We stayed here for four nights including May Day Bank Holiday. The site was clean and sheltered, showers and toilets excellent, only three each of toilets, showers and washbasins, but did not have to queue once. The site was quite busy, but not overcrowded. The only criticism is that as we wanted hook ups (fan heaters!) we had the choice of either side of a hedge which was between the dirt track around the camp site. There was plenty of room in the fields around - but no hook ups!. We were within easy reach of an excellent cycle path. It was an old railway line, flat and alongside the estuary, the scenery is beautiful. It was 9 miles into Barmouth. We all cycled into Barmouth and back - 18 miles in total - four adults and three children, the four and five year olds on their own bikes - they were stars! Surrounding countryside is lovely, with some lovely walks. The children were fascinated by the many lambs in the surrounding fields. A campfire every night was an added bonus. Would certainly go there again.

A lovely site next to a beautiful woodland stream setting.
Visited on a busy bank holiday but was reasonably well organised and we were all able to camp together (5 families with young children and dogs.
It was a bit cramped but that's to be expected for the time of year.
Were able to have camp fires which was great in the evening.
Great facilities with access to fridge and freezers. Obviously the toilets and showers were busy as it was a bank holiday but not a major issue.
Great location for visiting Dolgellau, Fairbourne, Barmouth and beyond.
Will definitely return here.

Stayed here for 4 nights over Easter and we were grateful to get anywhere with a hook up at this time as we only booked it about 3 weeks ago, apart from putting the tent up in rain, the weather for the following 3 days was like summer! The nights were cold though and the cars were frozen first thing in the morning.
The site itself is set within beautiful scenery. We were shown to our initial pitch, however we asked could we change it as we have a very large tent-Vermont XL (which we did mention when we booked)and it would probably have only just fitted on. They moved us on the side where the majority of caravans are and whilst there was not lots of room, there was enough room to pitch the tent and leave the car at the front. If you don't need a hook up, there seems lots of space to pitch your tent.
We have a 2 1/2 year old & a 6 month old (start them early!) and the biggest downside for the site was the lack of things to do on there. It would have been ideal if it had a small park for her to play on. There were a few sheep to visit at the entrance to the campsite. We could not find a freezer to put our ice packs in, although to be fair we did not ask as the nights were pretty cold anyway.
On the first night everybody's electricity kept tripping out, but this was rectified for the following 3 nights - so no real issue.
The shower block was modern with 2 shower cubicles, 2 sink areas & a disabled area all of which was cleaned regularly. There is also a reliance on campers to give a quick mop up in the cubicle following a shower which everyone seemed to adhere to.
We went out daily, Barmouth was 15 mins away & was beautiful, however most other main attractions seemed a little further out and between 30 & 50 miles away. The road through to Caernarfon was amazing and well worth a visit if you like windy roads through hills & valleys with lakes & mountains a plenty.
Whilst we probably won't stay here again, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the site and I can see why people loved it - it just wasn't for us or suited for small children. I think it'd be ideal for walkers & bikers alike.

Lovely site. Toilet block very clean as long as everyone showed a bit of consideration for others and mopped the floor with the mop and bucket provided. Lots of hot water for washing up and a jet wash for hosing down bikes (children??!) etc. Never noticed the traffic noise that others have mentioned. However, the road down to the campsite is single track with blind corners and hills and you need to be very aware and drive very slowly.
20 minutes away from Barmouth and its beautiful beach but a pub within walking distance would have been nice.
Plenty of room for children to run about and ours had great fun playing in the little stream that runs through the site. No play area but our lot (aged 3 - 6) had plenty of fun just running around and playing on their bikes.
Word of warning however, there is a large pond a little way up the hill which we had to warn our kids to stay well away from and it did concern us that it was a bit unsafe to have something like that in a family campsite.
Otherwise, we would definitely go back and we were very impressed.

Of the three campsites we stayed on this holiday this has to be our favourite. The scenery is beautiful and there are ponies and sheep in the surrounding fields.Just up the road you can walk on the Torrents Walk which is a very pleasant walk taking about 1hour and a half.
There are no fixed pitches and the site owners said we could camp wherever we liked.
The nearest shop we could find was in Dolgellau so it was useful having a communal fridge where you can keep a little perishable food.
The campsite also allows campfires and even sells kits with everything necessary to get your fire going. Obviously you can see around the site where these fires have been.
I would definitely recommend this site for a quiet and scenic holiday.

Ended up at this campsite because we couldn't find the other two sites we we're looking for and I’m glad we came across it! We arrived about 1 o’clock on a sunny Saturday afternoon and the campsite was about ¾ full. We camped away from the main site in the field that’s on the steep hill at the back (there’s plateau’s cut into the hill) which gave us a bit more privacy.
The facilities are great (newly built) and the views are good. Being able to have a campfire is great, in my mind camping isn’t camping without a camp fire.
I would suggest strolling along the Torrent walk which is 50m away from the site. I would also suggest though finding out where the return path is because we got to the end of the walk (by a main road and a school) and thought that was it…. So turned around and walked back, but apparently if you walk past the school the walk continues.
The only downside to the site is the road noise…its not really bad and you only notice it now and then but apart from that minor bad point it’s a great site which is well situated for walking and cycling.

Just returned from a 2 night stay with 6 adults, 5 kids and a dog. Nice site, excellent location. Quite busy due to Bank Holiday weekend but still plenty of space if you wander around. Toilets, showers etc OK, and they allow campfires which was good coz that wind sure did rattle off the hills!
The Torrent Walk is only 5 minutes away, Dolgellau a little further but not walkable with kids due to it being along the main roads and no pavements. There is a Little Chef nearby you can walk to though and if you can get a taxi (Derek's Taxis being the only one at the moment!) then the Royal Ship in town does very good food, has a nice atmosphere and is dog friendly. Ideal as a base for exploring South Snowdonia, and Barmouth went down well with the children.
No complaints whatsoever, but bear in mind if you go as a family and want to eat and drink away from the site then you either need a driver, or hope that Derek isn't booked up!

In a moment of madness I decided to have a weekend in a tent in February. I chose the Torrent Walk campsite as I'd been advised it was both beautiful and sheltered. Of course, nothing much is sheltered in Wales in February, but the reports were accurate enough!
The campsite was just what I was looking for, as my main aim was to find somewhere the family would like in summer. The toilets and wash facilities are excellent, and it's far enough away from main roads for the kids to have a good run about without getting unnecessarily worried. Factor in an Esso garage and a Little Chef within easy walking distance and I really can find no fault other than a wish for a nearer pub! That said, it's no long walk into Dolgellau.
I will review this place again after the whole clan have visited in nicer weather. But if you're an out-of-season nut like me, this place is 5-star.

This was our first ever camping experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it! The campsite itself is quite small but very peaceful and in a beautiful location. The toilets and showers were fairly new and very clean and the showers there were great.better than our home shower! They were also free! The owners were lovely and offered to help us pitch our tent if we got into difficulties (which amazingly, we didn't!). Campfires are also allowed, which we loved! Dry wood and sticks can be found from the lanes nearby. Dolgellau is a beautiful little village. We didn't have chance to experience the area fully as we were only there for 1 night, but we would definitely return for a longer stay to enjoy the area fully.
