Stayed for 11 days in July.  What can I say a great site.  We booked an XL pitch and it was certainly that, plenty of room for our tent, porches and kitchen tent.  Site is very flat and there is plenty of room between pitches.  I've never been on such a flat site. The grounds are well maintained and as soon as someone moves the grass is cut,.  It is also well drained, as we had plenty of rain to test it!  Pitches in the middle can be quite exposed to the wind as we found to the cost of our windbreak.

There is a big fields for the kids to play in with a wooden pirate ship and some swings, plenty of room for football etc, tennis courts, skate board park and swimming pool. Kids area away from tents so no stray footballs.  My children (8 & 9) loved it.

The toilets are clean and plentiful.  Showers good and hot water seemed in abundance. My only niggle with the loos (and this will sound petty) is that for some daft reason the toilet roll holders are directly behind the loos on the wall, so involves contortion - must have been put up by a man! - also this lead to the loo roll being shredded which littered the place, but it was quickly cleaned up.

The shop is well stocked and first thing there are hot croissants, bread and choc au pain - very tasty - reasonable prices.

Bar is fine, there was an act on every night - if you like that sort of thing., prices ok, cafe does good hot food again very reasonable and games room to keep the kids entertained.  All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Although nothing is grubby, some of the bar and cafe area look a bit tired and could probably do with a lick of paint.

You CAN walk down to watergate Bay, about 20 min walk there, but it is a very steep hill back up, shuttle bus not running till the end of our holiday - as we went during Scottish school holidays not English! be careful if you take the car as the car parks change the prices very often, some days we paid nothing, or £3 all day or £5 and at on point they were charging £7 - I guess they can charge what they want if people pay it.  I refused to pay the £7 charge and drove along the coast a couple of miles to Magwan Porth which cost us £2 which was refunded if you spent over £8 in pub or chippie.

All the beaches are great, my fav was watergate bay, would recommend getting a wetsuit in advance for kids as it allows them to enjoy the water for longer.  There are numerous boat trips from Newquay harbour, we did an hour trip for £5 around the Quay which included fishing for mackerel, highlight of the trip was the seals that followed the boat looking for any spare fish! The Crealy adventure park is worth a visit, we got the holiday ticket which is £15 and allows you to visit as often as you like in 14 day period.  Eden project about 30 mins away and well worth a visit, also Lands End which was just over 1 hour away.

I would go back, hopefully get the sunshine we thought we would get!

We stayed at this campsite for 11 nights and thought it was fantastic. All staff were very helpful and friendly. The site itself was always clean and secure using the security barrier that recognises your car registration number.

The toilet block was always clean with a few showers and wash rooms. The size of the pitches were very generous and fairly flat. The shop was well stocked and did amazing chocolate croissants. The bar onsite was nice and prices reasonable.

Watergate provide a free bus service to the beach although we did not use. However we did walk down to the beach and it took about 15 mins.

Newquay town centre was about a 15 mins drive with good shops.

We had a really good holiday here and would definitely return to this campsite.

What can I say. Just had 6 nights at this site and booked again for two weeks next year! It is in an excellent location being only three quarters of a mile from the beautiful Watergate Bay.

The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and a mine of information. The site is kept very clean and the toilets and showers are of a high standard. There was the normal problem of only warm water at peak times but if you are prepared to shower outside of the peak times the water is lovely and hot.

The pitches are large enough for the big tents (we got the Hartford XL with canopy plus a four man tent on ours quite easily) and there are plenty of water and waste disposal points.

There is a well stocked shop on site that provides anything that you may have forgotten, along with a cafe, bar, swimming pool, play area and children's club there is everything you need for a good holiday. The complimentary bus service to the beach is an added bonus. There is entertainment every night in the bar but if you find it isn't to your liking you can just spend hours watching cars trying to get through the entrance gate as they have installed a number plate recognition system that you have to hit just right to trigger the barrier!

All this and the opportunity to explore the lovliest county in England! Overall a great holiday on a great site!

Me and my boyfriend have just been away to this campsite for a week with another couple and we found it excellent. I was with someone who has never been camping before and she found it great The facilities are ok and the showers are clean and always have hot water. I would recommend the site to anyone its in a lovely location 10mins walk from the beach and 10mins drive from Newquay centre and it caters for all ages.

Just returned from a relaxing few days at Watergate bay. Campsite was what we needed. Good size pitches and large toilet block. Toilet block was regularly cleaned although during our stay the (only) hand drier in the ladies was never cleaned and was filthy.Cleaners need to look above floor level! Is there any chance the showers could stay on for a little longer. 3 seconds is not enough! It would also help those cleaning if there were more bins in the toilets as many visitors are unable to walk the distance to the one bin and dispose of tissues etc. The site shop was great.lovely warm croissants in the morning. The new barrier system was incredibly frustrating. Be prepared to leave your car in the arrival field if arriving back after 9pm and the barrier won't lift! The site is nice and close to a great beach but half a mile?!I wouldn't fancy the walk back up the hill.

Great site, well situated although a hilly walk for the beach which is dog friendly. Good pubs and food in the surrounding area the phoenix bar is worth a visit for a pizza alone. The site was clean, we stayed on the outer field, my only complaint would be that although the site has a no ball game policy, they failed to implement it during our stay, putting valuable outfits at risk of damage from leather balls footalls, kites and budding cricket players

Enormous park just a short stroll along the coastal path to a lovely surf beach. Or if you prefer, you can walk along the main road! Clean toilets and showers but not nearly enough as there was queues. Lovely gardens. Well stocked shop. Cafe with hot meals and a bar which was extremely loud on weekend nights with karaoke till midnight.Large playing field with just 2 swings and a large climbing frame, small pool and lots of kids riding bikes and scooters around the park till all hours of the night. Best stay somewhere else if you want peace and quiet. Also, the brochure failed to mention that it is next door to an airport and air-force base. Great for plane spotters, but fighter jets flying over and low altitude ALL DAY for 2 weeks was too much and terrified our young kids, as they are so so so noisy! Lots of hooks ups, lots of dogs [and unfortunately lots of dog poo], a dog run, not much for kids to do on site and this is a really really busy park.

Have visited this campsite before, and have always found the shower blocks to be very clean and the staff to be very helpful. Has a well stocked little shop, pool and plenty of space. There are also hairdrier points available, although you need a token bought from reception. There is a swipe card system to get in, which makes the place quite secure. Can get a bit windy up on the hill, but worth it for the closeness to the amazing Watergate Bay beach. Ill definitely be back.

Have been to Watergate many times and have been twice this year. Campsite is very good, the toilets are very clean. If you want more peace and quiet we find the outer field is more suited. It is located down the lane from the main site and has its own showers and toilets. The bar and entertainment are good for families, but we were not allowed in as we have a little dog. There is another place down the road which allows dogs and serves great meals. Its just that the walk back to the site can be a bit of a drag after a few beers. The shop is good on the site and stocks the essentials you may require. We love coming here, its very relaxing and the beach is fab. I'm sure we'll return again and again.

 August 2005
just got home from a week on this site. We were on the outer park, on the rally field - very spacious, caravans pitched around the outside meant there was a central 'playing field' for cricket, badminton, flying kites etc. The outer park is some distance from the main facilities but that was reflected in the discounted price (£170) for 8 nights. The toilet blocks, indeed the whole park, had a very clean feel to it. The Island bar was nice and drinks reasonably priced - house doubles at £2 is what I call reasonable.

Watergate Bay beach is fantastic, and only a short walk down the hill, but a steep one back up. The beach at Mawgan Porth was quieter but just as lovely.I would definitely returnto this site, perhaps on the main park ,but still wouldn't mind the outer one - next time I'll have a wetsuit and surfboard with me
