We have just returned home from a lovely sunny bank holiday weekend at St. Neots Camping & Caravan Club site at St. Neots.
If you make a booking at St. Neots direct with the Caravan & Camping Club it allows you to book an 11 meter grass pitch without electric.
We have a tag axle motor home ie. 3 axles, which measures just under 9 meters long, it is totally self-contained with 2 solar panels, so there is no need for us to have electric, so we always book a grass pitch with no electric, as they do not offer any hard standing without electric.
I have been to this site on many many occasions over the last few years and we have always found the staff to be very nice, friendly, and welcoming. However so far this year, 2017, on each time we have booked a grass pitch without electric, on arrival we have always seemed to have a very cold and unwelcoming reception.
In July 2017 as usual, we booked a grass pitch without electric and duly paid a £ 25. 00 deposit. On arrival we were told by reception that we should not have booked a grass pitch for such a large van.
Simon then told us that he does not have anywhere on the site for our van, due to its size. We explained that having a tag axle means that the weight is spread over 3 axles rather than 2 axles which is better as it is less weight per square inch of tyre area, but I think it fell on deaf ears.
Having waited for some time for him to look at his bookings, and being made to feel that there was nowhere for us, we were just about to ask for our money back, ie. £95. 00 and go home, when he under duress offered me a very ‘un-level’ patch of grass (Not a proper numbered pitch) next to the toilet & shower block, which we duly accepted, because we had planned to meet a few of our friends.
WARNING !
If you have a tag axle motorhome and you want to book a grass pitch ‘without electric’ you will be given a very unwelcoming reception from a certain member of staff, Simon.
It is a pity that Simon is not so strict on the size of the tents, some tents were nearly the size of marques, a lot bigger than our motor home, of which I have a photo’s to prove it.
If Simon was a bit stricter on the size of the tents, then maybe there would be more room available for the larger motor home.
Other than that, the site is lovely, positioned next to the river, and St. Neots is a great place to visit.

A beautiful site based by the river. We were in a tourer and other family members were in a tent. We were sited at the front of the river and they were set back in a huge pitch.
Size of pitches were brilliant and the space between them was very comfortable.
The site, overall, locally was very well maintained and Simon was so helpful. The club could, however, benefit in spending a little cash here to upgrade facilities we felt.
The toilet/shower block were clean but could definitely do with a refresh. Good washing up facilities.
All in all a great site and definitely will return.

We stayed over the weekend of the St Neots regatta, as non members it was a bit pricey.
The park is very spacious and the pitches are kept well apart. The staff seemed happy in their work and were very helpful. We went with friends who have a camper and they managed to get us next door at little notice in a full park. Shower block was ok, clean and tidy with plenty of no stop/start hot water. Location for the parks, weir and town centre are also good. We will definitely be returning here.

Very warm welcome, we were shown personally to our pitch, as is everyone. We had grass pitch no electricity close to the river, throughout the day we had sunshine and shade, perfect when it got too hot.
Walked into St Neots beside the river (beware stinging nettles), to the Market, we thought it might be bigger, but still managed to buy a few things, good lunch at Market Sq cafe.
The next day walked to the Riverside Pub, just for a drink a bit expensive but staff friendly and nice setting.
The showers were great, hot and good water pressure, only downer the inside washing up sinks at the riverside block are too low, perhaps they are for children?
Would visit again

I agree with the last review the management have a problem with tag axle vans our van is 7. 8 m long and have been told not to book a grass pitch.
The website will take a booking for any size van on grass. We spend most of the year on grass pitches with no problems I appreciate site can be wet in places but we would not drive on to a pitch which is to soft.
The site is well kept and in a great location with the exception of the problem with larger vans the staff are friendly and helpful.

Lovely site with good team of wardens. We had a great pitch on a hardstanding near the river. Downside was the bins were near the main entrance. Facilities were clean but 3 showers per block seemed inadequate in the mornings
Easy walk into St Neots through beautiful park if you cross the river near the entrance to the campsite
We liked walking in the opposite direction because more open and good birdlife. As dog owners know our dogs loved it too. Pleased to find the Rivermill pub upstream welcomed dogs. Dog water and biscuits plentiful and ate in the back bar with our family and the dogs one evening
Lovely to hear the cuckoos calling

Have stayed at this site many times before, but this is the best it has been. The staff are very helpful and make time to chat to you, the grass is kept short and neat lot's of flowers at entrance. The toilets are spotless. Well done to all the staff.

Lovely site, very friendly staff - in fact everyone we met in town was very friendly! Toilet block a bit dated but perfectly serviceable and very clean with plenty of hot water without the need to press a button in the shower. No rush to get off the site on the day we left, all very relaxed, and even though the site was very full (Easter weekend) it was very quiet and peaceful, a delight. Okay, we did have to queue to get onto the site but I guess outside a bank holiday this wouldn't be an issue and once at the front of the queue the wardens couldn't do enough to help, guiding us to a great pitch and offering any assistance we needed.
A short walk along the river, or through the park, takes you into St Neots where there is plenty of choice in food and drink, plus pubs with live music to entertain if you like that sort of thing. One night we walked the opposite direction from town to the Riverside pub but were very disappointed with the extremely slow service, and the cost wasn't worth the wait or the food. Yes it was edible but certainly not upmarket. There are far better places to eat in St Neots itself.
Can't wait to return and perhaps enjoy 'messing about on the river' ourselves

We loved this site. It is difficult to find but well worth it.
Reception was friendly and informative, we were offered a selection of pitches.
Facilities while old were clean and well look after.
Best of all is that you can just walk from the site onto the fen lands beside the river. Our three dogs loved it.
We only stayed one night as we were on the way 'down' south but would recommend it.

Just returned from 5 nights, having had a great time.
The site is lovely, exactly what we like. Good location to St. Neots, generous sized pitches, as well as clean showers & toilets. The site is very well maintained with flower boxes, and the office sells basic items such as Milk & Eggs.
On arrival we found the staff were very pleasant and very helpful.
The site is on the side of a river which has boats passing throughout the day, which is always nice to see, and just a short walk along the river there is a nice pub, which also serves food.
Just a 10 min walk is St. Neots town centre which has many of the high street shops, including M & S Food & Waitrose and LIDLE, there is also a selection of Pubs, Banks, Restaurants, and much much more. On Thursday, there was a market selling alsorts, and on Saturday there was a Farmers market.
A few mins walk from the site is the Chequers Pub. If you are looking for a traditional English pub offering good food, then this is the place for you. After 5 days we certainly felt like one of the regulars, and it is Dog friendly. The Chequers host a Folk night on the 2nd Friday of the month, which fell just right for us. A selection of musicians were playing lots of popular Folk and English Dance tunes, it was brilliant.
Our friend who came with us who was not a CCC member was so impressed with the site and St. Neots, that he joined the CCC before leaving the site.
Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay and we will definitely be booking again soon.
