I have just come back from a 5 night stay at Thorpe Park in my parents touring caravan. Upon arrival I went and booked in to the touring check-in and I was provided with an envelope that included a park map, a cafe bar menu and our 'fun passes'. On the outside of the envelope it provided details of the wardens telephone numbers, which can be phoned 24 hours a day. We had to pay £10 refundable deposit for the family room/disabled bathroom. The key can not be used in the other toilet and shower buildings because it is a different key.
It was self allocation for the pitch, which was good because we could then choose what we thought would suit us best.
The bathroom facility included a changing table, a bench, a sink with soap, a bath (we were provided with a plug, in case the one on the side of the bath had been taken), and a wet room type shower with two hand rails and a flip down stool at a right angle to the shower. The shower floor had a non slip type mat in it also and the shower was push button. The toilet had a drop down rail and a further 3 permanent fixture rails. The wheelchair also fitted to the side of the toilet, but this was on the side of the drop down rail, so for those in a wheelchair who can use the facilities themselves they might find it a little tricky transferring themselves from their chair to the toilet. There was also a small hand wash basin and hand dryer near the toilet, but no soap dispenser.
The bathroom, was generally clean and tidy and you had to mop the floor after using the shower because it got very wet even with the curtain. The tiles are not totally smooth so there was still a some grip even with the floor being wet. Additionally when using the drop down stool the shower sprays onto your legs so it makes it difficult to to wash your back.
The water is very hot even in the shower, so for my daughter I ended up using the bath and I just braced myself for using the shower, but it was far too hot.
There were the usual Haven holiday activities and facilities, the prices in the Spar shop was your typical corner shop prices.
The site was generally quiet and clean, I'm even considering going again in my tent. Additionally, drivers are very respectful of their speed which makes it as safe as it can be for children on their bikes and scooters, although the site is in pockets of cul-de-sac style, so I felt confident allowing my daughter who is 4 and a half to ride around on her bike, without me having to watch her like a hawk.
A positive for this site was that the camping site section of the site is probably closer to the main complex than the closest static caravan.
You are expected to have left the site by 10am, but you can pay an extra £2 or £3 to stay on until 12 or 1pm respectively.

First camping trip with my wife and 2 children aged 4 and 3. We went for a pitch with no EHU because we have not bought a hook up cable yet.
Nice pitch near to the toilets and shower block which we found to be clean tidy and warm. We never knew you needed a £10 deposit which was refundable and I only had my card with me so they gave me a key anyway. Washing machines and a good area to wash your pots.
There was a good on site shop as well as great access to the beach on site. As you would expect with a haven site the on site complex has loads to do for the kids both inside and out although some things can be a bit pricey. The night entertainment was great but is mainly aimed at kids.
Very easy to find the site an check in and there is loads to do off site in Cleethorpes. Check out is 10am but you can pay £3 on the day to stay until 1pm if you wanted.
All in all for our first camping trip this ticked all the boxes, clean, tidy secure site.
Would deffo recommend a visit.

This wasn't our first visit to this site, we have actually spent a weekend in May, a weekend in June and the whole month of September 2012, this year 2013 we spent the whole of April and the whole of May, a weekend in June and a weekend in July here.
We have had torrential rain, howling winds bringing down the awning, and we have had beautiful sunshine all part of the camping experience. The weather is beyond any ones control.
The toilets and showers are cleaned fairly regularly, but are only as clean as the last person to use them.
The spar shop on site is well stocked, though quite expensive.
Entertainment and activities were of typical Haven style.
Lots of coin slot machines to play on.
We ate in the complex, food was quite nice, although the fish and chips from the kiosk wasn't so impressive. There is a Burger King on site and a pizza take away.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stays here until May this year when security became a bit of a problem. There were some local youths on the site ( mid afternoon) that had been drinking and full of bravado, came running between the caravans and stole swimming things off our rotary line, hopped over the knee high fence with it and ran off up the road with it, the slowest 2 of the 4 were challenged by a passing housekeeping man in a van who radioed for security. There was also a problem with Gypsies too, and security was stepped up and the barrier started to be manned, when we returned in June and July we didn't go in the new hard standing area, this time we went on the field further back, out of the way of passing yobs. It was also much quieter too, you didn't get the partygoers coming back from the complex in the small hours singing and laughing, and waking you up.
Another thing that has changed is the fee to stay on for an hour or two if the pitches are not fully booked, that was one of the benefits of the freedom trail, not anymore.
There are some nice places to eat, The Pear Tree which is up near Tesco. The oriental express Chinese buffet, a carvery, a fish and chip shop just around the corner from the site ( sea lane fisheries) which are very nice.

Great site but to EXPENSIVE.
Big pitch site and clean shower blocks.
Good theme park, pubs and supermarket close by.
Excellent children's entertainment and the on site club with all my childhood favs Rory Tiger and co.
Beach 5 mins walk but takes a lot longer to reach the sea when tides out. Great swimming pool with slides.
The local town is small with a few amusements, shops and pubs but not much else.

We visited this park for a week on 25th May 2013, my husband, myself and our 5 year old daughter.
We stayed on a Euro Pitch.
You choose your own pitch on arrival, the pitch we stayed on was very good with a gravel area for Awning. It was quiet and no noise late at night.
It rained all night for one of our stays but our pitch remained dry, however a few pitches did get some large puddles.
The shower and toilet facilities were good, requiring a key for entrance, £10 refundable deposit.
The site shop was very well stocked with food, drinks, magazines, toys, little on site fresh bakery with things like cheese burgers, sausage rolls, steak bakes etc, one of the best on site shops we have visited, which was open until 10pm every day. Tesco a short ride away from site for a larger shop.
Haven Funworks (entertainment area) was good with plenty of 2p machines, games for winning tickets, food outlets - pizzas', fish & chips, Burger King etc. In the cafe area there is a small soft play area for young children, however there did always seem to be bigger children on this also, a little annoying when it is only for small children. The nightly entertainment was very much based around children, not really something for adults as such.
Cleethorpes is a lovely area, very clean and plenty of things to see and do for a week.
Trawlerman pub did a lovely carvery at cheap prices and the Oriental Express was really lovely and very cheap, we visited this twice, did lots of Chinese food and also some Indian Cuuries, very nice considering I do not really like buffet style restaurants, would highly recommend a visit, was always busy but we never had a long wait. The steam train at Cleethorpes is well worth a ride, a miniature version of the real thing. Would recommend taking bikes as there is a lovely ride along the beach.
There is also a Cinema, bowling alley and soft play area within walking distance from the site.
All in all, a lovely site, but we may stay somewhere without the expense that comes with Haven next time we visit Cleethorpes, as there is so much to do at Cleethorpes we did not really use the Haven facilities that much.

We have just stayed here for a week, 3 caravans. 11 people in total, and we was all under the same impression, brilliant ! we have stayed at blue dolphin and golden sands but this is without doubt the better site by far !
Touring is a 'free for all' by this I mean, you arrive, book in, are shown where the pitches are and then go and find a pitch that you like. We found this to be great as we wanted 3 pitches together, we found two, and one the other side of the small hedge, we backed on to the hard standing fully serviced pitch, which they all are, so we was all together.
Toilet block was clean and tidy ish, by this I mean in 2-3 years time the will look old and tired. However at this present time they are more than acceptable they are cleaned daily, they are warm, there is hot water, and I never had to wait to use either the toilet or showers.
(just been reminded, thank you wife, we would of preferred to be given 2 keys for the toilet block. One for the gents and one for the womens)
There is beach access on site it took us 3 mins from our caravan which was great and from the touring site, the main complex was only 5 min walk away.
During our stay we used most of the facilities on site which are all run very well, we had a gentle walk along the sea front promenade to cleethorpes, with pram, it takes around 40mins nice flat tarmac all the way no roads to cross great and safe for the kids.
We have travelled all over the uk (and a bit of Scotland) and we are very impressed with this site if your stay is as good as ours you will love it and will want to return, are only downside was we only booked 1 week.

We have just had a great week here. I said I would never do a Haven holiday again as we had previously stayed in their statics and always seemed to have a bad experience however this time we went in our own motorhome and had a lovely week.
The touring area is situated at the park entrance, not great as this area doesn't have a barrier after 8pm like the rest of the park so can feel a bit vulnerable. It is however close to all the main park amenities including the complex and spar shop.
They operate a select your own pitch which you do on arrival which sounds great but we tried to request a pitch near the toilets as I had broken my foot and it seems this isn't possible, you just have to see what's available when you get there. Fortunately it worked out for us and we got a suitable pitch but could be an issue if really booked up.
As always plenty for children to do, the pool area is excellent and the park is lovely and clean. We never normally eat on site but had a takeaway pizza delivered to our motorhome and fish and chips, both were excellent.
If you are leaving the park there is a bus into Cleethorpes from within the park every 30mins so really easy to get into town and just two minutes out of the park is a carvery which is only £3. 89 each and delicious although very busy.
Pleasure Island theme park is just next door. Someone gave us some half price tickets to go in so be cheeky and ask round as not worth the full price. Mcormicks at entrance to theme park is a fab family pub if you fancy a change. Tesco and Morrisons not too far.
Oh yes all important toilet blocks. These are adequate. Warm water always, could do with a really good clean but other than that I would rate them as not bad.
Finally as always the staff could do with some training in friendliness and customer interaction but I have experienced much worse.

Stayed here for a week just after half term and paid £16. 50 a night for four of us including EHU and entertainment passes. It was quiet when we arrived and we chose a pitch at the end of the electric field near the toilet block. It had been raining heavily and there was a fair bit of standing water and some bare patches where the grass had worn away but we have seen worse!
There are signs up saying no ball games around the tents and caravans which is a good thing and there is a football pitch at the main complex and plenty of beach close by to play on.
Access to the toilet block is with a key for which you pay a £10 deposit. The locks need attention and we struggled to open the door at times which isnt great. We saw others having the same problem but your key does fit all the toilet blocks on site. Toilets and showers were clean, plenty of hot water and the push button showers ran for ages. Only two showers in the toilet block we used though which doesn't seem much for the area it covered.
The main complex is close by and is standard Haven stuff, swimming, crazy golf, amusements, climbing wall and zip wire etc. All great for the kids but be aware that some activities are expensive and it adds up. Our kids did the Waterwalkers (£5 each) and adventure golf £14 for a family. We also hired a family kart to bike around the site which was £10 for an hour.
Off site we went to Pleasure Island which was OK, glad we used our Tesco Vouchers. A short walk from the camping area is a miniature railway which takes you part way into Cleethorpes and costs £12 return for a family of four. If you don't want to walk the rest of the way there is a land train for a £1 each. Cleethorpe beach and promenade is nice but the town is a bit run down like many British seaside resorts. Haven describes Cleethorpe as a stroll away but it is about 2. 5 miles, although a nice walk in fine weather.
There is a huge Tesco 10 minutes drive away where you would get just about anything you needed. The Spar on site is OK for basics but as you would expect quite expensive.
At 8pm every evening access by car is restricted by barriers which are manned by burly security guards. In one sense this is reassuring but you do wonder why such tight security is necessary! Its good to have an out of hours number for the security though, one thing I do like about Haven.
All in all a good site for families and I would go again off season on a cheap deal. I can imagine the site feels very different when it is full though and the non-electric area isnt huge - I bet they pack them in!
Oh and one final mention for the staff. Polite, friendly and helpful without exception. When we handed our toilet key in they asked if we had enjoyed ourselves and they genuinely seemed to care that everything had been OK for us.

We went to Thorpe Park mid May just before the mini heatwave with six other camping families. The site is much better than Golden Sands in Mablethorpe. We got a deal off Haven website for about £40 for three nights which enables you to use all the facilities on site.
The swimming pool is good and the outdoor slides are excellent, especially the bowl, probably the best slide I've been on and I've been to water parks in Ibiza / Tenerife / Benidorm etc. The only problem was that is was 9C and a freezing North Easterly wind coming off the North Sea.
The bar and entertainment are good and the whole site complex is massive so we only just touched the surface.
Nearby there is a decent carvery and all you can eat chinese buffet. On the Saturday we went into Cleethorpes to Steels Corner House Fish and Chip Restaurant with all the gang, 32 in all (I did book well in advance) which was quality.
On the Monday as we were leaving we had a meal at the carvery across the road which was nice and that is when we first saw the sun. It would have been better going the following week but that would have meant missing the Test Match at Trent Bridge, so maybe not!
On the whole a fantastic site although you need to get deals early summer or autumn as prices in July and August, especially in the holidays are extortionate.

We have been going to this Haven site for quite a number of years and each year the tent pitches are getting worse, when it rains it turns to mud as the maintenance of the pitches is poor. It does not help when caravans are allowed to use the grass pitches because if it is wet the weight of the van churns up the ground, there should be made to use the hard standings, and the wardens should monitor this closely.
I have been told that the manager is leaving this year when I complained about the state of he pitches and they did say that someone has looked at them, there is a large bag of gravel for you to use, but it is not suitable for the tents as it damages the ground sheet. Lets hope the new manager does something about the state of the pitches,
We will visit before booking next time to see if anything has been done. Just glad we didn't take the dog this time as it would have had mud boots.
Food is a reasonably priced in the cafe bar. But just off site is a couple of Marstons pubs, 2 for 1 meals and a buffet meal. Excellent.
