Stayed one night, owners friendly, booked by email and told to arrive whatever time we liked, directed to top field on arrival, told to pitch anywhere we wanted to, had lovely views across the valley, very quiet site which is just what we wanted.
The toilets were clean and plenty of loo rolls provided, bins for recycling where also provided.
On the day of our departure the owner said there was no hurry for us to leave the site so we had almost a full day to go walking and relax.
We would definitely go back again in fact we really didn't want to come home.

April 2011 was our first visit to this campsite, and being Easter bank holiday weekend we were unsure of camping availability in Derbyshire. We just turned up and were pleased to find plenty of space free to pitch our tent. The owner of the site met us on arrival and directed us to the camping fields.
The field behind the house is on quite a slope, but is flat near the top close to the toilet block. It is surrounded by trees to afford some protection from the elements should it be windy. There is another, flatter field higher up which was much larger with plenty of tents making the most of the flat ground.
The toilet block was basic but very clean, with no cob webs, and remained clean throughout our 2 day stay.
The showers were coin operated (20p) and gave plenty of hot water, at a decent pressure. There was an indoor washing-up point that was clean and tidy.
A good facility is the freezer, handy for cooler bag blocks! Our neighbouring tent occupants thought it was a fridge and put their bottles of beer in.Bud slush anyone?
Locally, the gorgeous Lathkill Dale is but a 10min walk away, as is the pretty village of Over Haddon. Monyash is a 5min drive and I can reccomend the Bulls Head pub for both food and good ales. At the rear of the pub is the village play area, perfect for the children and adults alike. I didn't see a play area on the campsite, so bear this in mind.
There are also the Reckoning House camping barn and Pine Lodge for hire which looked fab.
Camping charges are £4.75 pppn which is a little cheaper than most in the area.
All in, it's a great basic campsite with all you need for your stay. No shop on site, so take all you need with you. Nearest shops are in Bakewell, 10min drive away.
We will certainly return here and will add this site to our virtual brochure.

I have visited Mandale house for a couple of years now.
On your first visit it can be tricky to find the turning from the main road. As you head up the drive way you will come across the farm house.
On every occasion we are welcomed by the owner/staff. There are 3 fields to choose from, the 3rd one, (through the gate)is slightly slanted so can be tricky to get level ground, but the views by far make this the better location, they are truly breath taking.
The site itself is very clean, the toilet & shower facilities are brilliant and plenty of them too!
On occasions they do have D of E groups in, but they are absolutely no trouble, and not noisy!
What makes Mandale House so special, is the space! every time we have been we see families joining together for a game of rounders ( I have joined in too on occasions!) and all retire to the tents, where the evening draws in and its all very respectable and peaceful.
The surroundings and very approachable staff makes this my favourite place to visit by far, its excellent value for money.

Nice relaxed atmosphere and easy going campsite, stayed one night. Showers and hot water is 20p (or £1). Booking was a simple call and 'That's fine', good hosts as no number or deposit required and when we arrived we could pitch where we wanted.
Three fields, bottom one is for Duke of Edinburgh only, middle field is sloping and quieter, top field is largest, flattish with great views.
Recommended, just our sort of approach and very easy going. Quiet too. Just £9 for two.
Sheep weren't that loud? Don't know what the other reviewer was on about.

Just returned from this site where we spent a great 3 nights. Two fields, one flatter than the other so loads of room for everyone. Lots of toilets and two showers each which require 20p per minute to use them.
Does have a freezer in the washing up room which is great, however you will also need 20p for hot water to wash your crocks as well. Buy your eggs from this site as they are so fresh and taste great. We would definitely go back.

Stayed here for 2 nights, Sun to Tuesday in the term time, so can't comment on the site in school hols!
On arrival we had a professional and polite reception from the lady owner. I had rang the night before so she was expecting us.
The site has 3 fields. The bottom field is for D of E only. The middle field appears to be for anyone. The top field seemed to be for 'ordinary' campers.
When we arrived it was quite blustery so we pitched in the corner of the middle field behind the windbreak trees. There was only 1 other tent pitched. I was very happy with the site until we emerged the next morning after a night of rain to find approx 25 tents, and 40, 13 year olds pitched in a semi circle around us. I felt imprisoned by school kids! As I had gone camping in the term time to avoid kids this was less than ideal. I spoke to the teacher who confirmed my worst suspicions, Yes, they were excited, No, he didn't think they would sleep much that night! Gutted.
So we made the decision to relocate the tent in the pouring rain to the top field. This was pretty flat and spacious as there were only 4 tents here, 1 in each corner of the field. We had a relaxing rest of our stay and when we heard the kids still screeching and screaming in the distance at 10.30 at night we were glad we had moved.
So, if you stay at this site in term time be aware that school parties use this site!
The facilities were plentiful, mainly in portable cabins, but clean and always had toilet paper. I counted 4 toilets and sinks for the ladies in 1 portacabin in the middle field, and 3 toilets and sinks for the ladies between the middle field and top field. There was also a shower room which I think had 5 showers(£1) and a large indoor dish wash room with 3 huge sinks, bowls and hot water 20p. There was an old freezer we didn't use. There is however no hotwater to the washroom sinks as the D of E ers kept wasting it according to the owner.
Overall, if you don't get overrun by a school party pitching in front of your tent, this is an excellent basic site. Charge was £4.50 a night for adult and £2.50 for a child - bargain.

We booked here after discovering the Camping and Caravanning Club's site at Hayfield was full. Very easy to book - they didn't even ask for a phone number, or the names of the two other parties I was booking for!
Site has a lovely situation - beautiful views all around. Quite exposed so can be very windy - make sure your guy ropes are pegged in properly!
Was a little worried at there only being two showers, given the number of people on the site, but only had to wait once (and the advantage of having the timers on the box that you put your money in is that you know how long you'll have to wait!). Showers and toilets reasonably clean but not up to the CC Club standards I'm used to; a little disappointing, seeing that Hayfield would only have been about 30p a night more expensive once you take into account the £1 for the showers every day.
Unfortunately some members of our party were kept awake by a group (adults) who were making noise past 1am; I don't think they were being deliberately loud, but people should remember that noise travels a long way on a campsite! Because of this one of our party had to leave early due to only 1hr sleep (once the people went to bed the sheep in the next field - the loudest I have ever heard! - started up) which was a shame.
All in all, a reasonable site for the money with lovely views. I'll still try Hayfield first next time due to the spotless facilities, flat fields, opportunity to buy milk, and no noise after 11pm rule! This would be my second choice again, however.

A small group of us stayed at this site for 2 nights over a walking weekend 4th-6th June, with Wolverhampton Ramblers.
There were 2 large fields, plenty of toilets, adequate showers, pot wash area - all of which were clean & well maintained - & refuse points, a bargain at £4.50 pppn.
It was in a nice spot but there was no walk into Bakewell other than the main road with no pavement, so transport is essential & a designated driver if your having a beer, as a taxi was £9 one way.
It is a great area to walk in & really enjoyed our 3 days, fish & chips by the river in Bakewell, the weather & a visit to Haddon Hall.Lovely.

We stayed here on the last weekend of half term with a family group. The site was full but there was still plenty of space for the children to play.
There are only two showers per gender but if you get up early there is no problem and the owners were up at 6am cleaning them.
This is a beautiful site and very good value for money.
We were told that fire pits were not allowed but we noticed that one group had one and they also stayed up past 1am and kept a few campers awake which was a shame.
There is now a pot washing room under cover but you have to pay 20p a minute for hot water.
This site seems to cater for the smaller camper. The sinks in the post washing room are back breaking if you are over 5 feet 6 and the shower heads were below my shoulder height and I am only 5 feet 9!
We will definitely come again to this site in a lovely part of the world.

Thought this campsite was fantastic value. It was 4.50 per night for small tent. Showers were 20p per minute, but it was a continuous stream of water and you could put more money in. Views were fantastic. Terrific. Location for walking and local village pub was also good. About mile and half to Lathkill Hotel, either by road or along the Lathkill Dale walk. Good Hotel, dog friendly and real ale.
