Went here for the last few days of the half term. The site is good for kids, good entertainment and facilities, great for the beach and location but spoilt by the noisy seasonal neighbours. Complained to security but the residents were uncooperative and music went from 8am until 10. 30pm!

The site has such potential if the staff were a bit more helpful and practised regulating and implementing their park rules more!

On turning up at the campsite we were slightly worried, it was very busy and a bit off putting, but once there and pitched up it was a different story, busy but not overcrowded as we first thought. The amenities were lovely and clean all of the time and enough showers to take all the guests never had to wait. Outdoor swimming pool was manned all the time, the club house was good and kids loved it, the short walk to the beach is lovely and great for the kids. Will definitely return next year, reasonably priced

Our first time at Waldegrave and camping on Mersea Island was a pleasant surprise. My partner and I (plus two young Westies) would usually opt for a quieter, less child orientated site but as we we were camping with family (2 adults and 4 children under 12) Waldegraves seemed to be a good choice.

The washing up sinks, womens toilets and showers were always as clean as they could be and I never had to queue despite the amount of people. Beware though, the push button showers are set at quite a hot temperature (perfect for me though!) and although the cubicle is divided to allow for changing and keeping clothes dry, the floor is permanently wet so be prepared.

The shop stocked a good range of products, but you must visit the butchers in West Mersea (fantastic steak kebabs) and the Company Shed or Oyster bar for seafood. Restaurant takeaway was a bit pricey but portions were large and it was always busy. All the staff we encountered were pleasant and we didn't experience any problems.

Good location for beach walks (plus dogs were allowed which was great) and although not the most picturesque of places it was certainly a pleasant and relaxing week!

Living only 8 miles away we had never considered this campsite before, after having it recommended we decided to give it a try, we were extremally impressed to the point we booked another weekend the following week!

Toilet blocks were fine the cleaners did a good job but there was some dirty campers there that have no consideration god knows what their houses are like!

Swimming pool was lovely with 2 lifeguards at least at all times, shop was really nice with good opening times, food was really nice, children's entertainment was really good my 6 and 4 year olds loved it!

Only slight criticism quite a few dogs off the the lead normally with owners but from someone who doesn't really like dogs and doesn't want to be greeted by a dog, also some of the cars went a bit fast for my liking their are speed humps but obviously not on the fields,

Both of these criticisms are rules in the book so this isnt a criticism to the campsite but do be warned! will definitely be returning soon!

Spent the 2nd week of my holiday at waldegraves, 2 adults and 2 children, I must admit I was disappointed, the entrance to the site was via a industrial estate, the car park and pathways were of a black recycled chippings which looked awful, very dusty too.

Facilities were reasonably good, pitch and putt, tennis courts, sports court, clubhouses, takeaway etc, boat lake was filthy which I would not recommend, though the fishing lakes(4 in total) were superb

The touring area had grass pitches with water and electric, depending on were you were pitched, it could be a very long walk to empty the dishwater container and toilet disposal,

Toilet and shower block were sometimes dirty as a lot of kids are in and out of the toilets, I cannot blame cleaners for this as this is the responsibility of parents.

I have been to many worse places but this is one I will not be revisiting

There are two types of campers – those who like to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature and being away from buzz of normal life, and then those who like to have a party whilst on holiday. Waldegraves seemed to attract the latter.

The site is enormous and together with the sheer volume of people come unbearable noise levels, at all hours! In addition to the noise, the toilets/showers need more attention than they are given, they were not near the standards I am accustomed to nor desire. The staff should also spend more time on litter picking; on arrival we picked up two bags of rubbish and we could see much more around us over the days. I came home needing more sleep than when I arrived!

But once the crowds disappeared the site became lovely, a stones throw from the sea, so close you can hear the waves. So, I have mixed feelings about this one……. I guess 7/10 if it’s not weekend or a school holiday, but significantly less over a bank holiday weekend. It all depends what type of holiday you are after, just not my cup of tea

Just spent a w/end here with 2 other familys, 6 adults, and 4 children,

We had a great time on a lovely site, booking in was quick,

The pitches were good, nicely spaced out and each pitch had its own water tap,

We visited the swimming pool, both days it was warm and had two lifeguards,

The beach is easily accessible and nice,

The fishing lakes seemed popular and I watched someone catch quite a sizeable carp, 3 lakes in all.

The shop was quite big and well stocked not too expensive either.

The showers, toilets and washing up areas were clean water was hot enough and I didn't have to wait to use any of them, lovely weekend was had by all and we will return.

Well I have read all the reviews on this site, and all I can say, if you are that picky, don't camp, book in a 5 star hotel, because this is the best site so far to me, I have been camping now for 8 years, and I have been to many sites, but this one is the ultimate, we have no children with us, but if we had they would love it.

The pool is the best I have been in for a outdoor pool, you cant get a leisure centre with their pool at 82 degrees, amazing, and Rob the lifeguard, what a bloke he is, he is employee of the week for me, he really looks after the pool, and really enjoys doing it.

Toilets always clean, and very pleasant staff who cleaned them.

The Granary is a very pleasant place to either have a beer or dine, food was very good.

Played bingo in the Wheatsheaf, and watched football in the Barn, played bandits in the family room, and played pitch and putt too, then onto the beach for the men to fish too, I just cannot fault this place, only weather could have been a little better, but I am from the north, so the weather was fantastic to me, all in all, we have booked again for our main holiday in June, and cannot wait, thanks Waldegraves for a very good holiday, see you next year.

Just returned from a 4 day break here as it was recommended to us by a friend, and we often ignored it because it was so close to home (only 1hr up the road), but we booked a pitch anyway, just to see what it was like. Have to say, what a brilliant site.

Apart from the awful weather (anyone who went away during the Jubilee week will know what we mean), the amenities were clean almost all the time, despite the rain and mud everywhere.

Some of the pitches did get a bit boggy, but any surface water soon drained away after the rains stopped.

The shop was well stocked with pretty much everything you could need, but we never got to make use of the clubhouse or restaurant, so we can't comment on them.

Plenty to do, including fishing, pitch and putt, a driving range, and two children's playgrounds (we only found one, though).

Loved it so much, we're hoping to book another long weekend there later this year.

We went to Waldegraves at jubilee weekend - there was a large group of us - the whole site was crowded. the facilities were very small for the size of the site, the showers were horrendous - absolutely no power and every cubicle was just a dribble down the wall, so it was a case of catch whatever water you could in your hands and try and splash it over yourself - I did tell the staff and they were not at all interested - a real shame as we have been to Waldegraves several times in the past but have not booked again since
