We booked a last minute non reserved pitch via the freephone number. Very friendly and helpful staff. We arrived much earlier than we expected and didn't have to wait for our pitch as there were plenty to choose from. The non reserved pitches appeared to be much less crammed in than the reserved ones and were a really good size. The only downside was they were much further away from the beach and pool which defeated the object of being close enough to not need the car when we most definitely did with all our surfboards and usual bits and bobs you need to lug with you. The beach was beautiful and we were blessed with an amazing week of sunshine. But be prepared to hike back up the sand dunes to your car. Its a heck of a trek which you're oblivious to on your way down as you're taking in the fantastic scenery.

The showers and toilets were filthy. I've seen much better on other sites and cant understand why they don't leave a mop and bucket + squeejy for campers to clean up after themselves. Luckily it hadn't rained so there was minimal mud and grass but I dread to think how bad it would've been had it been bad weather. The shower floors were really dirty and I watched a cleaner come in without a mop just a squeejy and drag it along the floor. It really needed a good bleaching and scrub not a quick swipe. On a positive side the showers were free and lovely and warm.

The food was very nice and drinks were reasonably priced (takeaway pasties were delicious). The kids were happy to receive free internet in the beach bar and the views from there were spectacular. The clubhouse entertainment was pretty poor. If you like to sit and play bingo for an hour and a half every night then great. But incredibly boring for anyone not taking part. We watched a couple of acts while we were there. Both pretty cringeable and the audience made it quite obvious they weren't participating. Very few claps and cheers. Bit embarrassing really.

The shop on site was handy and apart from one day having no bread was pretty well stocked. Food and drink seemed a bit expensive but we did buy a windbreak which we thought was very reasonably priced.

There was a security guard in the clubhouse and patrolling all night long. Very impressed that the noise from the club stopped before 12 and we didn’t experience any trouble or noise from any of the fellow campers.

We only used the swimming pool once and the kids (13 and 9) were bored pretty quickly unfortunately. We wouldn’t book the site again as we didn’t really use the facilities as much as we’d hoped. To be cost effective you need to spend more time on site and with the weather being so good we were happier to be out and about.

First time visit to this site. Was a bit disappointed after a long journey too be told that the holding field was full and that we could try the layby up the road and come back in a hr. Luckily there was just enough room to fit a 4x4 with 8m of caravan on the back in. Having said that 15min later a guy in a yellow jacket came running down the road and said it was all clear now to come on up so I took back most the words that had turned the air blue 15 mins earlier and was soon on our pitch. The site itself seemed very tidy and we were near a shower block that was clean and ok plenty of hot water. The site is very big and quite spread out a friend that came later that night was a good 10 min walk away from us and you can't book pitches next to each other. The beach is very nice and with lovely views the kids loved it. I'd read on other review about the steep walk down to it. And there spot on with how steep it is when you walk back up! so I wont complain as I new about it before I booked !. Shop and take away seemed ok normal sort stuff and prices. The club house is a bit on the small side compared to the size of the site and the fact that the club house and the other bars are two different side of the site don't help. The entertainment was very poor even those luckily enough to find a table and seats left! before it finished we only went two time but others said it was the same all week. Love Cornwall and there's plenty of nice places to visit and the location made it very good for that. It's a shame but the fact you pay good money for stuff on the site like the club house and entertainment makes it a place that I wont return too !

We stayed here in July this year. We had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday, and found the pitch good. We couldn't see the sea from where we were, but as you strolled around the site you could. I was a little concerned there wouldn't be enough showers (only 3 in our closest block), but I only had to wait once. I was surprised there was no mop to clean the shower after you had finished (like you normally have), so sometimes it was sandy/muddy when you went in, so that wasn't great. Washing up facilities could be larger and improved but adequate. The swimming pool on site is good. We didn't use any of the on site catering, but the on site shop was well stocked. We would go back, the swimming pool, proximity to the beach, and general location (I really like Gwithian/Hayle).

We have just returned from a week and are over the moon at this site. I have been on many Cornish holidays and have found this site to be up there with the best of them, so much so we are going back for two weeks next year.

The shop is well stocked and reasonably priced (and with a LIDL and CO-OP near by this probably helps to keep the costs down)

The club was great every night - we normally only go in once or twice, we ended up in there every night.

The showers/toilet block were immaculate and always being cleaned - a credit to the site

Bay Bistro is a great chilled out place - warning however, 6oz burger is ample size for most human beings (and it was delicious and reasonably priced) however we ordered 12oz and it was too big (and over faced us all!)

Swimming pool - also very good, used it twice.

Can't wait to go again!

Hi all, after spending a week in a very picturesque part of the country (and cracking weather to boot) it is time to review the site!

As this was my first time so far down into Cornwall my first mistake/observation is that the site is not in St Ives but 8 mile away in the same bay, my error but don't let that worry you as there is a very good bus service near by.

For the uninitiated to this site when you have paid for your break and get your conformation you will notice that it says that pitching time is 4pm on arrival day, a bit late but go early and you can pitch from 10AM if your pitch is empty. It should be as if you read the documentation properly it also says that you have to be off site by 9AM on departure date! A rule made up by somebody who has never done family camping, to back this up in the 'rule book' there is a £25 per hour charge if you are not gone for 10AM! (rule 16).

On entry to the site (we got there early) we found the staff to be helpful although rushed and after a touch of confusion were told that we could go and pitch straight away, must note that the pitch size was superb as we had plenty of space for our vango maritsa 700. The site appears to be left pretty much to 'natural beauty' and this is a good thing as the bay is spectacular.

As for facilities, the swimming pool is a good size but with only 9 communal changing cubicles and 40 lockers (some have got keys to lock them) there is not much room! This is situated next to the 'Bay Bistro', which is a nice space but the food is over priced for what you get but we found it not to be very nice either (we were not alone as there were plenty of hardly touched plates about, a warning sign to look out for)! Drink's were also expensive at £5.25 for a pint and a half but the adult's only bar is comfortable, outside from this is a play area (pretty decent) and external decking which overlooks the sea. We were pitched next to toilet block 2 which although kept reasonably clean all week is only useful for the urinals! The showers are not controlled temp so you get what comes and there is no space to keep your clothes dry and even had to queue every day for a shower (after the first shower you realise why people go to shower in minimal clothing)! The other bar near the entrance is good if you like bingo but the entertainment leaves a lot to be desired (personal choice). There is a speed limit on site (15 mph) but not really kept to by most so watch the roadways.

The town of Hayle is approx 1 mile away and a steady walk, hate to say it but in need of some TLC but some excellent eateries and bars with a very good children's area also.

Having explored the area quite a lot there are plenty of thing's to see and do but this site at £32 per night (last week of children's summer holiday) is heavily overpriced for what you get and there are plenty of sites in the area so take a good look, having said that there are people that do keep going back to this site year after year! Conclusion to that is either I am too picky or I go to more sites and see different places?

Would I go back, to the area yes (it is very nice), to the site no sorry but to pricey for my liking (for what you get).

Wanted to do a quick 'splash and dash', non electric, weekend camping trip after school on a Friday in order to pick up a kayak we had just bought.

We stayed at this park many many years ago and to be honest it's not really the sort of place we would normally choose - only because we don't really 'do' the evening entertainment / clubhouse / bar / restaurant thing that one associates with large holiday parks. However we decided we would stay there again this time as it's location on Hayle Beach really is superb and being a big site we knew they would probably be able to fit us in for a couple of nights (you can't book in advance if you're not staying for the minimum number of nights, you just have to take pot luck on arrival).

A friendly chap booked us in and showed us on a map where we could pitch. We were told to take our pick within these areas. We chose a fab pitch right at the bottom of the park behind the sand dunes, with instant access onto the beach - we could not have got better and to be honest it didn't feel like we were on a large park at all.

The showers and toilets were spotless and all the staff that we saw were very friendly and helpful. And lo and behold we did actually use the bar that is down by the beach (shock, horror!) After a beautiful evening walk it really was great to be able to see the fabulous sunset with a drink in hand whilst the kids played on the play equipment.

Didn't use the shop on site but other campers seemed happy with the range of goods and prices. My kids certainly enjoyed spending their pocket money in there and didn't appear to get ripped off - lady in the shop even told my daughter that if the snorkel and mask didn't work to bring it back!

Dogs aren't allowed on site and as a non-dog owner, that suited me just fine.

Best of all the prices were probably the cheapest we've paid for a long time (admittedly we normally have hook up. ) but the price per night included 4 adults and kids under 10 were free - bargain! So all in all, I think we may actually return for all the right reasons!

Oh and there is a small indoor pool - ideal for the normal British weather - that we certainly didn't need to use during this mad heatwave!

We asked for non-bookable plots on bottom field, but they said it was closed due to flooding, I drove on and off with a twin wheeler and made no marks on the grass. The plot they put us on was too small for a twin wheeler with awning, they did offer to put us on another plot but I was already set up. I would think twice about going again, which is a shame as it has been a good site. My advice to st-ives bay is if your field is flooded, ring the people booked in and give them the chance to go elsewhere with theire money back. The site itself is very good and worth going to, don't let my rant put you off, I just think this time they got it wrong by not keeping the customer informed of their problems. The reason the overall rating is so low is customer service.

Just returned from our 2 week stay in St Ives Bay, wow what a lovely site like all the other reviews below

Just a couple of things I would like to add

Service pitches may be stopping in 2013, was chatting to reception and they mentioned that they will not be continuing with any serviced pitches

Toilets was always clean even though you got a lot of people washing there wetsuits in the showers rather than the taps outside which is clearly labelled.

Dynamite Club - Entertainment was pretty good during our stay and even better that there was a children's room for disco and other activities for my daughters (7 & 3) so we could play the bingo, pretty decent money we won £150 one night, beware the doors open at 7pm but you will not find a seat, we or I queued from 6:30ish and easily found a table.

Supermarket in Hayle is Lidl but there is a Tesco in Carbis Bay about 10 mins around Hayle.

Parking in St Ives after 9am is joke all car parks are full after 9am, there is a park and ride (Train) which other campers told me they used which was a little expensive with a big family

The beaches on the site are lovely and clean but the climb back up to the beach car park with all your kit is a bit hard going

Had a week here during the summer holidays.

It didn't feel overcrowded at all, the facilities were well maintained and we never had to queue for them.

Was ideally located for local places to visit like St Ives, to which we caught the train. Cheap to park and the train fares were cheap too.

Entertainment was pretty good. Great for the kids. Some of the adult entertainment was a bit poor though. Getting a table in the club house could prove difficult if you don't get there early enough.

The beach is pretty close depending where you are on the site. But it is not easily accessible. If you have trouble walking you will really struggle.

All in all a good family site which I would certainly revisit.

First time here and here goes.

Arrived at half ten at night wanting to get into the holding area, (gate shut) spoke to guy at the gate house who said my pitch was free so go straight on and gave a good clear map as to where to go, top bloke never even charged me,

Once found pitch I was a little disappointed as the pitch was tight to get on and not as big as I was told, I own a hobby 700 and a 3mtr deep awning which made things very tight and the back of my van was in the hedge, however as there was no one pitched to one side I was able to use this space for car etc,

all the other pitches and occupants were great and very very friendly as were all the staff and this is a very big strong point.

Sands bar very nice however did arrive for a lunch time pint to be greeted by a member of staff who has a hang over from hell and even struckled to pull a pint, shame this bar is only open from 12. 00 till 14. 00 as I found that during the day there's nowhere to go for a good pint and chill out.

Food.

Again all good for what I had however my wife had to take 3 jacket potatoes back to be re heated as stone cold in middle, but other than that all good (please cut down the amount of chips )

Club.

Price wise great and very good selection, however we found the entertainment a little poor to be honest, ok but not great, out of the week there was only 2 real acts we liked, bingo good fun but you have to be at the club in a queue for half six to get a table. If not go back at half eight when some leave.

All in all a great place great beach with stunning views and as a lot have said does not feel as big as it really is.
