We stayed here for 3 nights and we had such a fabulous time, we will most definitely be back! What an amazing location, we had some fabulous walks in the forest and a trip to the seaside (Aldeburgh) was enjoyed by the dogs in our group!
The shop hours are inconsistent, and although there are signs at the entrance to the site asking people to check in at the shop, it was only open for one hour in the afternoon, so we just made our way to our pitch (they pre-allocate pitches) and set up. They were happy for us to do this. The shop sells cold drinks, some canned foods, and lots of sweets / ice-creams, but not much in the way of emergency camping equipment - you're close enough to Ipswich to be able to pick anything up offsite though.
There are BBQ table/chair sets for hire, £1 per day, so we hired one, they are fantastic! Mostly because we could tie the dog leads to the table andthe dogs wouldn't get tangled up (we had 4 labradors with us). Speaking of the dogs, an absolutely perfect site for dogs, as the pitches actually back onto the forest and there is no fence or anything, so each morning we could let the dogs out of their crates and they could go straight into the forest for a quick walk before breakfast.
The pitches were an okay size, there is plenty of room between pitches for parking cars and leaving bikes. Our pitch (27) was just wide enough for tent & guys, but had plenty of length, we pitched a kitchen tent behind our main tent (at no charge) and there was plenty of room for it. The EHU was included in the pitch fee, and there were plenty of points for each pitch, we had no probs with the supply.
We didn't see a site warden the whole time we were there. I didn't see the facilities being cleaned, but I'm sure they must have been. The ladies toilet block ran out of hand soap in the dispenser late Saturday night, and it had not been refilled by the time we left at 12 noon Sunday. The showers were fine, warm water (but no temperature control). The washing up facilities had warm-ish water, but no hot, so we ended up boiling our kettle and washing dishes on our pitch. There is a laundry onsite but we didn't need to use it.
Thursday night (term time) there were only maybe 4 tents and 6 caravans / motorhomes, Friday morning we had a lovely long sleep-in until 10.30am, but Friday night the site filled up and we were woken by children riding bikes etc at 7am. Sunday morning was a lot better and there was no real campsite noise until 8am (a lot more civilised for a non-morning person such as myself!).
We didn't sample any of the local pubs, though there were a few which looked interesting. For us the trip was all about long walks in the forest with the dogs, and socialising with friends (we booked, as a group, 14 pitches for the weekend and had a group BBQ on the Saturday night - the site is happy to take group bookings).
A 5 minute walk into the woods will soon link you into the Forest 'red' trail, which is a 3.5-mile walk, well-marked, and we did this twice - good swimming opportunities for the dogs.
The location could not be better and we will definitely be re-booking this site!

This is a fab site with full access to the forest and there are new play areas opposite the site which are excellent. You can easily fill your day here. The toilets and showers are dated but are clean and plenty of hot water no matter what time of day. The showers last for 5 mins for your 50p but start as soon as you put in the money outside of the cubicle. There is a small shop which stocks basics and ice creams! There is a car that comes round in the morning with papers.
The site is full of camping bustle during the day but it goes quiet after 9pm with just bird song for background noise.
There are rabbits some there are a few holes here and there, but the tents all seemed to able to pitch ok and the pitches, particularly round the edge are very roomy. The centre field has an area for ball games even when the site is full so very child friendly. Great fish and chips in Melton and they deliver pizza to site if required. Definitely will return!

Just returned from a wonderful two night stay - the location is absolutely gorgeous nestled in the middle of the forest, very peaceful - especially when the bird song starts up at around 10pm (yes really) and when the rabbits are bounding about the middle field.
We took our two young girls (18 months and 4 years) and they both loved it, they could run about safely and both had a fantastic time.
The showers and toilets were kept clean as was the washing up area. The shop had everything you could need, just watch the opening hours as they are limited at this time of the season anyway.
The Forest was lovely, we had a great hour or so exploring and could have spent a lot longer, next time we plan to spend a whole day there.
We had a great day out visiting Orford Castle and of course Aldeburgh for the fish and chips!
The site is great value for money and we will definitely be returning again and again and again!

Just got back from here after a lovely week away! We have 2 daughters who really enjoyed the play area and all the friends they made there!
The site is right in the middle of the woods. Its very pretty with lots of different walks you can go on. We did the UFO trail!
The ladies in the shop/reception were both very friendly.
The toilets/showers were kept very clean though the showers do get muddy but there is a mop in there to clean up. Its a bit of a pain having to pay as where you put the money in, it is outside of the cubicle!
It was not too busy when we arrived though by Friday it was a lot busier and the pitches did seem close together.
We all really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely go back here again!

We have camped here lots of times and this site remains a favourite with all of us (6 adults, 8 children and up to 3 dogs!). We have two caravans and a big tent between us and have always managed to get pitches together although you must book early in advance to ensure this. You do have to pay in full in advance too (non refundable) which is a bit of a pain but if you are die hards like us you won't cancel because of the weather anyway! Pitches are mainly flat and easy to pitch on. When the site is full it is really, really busy with loads of children, bikes, dogs (which have to be on leads or tethered) and ball games (often more than 3 at once in the middle of the field which is good fun) etc so if it's peace and quiet you want during the day, then this may not be for you! It is always very quiet at night when you want to sleep (usually after about 11pm at latest) so we have never had a problem. Site is a brilliant place for children and dogs with the forest and all its walks and cycle paths. Shop is well stocked if a tad expensive and the toilets are always acceptably clean. You will need your crocs or flip flops for the showers though as the floor in the shower block is always filthy - you are in the middle of a forest though so allowances must be made. There is a newspaper delivery car that comes round on Sat. And Sun. Mornings and you can order papers from the shop on other days. Woodbridge, Orford and Framlingham all a short drive away for bigger shops or pubs to eat at. We will be going back for more soon!

Just returned from a 3 night stay at Forest Camping and I must say what a wonderful location. We booked last minute and were lucky to get one of last available pitches. Next time we would pre book our space as we were very near the site entrance and it was very noisy till quite late into night. The tents etc did seem quite close together but if you could pre book a outside pitch they seemed better placed.
The toilets were fairly clean although floor seemed dirty but considering we were in middle of a forest I think they were ok.
The forest commission did lots to entertain the whole family the only down side was we forgot to bring our bikes. All the kids had bikes so make sure you take them, although you can hire them from a guy in the forest.
Would definitely be coming back again.

Return visit, after our 1st caravan trip last year.
Showers have been re-painted & the 'above head-height' cleaning has improved greatly. Plenty of washing-up facilities for campers. Shop has a better stock of the basics, but includes ice-creams now.
Lovely long-weekend away. Campsite was full, but not at all noisy & very quiet after 1030pm.
Will be re-booking again.

Stayed for our 1st caravan trip away, for a 3 night break. Site laid out on a large 'field' with a track running around. Tourers are generally pitched on the outside & tents on the inside. Pitch was good, backed on to open forest.
We had slight problems reversing our van onto the pitch (1st time reversing) & a couple of 'tenters' kindly helped with a push!
Site was clean & tidy, showers/toilets cleaned twice a day (bit more cleaning about head-height would be good, for those who are not spider-friendly). Showers were 50p & lasted a good 3mins. Lots of washing-up facilities for tents. Site shop holds the basics & warden was very helpful.
Recommended for a 'family' feel, as lots of kids. Plenty of dog-walking areas, as you're right in the forest. Already booked again for next year.

Great location next to Rendlesham forest, feels like proper woodland camping. Site is split in to 2 parts - the main site with organised pitches and then an overspill area. We turned up and pitched (as told) but then the next morning had to be moved to overspill area, which to be honest we preferred; great big pines and picnic tables.
Toilet block was well maintained, there is no play area but with so much woodland kids can just run off and explore.
The grass is quite tired and dry, but not really a problem for pitching your tent (you don't feel guilty about your groundsheet!) After pitching I realised it was where I did my Duke of Edinburgh many years ago, and so area is quite heavily used.
Not overpriced, but also not brilliant value for money due to still having to pay for a shower.

We made our first family camping trip here. The campsite was full but didn't seem over run. I think that their full is set at a sensible capacity. The site is sheltered by the forest and there is plenty of room between pitches. There were lots of children there which was good for our two (4and5) and the general atmosphere was family orientated and friendly. There was noise after midnight but not wild parties more of a hubbub and first kids were up and about by seven, just glad they weren't ours! Nice but high timber climbing frame. Showers are 50p for about five minutes they are warm but not very powerful. Loos and showers seemed clean. Liked that you can hire a picnic table for £1 per night. Recommend that you take bikes if you can. Would definitely go back we had a relaxing weekend and all the children looked after themselves.
