We stayed here for 2 nights during the easter break. The site was easy to find but try not to over shoot the entrance! We had a choice of pitches as it was quiet, just a few hard standing, but be careful the grass pitches can get very soft!
Good shower block. Plenty of free hot water! Small site shop for basics but only a short walk to the village shop.
The 'Pub' was fine for food and a few drinks but was more like a working mens club!
Great dog walks, great scenery, and a short drive to Kielder Dam.

There is plenty of space on this very welcoming, Community owned site but if its wet, and it certainly was when we were here, it gets a bit limited for hard standings.
If you were in a tent, it might be difficult to get somewhere to pitch your tent that wasn't very damp.
The Site Shop is well stocked and very helpful and the Village Store is only a 10 minute stroll away and has everything you'll need.
Facilities are a bit basic and, with the rain, the toilets were far from clean but the showers were very hot and plentiful.
If you were looking to stay for a while, especially with children, you'd need to stock up, the nearest other shops are in Bellingham, a good 30 minute drive away.

We stayed here with our kalahari 10 in the first week in august 2011. The office doesn't take cards or cheques and we didn't have enough cash on us but this wasn't an issue and we paid later that week. The office advises people pay by the day as the midges are horrendous.
You can pitch wherever you want at the time we went, with BBQs and picnic benches scattered around.
The playground is pretty good, in good working order, it wouldn't suit older kids 10+ years though. It was cleared by around 9. 30 whilst we were there.
The toilet block is basic, one toilet with no seat the others often dirty. They are cleaned once a day but could do with a second clean, especially as the dreadful weather meant that there was mud and grass in all the showers and cubicles.
On the plus side it's a fabulous spot, very remote and a truly beautiful location. Kielder water is a fantastic place for walker/cyclists. There are lots of activities for everyone, but they can be rather expensive!
It's not the best place in bad weather, there are no indoor activities nearby, we went to Alnwick castle and gardens over two days and had a great time.
I would recommend this site but would definitely advise taking a couple of cans of midge repellent!

This site was originally built and run by the forestry. It is now run by the community, with profits being reinvested in the community.
It is a very friendly site, with a local pub. Don't be put off by the structure of the pub building. Good food at a good price, and Black Sheep is served in the bar.
It is a forest site, with all the elements that forest sites offer. Ground soft, midges and mud. But why let that put you off, that's what camping is all about.
There is so much to see and do in the area, we stayed four days, and are looking forward to returning.
As we are used to temporary camp sites associated with Steam Fairs and the like, we tend to be self sufficient in provisions and own toilet. However the showers were good and free.

Me and my girlfriend stayed in this campsite for a week. We took our bikes with us by having them carried on the bus with us from Hexham railway. When we got there we realized as we had our bikes we only needed to pay backpackers price so I had £60 in my pocket that wasn't spent, which made me happy from the get go ha ha.
The site itself is wonderful, views from every direction are brilliant. The facilities are kept constantly clean and the owners are friendly and very helpful. The last night we were there we stayed in one of their pods. It was a warm night and dry and very comfortable.
Recommend this site to anyone. Also Kielder is enjoyed more if you are cycling. The cycle routes are brilliant.

Kielder is a wonderful place and this site we found to help us in making the very best of our stay over four days.
I note a previous review mentioned there being not enough hot water in the facilities well I can say that with a new boiler installed the water is now piping hot.
Janet and Walter were very helpful and referred us to all the local amenities which we took advantage of including a substantial meal at the nearby Anglers Arms as well as very welcome tea and scones at the Kielder Castle Tea Rooms after our walks.
The local shop and Post Office in Kielder is small but seems to have enough in stock to meet the local needs.
We look forward to our next stay on the site when we will again enjoy the quiet, the sky without any influence of street lights and just the tranquillity of this place that is just beautiful.

This site is split into two with facilities in the middle - it's not that big but big enough! There is a pub at the bottom of the site - it looks like a 1970s throw back, we didn't go in there so I can't comment on the food but it seemed slightly out of place in this beautiful place.
Yep there were loads of midges so don't go in the summer if you want to sit out at night! There's a small shop within easy walking distance in the village and there's recycling and a small shop in reception as well. The toilet block was fine and there are three showers for the girls all of which had lovely hot water.
This site is right by the lakeside way so you can bike or walk - it's 27 miles long (if I remember rightly) so you might only want to do part of it! We walked (and some of us biked) to the Head in the forest - a sculpture - there are others further down the trail but you can't drive to them you have to go down the trail. There's also the castle which is the tourist information with a tea room and a maze which the kids enjoyed. There's a play area at the castle with two massive wooden xylophones which do work. The observatory is also nearby - we did intend to go there but the sky was always cloudy so we didn't see the perseid meteor shower either! The site also has camping teepees - wooden ones which cost £30 a night - a few people were using them.

Terrific campsite. Set in a lovely location. Play area for the kids which appeared to be a great social meeting point for them. Lovely walks in the woods and a nice child friendly local pub which served decent fare.
This all helped in glossing over the poor points which were lack of hot water in the shower block, it was tepid at best. (although to be fair they were undergoing some water problems and this may have been a cause).
The midges are lethal here, take repellent and candles to try and keep them at bay or be prepared to be eaten alive.
The toilet block was not the cleanest and if this was sorted then a 10/10 score would not be over generous.

This was our 2nd visit having also visited last year though in the September. The only thing that really spoils this site are the midgies, they really are horrific, so be prepared!
The pub at end of the site is only a short walk and the food was good, the pub at Falstone also does good food. On site there are BBQ's provided which anyone can use.
The facilities are ok though maybe a bit dated, but they were always clean enough. The couple who run the site are very friendly and always happy to help!
The trail around the reservoir is really good though quite a trek, we did it on mountain bikes.
We would probably go back but when it's not midgie season it would be too cold to camp there are however wooden pods which can be hired!

Good location near Kielder water and all activities (loads of walks etc). Friendly owner and helpful. (hot) Shower blocks and toilets good. Campsite is quite boggy in the wet and midge-tastic! as warned in other reviews but don't let this put you off just take wellies and insect repellent. No shop as such on campsite but not far to walk to local shop )Kielder village) or drive into nearest village. Beautiful surrounding countryside. We ate at the Grapes Hotel in Newcastleton which is really good food on a Saturday night (get in before 7 or may have to book). Overall good campsite and would visit again.
