Arrived back yesterday from spending a week here at watergate bay touring park. When arrived staff where friendly and helpful. On site there is a small shop that sells basic things, a cafe which is located next to the island bar you can eat in or take away. They are open in a morning serving breakfast and on the evening from about 6-30pm till late for snacks, pizza, chicken and burgers etc. The cafe also provides children's meals and sell a selection of sweets, crisps and fruit shoots for the little ones.
There are two toilet blocks which were cleaned every morning within my weeks stay. There is a children park which my granddaughter loved playing on and a tennis court. The beach is about 1 mile down a very steep hill but there is a free mini bus service provided bye watergate that takes you down and picks up I dint use this service as we used our car but I did see the mini bus round and about. Over all this is one of the best touring parks I have visited and I will go back again

This is a good site which is very well placed for the fabulous Watergate Bay beach, which is about 1 mile away. It has two superb toilet/shower blocks which were always immaculate, a nice club house/bar, swimming pool, shop, café/takeaway, games room, children’s playground and tennis courts. Everything was very well maintained smart and tidy.
We were there for the last week of June and first week July 2009 and enjoyed our stay. However we were a little disappointed that some of the facilities and the entertainment are only available on a daily basis in the main school holidays, so it is worth checking what’s up and running before you book. For example the bar didn’t open until 7.00pm. There was only entertainment on Saturday nights and the free beach bus wasn’t running.
It is worth pointing out that this site is on the flight path for Newquay airport and that there is a dairy farm next door. It wasn’t a problem for us, but we were woken most days at the crack of dawn by one or the other. You can request a pitch well away from the farm but obviously there’s nothing that you can do to avoid the aircraft noise. But if you are a plane spotter it’s heaven.
Watergate Bay beach is one of the best in Cornwall. It is dog friendly and there is a great pub on the beach called the Beach Hut, which also has a Jamie Oliver 15 restaurant above it. Also look out for the Merrymoor Inn at Mawgan Porth just along the coast. It has great sea/beach views and sells very reasonably priced food.

Lovely campsite. Great location, 15 mins walk to beautiful beach, pub, restaurant. The shop on site closes at 11am, but there are others within 5 minutes drive and a cafe and bar (sky sports) on site. Good facilities. I'd imagine this place gets very busy during holidays, booking advisable.

Well after reading these reviews, we were indeed very lucky to have chosen the sunniest week in Cornwall ! It was our first 'proper' tent holiday after a few test weekenders, and the distance from home meant there were some nerves and trepidation. We needn't have worried - this was a lovely site; well kept (extremely), good facilities and superb location. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable and there were clean, adequate toilet and shower facilities.
It was however the week before the majority of schools closed for summer, so it was idyllic as it was - I would guess that it would have been mayhem the week after and much busier.
Kids were safe - we hardly saw them and were never worried. They made friends and the ambience of the site ensured it was a trusting, safe and happy place to be. On-site security was reassuring too.
Only niggle really, if I had to pick one, would be the shop was a little limited for certain things - unless you got there early for example, you could forget buying a bag of ice. I didn't like driving to Newquay every day just to get ice to keep my Magners cool (yes, we have a fridge, but I do like me Magners ! :-) )
We have booked again for this year, for a full fortnight. Can't wait. If the ambience and weather is as good then we are in for another treat.

This site is in a great location. Its a short walk down to Watergate Bay beech. Its not too far away from Newquay town centre, however we did need to drive there, though I believe there is a bus.
Its also not far from the Eden project which is a really fab place to visit if you get the chance!
We were allocated a pitch near the shower block, which didn't seem like a bad idea at the time. However at night we had some unwelcome visitors. Mice! One of them chewed their way into our tent which resulted in us sleeping in the car! This was the only downside of our trip.
The toilet blocks were clean and the showers were ok too.

Stayed at Watergate Bay for a week, and had the misfortune to choose one of the wettest, windiest weeks of the year!
Firstly it must be said that geographically the site is very well located. It is only a short drive from the brilliant Watergate beach, an excellent sandy beach which is probably one of the best beaches in Newquay for surfing.
It is probably around a 20 minute walk to the beach down the road, either from the main entrance, or the quieter back roads that links to the rear of the site (although both of these roads have quite a steep incline when walking back from the beach). The site do operate a shuttle bus to the beach, although we were told this is only during the school holiday period.
Newquay is only a short drive away, and the site is also on the bus route.
Compared to many campsites within the region, the site is reasonably priced, and also seems quite keen to promote special offers on dates just outside of the peak school holiday season.
We found the pitches were level and well maintained, staff were friendly and the site also has very good facilities including outdoor pool, play area, bar and shop which we found well stocked with essentials, along with being reasonably priced.
Toilets/washrooms were well maintained, and there was a good laundrette on site. The site also has an early arrivals field, which is a great touch for people like us who prefer to travel down during the night.
My only real criticism of the site was that I found it very open and exposed to the elements. Now this may be a little unfair as the weather was so poor, and I am a little spoilt as the sites I normally go to have a lot more trees and shelter. However our tent did take a real battering from the sea breezes. The site is quite open and exposed, with little in the way of natural shelter, although not so much of an issue for caravans or motorhomes, our tent suffered some minor damage and we saw a few smaller tents get badly damaged.
Another (more pedantic) criticism is that our pitch was right next to the nightclub/bar, and was only a few meters away. I suppose this was expected as it was a relatively late booking, and whilst noise wasn’t really an issue it was a little annoying having people constantly hanging around and walking past our pitch in the evening!
I think my enjoyment of the park was spoilt a little due to the weather, which obviously is unfair on the site. For the location alone this is a site that is well worth visiting, and the site itself is well maintained, although a little open for my liking (although again this was probably exaggerated by the weather)

We booked a premium pitch with water, electric hookup and drainage from Sat 16th-Sun 24th Aug It was raining when we arrived. We booked in easily and was told what our pitch number was. My heart sank when we saw our 'premium' pitch. It was a mud bath. There were 2/3 pitches that was hardstanding nearby and wondered why we were not allocated them when we booked 7 months ago. Anyway, we pitched up, trying to make the best of things only to be told that we were too near to the caravan on the other pitch. With the help of the site manager and his 'tractor' he managed to pull us out as we were stuck in the mud and we were allocated another pitch that was available till the following Friday. Our'neighbour' at our new pitch told us that they too had to move as their motorhome was getting stuck at their original pitch.
The site have an adventure pirate ship play area for children, skateboard park and tennis court,an outdoor pool (not heated though), a cafe (they stop serving breakfast at about 11.00am), bar/restaurant, a games room with some slot machine, a shop (sells basic grocery, newspapers, postcards, some camping supplies, some fresh bakes like cornish pasties and pies. It could do with selling some fresh vegetable, fruits and fresh meat), 2 toilet blocks and laundry facilities(£2/£3 for washing machine and £1 per 15 mins for the dryer). There is internet facilities (£2 for 20 minutes if you used their computers OR free wireless if you use your own laptop).
There is a free minibus service (nice touch) to Watergate Bay beach (at the bottom of the hill) and back. There is a bus stop just outside the entrance. Newquay is 15-20 mins by bus. There are also a number of activities organised for children plus entertainment everynight in the bar/restaurant whilst we were there. You can find the restaurant 'FIFTEEN' (Jamie Oliver's) at Watergate Bay beach. You will need to book a few months in advance if you want to have lunch or dinner there otherwise turn up early for breakfast as it is on first come first serve basis.
We were pitched near to the play area. There are still children playing after 10pm as there is no rule for 'No noise after 10pm'.
Despite the rain, we all had an enjoyable time and the staff at Watergate Bay were friendly and helpful.

We chose the windiest, wettest week in August!
Good, large site. Excellent value for money. Two shower/toilet blocks. Good facilities for children. Cafe provided a wide variety of food to eat in or take out. Entertainment in the club house - not on too late.
Requested a change of pitch (as ours was a little muddy) - very helpful reception staff assured me someone would contact me. Unfortunately this didn't happen, but the site was extremely busy. Realised the muddy conditions weren't being helped by a lawnmower cutting the wet grass every time a pitch became vacant.
Even though the weather was quite bad for the whole week, this didn't stop us enjoying the holiday. Watergate Bay beach nearby seemed to have the best waves! Conditions were too bad to have a go myself but really good for experienced surfers. Plenty of shops/bars in Newquay (10 minute drive).
Apart from the weather, had a great time! Would definitely revisit this site again.

Excellent location, even after torrential downpours our field (A) never flooded. Only downside was cold showers for 2 weeks, reported several times but never improved.Play area for children is the best I have seen, nice outdoor pool and reasonable clubhouse. Just needed the sun!

This is a very clean and well equipped site with a great location.
During our visit the weather was terrible and the ground wasn't that bad considering the amount of rain that fell. No problems with the electric hook up or the shower facilities.
The site shop was adequate as was the bar. The pool was great and there was a good playground and space for ball games.
Now for the downsides, the airport is next door, and watch out for the radio 1 road show wich is nearby, very busy and loud if the wind is coming from that direction.
We found the groups of teenagers were mingled in with the families and did what teenagers do best!
This site can get very busy at peak times. Great location for surfing and the local a&e is fantastic as is the hospital at truro.
We never saw the free mini bus. Inall the weather and how busy the site is are the only factors that could truly wreck a stay here.
