A lovely sheltered campsite on a working dairy farm. The owner Tim was very friendly and welcoming.
Wash block is small, but was always clean and with plenty of (free) hot water. Washing up sinks were outside, but under cover.
Children's play area comprised swings, slide, playhouse and also a barrel train towed by Tim on a quad bike - the children thought this was the best thing ever - I was just disappointed it wasn't big enough for me to have a go.
Tour of the farm was informative, and a great opportunity for the kids to understand where milk comes from in a bit more detail.
Pitches are on very nice grass, but worth noting that once you have dropped your stuff off, you need to put your car in a carpark.
Many of the reviews mentioned Tims friendly dogs which did put me off a bit (not being a dog lover) but the three of them are genuinely lovely - don't let this put you off!

Lovely location, amazing views, goats, chickens, guinea fowl, ducks, dogs and cows. There were 4 swings, a slide, a large playhouse and tube for the children to play on.
It was £18-£19 per night for our tents. It’s a short drive to The Fisherman’s Arms which was in a nice location and we had a good meal. We were very disappointed when we returned to the cafe next door to the pub the next day (Sunday) when they told us breakfast had finished despite arriving 50 minutes before they closed and made no apology or offer of help.
When we returned to the campsite to pack up the farmer gave us a tour of the farm which was fascinating. We loved the back scratcher and the waterbeds for the cows! We would definitely return.

We stayed here for a couple of nights over the Easter weekend. Tim and his dogs were very friendly and welcoming. He places our three tents together next to a large field full of cows.
You are allowed a fire pit, which was welcome as the April evenings are a little chilly. He put on a barrel ride for the children and showed us around the milking sheds, we even helped bring the cows out to graze. The showers are basic but clean and roomy. This is a lovely campsite with fantastic views and friendly hosts.
We will definitely go back again.

Had three brilliant nights staying over the Easter period. Both Tim and Karen most welcoming and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable.
Showers were clean with plenty of hot water. Fresh produce available to purchase, fresh eggs, sausages and the bacon is the best.
Highly recommended 🙂

We were looking for a small quiet and friendly campsite to take our little dog to. I phoned Tim 'the owner' to see if he had a pitch, he wasn't open, but said we could go anyway. On arrival we had a friendly welcome from Tim whom was rolling the area. We were shown the pitches and selected one.
There were 3 dogs, our little dog soon made friends with them, especially Digger, a Patterdale Puppy. The site is clean and tidy, the wash rooms/toilets are clean but a bit on the chilly side, hey its camping!
There are nice views and plenty of birds to waken to in the am. There are gardens and National Trust Homes aplenty on your doorstep '30 minute drive away' and the Fishermens' Pub and Restaurant is a 5 minute drive away.
We will be returning during the summer months and taking our grandchildren.

What a gem of a site in a beautiful location. We stayed 4 nights and came away completely relaxed and chilled having enjoyed the atmosphere and facilities this 'working farm' has to offer. Whether you are camping or caravanning the washing up, toilet and shower blocks are clean and functional and provide exactly what one could want.
Children are well catered for and the play facilities are fun and allow a freedom alien to many in this day and age. With superb fishing, walks, pubs and shopping a short drive away and above all superb hosts, with a passion for what they do. You could not have a better site to take a break, enjoy.
Remember this is a working farm and must be respected as such.

We can't say enough good things about Nicholson Farm. We stayed on bank holiday weekend and forgot to book an electric hook up but Tim and Karen still managed to accommodate us in a separate area with electric via the greenhouse.
The site was extremely well-maintained, the toilet and shower block were clean and perfectly adequate, the views were outstanding, Tim and Karen were wonderful hosts offering tours of the dairy farm and barrel train rides for the kids as well as cooked full English breakfasts each morning for a small fee - delicious and convenient for groggy campers first thing in the morning!
The kids were safe to go on bike rides around the immediate area surrounding the campsite, there were some lovely walks in easy reach and an abundance of wildlife to see including the farm animals - our kids loved the goat and the chickens as well as Tim and Karen's dogs! All in all a memorable and truly relaxing stay.
We will go back again.

A return visit to this lovely little site for us. We found it clean and uncrowded just as we like it. There are plenty of things to do including Barrel train rides for the kids, very informative farm tours and plenty of walks.
Tim & Karen were most helpful and friendly. The farm dogs were lovely and the site was kept clean. Beautiful views to wake up to and all the sights and sounds of the countryside made our stay delightful. We will be back again.

What a charming little place, we had the field to ourselves which was nice but the pitches are spacious, well mown and clean.
The farmer was very busy but still had time to weld a broken pole for us when he returned from the fields at 9. 00pm. A real gent.
The facilities are basic, but clean and plenty of hot water. All that is needed for a short stay.
It's a working farm, and yes there are a couple of dogs that wonder around, personally they added to the charm of the place, they were great with the kids and never got in the way even when bacon and sausage was cooking.
We will return for a longer visit in the summer hols, we had a very, very relaxing stay, and the fire pits are always a welcome addition to any campsite.

Stayed here to meet up with family on a bank holiday weekend. I would normally camp somewhere quieter, with less going on but the location and views here were lovely.
The pitches are numbered and very close to each other, with no space left unused. I was glad not every pitch was filled while we were there, but I would imagine this isn't a problem outside of peak times.
A good site for wildlife, lots of Buzzards and Hares around. The dawn chorus was spectacular.
Campfires are an essential part of camping to me. Fire pits are provided. Although the wood is little more expensive than a lot of other sites there is enough to last an evening and it does come with enough straw and newspaper to get it going, which is a nice touch.
The facilities were adequate and kept clean and stocked all weekend. Hot water was plentiful. It's always nice when a freezer is provided to re-freeze your ice packs.
The owners are clearly putting a lot of effort into providing breakfasts (which were apparently very tasty, although I didn't try one myself) and entertainment for their guests. As well as the swings and other play equipment, the farmer gave the kids a ride in his barrel train (towed by quad) for a pound each. There was a farm tour on Saturday.
Unfortunately, all the child-friendly features of this site cannot make up for the dog mess, which is decidedly child-unfriendly. Despite having signs up asking for dogs to be kept on leads, the vast majority of the campers were not doing so and there were some local dogs that roamed freely around the site and made a bit of a nuisance of themselves. This meant there was lots of dog mess around the site. Particularly around the play equipment.
If you have a child or even an adult in your party who is not comfortable around dogs, or perhaps a dog of your own who is not great with other dogs, this site would not be suitable as your pitch will be visited by unaccompanied dogs. If you like meeting strange dogs and having them pee on your kit and try to eat your food, this is definitely the place to come.
This spoiled an otherwise decent site and I have lowered my ratings accordingly.
