I was a bit dubious about booking this site, purely because of the inflated price I was paying for a sea view. But WOW, it was worth every penny. We stayed in a Mirage caravan which was situated high up, near to the beach.

The view we had from the caravan was stunning, Godrevy lighthouse in one direction and a fabulous sunset in the other. The caravan was clean and comfortable, although I think for the price charged they could have kitted it out better ie nasty gas kettle that was too dangerous to use so we bought a cheap electric one at Trego Mills in Falmouth. There was no cheese grater, no small bowl to microwave anything in, and no jug to make gravy or custard etc. Other than that I can't fault it.

Booking in was quick and simple, the staff very happy and polite.

Security was excellent, with barriers in and out of the site, and foot patrols all night.

The camping areas were quiet, being early season, but from what we saw it all looked clean and well tended, although some of the pitches did look a little cramped. There were larger pitches, but I imagine you have to get there early to get them.

The beach is a long way down, and funnily enough twice as high to get back up! I did have to stop and catch my breath a couple of times, but it was well worth it, absolutely stunning and safe for kids.

Didn't use the clubhouse so can't comment, but seemed popular and had security on the door.

Shop very well stocked and most things reasonable enough if you really didn't fancy leaving the site to shop.

The pool is lovely and clean, and has the advantage of some outdoor sunbeds to stretch out and relax.

The bar at the beach end is very nice, with a great veranda to sit out and watch the sun go down.

We refused to buy food from The Bay Bistro purely on price. We saw the portions being dished up, and there is definitely No value for money. We did find a brilliant chippy in Hayle, just opposite the co-op, called Don's Plaice, excellent food, real value for money, and the loveliest staff.

As mentioned, in Hayle there is a co-op, which also has a cashpoint outside (no charges), and there is a lidl, post office, banks, etc. There is also a Tesco at Carbis, 10 minute drive.

All in all, I really enjoyed myself, and St Ives Bay is an idea location, both for facilities on site, and the locality, with easy access to the A30. Will be returning.

Great site, fantastic beach, great fun.

Stayed in a Sunday to Sunday, EHU pitch. Have a large Khyam tent, which stood up to the wind no bother. It is a windy site when it is windy but hey, we live in the UK and this is right on the coast. No complaints there.

The pitch was big enough, not to squeeze the car onto as well but there are bigger pitches around.

The beach is superb and the kids (15,11 & 8) all had a great time in the surf. Our surfing was done just along from the campsite at Godrevy. We used the local surf school (on the campsite) and again the kids all had a great time, all managing to stand up and surf in that period. Hooked for sure.

The shop on site is stocked enough with what you need. Ice packs are supplied for coolboxes requiring a refundable deposit and costing 50p to refreeze. A nice service.

Camping gaz cylinder at reception, other brands available.

Toilets and showers were fine, clean and for the girls have a couple of electric points available. The showers were running cold at one point but by informing the staff, the strainer was cleaned and the showers back on hot. In my opinion the showers were very good both with a bit of power and heat.

We did not use the pool so cannot comment, we did use the beach every day (even the rainy ones) and it was great. The bar was used a couple of times in the evening to watch the sunset, the balcony is a great vantage point for that.

Seagulls will be seagulls so don’t leave food outside. They had my morning muffins at about 4am, and as for rabbits, it’s a campsite, it’s outdoors, it’s in the sand dunes, off course there are rabbits.

I’d imagine that the site gets busy during peak season. We did not use the site for activities, it was a base for everywhere else. St Ives itself is fantastic, very scenic the girls all loved the loads of little shops. Lands end for the photo, anywhere you want for a pasty. We travelled to Padstow to the Rick Stein thing and again, what a lovely place. Newquay was not such a hit, it was a really nice place, scenic and surfy but also full of hen and stag and leaving parties. Great if that’s your thing?

There really is a load of places to go and things to do, we have not scratched the surface and will be back to do the same again. When we come back it is more than likely that we will stay at the same site, St Ives Bay.

PS Rates were cheap as chips too.

Wonderful site - but, as many have said before can be very windy so invest in long tent pegs as the 'soil' is very sandy. Facilities were all ok - clean toilet / shower blocks etc. Good laundry facilities with lots of washers and driers, but very busy. Staff were always happy to help if we had a query. Social club was like a step back in time, really not my taste . But ok for a quick beer. Great beaches, though it can be quite a walk from parts of the site - there is a beach carpark, for site residents only, but it gets full quickly on good days.

Kids loved the onsite surfing school and also the small Skate/BMX park in the town (just at the bottom of the road leading up to the park). If, like me, you have avid teenage BMX / Mountain bikers who love doing tricks and riding tracks then here are also 2 other BMX / Mountain Bike centres not too far away - 'The Track' is an outdoor facility with various tracks and jumps including a large foam pit (when we were there in 2007 - they have developed the site massively since then). Mount Hawke is an indoor facility catering for Skaters and BMX / Mountain bikers. Both sites are suitable for experienced riders more than novices.

Of course all this is in Cornwall . Enough said!

Another trip to the fantastic St Ives Bay Holiday Park, although a very windy 2 weeks and our awning collapsed during a very stormy day. It was good to see the changing rooms have been improved immensely (new building), apart from being no toilet paper and the life guards not being able to locate any. Another plus is the new pot washing facilities near the Sunday pitches, we look forward to improvements in the Shower block near the Sunday pitches (hopefully). All in all though the weather was very mixed we still had a great holiday and in my opinion the best beach and view from the Decking area you will ever get.

Just got back from 2 weeks here. Weather was pretty appalling (typical summer weather!)but we still enjoyed ourselves.

This is a large holiday park in the Towans (sand dunes) on the lovely Hayle/Gwithian beach which is a huge sandy beach with views across to St Ives. Now we prefer the quiet sites and CL's but chose this one this year because of the terrible summer weather we've experienced in previous summers and I'm glad we did because it certainly kept the kids happy with its indoor pool (could do with being larger with a few slides) and kids entertainment. I think if you go to a site like this at its busiest time of year you have to expect that at times the bar, pool etc will be very busy, there will be lots of children running around, and there will be a bit of noise in the evenings, but overall this was not as bad as we thought it would be. All the kids seemed well behaved, the noise never went late into the night (usually it was quiet by 11.00 - 11.30pm), there were regular patrols by staff/wardens, and it never seemed to get too overcrowded in the pool/bar etc. The site was clean and tidy and the toilets and showers were regularly cleaned which is all you can expect really.

The main negative point for us was the size of the majority of pitches which were just about large enough to get everything on but with no space between the pitches so you really do feel crammed in. (Some families/groups couldn't squeeze everything on and we noticed quite a few had encroached into their neighbours pitch) We were in the main EHU field to the right near the entrance and on several occasions it would have been impossible for any large vehicle (such as a fire tender) navigate through to the back of the field because of the number of vehicles parked partly on their pitch and partly on the access road. Also there are no safe grassy areas for the kids to play. The only 2 play areas are outside the Dynamite club (sandwiched between a fork in the main site road), and down at the bottom of the site near the beach and the Bay Bistro bar. Because of this, at times, there were a lot of children running/riding around the caravans/tents/cars essentially because they had nowhere else to play unless of course they ventured out of sight on to the sand dunes. A couple of times I had to warn off children who were on their bikes riding around the back of our car and caravan where there really wasn't the room.

So if you don't mind a bit of a squeeze at peak times, the lack of safe areas for the kids to play, and can put up with the 'hustle and bustle' of a large busy holiday park you wont go wrong with this site which really is in a superb beachside location in a beautiful part of Cornwall.

Helpful tips. There is a Lidl just down the road. A Co-op just as you go into Hayle. A small retail park just down the road off the A30 with Next, M & S, Boots. There's a Surf school on site (£20 for a beginners lesson for 2 hours or so) that also does wetsuit and surfboard hire. Use the train park & ride from Lelant if you intend to visit St Ives. This cost us £8 return for 2 adults, 3 kids (one under 6 though - they go free) and is a lovely scenic journey that takes you right into St Ives.

Just returned from this site stayed for a week on a reserved pitch with electrical hook up. We have a kyham Ontario tent approx 24 x 12 feet tunnel tent. The pitch fitted our tent on it easily with room to spare for parking our trailer car & storing bikes. There are plenty of toilet/shower blocks on site which were always clean & site was full, saying that sometimes sand on floor in shower but you are staying next to a beach. While we were there weather was foul with strong winds some tents did suffer some damage but we were lucky. The site itself is very large & on many levels built on sand dunes, 1/2 mile from our pitch to main entrance. The beach access is in my opinion only for able bodied if you drive from your pitch & park on car park you still have to walk 200m down a steep sand slope to the beach. Once on the beach it is great for surfing body boarding with life guards on duty. Did not see anybody manage to walk back up without stopping though. The pool is good but in bad weather was quite busy had 2 lifeguards on duty. There is a conservatory with good sea views & the food is good value for money. In the evenings there was entertainment in 2 venues & a quieter family room next to amusement arcade. Overall we found the park to be well maintained value for money & would go back.

Just back from 1 week at this campsite. Overall, having paid £119 including ehu for 2 adults & 2 children I cannot really complain. We found all staff very receptive, the toilet block we used in the main ehu field was spotless. However, with the current credit crunch there were only 9 units using a massive field so toilet block would be spotless spose. Indoor pool was warm with very clean changing areas. As usual the pool is nowhere near large enough when at peak/high season so be warned. The shop was adequately stocked and reasonably priced. Nice change there.

The club-house was clean and modern, caters for 800 which was why it was only half full during our week in late June. Wouldnt like to use it in high season though. Very useful separate kids room which entertained children from approx aged 4-12 from 7.30pm till 10.00pm. Downside to club-house = £3.05 for pint of Fosters, so drinks are steep. J20 was £2.05. Get your kids to buy cans down in amusement room @ 80p. Nice play area near clubhouse with sand floor for smaller children.

Entertainers okay, most during week were singers with backing tracks only. Not a lot of variation.

The pitches were full of rabbit droppings and holes in them, plus with site next to the beach the ground was quite sandy which did not help securing pegs in the ground. Also, pitches were marked out only by wooden blocks and all the pitches on our field were pretty small. We again would hate to pitch during high season. Packed in like sardines comes to mind. Very windy during our week, we had to move to a more sheltered area for our large dome tent. Be warned, this site is on the Atlantic coast and dont you know it.

There is a LIDL store within 800 yards of this campsite with a large Co-op half a mile enroute to Hayle town centre. Also, very handy is a Brewers Fayre just beyond the Lidl store which gets packed very easily so pre-book.

Have returned to this site several times for family holidays. Although large, with the way it is set amongst the sand dunes, it doesn't feel that way. The walk over the dunes to the beach is well worth it and the beach is so big it never feels too crowded. There are Lifeguards on the beach during the day. Dusk/night fishing off the beach - excellent for bass.
The bathrooms are kept very clean with hot showers and there are several blocks dotted around the camp. There is a well stocked shop and on site entertainment (bar/kids disco) for when the weather is not as you'd wish for.
The pool is great - divided so there is a smaller, shallower area for younger children. There is also a snack bar in the attached conservatory.
Close by supermarkets and shops make buying the daily supplies easy. Out and about there are plenty of towns and coves to visit. St Ives is approx. 6/7 miles away but is very busy in the main holiday season.
Competitively priced with generously sized pitches. Would highly recommend this site. Booking is essential in main season.

I have stayed at this camp site for the last four years and will be going back again this year. The caravans are always clean and tidy. The reception area staff are welcoming and cheerful. The site is well laid out and security is second to none. The swimming pool is always clean and lifeguards are helpful. The park is suituated just off the A30 and in my opinion is just right for touring Cornwall. A big thank you to all the staff and look forward to seeing you first week in June.

We had stayed here for 2 years running in their static caravans, so when we bought our first trailer tent we decided to camp here too. Lovely large site with amazing sunsets.
To sit overlooking the sea with a pint/glass of wine while the children play on 1 of the 2 play areas is a dream. The facilities are good although there is a light holiday camp feel to the pool, take away, bar areas - but for families with young children or older couples out of season it fits the purpose. Only downside is the walk down to the beach - or rather the walk back up!
