Oh what a lovely heavenly site in a gorgeous wooded environment. Stayed for 5 days with our 5 year old grandson. He is normally such hard work but this location was ideal. We were able to pitch right at the small play area but as the surroundings are so natural he was able to let his imagination run wild when playing with the other young ones, no temptation to wander off far afield to find stimulation and we were able to sit outside our van and just watch him enjoy himself when we were not out exploring the magnificent area.
Needless to say being caravan club toilet/shower etc facilities immaculate.
The best few days we have had in a long time an excellent site in a beautiful location. Thank you

We booked this site travelling north as a night halt en route for the Orkney's and Shetlands. It's only about 10 minutes off the motorway and proved a brilliant choice. We booked in quickly and found a pitch tucked away in one of the many corners of this expansive site. They all appear to be hardstanding up to the usual Club standards and the facilities were excellent.
This was a very peaceful place and yet is easy to access the Lake District. Certainly we had enough time to make a trip to Hawkshead and around to Windermere to eat that evening! When we come back to Cumbria, we shall certainly return to this site as it ticks so many boxes.

What a fabulous site, we were so impressed from the onset, it is now our TOP venue on our list!
The Wardens couldn't have been any more friendly or welcoming.
The whole site is amazing with lots of little 'pockets' to tuck yourself into, you could be isolated (if you want to be a billy no mates!) or equally you could park with others in larger 'pockets' that was more sociable.
It is a very well kept site with excellent toilet and shower blocks dotted around the site.
It just had a lovely feel to it from the moment you went through the barriers.
Yes you may get a few midge bites but hey ho your in the middle of a forest for goodness sake! so just pack your jungle juice and crack on!
Lots of places to visit nearby, Kendal, Windermere, Grange over sands(which has a MEGA FAB butchers with every type of BBQ meats you can imagine!) all these are within a drive of approx 8 miles.
A Nice walk to the Farm shop and Cafe, and you must try Sizeburgh Hall for a coffee on the Terrace or take a picnic as they provide benches and chairs near the entrance so you don't even have to pay to go in.
We are already planning when to book again and we only got back yesterday!

We stayed here for a short break just before the site closed between the 1st and 4th November.
The Pro's
Set in picturesque woodland, the welcome was friendly and the site quiet for half term week, most of the site was already shut down in preparation for closure. The facilities were spotlessly clean and warm and there were a variety of walks from the site. This is the first time we've stayed on a club site usually because we leave it too late to book. We would definitely stay here again because its location is good for many of the lakeland attractions.
The Con's
More minor gripes really!
The access to the site is single track with passing places and to complicate things full of unavoidable pot holes.
Some of the pitches hardcore chippings have worn thin making them quite muddy, it was a pain to clean off the awning.
If your a bubble right between the black lines in both planes person then the pitches aren't particularly level and a little more tedious with our twin axle.
On the whole we enjoyed are stay and my minor gripes can be easily rectified. Just one more thing to bear in mind if staying in autumn is that the leaves get everywhere!

Stayed here for one night as we were heading back north on the M6. Wished we could have stayed longer.
This site has some great pitches and although a large site you would never know it as the pitches are all tucked away from one another, we chose to pitch up in a space with another 4 caravans, no straight lines in this site and all in a beautiful woodland. The toilet facilities were really kept to a high standard and have good hot showers.
We chose what I believe was the best time of year to visit this site as the trees were in full autumn colours, just beautiful!
Did not get to see the surrounding area, however will return again and stay for a few more days as staying in the woodland was a real treat.
Great for one night stays as this site is just off the M6, however no traffic noise.

We used this as a stop over on our way to Scotland (just off M6 near Kendal. Lovely quiet riverside site, set amongst woods and ruins of a former gunpowder factory. Staff very friendly and helpful and facilities up to usual CC standard.
Plenty of walking from the site. Strickland Arms is only a 15 minute walk along a quiet lane - great food and good selection of wine and beer and is dog friendly. Would definitely use this site again and take a map, stay a bit longer and enjoy the walking.

All of the staff at this site are so very welcoming & helpful.
You are given a map to go and choose your pitch which is nice as you can pick the best available. We weren't so keen on the ones in small groups as they seemed quite close, but there are lots of other spaces to choose from and some are on there own. There aren't any hedges separating the pitches and it did sometimes feel like you were looking straight into someone's caravan, but there are pitches on their own so not really an issue.
The facilities are spotless. Lovely clean, hot powerful showers and heated toilet blocks. All service areas looked after. We don't have any children so didn't use the playground, but it's there and looks fun should you need it!
There is a local Asda a few miles away, but the farm shop next door is well worth a visit.
My only fault, which is a personal preference is that it is far too shady! It did feel a little dark under all those woods. It also attracted lots of midges/some kind of biting insect so was very difficult to sit out and enjoy cooking outside as you were surrounded by them! No light got in so no chance of a sunny evening.

This is a fantastic site, one of the best we have stayed at.
The pitches are spread within the woods in small groups so feels quiet even when busy, beautiful to walk round, excellent facilities, exceptionally clean.
Very bumpy narrow road approach so care needed, so need to stick to the 12pm arrival rules.
Great tea room, nature trail and craft shop just round the corner, where you can also watch the cows being milked.
Would definitely stay again as great base for the southern lakes area and the coast.

Pleasant site, although for me there was just a little too much tree cover. That made it difficult to see the little sun there was during our stay. However the facilities were to the usual high CC club standard, the toilet block spotless and the wardens friendly.
The site is set up with a number of little cul-de-sacs so that it gives the feeling of being smaller than it actually is. The pitches are generally roomy but you'll need rock pegs for any awning you put up.
You have to drive for any kind of shops although the site shop has essentials.

Just spent a very enjoyable weekend at the Kendal caravan club site. Warm greeting by the warden, helpful indication as to what pitches might suit us (quiet area - bankside).
Very impressed with kendal, enjoyed a pleasant 3 mile walk which included the castle on the hill. Go to the excellent cafe, Artisan in Booths (the staff are lovely).
Generally the weather was very kind to us, although had blustery gales on Sunday when packing up.
Be prompt when leaving (12noon) as new people arrive after 12 and you wouldn't want to meet another van on the narrow lane into the site. Tv reception not great, need a booster.
Very clean and modern facilities. We love the site at Meathop but this was just as good.
Explore the area, it really is the Gateway to The Lakes. Going to book now for June.
