Like many others reading the reviews in particular ones from 2011 we were a little nervous about coming to this site. You should never believe what others say or the new owners have definitely made a difference as the site is lovely. Open, green, clean, lovely staff clean hot showers, of particular note was the food the new owner of the cafe prepared which was excellent. If there is a sour note its the late opening of the bar, 7:30 is a little Victorian and not what you would expect from a holiday park. With that said we will be coming back next year for longer than a weekend.

After reading mixed reviews on here we decided to give it a go. It was only an hour and a half from home so we thought we could pack up and go if it was dreadful!

But it really wasn't.

It's a nicely-laid out site with a green, open feel. The tent/touring part is definitely the 'down-market' end of the site - but the same is true for a lot of sites. That said, the facilities for the tents & caravans are good.

The showers are hot and clean - and free - and we never had to queue, despite being there on a busy August weekend during a rare spell of good weather.

Our pitch was excellent, level, close to a water supply and not far from all facilities. Other caravanners were friendly and approachable (we couldn't unhitch our caravan from the car and our neighbours helped!).

We didn't use the club or grandiously-named 'Poolside Cafeteria' as we went away to get away from it all and didn't fancy the noise, the plastic chairs or the unsupervised children. We sought out local village pubs and eateries, which were wonderful.

We did chance the pool on the Sunday evening, after most of the families with children had gone home. It was wonderful to have the pool to ourselves and we enjoyed it. Apart from the staff. We didn't know where to pay and there was no-one around and no notice.

We wandered into the bar and a barmaid told us we could go in but the pool was closing in half an hour. We said that was fine and asked the price - £3 each. I queried if it was still £3 so close to closing time. She shrugged and said that was the price, take it or leave it.

We stumped up and were glad we did. The pool wasn't warm enough but was nice. The one shower cubicle afterwards was insufficient but we didn't mind sharing!

The big downside was that all the lights were out in the changing rooms when we left the pool. They were on a sensor so came on after we started walking in there but for someone like like me with mobility problems that was a bit of a health & safety risk.

The biggest downside for us was the noise on the site. We stayed there because my husband was competing in an archery tournament on the Saturday and Sunday and he had to be up early each day. But the revelry from the tents near us stopped us sleeping until gone 12:30 each evening. There are signs around the site asking people to keep the noise down after 10pm, so the owners do try, but it could do with policing a bit more.

We were also a little unsettled by the groupings of tents. It's nice for big families and groups to go away together but when they turn the site into something looking like an anti-capitalism protest it is going a bit far.

We enjoyed walking around the static caravans and residential lodges. Lovely people on that side of the park.

We would probably go back but perhaps mid-week next time.

PS The dog loved it. Met lots of other nice dogs and found tons of good things to sniff. But he would prefer it if parents educated their children about not approaching strange dogs. Especially cute little fluffy dogs who dislike being patronised.

PROS:

Clean, nicely-laid out, good facilities for tourers.

CONS:

Noise, over-priced swimming pool, difficult approach roads, a little expensive for pitches (£21pn).

We have just returned from a 4 night Jubilee weekend stay at this site with two other tents, and after reading some previous reviews was a little concerned with the negative comments.

Firstly, the tent pitches are spacious, and the site is nicely laid out, the tent pitches have electric which is only £1 per night, and are a short walk from the toilet block, which has 3 sinks, which we never had to wait for, with lots of hot water. There are plenty of showers inside, and toilets, sinks etc all clean and no way dated. There is also a laundry room, and a chemical toilet emptying room. You need to pay £10 deposit for a fob, which is refunded on return.

The club house has a children's entertainer, magician etc, and a little cafe inside, also the bar area there is a snooker table, if you want to play properly take your own cue though, £1 buys you 20 min of light time. Drink prices are not extortionate, no more than you would pay at your local. The swimming pool is £2 for kids, for 2 hours, the pool is clean but water a bit cold.

The site itself is clean and tidy, it has a shop which could do with a bit more stock, but overall nowhere near as bad as some of the previous reviews say. There are 2 play areas, one by the clubhouse and one at the top of the tent field.

Clitheroe and its Castle and lovely town are a 5 min drive away or 30 min cycle ride, with lots of shops and also 3 bigger supermarkets, Booths, Tesco and Sainsburys. The Castle is free to walk around and has a cafe etc, also has large gardens with a children's play area. There is also a nice village called Waddington just down the road.

I have been to lots of campsites and would go here again.

Just come back from a 4 night stay at this site over the jubilee weekend, which hyped the prices. I read the previous reviews the night before going and thought 'oh my god'. I am the fussiest person in the world, however following our little trip I have got to say that it weren't a bad site at all. My thoughts are that they obviously look after the people who live on the site and don't really go out of their way for the camper/holiday makers. Asked a member of staff who appeared to be the boss about good local attractions, and she didn't have a clue and give me some free local newspapers. This didn't impress me. I'll go through things bit by bit and hopefully this will help you decide:-

Pitches - Could do with a bit more maintenance, i. E. Get them flat, and fill holes in but overall not that bad really.

Parks - Seen better, seen worse but all the children in our party enjoyed playing in them so who am I to argue.

Shop - This park must be losing money by the second, no beer, no newspapers/magazines, no camping accessories, baby food, not a lot at all really apart from noodles which were on offer. Make sure you take everything you need. Oh they do sell flammable toy aliens though.

Swimming pool - A previous review slagged this facility off, however no complaints from me whatsoever. Spotless, warm and not a pube in sight. Would recommend. Only one shower though for when you get out so time it right.

Club - Had a disco on each night we were there. Was quite surprised that more people didn't attend the kiddie disco as our kids had a laugh, and so did we. Bar was reasonably priced and it was I have got to say a decent pint. Staff were lovely in the bar. Snooker table hidden in a room off the club, with no kids allowed - ah heaven!

Cafe - You can get the finest clitheroe cuisine here as long as it is deep fat fried or microwaveable. Beware, staff fall asleep at regular intervals. Knitted clothing available on request. Staff lovely, very lovely.

Arcade - Note sure I can call it an arcade as it only had one game. I'll tell you what I'll call it an arc. Two pool tables. One of which has a massive tear up the middle, and the other one if your clever about it you can open up without the key and just take the balls back out and play for free. At least this is what all the Burnley people were doing, is this the norm for them???

Toilets / Showers - Erm, erm, erm. You have to give a ten pound deposit for a key fob to get acccess to the toilet. They must be scared that your going to clean up and fix the showers, that's all I can say about this. I had one shower in 4 days, that was enough, and it was the quickest shower I have ever had. I had to pick my 5 year old up to get him wet in the shower as the shower head was pointing up. I managed to give him half a shower, he started crying when I hung him up by his feet.

Location - Not bad, you are camping afterall. We played hide and seek in the woods, which was fun. I love hiding in old disused toilet blocks, it's the best.

Overall - Hey, it's camping it's what you make of it at the end of the day. We have been to better places, and wouldn't go here again. The only reason I wouldn't is the shower block but I have also seen a lot worse than this place. The site has obviously had better and more prosperous days. I hope they get them back because it has the potential to be a really nice camp site AGAIN. If nothing else, get the bar and get a pair of beer goggles, everything is so much nicer, including the wife.

We have just returned from a ten night stay over the Jubilee weekend! The weather was horrendous so prob not the best time to judge a site but I will try to pick up on earlier comments,

First of all the approach to the site is stressful to say the least, through a tiny village over a narrow bridge full of scars to remind you to take your time ( I pull a large caravan ) up a narrow lane in 1st gear, second if you don't meet oncoming traffic. Don't blink you will miss the entrance on the right.

First impressions are of a well presented / maintained site, buildings are dated but everything clean, toilets are very clean but had been allowed to run out of toilet tissue

Showers are spacious and allow for bathing children and keeping clothes dry no complaints here, washing up facilities on the outside of toilet block under a cover no problems, there was a laundry room we never used but was very clean and smelled gorgeous.

We used the swimming pool and I thought it was excellent. Clean and warm with a shower to bathe before use and after. 10/10 temp perfect for young children, mine loved it.

Downsides are the hardstandings look and feel grubby with rather dirty black chippings that stain everything, landscaping is not maintained and reflects badly on the feel of your pitch ( wife described it like a car park ), potholes are numerous, and I hate to say it dog dirt was everywhere. The point being nobody seemed to care, with litter not picked up, the site just felt sad and unloved

Cant see myself returning

Just got back from this time warp of a site, hill climb to get to it, narrow lanes, etc

The facilities looked like something back in 1970's

Wouldn't have like to have been in a tent there because of the walk to the sinks etc,

Children's play area hmm enough said about that (a few logs bolted together)!

Clubhouse stunk of chip fat, the cafe workers seemed nice enough though. Kids were entertained in there, seemed happy enough, bonus in the side room is a full size snooker table, which I only just noticed on the last night.

Swimming pool, kids said no! Didn't look clean,

There's a £10 refundable deposit back for Fob keys to showers etc, which looked dated, didn't use them.

A dribble of water to try and clean your chemical toilet out with, and push taps to get your fresh water which is a nuts idea.

All in all, quiet site, not much for two 12 years olds to do much, small shop, dated site

 Stayed here over Easter weekend.

Saturday night entertainment in the club was great for the children, party games, balloon fun and Karaoke.

Good takeaway, although chip oil smelled like it had been reused many times!

Swimming pool was warm and very quite, but poolside very dirty.

Overall campsite seems rundown, decoration required.

Clitheroe is a lovely town with plenty of pubs and restaurants, Maxwells is great for coffee and cake.

The Wild Boar Park is worth a visit. It has a nice tea room, the children loved the animals.

Booked 3 nights for the price of two at half term which seemed reasonable as the site had a pool, unfortunately we were not informed that this was closed due to maintenance.

Arrived around 6.00pm to find nobody on reception no instructions for where we were to pitch and keypad entry required on toilets! We decided to just pitch where we could and nobody seemed to object. We did finally locate a member of staff about 8.00 but everything seemed very organised.

Toilets and showers were good and although we didn't use the club it seemed very nice when we went in to search out a staff member.

The site is remote but does have a shop which I assume would be open more in main season.

The grass pitches looked ok but due to the time of year we had to use the hardstanding (which is understandable) however the hardstanding was made up of horrible black fine gravel that got trodden in all over the caravan.

There were good play facilities for younger children. I would try and visit again in Summer and try and use the grass pitches.

We have just come back from bank holiday weekend. I booked this site because it specifically said it was a 'quiet' site with no noise policy after 10 pm. Friday night was horrendous. To cut a long story short we left early on sunday night. If you want a quiet site do not go here.

The swimming pool was good for the kids, but far to hot, in my opinion.

I also think the breakdown of things you have to pay for is ridiculous. £5 a night for a gazebo! When everything is added up turns out most expensive site we have stayed at.

On the positives. Staff were very friendly. Toilet block was clean. There were enough toilets/showers and the food was edible and cheap.

Would we go back? Probably not.

Stayed her for a couple of nights on a pitch with an electrical hook up. The field itself was ok, flat enough for pitching the tent without fear of rolling off down a hill when sleeping with plenty of space around the tent. We were also close to a kids play area which the kids thought was great but thankfully the noise didn't disturb us.

The site asked guests to keep the noise down after 10pm in the evening but on our first night we experienced noise until after 11:30 with kids running around the back of our tent thrown into the bargain. The second night was marginally better noise wise but on each night we saw no sign of anyone enforcing the request to keep the noise down.

The toilet block was functional but in need of attention in places, the shower head I used on one occasion put as much water down the wall from a leaking connection as it did on me. The ladies in our party report that their facilities smelt of 'drains' when they visited but were clean enough otherwise. The washing up facilities were hampered by only one basin having a plug and the drains seemed to struggle when you emptied the sink.

We didn't use any of the other facilities on the site, so can't offer any guidance on these.

We did find the pricing structure a bit steep for a tent, they seemed to charge for everything that you might place near your tent e. G. Canopy, windbreak and there was little difference between the cost of tents and caravans.

Had a day out in Clitheroe and would recommend the castle museum, the sausage shop and the fine wine shop just off the main street.
