We were warmly welcomed by the campsite manager - a good sign - along with minimal rules and regulations, and he wished us luck in pitching our large frame tent. We needed it, dashing from the car in short bursts between heavy showers, as the daylight faded, on a decidedly spongy pitch - more a baptism by flood than fire. 'Should pensioners be inflicting this on themselves?' we asked ourselves, more than once.
That was the lowest point of an otherwise very enjoyable week. (The only mud we saw on site that week, was the small patch we created - unavoidably - in our tent's walk-in entrance. )
We woke the next day to blinding sun. The campsite is delightfully located, with the Camel Estuary in view, and belts of woodland providing windbreaks and refuge for the prolific birdlife. The generously sized pitches - though on a gentle slope - presented no problems and the site was well-drained & maintained throughout. A nice touch was the metalled track, fringed by white gravel to assist drainage, which also allowed easy navigation to the loo at night without the need for a torch! The toilet and washing block are new, I believe, and even when the site filled up, there was no queuing for facilities.
Dennis Cove Campsite is well situated for many things. It's a kilometer's walk to Padstow. There's an excellent footpath and cycle trail to Wadebridge and Bodmin. There are watersports, nature and heritage walks. Were I judging the site solely on its management and well kept condition, I'd award it 10/10. However, someone with a limited walking range might find the short, sharp hill leading to the site entrance a bit of a challenge. Also, the nearest supermarket is quite a hike away, if you like to buy your provisions locally. The closest shop for camping accessories is in the centre of Padstow, but it is excellent. You'll be hard pressed to ask for something in the camping line that he doesn't stock! For 'foodies' there are opportunities in Padstow to suit all pockets, though beware - the harbour gulls will mug you - literally - for your Cornish Pasty.
Overall, then, I'd award the campsite 8/10 and would have no hesitation in recommending it. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Just returned from an excellent week spent at Dennis Cove. Took 3 boys (aged 6, 8 & 11 years) who especially enjoyed cycling on the Camel Trail and the nearby beaches for surfing. Padstow is only 10 mins walk away, so no need to use the car. The site is very clean with great toilet/shower blocks and washing up facilities. The owners were friendly and helpful. Our pitch was close to the facilities and reception. No on-site shop, but a Tesco 5 mins car ride away and a Lidl in Wadebridge (5 mile cycle ride if you feel energetic and need only a few items). Will definitely return and spend longer than a week next time!

This was the first of our stops in Cornwall this year and we were greeted by an amazing view of Padstow estuary bathed in full sun as we drove over the top of the hill before the entrance to Dennis lane. Fab staff and very helpful. The site is on a slight slope but no problem. We were about half way up on the left and had a nice view. The left side has the evening sun. Padstow is just a 5 or 10 min walk away around a small pond and lovely short section of the camel path next to the estuary. Padstow has a fantastic small harbour with many gift shops, eating places, pubs etc, we found a very nice chip shop called 'Chip Ahoy' and fantastic value (unlike the over priced Rick Stine fish and chip restaurant) The site toilets, showers and dish washing etc are totally spotless and look new, showers are with a 40p token and last a good 5 mins. The weather was hot, hot, hot with 25c + for the full 2 weeks of our stay, it was an expensive site with no hook up but we loved it.

What makes this site stand out is the location.
Its only a short walk into Padstow along a cycle path. Padstow is a really nice place with a harbour, a few pubs and Rick Steins fish and chips.
Cycle hire is available nearby so you can cycle along the cycle path.
Dogs welcome but an extra charge. The site itself is OK, reasonably sized pitches and well maintained but at the top end of price at around £28 per night including a small dog and EHU, but if you want a fantastic location then this is the price you pay.

My husband, our dog and I stayed here for a week. We found the site to be very good, staff friendly and helpful, very quiet and peaceful and the toilets and showers always clean.
Great site to visit Padstow as its only about a 20 minute walk into town. Also good to visit all the surrounding areas. No shop on-site but there is a Tesco only 5 minutes up the road.
The road to get to the site is very narrow hence why they ask you to arrive after a certain time. I don't think the site except any caravans over around 23ft as you just wouldn't be able to get to it.
The only negative I have is you have to pay for the showers. I personally think this should be included in the site price you pay.
All in all a great site and we would definitely return.

Perfect position for Padstow and Camel trail. Small but friendly with extremely clean facilities. Path to Camel trail a little narrow so limited mobility people may find this tricky.
Some level pitches but main area on gently sloping grass area. Able to park cars next to pitches.
Views of the Camel Estuary can be enoyed from many pitches.
Showers use tokens but a 40p token gives a great long hot shower.
Would happily stay there again!

This was our first camping holiday. It did not disappoint. You can choose from the main powered pitch site or the overflow. We went for the overflow.
With magnificent views across the Camel estuary over to Rock and beyond. The overflow has no power but this was not a problem. Neither was the short walk to the toilet block. The overflow is on a relatively steep hill so if you are at the top it gets your lungs working.
The powered part was, lets say, more intimate, with tents closer together. But everyone seemed happy. Having said this it was the middle of August so you would expect it to be quite full.
The site is very near to Padstow with a good ferry crossing to Rock and sits directly on the camel trail cycle route. What more could you want ?
The toilet block served its purpose and the staff friendly and polite.
If I were returning to Padstow I would use this site again

Lovely site close to Padstow which is a very scenic harbour town.
10 minute walk to the start of the working harbour and a further 5 to 10 minutes to get into the town centre.
On check in I was greeted by a very friendly chap who made me feel very welcome and explained where things were. A very nice man !
I was on the top (overflow) field, which gives fantastic views. But a good walk to the showers/toilet/washing up area. And the field is very steep. O. K going down but its hard work going back up it !
Showers were excellent and you got plenty of time for 40p (tokens from reception).
I stopped 2 nights and was charged £16 a night for one person in a 2 man tent with one car which I thought was fairly reasonable value considering the locality.
If you go to Padstow one of the best things is the Camel Trail which is a disused railway line between Wenfordbridge, Bodmin, Wadebridge and Padstow. I hired a mountain bike for £12 for the day and cycled to Bodmin and back via Wadebridge. A 22 mile round trip.
Padstow to Wadebridge is relatively flat but much more up hill onto Bodmin.
Some fantastic scenery. I got vey wet, very muddy and very tired but loved it ! Highly recommended.
No shop or bar on site and no kids facilities but a really nice quiet site. If I go back to Padstow I`d stop here again.

Spent 4 nights at this very pleasant site. Site owners very welcoming.
The pitches were of a very good size. Toilets and showers very clean but you had to pay 40p for a shower by using tokens from reception.
Location is in an excellent position for a very easy stroll into Padstow 10 mins max. And also right next to the Camel trail if you like walking or cycling.
Would highly recommend this site for location.

Stayed 2 nights at Dennis Cove, the attraction when booking being it's location and access to Padstow. The walk was perfect, 10 minutes each way via the Camel trail; the bike ride along which to Wadebridge was a perfect way to spend a few hours dodging the rain showers!
The reception staff were very helpful and friendly and the facilities kept clean however I also feel somewhat irked at being charged for showers when other sites include this facility within their price - many of those that we stayed in for the week were better value, and I have to say more updated, than Dennis Cove. Also with all the facilities being located in a single place, by the reception area, I felt sorry for anyone pitching further into the field than we were as it was a bit of a walk for us, so goodness knows how those and the tent field up the steps coped.
We were also unable to secure an EHU for our 2 night stay as the site have very few of these and again, these are located close to the reception area.
Had I realised that this site charged for showers (totally my fault for not checking website thoroughly enough) I probably would not have booked. That said, the easy access to Padstow more than made up for the let down in the facilities once we were there.
