An excellent campsite. Easy to get to and lovely when you are there. There are 3 fields to camp in. The main one in the photo, a field with 'ledges' ie a sloping field that has been terraced to fit different sized tents and an overflow field that had sheep in when we were there but is probably used in the school summer holidays. All the fields are a short walk from the toilet / shower / washing up block.
We stayed on the lower ledge. We would have preferred to be further up but our heavily laden car was having none of it! From here we had a better view but you need good tent pegs as the ground is stony. We noticed on the main field people were just pushing the pegs in by hand so take your choice.
The main field had electric hookups and a row of hard standing sections. Many of these seemed to be used by people who set-up for the season. One man was even growing tomatoes in a growbag!
When we got there we went to the house we were greeted with a smile and were given a leaflet about the site with a map on and told to have a look round to see where we fancied camping. A much better idea than being given a patch like some campsites. We could camp near the hookups if we wanted even though we didn't use them. This may change in the very high season.
The facilities were excellent and well maintained. There was lots of hot water and big sinks round the side for washing up. One word of warning - the person who cleans the 'ladies' is male! It didn't bother me but I noticed one lady waiting until he had gone.
There was always loo roll and it was always clean and tidy. The showers were lovely and hot and free but could have done with a shelf to put the soap etc on.
When we were there I noticed that there seemed to be more male groups (strangely in groups of 3!) than females though there were plenty of couples and also families at the weekend.
The area is wonderful, 300yds down the road is a walk around the Torrent waterfalls and is 2.5miles long. I highly recommend this as it is an easy walk on a chipping path with only a few steps along the way.
Back up the entrance road there is a petrol station where you can get basic supplies and next to this is a Little Chef where we went for brunch on the one day it rained. It served good basic food and the staff were helpful even when busy. In the nearest town a couple of miles away, there is a Spar for food needs and on the outskirts a big supermarket. There is also a very well equipped camping / hiking shop in the main square of the town.
All in all, one of the best camp sites I have been to. I would really recommend it and would love to go again.

Went for 4 nights could have stayed longer. Lovely site, clean and the best showers ever. Very good choice of pitches. Good that we had the use of fridges. Need a car to get about, put plenty to see. We were lucky with the weather, and there is a local garage to buy basic supplies. Very busy at weekend, but still very quiet early. Would go back again.

I have just returned from the best weekend of my life! A 3 night stay at this campsite with 8 of my friends for my hen do! We stayed in an 8 berth tent (7 girls) and a 2 berth tent (2 lads) and we were allowed to pitch where we liked as the field without electric hook ups is massive (think playing football and frisby as much as you like without hitting another tent!).
We used our common sense to pitch away from other tents as we were there for a bit of a party but it seemed 2 other couples didn't have as much common sense as they pitched right next to us even though they could see we had put hen party banners and balloons all over our tent! Oh well, It'd have been their problem if they'd have complained, luckily they never did. The girl who took our payment said it was ok for us to make a bit of noise and we were never asked to turn our music down or anything. We wanted to find a campsite which allowed a group of adults and somewhere that wouldn't kick us off for playing a bit of music and getting a little loud after a few drinks and this place was perfect, there wasn't one single complaint.
There were a few families on site but mostly adults I think. We had a campfire each night (£4 for a pack of wood from the house but we used 2 packs each night) which took the chill off because even though the weather was glorious in the day (23 degrees C) it got pretty chilly in the evenings around 8pm. It was actually very very cold in the tents during the night too and so much so that 2 of our girls slept in their cars each night! Hats, thick socks and extra blankets are a must and even then you'll wake up freezing haha! All part of the fun though isn't it?!
Some people talked about the loud road on other reviews and I have to say it might wake you up if you are a light sleeper when a huge truck goes past at 3am! It sounded like a train going though the site! The only other sound you will hear is owls and a few animals scuttling past your tent during the night! We saw a lot of rabbits while we were there and bats at dusk near the entrance of the site :o) there were a few bees flying round the ground during the day but they were only a minor irritant, they were just doing their job! There were no midgies or big bugs thankfully! Also look out for the RAF planes and helicopters flying overhead very low during the day! They were very cool!
The toilet block is very clean and well equipped although they should invest in some handwash dispensers. But the showers were powerful and hot and there was never a shortage of loo roll. The fridge and freezer came in handy but the hairdryer may as well not be there, it is very slow and quite rubbish to be frank plus it is 20p for 5 mins. There was a rush for the showers around 6am - 9am but we showered later around 11am and we got to use the large disabled one each day without queueing. Also the smell of everyones morning toilet habits had gone by this time, it's not pleasant brushing your teeth next to a cubicle with someone taking a ****!
Washing up area is at the back of the toilet block and has 2 large sinks with hot water plus it is sheltered from the rain. Theres also a washer, dryer and iron + board in the room where the fridge is but we never used it.
The little chef that is a 5 minute walk came in very handy as we couldn't be bothered to cook with a hangover (!) so we just trundled on down there each day and although the food is ok the staff need to lighten up a little, they were very unfriendly and not very polite with us. There is also a petrol station next to the little chef where the man who works there is very friendly and chatty :o) The small town of Dolgellau is a 5 min drive, there's nothing much there apart from a co-op (blink and you'll miss the turning!), a eurospar supermarket which has everything you will need and a pharmacy. The pub I heard does good food but unfortunately they had stopped serving sunday lunch when we arrived at 5pm so we didn't stay longer than having a quick drink (in dirty glasses), I wouldn't go back to the pub. We also had a drive to Porthmadog, it takes about 30 mins and there is a large town centre and a lovely port there plus the drive there is fantastic, the roads are very windy and enjoyable.
Overall the campsite is excellent, I would recommend it to anyone, adults and families but there isn't anything to do apart from relax or go for walks/bike rides. I would have stayed for a fortnight and enjoyed just sitting reading and having a laugh with friends in the sun! :o) it is a very peaceful place, even with a full on hen do there as each pitch is placed where you like so you suit yourself really.
I would definitely return and we are thinking of going again as a family in the near future (we have 2 kids age 4 and 2). If you are a group of responsible adults who like to have fun then give this place a go, you won't be disappointed! At £6 per adult you can't go wrong really! Can't wait to go again!

We booked this campsite for the Bank holiday weekend at the end of May, based on good reviews and because we wanted to go up Cadair Idris.
First the good points. It is a nicely positioned pleasant site with good facilities.
But: the first shock was the price. Unusually for me I didn’t check before booking and was a little surprised to find it was £20 per night for 2 people with a folding camper, awning and electrics.
I was then shown where to pitch. The road in the main part of the site goes round a grassed area with a hedge down the middle of it. The hook up pitches were either side of the hedge and the pitches were marked out with yellow paint. There were also other hook ups opposite where we were, on large pitches, but these seemed to all be occupied by regulars, probably seasonal caravanners.
The pitches to which we were directed, were very small. There was just room for the camper, awning and car. If we had wanted to sit out or eat out at a table we couldn’t have, as there wasn’t room. As it happened we didn’t want to. The track around the pitches was so dusty that every time a car drove by it kicked up a lot of dust, so I wouldn’t have wanted to be outside. A sign politely asking people to drive slowly to avoid kicking up so much dust may have helped.
Painted lines had been put down to mark out smaller than usual pitches so that a very large group of campers could be squeezed in at the end of the row. This was a group of families not youths. And they were noisy. Very noisy. They were talking loudly the first night until gone 1am. The second night I think they stopped at just after 12. But the 3rd night there was noise until nearly 3am. Luckily, being so tired from climbing Cadair Idris I slept through a lot of it but kept getting woken by loud cackles.
The leaflet you are given when you arrive asks you to keep quiet after 11. The owners must have known the potential for noise from a large group, so should have made checks to ensure this was adhered to.
Being Bank Holiday weekend, as many people as possible were crammed in, with the inevitable result that the facilities had queues, and the bins were soon full. Luckily people had bagged up their rubbish so at least the overflow was relatively tidy.
To conclude, I had a great weekend despite the campsite.
Cadair Idris is awesome, but it took around 6 hours and I found it harder than Snowdon.
For food I can recommend the Bistro by the car park in Dolgellau.

If like me one of the first “tools” you use when looking at a campsite is aerial maps then you get the false impression that this is a modest site in an elongated oval shape.
This central section, where the main facilities block is, hosts the units requiring electric hook-up. When we stayed the caravans tended to be put at one side whilst the other was given over to tents.
If you are in a tent and do not require EHU then your pitching options are greatly improved as the surrounding fields are given over to this. There are some fabulous pitches here that have been landscaped out of some of the inclines to provide ridges for your car and tent. There are nice views from these pitches. An artificial lake has also been created which makes the field a little more picturesque (not that it’s needed given where the site is).
Whilst some of the camping field is close to the main road I was not troubled by noise. Yes you do hear the odd vehicle now and again, but you soon filter this out. At night I never heard any traffic noise.
The site facilities are fairly new so are in good working order and kept clean and stocked throughout the day. With only three showers and washing sinks per toilet block I can imagine queues forming at busy periods, but that can be said of many camp sites.
The other facilities include free fridge / freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer (£1 a shot), pot washing (outside but has a canopy over it) and free secure bike storage.
Many people took advantage of the “campfires allowed”, with “kits” being sold on site (a nice little earner judging by the amount I saw being bought).
The owners are very nice and friendly and will always have a chat with you about how your day was, or what your plans are. They obviously know the area well and can offer good advice on things to do and see.
All in all an excellent site with good facilities, lovely setting and a good base camp location for North Wales exploration. I enjoyed my stay, I highly recommend it.

We spent a lovely weekend at this beautiful little site earlier this month. It has all of the necessities (though the shower block is quite small and may result in queueing in busier months) and some of the touring pitches are on hard standing. It does comes complete with stunning scenery and crisp mountain air for free though.
I would say that it seems geared up more for adults than children, though the young kids there seemed to be enjoying themselves.
There are some stunning walks in the vicinity and Barmouth is only a short drive away should you wish to visit the seaside. There is a shop within a few minutes walk too.
The rates are good and the people friendly.

We arrived at the site and went to the main house, where we were given a leaflet about the site and told we could pitch along a central hedge for ehu.
The toilet and shower block was cleaned regularly and lovely and warm. There are three toilets, three sink cubicles, two showers and a disabled toilet. There is a laundry and freezer room on the same block. The pot washing sinks are outside under shelter but there isn't any lighting so take a torch.
The bike storage is in a container close to the toilet block and the site owner has the key.We had no trouble getting our bikes when needed.
The weather was quite bad with wind and rain which made the ground very muddy but did drain away eventually.
As the evenings were cold we had a campfire, the kits can be bought from the owner for £4.
The little chef is a few minutes walk and there is a Eurospar in Dolgellau where a bacon and sausage bun is £1.45 bargain breakfast.
The Unicorn we found to be a nice little pub serving food as well, but don,t be tempted to eat chips from the local chip shop on their benches outside you'll be asked to move.
The site was a good location for mountain biking but wouldn't recommend it for families as there's little for children to do.

Fabulous site, good pitches on many levels, some with electric hook-ups on main field. Separate tiered section gave marvellous views, and helps with the king of the castle feel! Toilet block nice and clean, showers very hot and powerful. Washing up area with big sinks and plenty of hot water (Take a head torch though, not lit at night!)
Friendly and easy going site with campfires and horses, fantastic!

Excellent campsite in a fantastic location with Cadair Idris (north side), Mawddach estuary and Coed y Brenin easily accessible. Great weather helped but pleased with facilities on offer - separate showers (2 each plus disabled) available in male and female loos plus big sinks. Outdoor washing area with 3 sinks. Industrial washer and dryer available and was delighted to find a fridge freezer where you could store your cool blocks and any food if you didn't have a cool bag. Site owner was cleaning out the showers and loos every morning and campers thankfully used the mop to clean up after each shower. A jet wash is available at £1 a go for mountain bikes, as well as a secure bike shed. Views wonderful, camp fires allowed which was a real treat for my 8 year old and helped keep the chill off - starter packs only £4 from the owners. Owners were really friendly, even when I called at 10 to midnight to complain about some very noisy campers who were unaware or indifferent to 11pm noise curfew - they came out and sorted the problem instantly. If I had to find a downside it would be the lack of a play area for children, but with horses in the adjoining field and a rope swing in the woods my girl got by. I will definitely use this site again as it's a perfect base and would wholeheartedly recommend it!

Visited here for a week before the bank holiday and found it a great base for getting about. Barmouth is only 15 mins away although when the traffic is bad you can add almost an hour to this! We looked at a few other campsites in the area before settling for this one as this was more protected from the wind coming off the sea and up the estuary. The toilet and shower blocks were new and kept clean but really could have done with several more as people started queing for a shower at 6:30 in the morning! There is a garage with a small shop just minutes away which was really useful. A great bonus is allowing campfires which is great for nightimes when the temperature starts to drop due to the great British weather! Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and would return to this site if we were in the area again.
