Stop moaning to the review moaning about the showers and the space, we were there, this site was lovely, it was bank holiday and the weather was great!, there was nothing wrong with the site, in fact there was everything right with it.
We are experienced owners of caravans and static caravans. It was on our first camping (under canvas) trip for 20 years and we were a little worried about what to expect and how we would settle in again.
If all our trips and camping experiences are as wonderful as this one then we will be happy campers for a long time.
It wasn't tight, we have a gelert 6+2 and we found it fine.
We have already said we will be making a return visit and we are looking forward to finding a date to set and even making it our default weekend base camp.
The fishing lake has some great fish in it, tricky at times to get a hold of but a bad workman never blames himself! I'm just a bad fisherman or so my children tell me.
Parking was no issue, there were over 30 children on the site and i would rather park my car away from where we camp to make sure they don't get hurt.
We have recommended Nicholson farm to our friends, not only for the camp site but for the effort that the owners both put into making the site a great relaxing, fun and care free place. Activities for the children teaching them about the farm and farming, i know that our youngest loved every minute and the oldest (teenager) was surprisingly impressed.

We have been totally charmed by Nicholson Farm. All the happy campers were treated to a dairy farm tour, pond dipping and seed planting. Tim is a wealth of local information on nature and his views on farming were informative and considered. This was our first trip of the 2013 season and the generous hosts (luckily) helped us out when we forgot our hook-up cable, ran out of gas and couldn't find our tent pegs! The children were delighted with the safe yet challenging playground and if the hot water does run out first thing (it was a particularly busy B/H weekend) then enjoy a bacon sandwich, a cup of tea and try again. Dinner at the King's Head was a welcome treat. We will be back.

To be fair we did use this site at probably one of the busiest weekends of the year, however. The showers ran out of hot water, the toilets failed on a few occasions and there were often queues in the mornings. Cars were asked to park away from the tents to reduce vehicles on site, however being the sceptic I suggest this is to fit on more tents. The space between our tent and our neighbours barely allowed for space to walk between them. If you have anything wider than a Montana 6 you will struggle to fit on the pitch, as did some of the other campers.
Having said all this, the owner tried very hard to rectify problems when he was notified. The site is in a great location with views over farmland. The guided trips around the farm were engaging for kids and adults alike and the firepits were fabulous, being free with a £6 barrow full of firewood. The fishing lake kept a number of us occupied over the weekend, but didn't offer up much more than some small silver fish.
We met some great people and the warm welcome from Tim probably negates some of the issues we encountered. Probably not a site we would use again over a bank holiday, but we will probably be back on a quieter weekend.

Management response: Firstly we would just like to point out that the points raised about our showers and toilets have given a real false impression to other future guests about what they were really like... What actually happened was that one of our guests left the hot water tap on all night and overnight resulting in a malfunction in the mens shower and a loss of hot water. Tim had to turn the water off for approximately one hour in the middle of the day when the site was quiet. Notices were put on the toilets to explain what was happening. These guests went in to the Ladies anyway and used them, hence they wouldn't flush. What else could we do, we even changed the taps so it wouldn't happen again.
We are a very small site and we are only busy on bank holidays so for safety purposes with loads of young children on the site we ask for cars to be parked in our carpark.
We find that people arent letting us know that they are bringing huge tents, we were just unlucky that everyone seemed to do it this time. We even left 3 pitches free so the children had space to play.
This review is unfair and we have around 18 other guests who appreciated all the effort Tim went to to ensure everyone was looked after. He even did a free farm tour and a seed planting show for all the young gardeners again free. |

We visited Nicholson Farm in April having decided we would prefer to stay at a real farm rather than a purpose built campsite and we were not disappointed!
The owners were very welcoming and were always available if we needed anything.
The toilets were spotless and the showers are hot and clean.
The breakfast pack with their own sausages were amazing!
There is a lovely playground for the younger children and we can't wait to go back with my sister and her family.

We visited here with our three children 6, 3 and 1 to try out our new tent for two nights. The site itself is great. Lovely and friendly, very safe for the children. The playground is great. There were lots of children when we were there and they all played together for hours.
The amount of firewood you get for £6 is well worth it its lovely to have a fire and toast marshmallows. No hire cost for fire pit either which is good.
Free freezer facilities, free showers lots of hot water and plenty of room when we were there but wasn't full. Owners are lovely too.
Shops are quite far away so you really need to be able to drive. Nowhere to buy milk or anything on site, but you can buy sausages and bacon.
Overall great site but not much to do in the local area. If you want peace and quiet, friendly and welcoming this site is for you!

For families this is a brilliant site. It is secure and child friendly. Tim the owner lives close and makes sure there is no late night noise.
Don't worry about the lake it is on the other side of a field of cows with 2 fences between the camp and it.
The owners are both very friendly and visits to chat and make sure everyone is fine a few times a day. It is a working farm and Tim is very happy to show it off and talk about what goes on. He does a tractor ride around explaining sites and the wildlife as you go.
Fire pits are old car wheels welded together so they are heavy and solid, A barrow of wood for £6 sounds expensive but you get what you pay for!
When we went the site was about 1/3 full. I would recommend booking in as some of the pitches don't seem to great and if full would possibly feel a bit cramped.
The facilities are slightly wanting. There is a freezer you can use for ice-packs but this is within the ladies toilets entrance hall. There are 2 clean toilets for each sex with a shower each as well. Out of the 2 toilets only one is really usable as the other has no light.
That is the only downside to what is a brilliant site. Kids will love feeding the chickens and seeing the cows up close, The play area is much better than the pictures portray.
Local area has a wonderful pub called the kings head, which despite appearances from the road is open and isn't a dive. Lovely food and good garden.
Overall will definitely be returning!

We stayed at Nicholson Farm for 2 nights back in May to test our New Montana 6P. Very welcoming and friendly site situated on a working farm. Wasn't too busy which is what I like and the views of the Herefordshire countryside were lovely as well as the countryside nearby.
Facilities were good and it was value for money. We purchased some mild and eggs which were lovely.
Only complaint was the tent next door was closer then I would have liked I could hear one of the occupants snoring!

Just back from a one night stay at Nicholson Farm. What a beautiful site set overlooking wonderful countryside with lovely walks.
The site was busy as it being the first sunny weekend of the year but despite this it was not noisy. Kids played happily as kids should with traditional activities.
We had a walking tour of the farm with Tim as the trailer was out of action. He & Karen are very friendly & welcoming. We hired a fire pit & bought some wood for the evening. I can recommend the sausage & bacon, delicious!
There are 2 loos & one shower for the ladies, kept clean & tidy.
We had to go before the water slide fun started but hope to be back during the summer.
Thanks for a great stay.

It's located down a long drive away from any traffic noise so it was very peaceful and quiet which was exactly what we were looking for, we had the added bonus of glorious weather,
The views here are stunning the site overlooks a lake and is surrounded by beautiful countryside, with plenty of walks directly from the farm.
We took a route circling the farm to the local pub the Kings Head great food.
Tim and Karen offer a warm welcome and are happy to show you round, we saw the dairy in action, fed the Chickens, Turkeys and the Pigs who are happy to eat all of your scraps.
The farm produces its own bacon, sausages and eggs which are delicious you can even have it cooked for you and brought to your tent which we took advantage of.
There are 4 toilets and 2 showers which were clean and tidy, showers had plenty of hot water for which there is an honesty box for 50p.
The highlight for us was hiring a campfire complete with a nights wood for £6 and just admiring the view from our tent.

We recently spent a weekend at Nicholson Farm in our touring caravan with electric hook-up.
The site is small and friendly with lovely views of the countryside.
The fishing pool is pleasant and peaceful. We enjoyed a weekends fishing for a reasonable fee.
Tim was helpful and friendly.
All in all it was an enjoyable stay and we will visit again.
