Just returned from a relaxing week at Holmsley Camping in the Forest site. Lots of lovely walks, and places to visit, dog loved it. Excellent site, all staff really friendly and helpful. We have a fifth wheel and it was only our third outing we were really pleasantly surprised by how friendly and helpful the staff were when we arrived (special thanks to Simon). Previous sites we had visited made us fee unwelcome and a nuisance due to our size, even thought when booking we always make them aware what we are and our size. No problem on this site. Great location, beautiful and clean. Recommend the Pizza and chips from the take away. Will be returning.

We travelled as a party of 9, 6 adults and 3 children. We found the site really easily and fell in love with the views and ponies at first sight. The staff greeted us as soon as we arrived and made us welcome straight away. We have large tents and wanted to be together so they asked if we wanted to go in the rally area which at first I wasn't keen but when we walked over I changed my mind. We had the heathland right behind us where the ponies and cows gathered and a sty right behind our tent so we could pay them a visit any time we liked. The grass area in front of our tents was the size of a football pitch and very flat so the kids were safe to run and play which they did non stop! I took my son to the play ground on the first day and he enjoyed all the balancing and climbing frames but mostly he played by the tents as he is football mad.

The shop was well equipped with all the basics and more and the takeaway was nice and handy as our first meal. Excellent toilet and shower facilities and so clean and well stocked with toilet roll. We walked to the Rising Sun pub and had a lovely lunch there so had to go back for an evening meal and it was fantastic there was 9 clean plates and pudding was great too. You need a car at this site as you have to drive to supermarkets and shops. MY Mum and Dad did a cycle ride from Burley and had a fantastic day stopping at a tea room for lunch and said the views were amazing. We visited Bournemouth which is a sandy beach and lovely, Milford on sea which is stones but quiet and nice for a chill out day. We went to Ringwood which had some shops and a great bakers with yummy pasties! We visited Paultons theme park which was the highlight of the hols for both kids and adults! Apart from my partner needing to visit a medical centre for a chest infection which there are 2 in Bransgore I have to say it's been 1 of my favourite places to stay so far with outstanding views.

Lovely site spotlessly clean, good shop and takeaway service, very friendly staff would thoroughly recommend this site must have transport though as quite away from village.

Nice walks in surrounding area lots of ponies around.

We had a Motorhome and our son had a tent and was able to be next to each other even though we had electric and he didn't. Staff were very good stopping people going too fast around site.

Arrived in magnificent sunshine and was met by a cheerful member of staff at reception. Allocated a site which I could choose at leisure.

The site is big, very big and mostly flat. Plenty of pitches with or without electric hook-ups. Toilet and washing facilities very clean and tidy with plenty of hot water but were well spread out and you could find your pitch quite a way from any facilities if you aren't careful.

The shop was well stocked with all the things you have forgotten as well as a wide range of other items, even newspapers which most sites want you to order.

Walking in the forest was easy and we all, including the dog, enjoyed the location.

Could be manic in high season I guess but they must be able to cope otherwise it would be restricted.

Enjoyed every minute and would certainly go again.

Like others, we had some problems locating the site (have since acquired a better OS map). We were given a site plan at reception to show us where facility blocks etc. Are located but it was hard to relate what we saw to what was shown on the plan. We were given the run of the site as far as pitch selection was concerned but the site plan was of little help - we drove around until we found something suitable.

The site is part of an old WW2 aerodrome, with lots of concrete taxiways and circular dispersal areas. Pitching on these could leave you feeling as though you've parked on the roadside or a motorway service station car park(which has its advantages if it's wet, and most are level) but there are some grass level hook-up pitches off the 'roads' next to the perimeter hedges. It was fairly quiet when we were there, so access to off-road pitches may be more difficult in busy times.

The washrooms, etc. Were acceptable, but no more. Water-points, waste and disposal facilities were very basic in design.

The site is more within farmland and heathland than treed forest, so off-site walks were less enjoyable than at Red Shoot.

Staff were friendly and willing but seemed less professional than at most other sites we've visited. The shop was well-stocked, although the range seemed rather odd - plenty of non-essentials but lacking in same basics.

The amount of concrete wasn't to our liking, so we won't be returning. However, we appreciate that this is very much a matter of personal taste.

We used this site as being not too far away from home as it was out first outing with our Hobby Motorhome. We used SatNav to find the site but were guided 9 miles off track. We then used the web instructions which were also incorrect (turn right instead of turn left) which meant we had to make an awkward 10 point turn and had to stop and ask in a local house. The owner told us that he was asked several times a day.

However, we finally found it and were very pleased with our initial impressions. The site is very large with many unallocated parking areas both on the old run-ways and taxiing areas and some on the grass. There were many pitches without electricity, so be aware at crowded times. So to summarise.

Bad Points.

Terrible directions;

Only 10A electricity;

Limited number of electric hook-up;

One of the worst grey water disposal points we have ever come across - a hole in the ground which you can't even drive over.

Some boggy areas.

Probably very noisy in Summer as popular with young children.

Good Points.

Very attractive site right on heathland.

Plenty of hardstanding

Very dog friendly.

Loads of walks (Warning- don't use their instructions to walk to Burley. Total rubbish!)

Reasonable shop open most of the day.

Good take-away food.

Excellent heated shower blocks.

We would have given this a 9* but the dreadful grey water disposal point has taken 2* away. The worst we have come across.

This is the first campsite we have been too, we liked it so much we went back for a second visit in September.

The site is large, and so many different places to pitch up, all the fields are divided up by runways which my children enjoyed.

The facilities were great, the toilet and shower blocks were always clean. The shop was well stocked with everything you could want, apart from alcohol. They had bbq meat, ice cubes, bread, tomato ketchup etc. Next to the shop is a takeaway, which sells chicken, chips, burgers that kind of thing. Very handy when you turn up at tea time on a Friday night with 4 hungry children and they were reasonably priced. The staff are very helpful and friendly.

The site has a family feel about it, with a playground for the children, and everyone being very quiet during the night.

Rock pegs are a must, but I think that's quite normal for the New Forest.

The location of the site was ideal, plenty of space to walk and a short drive to local pubs, sainsbury's, petrol station.

We loved our first camping trip here and will go back.

Spent a lovely hot September weekend here. Chose this site as was reasonably priced and had a playground for my son and space for him to ride his bike.

We chose a pitch near the playground and the facilities which was quite busy but generally people were respectfully quiet especially at night.

The toilet facilities were always clean and they were closed around 5pm for cleaning meaning a short walk to the other block but this was no bother.

The shop stocked everything you could need except alcohol and they even sold bags of ice and frozen BBQ meat packs.

We ordered chips from the takeaway and they were nice and reasonably priced.

If you go into the site further than the immediate toilet block areas there are some lovely wooded camping areas beyond which would be worth exploring before pitching.

Georgous walks and cycle routes all around the site and blackberry bushes galore if you are there this time of year.

This site has a family feel without being too noisy.

We enjoyed staying at this site and will be returning for sure.

NB - you must take rock pegs!

This is the biggest camp site I've been to. The shop is large and there are a number of large shower/toilet blocks. Going to those blocks was the lowpoint of each day for me - they were clean but just badly designed, allowing inadequate ventilation - not nice. I would say that the children's play area is a bit basic and small considering the size of the place.

The location is excellent and allowed us easy access to the New Forest to the east (simply follow the track from the campsite) and Christchurch / Bournemouth by car to the west. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful and the price of the site was very competitive.

Pitches aren't allocated but we found a decent space without too much trouble. Being an old airfield, I'd agree with another reviewer that parts of the campsite are a bit like camping on the edge of a large carpark. Also, we found that a lot of people chose to drive around the site rather than walk. One family drove their four-by-four past our tent every time they needed to visit the shop or the other facilities. The traffic got a little wearing, especially as cars seemed to come in and out quite late at night (even though the gate is supposed to closed to traffic at 10 or thereabouts).

This is an ideal site to take bicycles to, just for getting around but also for venturing into the forest; we ended up renting bikes. This is very subjective but I have to say that I didn't particularly like the atmosphere on site; it felt very commercial and lacked the communal feeling that I've experienced elsewhere.

My family of four had a nice holiday there but I think I'd want to choose a smaller, more peaceful site next time. I did love the location, even if the site itself (with all that tarmac) isn't very attractive.

Didn't book, but friend on-site said there was plenty of space (New Forest Show week).

When we arrived we found the site only about 1/2 full with plenty of room to pitch without being within 20 foot of another tent.

The reception staff were very friendly and booking in was easy. We only paid £32 for 2 nights with 1 adult, 1 pensioner, 1toddler and a dog. Bargain!

We loved the little shop and the fantastic walks from the field out onto the heath and into woods.

All facilities were well kept, in-fact showers were a little too hot and my toddler who complained, but most people would love them I am sure. Never a queue!

We spent a whole day on campsite as the atmosphere was wonderful as the site was almost empty other than some families with very young children; a lot of people seem to head off for beaches, but being a local the peace and tranquillity were more appealing.

Didn't vacate site till 12. 20pm and even wardens walking around did not comment on my slow departure.

Loved site (2nd visit) and will return happily.
