Just returned from a 3 night stay at Torrent Walk Campsite. We were a group of 2 families, 4 adults and 4 children and would recommend this site to anyone. It is close to town, where there are eateries, pubs and coffee shops and conveniently near an Esso garage for essentials.
We found the site clean, well managed and well priced. Plenty of pitches in a number of areas: Main Camping field, which was on a hill, flat area for caravans and tents with hook up and a hilly area with recesses. Plenty of space between tents, great views on all sides.
First day, due to lack of essentials we ordered breakfast from on site B&B. £6. 50 got us cereal and a full English plus toast, muffins fruit etc. You eat at the B&B rather than taking a cooked meal away, which would have been more practical as the two families were unable to eat together. Gorgeous breakkie though.
Showers and toilet areas were kept clean at all times. We didn't wait at all for showers. Plenty of free hot water. No soap at basins, so take your Carex. Washing up area the same.
Fire starter packs can be bought for £4. Fires can be started pretty much anywhere, so watch where you pitch. We had a fire hole in the middle of the living space! There are picnic benches provided, which can be moved around the site. Very handy.
The only downsides to the site is the noise from the BUSY main road. It runs across the top field, so from 8. 30am there is a lot of traffic noise. Didn't affect sleep quality though, just disappointing for an otherwise ideal site. A small on site shop and a childs play area would have made our stay better.

We only intended using the site as a base for mountain biking but it was A1. The owners are very helpful and said you could pitch where you wanted.
It was quiet during the week but got busy at the weekend. The 2300hrs curfew was pretty much respected even though it was pretty much full on Saturday night.
The (fairly new) toilet block is really not big enough and was clearly under pressure. Road noise is apparent but not too noticeable although we were on the overspill, the terraces could have been worse.
Encouraging camp fires and actually selling the diy arson kits is what its all about !
The busy toilet block and road noise paled into insignificance when you can have your own fire. The way camping should be, it looked like an Indian reservation with 20 camp fires in the twilight.
Forget the garage, the co-op in town is better, turn right at the forestry commission offices.

Visited on last bank holiday of year - camp site was very busy and we where allocated a pitch - we were with another family and were given two pitches which looked more like 1 & half pitches.
There is a 10pm arrival curfew however a trailer tent turned up after this time and the family were very noisy throughout the night until 4am despite 11pm noise policy! I complained and it wasn't treated with seriousness - I even called the site on the contact number at 3am and they never answered. Generally the site was easy going and you could do almost anything you wanted.
We decided to take a kitchen tent because we knew the weather was bad - they charged £3 per night for it - which was suprising to us, but not a big issue.
The toilets were sufficient however there were long waits for the shower - only 2 in the block!
Area was nice, torrent walk is good for a few hours, barmouth good on sunday for market.

Arriving mid week it was very quiet with only three other tents on site along with half a dozen caravans. We pitched at the end of row to keep our youngest child as far away from others as possible as he has a habit of waking up in the night. We later realised this was on top of the soak away area which flooded after heavy rain. You could feel puddles squelch under foot inside the tent, thankfully it didn't seep through but it really spoiled our experience and made the £22 per night seem expensive as you expect a site to be properly drained.
On Friday night it got very busy with random pitching in places, some of which arrived later than the 10pm curfew cited. The influx of people put pressure on the facilities, perhaps everyone realised this would be the case as we could hear the toilet block door slamming from 6am.
The showers are fine though, plenty of hot water and the use of a laundry and fridge room is a good touch. Bike wash and bike storage are also good features and the b&b on site offers breakfasts to campers if requested (we didn't try it but the smell was good).
The site is in a good location, especially for Coed Y Brenin (the MBR and Beast trails have had improvements in recent years for those that haven't been for a while - very recommended!). Road noise is not too noticeable and a reasonable gap between pitches and trees means bird noise is not excessive.
I'm sure when the clouds lift there are some nice views although you'd need to be on the terraced pitches to get the best of them. Torrent Walk is worth a visit, turn right out of the campsite and it's approx 500 yards on the right hand side.
Esso garage just down the road for emergency snacks.

A nicely located site close to Cadair Idris and the Berwyns. At the time of visiting, the site was not that busy and conditions were wet. The drying room and the new, modern toilet block were well appreciated. The latter was well heated and the showers were great.
The field(s) are flat with plenty of space between units although I suspect this might be different in busy periods. Price was £7 per person per night. Traffic noise was acceptable and almost everyone respected the 23.00 noise curfew.
Located a few minutes away is an Esso petrol station with a small shop that has all the essentials. Dolgellau is about 30 minutes walk or a quick drive. There are plenty of eating places and pubs. The Ship Hotel had good grub as did the Bistro across the road.
Mountain walking was great with relatively easy access to all the southern Snowdonia classics such as Cadair and the Berwyns. Clearly this site is popular with mountain bikers judging by the number of people sporting bikes.
We will certainly return at some point.

I stopped at this site with my partner for three nights over the Easter weekend.
The first thing you notice about this site is that there are fantastic views whichever direction you look in. Check in was straight forward, the owners very friendly and we were advised that we could pitch where ever we liked.
Location wise it is about a 20 minute walk to the town of Dolgellau where there are some pubs/restaurants. There is also a petrol station a few minutes away which has essential provisions like milk and bread if you need them (there is also a Spar in the town).
The shower block was very clean and tidy and though the campsite was busy we never had to queue.

We stayed during the long weekend of the Royal Wedding. We were a bit disappointed that we were allocated a pitch for our tent despite not needing EHU, I guess this was because they expected it to be busy. By Saturday most tents were within 5 metres of each other which gave it a bit of a music festival feel.
Facilities were ok, the bike storage in particular was very useful as we spent a lot of time at Coed y Brenin. I do feel there were some obvious things missing however, for instance there is no soap provided in the toilets for washing your hands. Surely this is the norm nowadays? The toilets and showers were in the same building which I'm personally not very keen on due to usual bad smells etc. One of the toilets was out of order during our stay.
On the day we arrived it was very windy and pitching the tent was tricky. The ground was very hard which made pitching the tent even more difficult, there seemed to be a lot of rocks about 3 inches under the grass. Numerous pegs were bent.
Unfortunately, our overall experience was hampered by the constant strong winds, this made cooking very difficult and forced us to stay in the tent the majority of the time despite the excellent weather.
The owners were very friendly. We paid £7 per person per night which I thought was very good considering it was a Bank Holiday.
There is a large Co op 3 minutes drive away in Dolgellau which has everything you could want. The Unicorn pub also serves a good pint of Real Ale.

Stayed over the Royal wedding /may bank holiday weekend with friends and family and had absolutely fantastic weather. It did get very very windy at times and it is not a particularly sheltered site The site has fabulous views and is well situated for Coed - y - brennin, the valley and Cader Idris. It was very very busy the Friday and slightly less so by the Saturday night and some of the pitches were very small and pitched very close together. I would though say that this is the only thing to complain about and despite the fact it was so busy it was pretty quiet at night. After 10 it was almost silent although on the Sunday night when the site was almost empty there were one noisy group but I think that they were dealt with. The road noise from the main road at the top of the site reduces dramatically at night too. There were a lot of motor bikes using it during the day which made it noticeable. The lake on the site with the ducks and ducklings were great and the youngsters in the party were fascinated by the open fire that was allowed and the pack of wood that could be purchased was good value. The torrent walk up the road if you turn right out of the site is wonderful.
The owners were working hard all weekend and must be commended for their efforts in keeping the place especially the toilets and showers clean and functioning all weekend - only the adding of extra bins for the particularly busy weekend would have helped.
Would I go again ? Yes but probably avoiding a bank holiday weekend but then that could probably be said of most sites.

This is a wonderful site. We arrived quite late in the evening and received a very warm welcome. We were invited to pitch anywhere we wanted and when we enquired about camp fires the owner simply said 'yes, do whatever you like' - very very laid back and relaxed which really added to the whole experience.
The site is divided into one area for vans and two for tents - one being up a steep hill with levelled pitches dotted around it, the other being a perfectly flat pitch with hook-ups.
The facilities are superb. Lovely clean toilets and showers - maybe 5 or 6 loos and showers in the ladies block and I assume the same in the mens which for the size of the site is more than adequate. Good washing up area, cold water tap and even a cold drinks machine.
The location was lovely and would recommend the torrent walk and the little cafe at the end of it!
I had a fantastic stay and would certainly visit again.

I stayed here for 4 nights with my husband and three children.
There are many positive points about this site and I will start with those. The toilet facilities were well maintained and clean at all times despite being busy. There are also covered dish washing facilities and bike storage if you require them.
Although the access road to the site is narrow oncoming vehicles were courteous and let us past. Even with a large twin axle caravan we managed to pull into the site with ease.
The location of the site is second to none. The views of the surrounding hills are wonderful and there are no end of walks nearby to keep kids worn out. The Mawddach Trail is a 9mile flat cycle/walking route along the disused railway track to Barmouth and I would recommend this although we didn't think much of Barmouth itself. Torrent walk is a pretty walk alongside a waterfall although may not be suitable for young children due to the sheer drop into fast flowing water and rocks.
On the negative side the caravans are packed in. There was only a few feet between my mother-in laws awning and our caravan. So much so that they had to tie their awning guide rope to our caravan wheels as there wasn't enough room to peg it in. Once the caravan and awning were in place we had about 2 feet before the end of our marked pitch.
Both the cars has to be parked on the car park up by the toilet block. This in itself was awkward as the sheer amount of cars meant that we were blocked in on several occasions.
The pitches we were allocated weren't very level and multiple blocks were needed under the rear steadies and the jockey wheel was as short as it could possibly go. This was awkward and time consuming to set up but not unworkable.
The site was busy and therefore there was a lot of noise of an evening. Although I found this annoying especially when getting 3 kids to sleep I do appreciate that some noise is inevitable. However, at midnight there was still a lot of noise and screaming and shouting from the tent field. Even ear plugs and closing the caravan windows didn't help. This I felt was unacceptable and despite letting the site owners know this continued each night.
At £28 per night I didn't feel this was value for money .
