stay!
Travelling as family of four (two adults, two children aged 4 and 5) we arrived early evening and were shown to our pitch. As noted by other reviews the site is spotless from the shower and toilet block to the children's park and the beautiful flowers lining the road leading up to the site.
After pitching up (take some heavy duty pegs and heavy mallet as both ourselves and our neighbours ended up with bent pegs!), we took a short walk across the field to Silverdale Caravan Park (takes about 10 mins with children in tow) with all its amenities. Lots of wildlife to be seen while walking across i. E. Rabbits and hedgehogs. We had a meal and drinks in the restaurant, and although there was a 30 minute wait (lots of people arriving at the same time), the food was lovely. Our children played happily in the indoor soft play area just across from the main restaurant/bar area. We noticed that there is also a small games room, shop, pool etc. On site.
Unfortunately, it was raining the next day so we made the most of the pool at the caravan park which was great. You will need 50p for the lockers in there. Lots of spare armbands etc. To borrow if you forget yours like we did.
Back to the camp site - the pitches are laid out around the edges of the field and the children played in the middle. Water tap right next to our pitch. You can buy fresh eggs at reception as well as cans of pop and ice lollies. There is a pot wash room, TV/games room and showers/toilet block which are very close to all the pitches really. There are shower rooms with sink and toilet which were great so myself and the children could all go for a shower at the same time. We never had to wait to use the showers/toilets despite the site being almost full. As I said, the toilet/shower block is cleaned regularly and as such it is absolutely spotless. Our two girls made friends straight away and spent hours playing with their new friends. They were sad to leave on the last day, as were we, particularly as the sun decided to come out!
We enjoyed our trip so much that we booked to visit again in a few weeks' time! Can't wait to return. What a fab start to camping - thank you!

Lovely location in Glaisdale, very pleasant drive through Rosedale & over the moors to get there.
Small site with basic facilities, but there was very hot water for washing up, & the two toilet/sink 'shacks' were clean.
Near to Whitby & Sandsend for 'seaside' days. Very nice walk from site to village of Glaisdale, & then on to Egton Bridge, & over the stepping stones.
Loaned firepit/BBQ for £10 refundable deposit.
Site was quiet & peaceful until large family arrived, about 20 people who shouted instead of talked!
At £11. 50 per night for 2 adults & 1 child, we'd return. However, owner has now left & not sure if new owners will continue with campsite.

The first night the owner told us we could take hot water to our tent, but the next morning when I went with my bucket, she said where do you think you are going with that. She told us their was no point to empty our toilet, so I would have to put it down the toilet, and if I blocked it I would go down their after it, and why cant we use the site toilets like everyone else, we have a 4 year old who was up and down.
The shower was 40 pence each, the water scalding hot with not any cold water going to the shower, so you couldn't use the shower, but you had to pay first.
The field was unlevel so our 3 way fridge didn't work on gas and we had to throw food away Note: it's not difficult to level a fridge using stones / sticks / wood etc
The farm next door woke us up, stacking grass at 02. 30 am and a milking bulk tank that makes a lot of noise.

This is a lovely site if you want to get away from it all! The facilities are extremely basic (and I mean basic!) but the views are spectacular!
The night we stayed there were gale force winds but they didn't detract from the beauty of the surroundings.
A good base to explore the area and coast but no shops/pubs etc within walking distance.
Unfortunately there was no hot water to wash up in the kitchen facilities, but as we were only there for 1 night we made do.
The site had a for sale sign up so this could explain the slightly run down feel to the facilities but they were clean.

What a fantastic 3 days we have just spent at Hollins farm, Weather fantastic, although very cold at night.
Thanks to the advice of our host we were prepared. Amenities were basic but adequate and very clean and well kept. (what more do people expect for the price).
I camped as a girl guide, camped with my family whilst growing up and swore I would never rough it again, only foreign holidays and en suite / hotels for me.
However like most people we are having to cut our cloth accordingly and holidays abroad are not an affordable option in the current economic climate.
Thank god because this holiday reminded me of what it is like to walk in the countryside, breath fresh air (close to Whitby), prepare a picnic (to sit at beggers bridge), communicate with my daughter again, pick up a book and not worry about the time (without the phone ringing, mobile phones beeping, work ringing, or the urge to pick up the laptop to google or facebook or turn on the TV).
Thankyou to Hollins farm we are preparing for our next camping trip (we hope to convert our nextdoor neighbour to come with us also next time). We will be returning to Hollins farm in the summer, hopefully they wont be fully booked. Thanks great British weather for a tan worthy of a week spend in Spain or France.

Depending on how you look at life will depend on your view of thus campsite is your glass half full it half empty.
The scenery is stunning, and the write up is not wrong, there is a playroom, it has a dilapidated table top football game in it a few rickety chairs, some threadbare carpet and that's about it.
There are toilets that have seen better days and showers that are the same but I thought 40p a go was expensive for what there were, as I was only there for two nights I boiled my own water and had a strip wash, if they were decent showers I would gladly gave paid.
Not having satnav the sight was a nightmare to find, its actually in glaisdale sale but once I found it it was a brilliant drive-if you like winding country roads at a 33% gradient.
The water for pot washing was red hot which is always a good thing.
I would also echo other visitors comments about the owner, she was nice and took care of what she owned.
It has bags of potential, there was a for sale sign outside so if anyone's interested.
After reading the last couple of reviews I was really looking forward to camping here but I have to say I was slightly disappointed, but after saying that I would probably go back with a few mates as it is cheap, maybe if the weather is better behaved.

This site is well worth a visit. It's well off the beaten track, a small site with very basic facilities that aren't of this century but are clean and working.
Very hot water and as much as you need for a shower - which you have to pay extra at a small cost.
The surrounding area is fantastic with scenic views, peaceful and quiet.
If it's mod cons and wanting to be entertained then this is not the site for you.
The lady of the site is helpful and willing to help out when needed, will definitely be going back.

Well what can I say we decided to get the bus up to Whitby from Leeds bus station as it was a cheap option, but if you don't like sitting down for so long it is not the best option as it is a four hour journey. When we finally got to Whitby we were directed to what bus we needed to get to get us to the camp sit,e and that was just a little mini bus but the driver was a lovely lady. When she got us to the road leading up to the camp site she told us it was just a little walk, in the end felt like ages.
We finally got to the camp site after stopping and starting many times, and the lady of the site greeted us showed us where to go explained which toilet and shower to use and I must say they where spot on so clean and fresh. Then while we were setting up she even brought us a hot drink, now you can not complain at that. She has been the best host I have had of a campsite and I would certainly recommend people to stop there.
The surrounding area was a picture, lovely to walk around and sit and stare. Both me and my partner went for a nice long walk, we did not no where we were going, but it was nice and then stopped at a shop, only small but covers you for everything you may need.
Sadly we only stopped the night as we had to leave due to grandparent having a heart attack. But I would love to go back and visit again.

Had a couple of nights here
The drive down the narrow steep roads was good fun and the scenery was breathtaking going over the moors
It was basic and for what they had you could not fault
If you need supplies get there before six that's when they close or travel to Whitby
This site is ideal to just relax and chill out all day
The sheep and cows didn't bother us as I lived in the country
Good for walkers if you like hills
The butchers shop is worth a visit so take a small bbq to cook on but raise off the ground
Weather varies so be prepared for a change
