We live in Cornwall and go away most weekends March-October, and we are very fortunate to have a huge choice of sites in the County

We have stayed at Watergate Bay TP, 8 times in the last year (including 2 weeks August/September) and later today we will be off to stay there for another weekend too. At present June 2012, is the date of our last visit to Watergate Bay TP.

We love this site, it's in our top 3 camping sites, the owners and staff are really helpful and friendly. The showers and toilets are always very clean as is the site overall. The pool with a retractable roof is excellent, covered on wet days and open on hot sunny days. There is also a free bus to the beach in high season and local buses stop right outside the main entrance and entrance to the inner park is via a barrier.

The shop is well stocked for a campsite and far more than adequate. The club, bar restaurant and take away was refurbished over the winter and is now looking very smart we find the meals very good and the breakfasts awesome, particularly as this season there is a loyalty scheme, buy 5 get 6th breakfast for £1. The restaurant also has a different meal deal each evening.

If you are visiting Watergate Bay TP, hope you have a great holiday.

Jude

Spent a fortnight here in August 2011. A very large site with most facilities for the average family. The site looks good as you enter and reach reception staff are friendly and helpful. Pitches are quite close together shower blocks are fine.

The on site shop is expensive as you would expect but does stock nearly everything, a nice touch is the free mini bus from the site down to the bay and back, several times a day and at busy periods does 2 runs to make sure everyone who wants to use it gets to go.

There are good views of the sea from various points in the park There is a games room and fast food outlet a on site swimming pool with a removable roof for all weathers. Wi-fi is supposed to be all over the park but unless you are pitched near to reception you wont get it. All this comes to you at a price and at over £50 a night for a caravan pitch with full facilities, in high season is over-priced. Apart from that small gripe the place is well looked after and a nice place to stay at

We stayed at Watergate Bay for 9 nights in August in a touring caravan. Our pitch was a good size, level and grassy and located right next to the pool and clubhouse, which wasn't a problem for us, although those with small children would probably find the music from the club at night a nuisance.

The site's facilities are good - tennis court, skate park, covered pool, clubhouse, restaurant/take away, amusement arcade. Nothing is on a large scale but there's just enough to keep the average family entertained, whatever the ages of your children.

There's a courtesy bus which runs you to & from Watergate Bay beach several times a day - we didn't use it as we preferred to use the car but plenty of people did.

Watergate Bay beach was probably only a 10min walk away but the walk incorporates a very long, steep hill which only the fittest of people would cope with and with surf boards, wet suits, etc, even they might struggle! The toilet/shower facilities were sufficiently clean and only experienced a couple of cold showers at busy times of the day but all in all, not bad.

The food at the restaurant/take away was basic and average prices but service was good and fast. The most impressive thing about this site was the helpfulness of the staff - when we arrived we had problems with our electric cable - a maintenance guy saw us struggling and came over to offer assistance straight away.

Although he couldn't resolve the problem he told us to ask at reception and they would lend us a cable for a small refundable deposit, which saved us having to find somewhere to buy another one, as we had a spare one at home!

It's the little things like this that make sites like these stand out - simple solutions to everyday problems and general thoughtfulness without trying to squeeze a few extra quid out of people. Marvellous!

The site is situated in a beautiful part of Cornwall with lots of pretty little beaches and cute little Cornish villages. We will definitely return to the area soon.

The only reason we probably wouldn't return to Watergate Bay is that we found it's location (up high above sea level) a bit of a negative where the weather's concerned.

On quite a few occasions we left the site in cool temperatures, overcast skies etc but a few hundred yards down towards the sea, it was bright sunshine and several degrees warmer!

All things considered, a lovely site, very well run by a family who obviously care about their site and their customers.

We asked on booking if we could be near our family's van. We were offered non electric in the outfield. Whilst it was close, there was an empty pitch next to our sister's van for the whole time.

The main site has a superb dog walking area, in fact 2 good sized fields. On the outfield there are very few facilities - few toilets and showers.

It is close to the beech, but the hike down is a good 3/4 mile along the coastal path. The beech is crowded and dogs are permitted, but it is difficult to allow them to play in the water due to the crafts/kids. Best to walk along a little until it gets a bit quieter.

The supervision/attendance in the outfield is minimal and the bins provided overflow quickly. If you are in search of a quiet location with good views, then this is well placed.

The outer areas are quiet, but much of the facilities are not there and it is a good walk to get to the main site where you can buy your tokens for a bath etc. Not great value for money

Just returned from a very nice 6 night stay at Watergate Bay Touring Park with a small group of friends (in our 20s).

The location is great, we wanted to be near to Newquay without all the hustle and bustle, and this site was perfect for that.

The nearest beach is watergate bay and we were very impressed that the campsite ran a free mini bus to and from the beach each day. We used this once, and other times decided to walk or drive down ourselves (for more flexible leaving time from the beach).

It is a ten minute walk down to the beach although on the way back it is uphill so takes a bit longer.

The campsite has a good mini market stocking all the basic things you may need whilst camping (bread/milk etc) for resonable prices. The nearest supermarket seemed to be the Morrisons in Newquay about a 10/15 minute drive away.

The toilet blocks are clean and we rarely had to queue to use the shower or the toilet, except for at peak times, but this was not too much of a problem. The showers are powerful and warm although can be cooler during the peak times.

There is a plug socket which we used to plug our hairdryer into although you have to get a token from reception for this, which costs 40p for 5 minutes.

The campsite has a super cafe and everything is available to take away. We used this once and were impressed, if we had been staying longer we would have used it more. The campsite seems to attract a wide variety of people (families with children, small groups of adults, couples etc).

If you have children then there is a small playground and plenty of space to run around in. The campsite is also dog friendly with a large dog exercise area.

We found the campsite to meet all our needs, and it was quiet after 11pm which allows for a good night sleep. The only noise comes from the occasional low flying plane or helicopter that flys over (the airport is very near by!).

Overall we were very impressed with our stay and the area in general, and would stay here again in the future.

I would recommend visiting Padstow, walking the coast path which is very beautiful.

This is a lovely clean site we stayed on a pitch in the separate field which had views over the bay

We had a pitch with a direct view over the wall/hedge so we faced our caravan with the big window having the view and they did not mind that at all.

They do however like the line to be in sequence car then caravan check with them when you check in as some people had to move around the next day but it was good this way for privacy

Watergate bay hotel, Jamie Oliver's Fifteen Restaurant and The Beach Hut Cafe are all down the bottom of hill for food and coffees but bring flatties with you to walk back up and a small torch as its quite dark in the evenings to see

I would highly recommend this site and its not too far to visit Newquay or Padstow from here as well.

We stayed over the spring half term and into the following week

Pitches- we booked a larger pitch to accomodate our needs, all the pitches were flat, well drained, well marked out, our pitch was in the middle of the field and quite exposed wind wise but good pitches. Did feel a little sardine like when site full

Toilet/shower facilities- clean, never out of loo roll, plenty for the campsite but small cubicles, the showers were small one block had the shower head facing the door(my clothes got wet no matter where I put them) and one block facing the other way (much better) but still very small, I got one shower that I had to keep my hand on the button and shower one handed to enable the water to flow my partner didn't have any problems

Washing facilities- excellent however not always left in a clean condition by other campers

Swimming pool/playground - as a family we would class these as the sites saving grace, our son loved both, the pool doesn't have a lifeguard and when the sites full can get very crowded with unsupervised children, but great facilities, the pirate playship was a huge hit with our 5yr old and had several swims a day! We didn't use the tennis courts or skate park but both were well used during our stay, Kids club wasn't running during the half term break sadly

We didn't use the cafe games room or bar but even with a live band on the bar was not excessively loud or disturbing

Location- Excellently placed for watergate bay beach, no minibus service during our stay so no comments on that, a short drive to other of cornwalls fabulous attractions

GOOD POINTS- location, level pitches/size, pool&play area

BAD POINTS- site not monitored at night, excessive noise levels from other campers well into the early hours. Children on scooters/bikes/skateboards well into the night. Other campers using pitches as cut throughs even when pitches occupied. Rowdy behaviour at times in the pool

We went to Watergate Bay Touring Park in August 2010. It is a brilliant site, my children aged 6 and 9 loved the Skate Park, Pirate Ship and the pool as well as the games room. The takeaway and clubhouse were brilliant too especially the Cornish Rattler Cider yum yum!

The entertainment in the clubhouse was good too and my daughter enjoyed the craft things in the kids club.

The pitches are generous and are level. When we arrived we needed to hire an extension for our hook up which was fine and was only £20 which we got back at the end of our holiday. The reception area is very good with lots of leaflets and very helpful staff.

The toilet blocks were warm and had music to wash to and were cleaned every morning. My husband complained a couple of times about the gents being a little dirty later on in the day, but the ladies was always clean (men LOL!)

The Laundrette and dishwashing area was great too. Had three/four sinks to wash your pots in as well as a couple of washing machines and dryers which were great to use on the last day to save doing it when you get home.

The minibus to the beach is brilliant too especially on the way back as the walk to the beach is downhill and a lovely walk but coming back is a steep incline.

The pub down by the beach called the Phoenix is a lovely pub with a balcony to sit and enjoy the cornish sun whilst having a drink or two. We didn't manage to have any food in there this time but it did look lovely.

There is a bus which stops right outside the site which goes to Newquay one way and the other to Padstow.

We really enjoyed ourselves here and will be returning again next August.

On arrival we had to pick our site number, info etc from the bar, the man behind the bar ignored us for ages and when I asked him for his help, he was very rude.

The shower block was not particularly clean, with a pot full of cigarette butts right outside the door. Disgusting.

The girl on reception was friendly and helpful, a bonus.

We camp at least 8 times a year, but really did not rate this site.

I feel more attention to who they let on the site would benefit them as they do not seem to have any rules, which means anyone can simply stay.

We will not visit again.

We have just returned from this site after 3 weeks with mixed weather but this didn't matter as the site makes up for the poor days.

Bad points (in our eyes) We stayed in area A, this area has a lot of permanent pitches with one or two looking worse for wear which could put you off, there is also a lot of long term tourers that are stored at the site and these are brought out by the staff when their owners are due on their holiday and put in various places around the site again some of these are a little tried.

The toilets could do with a little something although they are relatively new they are basic with tiled cold floors and a grate in every shower just were you stand (nice!) loo rolls are directly behind you (when sitting) which is one of the most awkward places to be, some might say we are camping so deal with it but it could be better (ie Introduce a mop/squeegee so we can all clean the shower area after use).

Good points these out way the bad. Site position is great big 10 out of 10 it's a 10 mins walk downhill to watergate beach which is one of the best around great waves and cafe close to hand(20mins walk back up) and a courtesy mini bus at various time to either take you or bring you back if you prefer.

This site is bigger than it looks on their website it has many hook ups some serviced pitches and lots of none hook up pitches. Newquay is 15 mins away by car or bus (bus stop just outside main gates) this is a great surfer area with Fistral beach not far away.

The site is directly below the flight path of Newquay airport but if you use it like what we did then it's not a problem but it could be to others, the airport is not very busy though.

Reception is helpful and pleasant and is a great place for information, play on pirate ship for the kids is a winner, skate park, tennis court were also a great hit with my two of 11 and 9.

Nightly entertainment is great if you like that sort of thing the kids just enjoyed the bingo on Thursday's! All in all this site is a great site but could be made better with a few little touches that’s why people just keep on going back year after year us included and while we were there we have already booked for next year.

The site told us that they try and make improvements every year and next years addition is to be a crazy golf type thing (to be confirm though) Try it for yourself and you won’t be disappointed. Bring on the summer again.
