We returned to this site having enjoyed a weekend here last year. We found it to be just as lovely and not overcrowded for a Bank Holiday weekend. However, if you do come at weekends you need to be prepared for D of E groups who weren't a noise problem at all in this case but put an extra burden on the already short supply of showers/washing up facilities. We felt that although we love the views and relaxed atmosphere, the site could benefit from having the facilities upgraded to match its popularity and the numbers it attracts.

A good campsite close to Dovedale ,Manifold valley etc.Gets a little muddy after heavy rainfall and we struggled to get on and off site so be prepared.I suppose the moral of that story is if it's going to rain don't go camping.Staff are friendly and helpful and I would definitely stay there again.

Stayed here briefly last year. The site is in a lovely location and you can pitch where you want. We were ceratinly made to feel welcome. It is very basic and if you like old fashioned camping that is certainly what you get here! The toilets weren't too clean and the outside washing up sink only had cold water. Our stay wasn't helped by the dreadful weather, wet and windy for 2 days solid!

This was our third visit of the year to this wonderful campsite and, once again, we were not disappointed. The upper field has plenty of level pitches and is in a great location a little to the north of Lathkill Dale with fantastic views and often glorious sun / moon rises / sets. It can get pretty windy at times, but there is always the lower field if this is a problem. Facilities are fairly basic but more than adequate - certainly for our needs - and the welcome is always friendly. The site can get quite busy, especially at weekends, but is never overcrowded and the guests have generally been considerate with regards to noise and loathsome barbecue smells! In midweek the place has always been wonderfully quiet if, like us, you avoid the school holidays. The only drawback is that it is quite a walk to the nearest pubs - Over Haddon or Monyash - especially when you've been abusing your poor feet on the trails all day! We had hoped to go for the first visit of 2007 towards the end of April, but have been warned by Julia that lambing may not be finished - it is a working farm - so we need to check again a couple of days prior to departure. Fingers crossed that the sheep have completed their task!

This site was recommended to us and I would certainly recommend it to anyone! We spent a lovely weekend doing very little on this family-run campsite. On arrival the atmosphere was what a campsite should be - everyone out of their tents cooking food and playing cricket/football in the middle of the site. There were many families with small children but also small groups of young people all getting along well. The site has 2 fields available for campers and we stayed on the (reportedly windy) top field which was much busier than the other (which is on a bit of a slope). There are no designated pitches and you can take up as much (or as little) space as you like. Most stayed on the edges of the field however one brave lot plonked themselves right in the middle - in the path of flying footballs! The facilities here were basic but very clean (cleaned daily and loo-roll replaced regularly). Loos / showers were separated (male / female) and whilst the showers were a bit of a dribble, the water remained at a consistently warm temperature. Additional (temporary) loos were provided (presumably due to summer season) and I didn't have to queue once. The washing up area has no hot water but it's no trouble to boil the kettle and do it the old fashioned way! We were definitely spoilt here and will struggle to find such a nice site for as little money (£3 per person per night) elsewhere. Will definitely return.

Great farmers-field site in beautiful isolated Peak District location. Farmer and wife very relaxed - no 'rules' signs. Almost unique feature of take-away campers breakfasts - wonderful fresh egg, bacon, sausage roll fresh from kitchen. If only all campsites had this.
Top field is a bit windy when it gets up. Lower field undulates but is properly sheltered. Isolated location and lack of artificial light gives excellent star and moon views on clear nights. £3 per person a bargain though apparently never overcrowded. Toilets showers etc. functional, nothing special.
Butchers in Bakewell and Youlgreave great for BBQ material. Gorgeous Lathkill Dale is about 400 metres away. Pub The Lathkill 25 mins walk in Over Haddon - excellent beer, single malt and views, tho not decor but v pernickety food serving times - you often arrive to find them closing kitchens. Other good pubs in Monyash and Monsdale Head.

We had 2 lovely nights here. Good flat field, very quiet and wonderfully uncrowded! Facilities are good, plenty of toilets, showers, washing up sinks, recycling bins galore. The owners are friendly, and you can even get a takeaway breakfast if you like ! Perfect for young families.

This was a lovely campsite, although the sign said it was full it was not overcrowded at all. The toilets and showers were always clean. Very basic, so take everything you want with you, but fantastic views and nice relaxed feel. We were first time campers and are converted! The higher field is flatter and so was busier, but we still had plenty of room to move. We had a nice walk in Lathkill Dale a few minutes drive down the road. If you've got kids of any age, we'd recommend the Bull's Head pub in Monyash - it has a big new adventure playground at the back.

We have just spent a bank holiday weekend here and it was lovely and quiet; most pitches are around the edge of the two camping fields and the owner controls intake in order to sustain the beauty of the site. (Unlike other sites that get overcrowded to make maximum profit). There are views all around; the better views are in the top field but you do catch the wind up there as it is exposed. Facilities are adequate when site not full. It needs more showers at busy times. Also only one washing up sink (cold water) so as long as you can work around that, its not a problem. Basically it is a farm camp site in a superb walking location just above Lathkill Dale and the owner lets you get on with it which is nice; no marked pitches and a relaxed feel to the place; very few rules / signs. Plenty of grass for kids/adults to play on but no play area as such. Some chickens and an amusing collie add to the character of the site. I would definitely return.

July 2005 Wonderful small quiet campsite.
Basic with just hot showers, toilets and washing up area.
Friendly owners, and chickens roaming freely around the site.
Close to Bakewell, but in the heart of the countryside, so a great place to get away from it all and relax, and at only £3 per person per night it's cheap too.
Lathkill Dale is within walking distance, and is a very pretty walking route. Dark Peaks are only about 30mins away.
Also closeby is Chatsworth House.
We will definitely visit again if we are in the area.
