Booked this campsite for the weekend as it was the only site I contacted that would allow a 1 night stay (my sis and hubby joined us for one whilst we stayed 2). It wouldn't have been our first choice as we have a 3yr old and prefer to look for sites with a playground, but nevertheless we gave it a try as the reviews seemed good.
Pros:
- Nice location, close to Bakewell and some lovely walks.
- Site had plenty of space to pitch up as there weren't many there. Fairly quiet apart from a little noise from the roads nearby.
- Owners were friendly.
- There's a freezer for re-freezing your freezer blocks.
Cons:
- The ground was very stoney, which we didn't see when we went to pitch as the grass was quite long. It was quite uncomfortable walking barefoot in our tent and getting stabbed with sharp stones. There was also big clumps of muddy grass (presumably from previous cuts) that got EVERYWHERE. It stuck to shoes/boots and covered the showers, toilets and tent if you're not careful. Definitely not a place you can walk outside barefoot.
- The charge for ALL hot water was excessive I thought - 20p per minute for shower AND washing up water (which I've never seen charged for). The meter starts as soon as you enter your money (which they do warn you about) so it continues to charge regardless of whether or not the hot water is running, which would be fine but the showers were push button and so you had to keep pressing it every 15 seconds. I'd have expected a better shower that you could keep switched on if I was being charged extra for it.
- All children under 12 are charged £3. 50 per night. I've never had to pay for our toddler at other sites and I don't have an issue paying for children as they use the facilities. However there was nothing at all there for children and my 3yr old was unable to use the shower as they were scalding hot, so she had to do without for the whole weekend.
It's a very basic campsite and we came knowing this, but I just don't feel it was worth the money. I can't help but compare it to other fantastic sites we've been to with better facilities that don't charge all these extras. (e. G. We pay only £1 extra per adult and no charge for children at nearby Barn Farm campsite and the facilities are excellent; an abundance of clean, free hot showers, children's playgroud, excellent well cared for fields etc).
I wouldn't return unless they either improved their facilities to justify the additional charges, or simply got rid of the meters.

Our first visit to this site, campers have access to two large
Fields with facilities located between the two. There is a D of E field located by the entrance, which had about 10 tents in it (no hassle or noise heard) As Pink Floyd once said 'leave those kids alone'
The facilities are okay plenty of hot water at 20p per unit, the showers are okay (80p gets you a decent shower). The field was well maintained, the grass was fairly short and was being cut again as we left.
Its a good site, only £10 for a tent with 2 people.
Will go again, next time we'll have to take the inner tent it helps.

Can get very busy with large groups especially school and DoE which can make the site a bit noisy, but the facilities are adequate for a short break away in stunning countryside. Further work could be put into the designated hook up area as the three leads are fed from power inside a farm building. Perhaps a little bit more information and control off site users and dogs would be appreciated

We stayed here for one night with our daughter, who was camping for the first time. There are two large fields and a fairly rough and ready (but clean) toilet and shower block, along with a washing up area.
There is plenty of space to pitch and lots of room for kids to run around. One field is more sheltered but on a gentle slope, the other is pretty flat, but more exposed. We stayed in the flatter field, against the hedge for shelter and the field was well drained and easy to pitch. There are no defined pitches, which is nice if camping with friends and provided that others maintain a good distance. The fields were not too full, even on a Saturday night in August.
There are a couple of fields for DofE groups, which is great as so many campsites have rules prohibiting groups of young people. In fact, however, the noise in the field we were in came from a family with teenage children who were still having some sort of rave at 1am. The rules don't seem to be enforced, although no one probably complained (including us).
Overall, it is a nice, basic campsite in one of the finest areas of the White Peak. We'll be going back at some point - if only to see how the swallows in the washing up room got on.

We booked 3 nights here, but unfortunately had to leave early as I was ill. The 2 nights we were on site were rather spoiled by a LARGE group of (mostly) men in the middle field who talked in normal voices and even sang camp fire songs until 2 in the morning. The 'No noise after 11pm' rule was clearly not enforced!
Apart from that, this is a lovely site with good rural views and reasonable shelter from high hedges. We were amazed to see the 'Site Full' sign up when the top field had plenty of space left in it, so it never got terribly overcrowded.
There were plenty of toilets and showers, although my daughter found that 20p only gave her a minute in the shower so she had to rinse off in a tiny cold-water-only sink! The showers take £1 coins, so this may be a better option. Hot water for washing up was also 20p, but we used our kettle and took the hot water down to the washing up place. At least at £5pppn you are not paying for other people to waste free hot water!
The site is on a quiet road and there are walks, from the site, along Lathkill Dale. The Lathkill Hotel is about 1 mile away in Over Haddon and is a lovely walk, either along the dale or via the road. We had a very pleasant evening meal there in the garden, under a large gazebo. The Hotel is a bit unfriendly towards walkers; insisting ALL boots are removed (ours were not at all muddy!) and brusque notices about where not to leave boots. They don't start taking orders for evening meals until 6. 30pm and it is advisable to book.
Bakewell is not very far away (about 3 miles?) and has lots of shops and supermarkets and is a lovely place to visit.
We will return to this site, and hopefully I'll be able to see more of the area (and not have to go home early, with a bucket on my lap again!)

Stayed here for 2 nights at the start of May Bank Holiday and we were the only people in our field! The campsite has three fields; one is for DofE only with all its own facilities, so don't let this put you off. The top field has a few hook ups off the farm building, but we didn't use these. Toilet blocks were clean and tidy, hot water in the wash basins would be nice but not essential. Showers are 20p/min and are a nice temperature, but did take about 30 seconds to warm up (I'm blaming this on the ambient temperature outside; we had frost!). Hot water for dishwashing is also 20p, but don't forget this campsite is only £5pppn. No playground, but the three fields are large so plenty of room for outdoor games. The nearest place is Over Haddon - a tiny village but it does have a pub - about 30mins walk. We didn't eat here but the food looked good and it has great views.

My son 11 and I stayed here for a night earlier this year taking our small tent.
Most schools had gone back I think so the site was quiet- we had the company only of the D of E teenagers in the upper field who did not disrupt us at all.
Upon arrival we received a friendly welcome, things explained to us by the lady owner and we were told where to go. The owners lived on site in the farmhouse so were there if needed. From what I remember it was around a tenner which is pretty good.
Facilities were adequate; there were two toilet blocks and the lady seemed to open the one nearest to us especially! This was well lit at night although a torch was handy for the dark field.
We didn't use the washing up facilities but saw others doing so and they looked to be very adequate.
Only criticism(s) of the site was the field was fairly vast and a little exposed to wind perhaps, and slightly sloping pretty much wherever you pitched. We were at the top of the field where the pitch wasn't quite so bad.
There was also an upper field which was being used by the D of E youths but it appeared to be slightly sloping also.
We found when we arrived and unpacked the tent that we had forgotten the tent poles!- almost disaster as my son had been looking forward to going. However the Coop in Bakewell came to the rescue where we bought a(n even smaller!. ) pop up tent but it saved the day and we managed!
It gave us chance to explore Bakewell which is about a ten minute drive and a lovely and thriving little town. Quaint little pudding and pastry shops galore and a river running through the town centre heaving with fish the size you've never seen!
We had a delightful evening walk through Lathkill Dale which we will remember fondly. Peace, quiet, lovely sunny still evening. Footpath entrance we stumbled across just minutes from the campsite entrance, which then took us down to the river. Gorgeous.
The site was peaceful throughout. Quiet with no road noise at night. No playground or pub within easy walkable distance but if you just want to get away from it all and enjoy nature then I'd definitely recommend it here.

Spent two nights at Mandale. Our first visit to the camp site. We were really impressed, fantastic facilities for the money, very clean and tidy showers and toilet block. Has a large area for doing washing up and has a freezer for putting freezer blocks. Lovely large fields, quite flat. Despite the inclement weather, we still had a lovely peaceful time. We would definitely recommend and go again.

Have just come back from a weekend camping at mandale, we booked last minute to visit chatsworth country fair. What a lovely campsite. Could not fault it. Yes it's a little way out but that's what we loved about it! Lovely welcoming helpful and friendly owners, and the place was really clean, showers were hot, toilets were very clean. Although you are pretty high up the fields are really sheltered by big walls and trees so we didn't feel at all exposed to the elements, the views are also lovely. Will definitely stay here again. And to top it off it was a bargain, £5 each per night! Thank you for a great stay xx

Just come back from mandale farm (august bank holiday). Had a great time. Me and my hubby have stayed in a few camp sites but I would say this is best one on all we have ever stayed in. The owners are very helpful and polite nothing is too much trouble for them. Clean toilets and showers they get a five star from me and I am a funny sod with cleanness. Best pitches for tent is the top field slopes a little but you can manage. We will be going back next year for deff
