Last year we had a fantastic time in Dorset and didn't think we could do better, but from start to finish, we had the most amazing time.

Prior to arrival we received a letter reminding us about the size of the pitch and I have to admit I was a little apprehensive as to whether our tent and car would fit, but we had room to spare. We were allowed to choose our pitch and had plenty of choice. The pitch opposite housed a caravan, awning plus car and still had enough space to set up a badminton net. So that shoould give you a better idea of pitch size.

The toilets and showers were always clean and we never had to queue. Each hookup had it's own light, so even at night, there was always enough light for guidance without having to totally rely on the torch.

We loved the pool and because of the lovely weather and close proximity of the beach it wasn't very crowded. And the beach is fantastic! The fact that lifeguards were very visible at the waters edge helped reassure me that there was not just me watching my girls as they tried body boarding for the first time.

We didn't really use the clubs except to watch the Olympics opening ceremony, so I can't really comment.

Hayle town centre is only five minutes away - (Lidl and Co-op, Boots, M&S) and the A30 is nearby.

Of course the fact that we were blessed with some of the warmest days of summer helped, but honestly, this campsite has everything you need and more. It's location makes it ideal for exploring Cornwall or just chilling.

Can't wait to return.

We arrived on saturday 30th june and checked in quite as it is out of season. Found the gentleman at the gate very helpful as he advised us that the pitches we had booked number 61 was on a high elevation and could be a bit breazy, we did have a look and decided to camp lower down changed with no hassle.

The pitches are really marked out well with fire breaks between each pitch. The toilets and showers were spotless as was the site.

What I really liked you felt you was camping in a remote location and not part of a large site due to the statics and the chalets separated.

We did go to the clubhouse and found the prices reasonable as was the shop.

We did explore the sand dunes and the local beach which was stunning and there are some abandoned buildings in the dunes which were linked to an old dynamite works.

Overall will rate this camp site as one of the best we have been to

Just got back from a stay at St Ives Bay. After having read all the reviews on this site, I decided for my second ever camping trip to book one of the EHU pitches with a sea view for two weeks.

When we arrived, the initial impression was very good, the staff were very friendly, and the sun was shining. I've no doubt that if the weather had stayed that way, we would have enjoyed our holiday, but on day 2, the weather turned, the winds started gusting and about a week in, the 40mph winds started.

The pitch itself was large enough for my Outwell Nevada M with front extension, and there were several large tents (Hartford XLs and others of similar size and shape) that just about squeezed onto neighbouring pitches. However this may sound like a cliché, but size is not everything.

The pitches were perched on a reasonably level, but totally exposed location. When the wind changed direction every single day, N, E, S, W and every direction between, there was not a single day of respite, with the only shelter being provided by my car.

In terms of other facilities, there were two toilet blocks within a short walk. The block between the 400 and 800 pitches had much better showers, as the shower heads were mounted to the ceiling, rather than the walls and for Gents, the toilets there were better too, as they had proper urinals, rather than a floor-level tray, which always results in a mess.

My wife informed me that the toilet block between the 400s and 600s was better for women, as there were more toilets there and the layout is arguably slightly better, with toilets in a separate room to the showers. The launderette was reasonably pricey, at £4 a wash (£3. 50 if using your own powder) and 20p for 3mins drying, £1 for 15 mins drying, but it was spacious, with plenty of room.

The site itself is reasonably child-friendly, as there are arcade rooms and play areas at the Reception building and the main Sands bar.

There were also pool tables, air hockey, table tennis, a heated swimming pool and a movie room for kids at the latter. I couldn't help get the feeling that they might be better off having a kids indoor play centre, rather than a swimming pool though, as it was always packed, so no-one could ever do any swimming in it anyway.

Areas around the pitches were not particularly safe for younger children, due to the exposed location and how there were no tall fences or hedges to prevent kids from kicking balls / throwing frisbees etc into unsafe areas with steep dunes and nettles, so careful adult supervision is needed.

The Sands bar is also the location of the main restaurant and it has some wonderful sea views. If you want to eat there, the best night is Friday night, as it is steak night - the steak was cooked just right for me, and the chips are pretty good too.

I would recommend avoiding the burgers however, as any frozen burger you can buy from the nearby Co-Op superstore and cook yourself are both better and cheaper.

There are plenty of shops within a short drive of the site, with the small town of Hayle barely a couple of minutes away. Philps pasties was a good place to go for pasties and you can see them being made, although they do not sell many varieties. We went there at 8.30 for opening time and the pasties we purchased stayed hot until midday. If you like chicken pasties, best to go there after 11am, as they are not available until then. Other shops nearby include Lidl, M&S, Next, Boots, Costa Coffee, McDonalds and a Brewers Fayre.

The real highlight of the site, is it's location next to the beach. Yes, it can take some walking to get there, but it is worth it so that you don't need to travel back in a car with all your sandy items. The beach itself is huge (3 miles long I think), and the tide goes out a long way.

There are no rocks nearby, just lots of sand. There are also lots of lifeguards along the beach. The walk up the dunes is very steep on the way back and can be difficult if carrying many items, but there are some steps, with the handrail itself being more useful than the steps.

There are also loads of dunes to walk around next to the site. If you enjoy going for a walk, you could literally spend days walking around them.

Unfortunately for me I only had 1 nice day. A week into my holiday, the winds blew my tent down. The staff were helpful enough to help me find a static caravan for 2 nights at minimal extra cost, however on a site this exposed and with the winds being so strong (they eventually got up to around 60-70mph), I believe they really should have closed the pitches to campers and offered refunds (I've heard other sea-side sites do).

Had this been the case, I would probably have returned another year in the hope of getting better weather. Overall, the site is good, however it is definitely a fair-weather site.

We had a really nice time here, camp site has a lot to offer, pitches are of a good size, it seemed to us that to get closer to the beach and a great view you need to ditch your electric hook up, if yor don't want o do that, it's not that far really.

We found that hayle is a really good ten to travel from if you want to visit other places near by?

Lots to do as well.

The shower and toilet block coudn't have been better, at least for us men, the wife says hers could be quite busy with lady's getting ready for a night out at the site club.

The restaurant do some good deals like curry nights and also sell beer for those wanting a drink with there meal but who have kids, as the kids can't go into the bar.

We will be looking to visit again in the near future

The site was well signposted, easy check in and you can choose your own pitch, we choose one near to the showers and toilets etc. Great sized pitch which was level, loads of room for our motorhome, outwell 4 man tent and two pop up tents with room for the kids to still play!

The site has good facilities, the showers were cleaned regular and I never waited for a cubicle. It is a bit of a walk to the beach, however well worth it. The pub on site served good food and the bar was nice, good kids play area.

All my boys played in the sand dunes and had great fun, the kids loved the surf lessons, very friendly and professional service. The shop was very well stocked including loads of stuff for the beach etc.

Great site and would visit again.

We only went here as we couldn't get on our first two choices, but had a great time and would return again, site has chalets statics and seasonal pitches with an area for tourers and tents.

Access is good, a wide road just off main A30, pitches are well marked out, good size with plenty of room for van awning and car yet still a gap between us and the tents either side.

Toilets showers and washing up area, clean tidy with plenty of hot water, toilet blocks closed in rotation each day for cleaning but crews do pop in during day as well.

There was always staff patrolling the site and staff picking up litter too, they where friendly and happy to help if you had a problem.

Site shop is a decent size with a variety of goods at reasonable prices, there is also a burger/fish and chip van open each evening and Saturday morning, off site there are local shops and a supermarket a short drive away.

here is a pool with adult bar and children's area adjacent at top end of site, also in main building there is a family bar with a children's room next door, both have music and entertainment each evening although drink are priced a bit high.

Beach is lovely with RNLI lifeguards, but access is by steep steps or down over the dunes, other beaches with easy access are only a short drive away. Plenty to do in the area for all tastes, from theme parks to cliff walks, so no need for anyone to be bored.

We stayed in July the last week of mid season and felt we got good value for the £147 paid, not sure we would want to pay the high season prices, but that is just us.

All in all we had a good time and although this is not our usual type of site we did say we would be happy to return another time.

Just returned from a fantastic week at this well located campsite.

Firstly lets start by stating that this site is actually in hayle and st ives is to the left of the site about a 10 min drive. The location of the site is brilliant for the beach, but would prove a nightmare for any one with walking difficulties and we saw many a weary dad drag a fully laden pram up the extremely steep ramp leading to the beach - there are steps located by the club house but again very steep.

The site is huge and comprises of chalets, tenting feilds, statics and tourer fields. We originally were to be located on the 900 pitches but thankfully asked to move to the 400 pitches as they had the sea views.

The toilet blocks were fine, sometimes a little dirty in the late evening/early morning - I could only see they were thoroughly cleaned once a day so the sand and grass when returning from beach trips got everywhere. However one block was closed for repairs leaving the other block to accommodate all (much to my disappointment of being woken up by builders hammering at 8am, but of course works have to be done, I thought it would have been better advised to do this during the day when every one would have been off site).

The on site shop was reasonably priced, my partner described it as a tardis, serving all the drinks and food you could need, as well as beach supplies and freshly baked bread. The reception staff were very helpful, and there are 100's of flyers for local attractions.

The beach front club house, was the venue we frequented - ideal for watching the amazing sunsets. This also houses an amusements arcade, indoor pool, pub, and table tennis, foose ball and pool tables. The other night venue we only went to once, while it looked perfectly fine the entertainment just wasn't to our taste but I'm sure for those with older children would have been perfect.

Washing up facilities were exellent, toilet blocks had two hairdryers and plug sockets.

Remember cornwall is now all digital so tv's will only work with a very strong aerial and digital box.

Laundrette had ample machines but a little pricey at £4 a wash and £1 for 15 mins in the dryer. Only open 9am - 9pm so no chance of an early wash before hitting the beach.

I feel this site would have been too busy for us at peak times, school holidays etc, on our last day it appeared many had arrived as the Scottish families hit their holiday season and it did spoil our view some what and it was noticeable the toilet blocks etc were over filled, with quests for the showers, and was generally nosier at night.

It would be my recommendation to get on the 400's pitches for electric hook up and for non electric the pitches directly infront of these for the best views, and to feel away enough from the statics.

The beach is def the best thing about this place, and a short drive up to gwiffian bay proves a easier decent to the beach with toilets and a small cafe which the one directly in front of st ives bay lacks. There are also rock pools ideal for catching crabs etc and the children found this to be their favourite location.

All in all a fab holiday and cornwall certainly provided a superb week, but again I fear you would struggle in a tent here if it did rain frequently.

Just returned from this lovely site, beautiful surroundings.

The arrival time for this site was 4.00pm but as it was late season we thought we would try our luck, after stopping off an St Agnes we arrived at the site at around 2.00pm and were lucky enough to be told that our caravan was ready, number 794, we were almost at the bottom of the site overlooking the sea, the view was breathtaking, St Ives to the left and Goodreavy lighthouse to the right.

The sunsets over StIves in the evening are stunning.

There were only three of us so we booked a Scirroco caravan, lovely condition, very comfortable and clean, heating in all the rooms, just right for the chilly nights this time of year.

The beach is great but be warned, it may be easy to go down to the beach, coming up is is not, had to stop a couple of times to regain some oxygen, but it was worth the walk.

The swimming pool is great, changing rooms were nice and clean, warm showers before entering the pool, as it was late season there were not many people in there so a nice swim was easy.

The Bay Bistro was excellent although being late season it was shut a most of the time, during the times it was open the food was brilliant, a little pricey for the size of the portions but tasted lovely.

There's also a pool table and table tennis table.

An amusement arcade is up the stairs to the back of the bistro and 2 more pool tables behind the sandhopper bar.

There is a change machine in the arcade but if you want money for the pool tables you have to go to the bar as the machines don't give out 50p pieces, which means you have to keep bothering the bar or bistro staff for change.

There is a fantastic chip shop in hayle about three minutes away called Den's Plaice with friendly staff and good sized cod and chips all cooked to perfection.

Wi-fi network is available in the bay bistro and works well, or on a nice evening you can sit out on the patio outside and still use your laptop, my son took his laptop down there quite often and had no problems.

The Sandhopper bar is really done out nice with subdued lighting and cosy, nice views over the bay as you have a tipple or two.

The shop was a bit basic due to late season and over the top on prices, a loaf of bread is more than double the price of Tesco but site shops are always like this, I suppose you pay for the convenience

There is a Lidl only a couple of minutes away in hayle with a good sized carpark, there's also a co-op a little further on which has a cashpoint, nearest Tesco is St Ives but if you need a lot its worth the drive.

The walk round the site is good, the layout is fantastic with all the dunes and hills, a walk to the top of some gives excellent views.

We have been going to Cornwall for a number of years and have stayed in some pretty grim sites, and some excellent sites too, but this has to rate as one of the best.

The location is great for exploring this part of Cornwall, Penzance is only about 15 miles away and Lands End about 20 miles so you don't waste your holiday sitting in your car for hours.

All in all a brilliant holiday site, fantastic views, fantastic places to see, St Ives is a lovely town and if you go down onto the rocks as we did there are seals playing about in the water, with Mousehole, Porthleven, Newlyn, Lands End, St just and many more all within a half hour drive this is the most adorable location, we will definitly be back next year.

What made this site a firm favourite was actually the beach.

We arrived at about 11 am to be told just to pick a spot. Found a lovely corner pitch (quite large) that was covered one side by the dunes. Was about 10 min walk to the beach and as others have said a steep walk back.

Beach was superb. Some waves for the children to do body boarding, life guards on duty and lovely clean sand. Was a bit breezy at time so took the windbreak. The kids also loved playing in the dunes.

The inddor swimming pool at the conservatory was very busy but the children didn't seem to mind. Wifi was free at the conservatory which was also a plus. On wet days the cosnervatory did get very busy and reminded me of an airport waiting room!

Actually didn't go to any of the entertainment so could not comment.

Did have weather warnings of wind and flooding (our tent/pitch was ok) but some pitches did get a bit soggy (especially those near the toilet block).

Toilets and showers were clean on most occasions and there was sometimes a queue for the shower. They did close them for a couple of a hours once per week to staem clean.

Bins were always overflowing and this did encourage seagulls which sometimes made a lot of mess.

Shop was well stocked but as expected a bit pricey.

Laundry was always full and there was again a queue to use the dryers and machines (get there early ie 9am!). Machines cost £3 but incl. Powder, one machine was £2.50 if you took your own. There was also a spinner and free irons.

We spent time at 3 different campsites in cornwall yet this site came out as favourite. Think this was more down to the beach/location more than anything else. It is a HUGE site. Would return though.

Stayed at St Ives Bay 3 years running now, 1st was a last minute as we had a static booked for a week and decided to go down 4 days earlier with the tent. We ended up on the highest part of the site in a non booked area, very windy and the tent got destroyed whilst putting it up. We ended up buying the cheap 4 man tent we have now from Halfords as a replacement, we struggled to put this up until the site staff offered us a more sheltered location, much better and really enjoyed the 4 days under canvas before a week in 'the box'.

2nd year there we spent two weeks in 'the box' which was equally as great and relaxing. This year we managed to get rid of the dogs and kids so decided to go to Cornwall in the tent, didn't book anywhere until the Friday before departure, so after 30 odd phone calls to try and book a site, ended up going back to St Ives Bay on a un -reserved pitch.

We pitched in the same area that we got re-loacted to the first year, knowing this time about the winds.

We picked a corner pitch allowing us a little more space than the 27foot square normal pitches.

Plenty of space for our little 4 man, gazebo and car.

Facilities are always clean and re-stocked with toilet roll, shop is top end pricing, but most of us go prepared for that, plus there is a Lidl just down the road which helps with the essentials.

Beach is divine with plenty of surf and never to far from where you pitch.

Staff are helpful, but this time round we didn't really need to see them for anything. Didn't use the pool this year, but last year, the kids said it was clean, if not a bit busy when the weather wasn't at its best.

Fee's expensive compared to others, but you get what you pay for and if I had actually got my act together I could have got a cheaper site, equally as good, so that's my fault, but its always on my list as a site for last minute arrival as I know they will always generally have a space for a tent or caravan as long as you don't want a hook up or sea view.
