We have just returned from a camping trip over the bank holiday & it was our first visit with a group of other families (3 tents & 2 caravans in all). We had 15 children between us & 10 adults.
We had a good position on the field & there was plenty of space between each tent. Room for a gazebo, too, if you choose to have one. It's a short walk to the facilities.
The forest surroundings are beautiful. It's a short walk to the play areas & BMX track - all of our group's children loved them all. We felt our children were safe on the site & they could roam freely. There is a small play area on the site, too.
The washing up facilities are good.
We visited when the weather wasn't as warm as it could have been - in fact on one of the nights our milk & chocolate spread froze when left outside! Anyway, what would have been nice is for the shower block to have heating of some sort - there was nothing & the windows & door are left open all day! Hence, we gave them a miss.
We did utilise the disabled shower/toilet & we left a £5 deposit to have a key. This made life easier when showering our 3 children & was also a little warmer, although there was no heating here either.
There are 2 showers in here. The showers need a 50p coin for 5 mins, so bring some change! We've seen nicer showers, as these were somewhat basic, but they the job.
Although we had electric hook up, which did not trip, it did not provide the correct voltage (ie. Too low)so many of our group's appliances did not work fully e. G. Microwave, kettle, hairdryer. This made the nights cold as it affected our heater, too! Brrrr!
All in all, we would return to this site. We all had a wonderful time. The only downside was the shower block.

We usually go in a tent but this year borrowed a friends campervan, the only difference this made was that we were spared trying to avoid the potholes and gouges in the pitches to where to place our tent. I am surprised no one has seriously injured themselves, there is absolutely no care taken in the upkeep of the pitches.
I have been visiting this campsite for about 5 or 6 years now & I am amazed that we return year after year. If it wasn't for the perfect surroundings and the facilities that the forest provides climbing frames, bmx type course, great cycle rides etc we would not come back.
This year amazingly the shoddy shower blocks, 4 showers for the females of the campsite had had some attention, new shower curtains & holders to put your shampoo etc. Oh & more laminated little blue tacked signs telling you what to do & what not to do. They really are appalling for the prices that the campsite charges, they manage to go well under the extra mile.
But the woods & surrounding area put this campsite in perfect surroundings, that is the only reason I return.

We came to camp after watching the Theatre in the Forest which takes place in August each year. The campsite is a short walk up a track from the theatre site so perfect for making the most of the experience.
The camp site is not huge, just one circular track and when we camped on Friday night it was busy but not overcrowded. There were lots of families and it was quiet by 10pm and quiet in the morning too, which made it feel very restful. There is no traffic noise either as it is well off the road.
The ground is sandy so easy to get your pegs into when setting up camp.
There were just about enough showers for the people on site, 50p is needed for about 5 minutes and the reception had change. There are enough loos and also some outside dishwashing sinks.
We enjoyed some walks in Rendlesham Forest, as a bonus. There are a few marked trails to follow or varying lengths, which take you on some interesting walks in the woods.
There are no shops for a few miles so bring what you need with you.

First time camping and this was a great site to start off with.
The toilet and shower facilities were ok. Sink/washing up area was outside. I did have a problem with an ant infestation on my pitch and the site could not do anything about it so next time I will take ant powder if it is allowed.
The open forest was a nice touch for the children. It is definitely for families and it was nice for the children to just play with other kids. From 10pm it was really quiet which was great.
Make sure you take most things with you because your nearest shop is an easy 20mins drive. They have a shop on site with basics.

Spent an enjoyable night here to try it out. Beautiful location, especially in the morning with the sun shining through the trees. Pitch backed onto forest area, but not too dense, kids were very happy playing in there. In fact they played in there, making dens and swinging on rope swings, more than they did the on-site play area! Very family friendly with lots of children around playing, so perhaps not for those wanting very quiet camping.
Pitches were a good size, sandy ground so would imagine it would be quite messy in very wet weather but good otherwise. You can also hire a picnic bench for £1. 00 too.
Toilets, as per other reviews, were very basic/small, but well stocked with paper towels and loo roll at all times. Didn't use the showers but noticed you had to pay extra for them. Good washing up facilities so didn't have to wait very long to use them. Think if toilets/showers were upgraded it would be superb.
Will return, as the kids loved it and it was lovely walking in the forest.

Perhaps we didn't give this site a fair try, because I'm afraid we left after about 2 hours (happy to forfiet our £18) because our overall impression was that it was crowded, noisy and the facilities ie. loos/showers were insufficient for so many people.
The ground too seemed grubby being of a dark sandy soil, much worn, with lots of bugs jumping around - maybe it was stormy weather causing the bugs but we didn't fancy it at all
Maybe it was geared for families wanting somewhere for the children to let off steam (which they certainly seemed to be doing) but I'm afraid we won't be returning even though the staff member assured us 'you won't get a cheaper site round here'.
Well that may be true, but for us the experience simply re-enforced the old saying about getting what you pay for.

We visited this site for 4 nights over the 'Royal Wedding' weekend at the end of April. The site appeared to be full but due to the spacious pitches it didn't feel cramped; the pitch sizes are good and the large open central area was well used by many for football / cricket / kites etc.
Despite the site being busy we didn't have to queue for showers or washing up. The toilets and showers were kept acceptably clean despite the dust blowing across the site in the high winds and dry conditions we experienced. Showers were pleasantly hot and ok value at 50p for a good 5 minutes.
The children's playground is small and quite basic; much better kids play areas at the Rendlesham Forest Centre next door which is a short walk away.
The site shop seemed to have most basics. Make sure that you have everything you need before it closes as the nearest alternatives are probably all a 10-15 minute drive away. The nearest I found was a small corner shop in Melton which appears to be open until 10pm most days and sells basic foods and alcohol / tobacco. There is also a fish and chip shop in Melton from which we had a good meal.
Local attractions such as Aldeburgh, Thorpeness (take out a boat on the 'Mere'), and Orford are all a shortish drive away.
The site was very quiet at night but with quite a loud dawn chorus from the local wildlife. Pitches on the outer 'circle' back directly onto the forest allowing direct access for walking and exploring.
We very much enjoyed our stay at this pleasant site and intend to return again later in the summer.

We arrived quite late on the Royal wedding weekend at this site and were placed on the inner circle at an allotted pitch. The spacing between each tent was sufficient but as nobody faced anyone else I did not feel the site was as friendly as others we have visited.
The site is in the middle of nowhere so provisions do need to be taken with you! The facilities were poor and in desperate need of an update. They were cleaned but as they are needing to be modernised they appeared dirty. A man in his car hooting his horn drives around the site every morning selling newspapers at about 9am - fine unless you want a lie in.
The neighbouring forest is fantastic for bike rides and with several large wood framed children's play areas. For a weekend this was a lovely site but we wont be returning in a hurry.

We stayed at this site for 2 nights over a bank holiday weekend. The site itself wasn't bad. Unfortunately we got a pitch right next door to the play area, which was ok for our kids, but for us a little annoying after a little while.
The pitch itself was sandy which got into absolutely everything. The toilets were clean but dated and in need of modernising. There was a camp shop which supplied the basics but if you needed anything else local shops were a fair drive away.
No evening entertainment on site or nearby. There are walks through the forest where you can see Deer etc. At night all you can here is the constant noise of birds.
We had originally planned to stay for 4 nights but due to personal reasons we had to leave earlier than planned as our minds were on other things.
All that said we would come back here again.

We love this campsite. Having been let down by the Jolly Sailor site in Orford, this site offered us 3 very good size pitches at short notice. It's sandy so the pegs go in easily but just beware of the ants.
Being a forest site means plenty of great walks right on your doorstep but pubs/restaurants are a drive away. We overcame this one night by ringing the local curry house who delivered a wonderful take away right to our tent! - look our for the menus in the freezer hut.
The shop sells the basics, opening hours are a bit restrictive (9-5) but the staff (who are very helpful and friendly and live on site) have to have a life too.
It's a real family site but will also suit young couples and the more mature because it's such a beautiful location and everyone respected the no noise after dark rule. The showers are perfectly adequate as are the washing facilities (clothes and pots).
We ended up at this site by mistake but would recommend it to anyone and can't wait to visit it again.
