A lovely peaceful site run by a delightful couple. Camping as it used to be. If your looking for the most up-to-date facilities and entertainment then forget it. If your looking to spend quiet blissful evening with all sorts of wildlife around you the this is the place for you.
A good base for walking the surrounding countryside. An excellent local butchers to provide the meat for the barbeque. Only one pub now in the village although the OS map shows 2, but they will provide free transport from the campsite to the pub for an evening meal and back again.
Quite a sloping site in places but it didn't seem to bother our party of 7 tents. Facilities are basic but constantly kept clean and are more than adequate. Even when all three fields seemed to be nearly full we didn't seem to be waiting to use them. They will open a third facility in the house should it become necessary we were told.
All our party agreed we'd visit again. Hard to beat the price these days. Enjoy!

We stayed at Hollins Farm for two nights.
As being part of a large group of students (9 of us), I believe that the owners were sceptical, however we proved them wrong, and abided by the rules of the site.
The amenities were basic, and not to the perfect of standards (maintenance wise). However, they were all clean, and that is the whole experience of camping I suppose.
The view of the North York valleys are breathtaking, and this site is a must if you like the wildlife, and scenery.
The park (if you can call it a park) could be improved, but we are 17 and 18, we didnt really need the park haha!
We had site 2 and 3. The families opposite us were extremely friendly and helpful.
A suggestion would be to possibly add a new toilet and shower block.
I had the shower made of a wardrobe, and it was on the small side, maybe a changing area wouldnt go a miss. However the owners are ageing (gracefully) haha, so you cant really expect too much. We didnt, which is probably why we enjoyed it.
The 'restroom' also looked daunting, we couldnt really settle in there.
All in all, we had a very good time, and would probably go again, due to the cheap price of this site.
(Like sheep? Youll love this site!)

A nice little site all things considered; but if the location and views werent so sublime the site wouldnt have so much appeal.
But that said charm it has, the slightly batty owners certainly make the most of what they have; the shower partitions being made out of an old wardrobe, and the other toilet block is a garden shed! its grubby to be truthful, esp the kids playroom, and the smell in there is redolent of a dead person. The kids toys in the old rat poison box hardly endears one to aspects of health and safety!
But would return, not however on a band holiday.
The local pub is the arncliffe arms, the food is good and the beer is ok-ish, whitby is around 9 miles away and the area is great for walking and biking.

Location is outstanding and you dont have to travel far to have plently to do, wether be walking, seaside etc. Camp site is not so basic, we stayed bank holiday weekend never had a problem with waiting to long for shower, wash up etc. Owners are very friendly and site is so clean. Dated maybe but thats the fun of it and with out that it wouldn't feel the same. A must to visit if in the area,if you want big, fancy and loud kept away its not for you. A gem of a site, stayed about 3 years ago and still as good as ever. The barn is great for the kids, and the back packers loved the arm chairs ! We will be back time and time again.

Saw this site on the website and decided it was for us as it was tents only. Only supposed to be me and hubby going but ended up 6 adults and 7 kids.(two adults who hate camping with a capital H but are now reformed thanx to Hollins Mrs n Mrs Mortimer (couple now in their 70's but fitter than you or I and always on the lookout to please.) Mrs M carried an outside picnic bench single handed, these are true farm ppl. You either love or hate camping and if you dont like ruffing it then you shouldn't camp (stick to your B&B's or hotels). This is your no frills campsite for true campers and basic but very quirky and the owners will go out of their way to please. 3 sites for campfires but book early for this privilage or ask for the spot near the old hay barn for comfort, we commissioned this on our visit over 4 nights and we cant wait to go back, if you like a lie in then go to bed early cos the nearby farm will wake you at 6.30 with milking time but part of the regime. Hardy campers but our best site yet, will definitely be back to pester Mr& Mrs M with even more of the family. 2 showers and 2 toilets between the 3 fields but never a queue just a steady flow (showers cost 30p and endless hot water). Ferry to local pub and back so long as you had a meal, not much choice and expensive if you have a lot of kids but friendly folk. Book today and enjoy your stay.

What makes a campsite to a good place to be? We crossed the moors by bike and came down to this campsite just before a big shower started. Never liked it so much to sit under the big iron shelter in the middle of the field and wait dry before putting your tent up! This is not the place for up-to-date sanitair-standards. But it is the place to be after a long day of walking or cycling. I hope the owners are able to keep up the site as long as they are able to.

We chose this campsite after reading reviews on here and thought I'd just add a more honest, or at least detailed, review so others can be more informed than we were. Yes the owners are friendly and helpful, yes the scenery is beautiful, yes the facilities are basic - but how basic is basic? Two toilets and two showers to serve 3 fields?? That's a little more basic than I like. There were well over a dozen families/couples pitched up all queueing night and morning for the very limited facilities. The play area consists of one slide and one swing circa 1970, the recreation room houses two armchairs and an old telly surrounding by odd broken toys - and a fishing net and bucket and spade now courtesy of my children! Yes, the campsite is lovely but not if you like just a modicum of luxury - like hot and cold running water in the toilet!

We decided to stay here through reviews on here, the site is friendly and well kept. Although I thought the swing and slide looked well used, clean toilets, the site was overall a nice place in the middle of no-where. Campfires are allowed but must book in advance to make sure you get a spot. Logs Available on site when we was there, but its worth taking your own just in-case. Great for little un's to run around, We avoided bank holiday traffic by going through the moors as with site fantastic views and scenery. Overall 8/10

I just wanted to get away from work and a big city for a few days, and Hollins Farm turned out to be a perfect choice. So quiet and restful, with an incredible selection of walks on the doorstep. If you push your way through the heather directly opposite the main entrance you at the start of a great walk over Glaisedale moor, but take an OS Map to make sure you get back. The owners are very friendly, helpful gentlefolk, so if you are in a convoy of tents or vans and looking for a party, this is NOT the place to go, as you will irritate the people who are enjoying it for its beauty and tranquility. As the owners aren't youngsters anymore, they are thinking of closing the campfire sites, as its hard to maintain three fields. If anybody has any ideas as to how to prevent this loss without increasing the owners work, then it may be worth writing to them. I wouldn't mind paying a bit more to cover the cost of somebody else doing the maintenance. Its a beautiful place!
