Stayed at this site for one week, and found it more than adequate to meet our needs. Very friendly wardens and immaculately kept facilities. Caravans sited in little clearings amongst the trees, a bit shady which was also a blessing in disguise at times as we had really hot weather!

There is plenty to do in the surrounding 'lakes' and the road links to Windermere etc were excellent. There is a fish and chip van that visits the site 3 evenings a week. A site we would visit again.

Agree with the previous comments. Had a weekend just after the May Bank Holiday. Our first visit.

Wardens were very helpful.

On arrival we were told that the water had been turned off due to a leaking supply pipe and they had not discovered where the leak was. Saturday morning a temporary overground pipe had been installed. Water supply was turned on and off so was not a particular problem.

On arrival we were given a plan of the site with areas we could not use highlighted. I am not sure that we would have wanted to use them anyway and found ourselves a secluded but not isolated pitch in Squirrel Terrace which was convenient for all facilities.

Very pleasant walk along one side of the river and back along the other bank.

Strickland Arms five minute drive but gets busy for meals and drinks so early arrival advised.

Did supermarket shopping at Booths in Kendal who refund one hour of parking against purchases.

Just back from an absolutely cracking long weekend at this site. First time here and enjoyed every minute of it. Plenty of brilliant walks from the site which is set in the national forest and you can buy walking guides from the site shop at 50p each. We did all of the walks and 2 of them went past some decent pubs.

Nearest pub to the site is about a 20 minute walk away where they serve food and are also dog friendly. It has a nice play park for the children and several toilet / shower blocks which means always one to use when the other is being cleaned. The pitches are spread nicely over a few different levels and plenty of parking.

The site is very clean and use to be a gun powder mill from mid 1800's until I think 1936. The ruins of the mill are still obvious. There is a large river running along the site which you can fish in (with a licence) and a great spot for the dogs to cool off.

The shop is very basic shopping wise so make sure you have everything for your first night as not a lot in the area and after 4 days there we never did find a supermarket in easy reach and even tried Kendal which was packed!

We loved it so much we tried to book for our 1st wedding anniversary in June but fully booked. Definitely going back though as one of the best so far.

We visited this site during half term so there were lots of children about. However, we did not find them a problem (despite not having any of our own) in fact we enjoyed their sense of adventure around the wooded site and both felt that we would have loved the place as children ourselves!

The site had a tendency to be a bit dirty underfoot in the damp weather, but that is easily remedied and it didn't spoil our enjoyment of the location. Great walks immediately from the site and in particular we enjoyed walking along the river into Kendal and getting the bus back to the end of the lane near the site, calling at Low Sizergh Barn shop for some yummy provisions.

We think we would enjoy this site more in early spring when the the trees would be providing less shade, but will definitely be visiting again some time.

Five star site with the best facilities I have seen to date in a CC site. The toilets / showers were superb, larger than average and very impressive. The wardens could not have been more helpful and were spot on. We arrived early and thought we would chance trying to get onto the site early and this was not a problem at all. The office was closed but a note said to leave your cc card through the door and find a site then return later on which we did after a 20 mile cycle ride through amazingly beautiful scenery and up a few hills! There is a lovely pub in Glanton which is about a 20min ride away on a bike or within a 10 - 15 min walk there is another nearer one.

All in all a lovely site and well worth another visit

We have just returned from 3 nights at Low Park Wood Caravan Club Site with my wife and two young children.

On arrival we checked in and were told were we couldn’t pitch and then given a option of 4 pitches were we could.I was told that the pitches at the bottom end of the site are reserved for large twin axle caravan although we noticed most of the caravans in this area were normal size. I got the impression the wardens segregate people with children and give the nice open sunny pitches to adults only parties. I told them our caravan was 22 feet however they didn’t consider this to be large.

As the site is in a forest most of the other pitches are a bit shaded, this added to the adventure for my son! We were pitched in a glade with 3 other caravan.

On the second day I asked for the key for the parent and toddler room as my children need a bath, they had been rolling around the floor on a steam train! The site wardens had run out of keys and wouldn’t unlock the door for us. They had to have a shower, not good for a 1 year old.

There is a pub in the area that is a 5 minute drive away.

In all a nice site but the wardens spoilt it

Just returned from Low Park Wood and what can l say it is fab, a well situated site with high trees and hard standing pitches. It is in a great location to visit the south lakes. The road into the site is narrow so they ask if you can let the people leave before 12 noon and the new arrivals after 12 noon so as not to block the road. The toilet and shower blocks are first class very clean and tidy. It is a very well attended site and l would have no doubts that l will be returning. The tv signal is not the best but there is a plug in system that you do need a digital receiver. It is very well priced at only £22 pounds a night for a tourer. The only one point is that there is a very small play area for the kids it would help if there was a field for ball games.

The toilets are very clean as you would expect from a CC site and the wardens helpful BUT if it is wet at all, which it frequently is in the Lakes, it is very dirty underfoot which obviously gets trailed into the van and toilets. (The ladies is situated between the two wash-up sinks and someone had been washing their dogs in them when we were there, the washup sinks not the ladies!) Also the overhanging trees make it very dark and dismal. It is one of those sites which you either love or loath, I wouldn't say I loath it but will give it a miss if possible. After three visits, I think we have given it a fair trial.

Excellent site, discovered by accident when we were struggling to find somewhere for Easter, some of the pitches are quite small and some are quite large, luck of the draw really. Interesting site with lots of trees and on several levels.

Very well kept, very friendly Wardens and good facilities. We were very lucky with the weather and came back from the lakes at Easter with sunburn, returned in August and came back early because of the rain.

Kendal is only a short drive away with all the normal shops and plenty to do. Variety of short ---> long walks from the site in beautiful countryside, definitely be returning when we can get booked in !

Caravan Site – The site is spread out over a large area, each section of the site is surrounded by high trees. The road into the site is quite narrow with very little opportunity for passing oncoming traffic.

At the bottom of the site is a large fast flowing river, the site also has a small stream meandering through between the trees and roadways. At night the site is dimly lit and a torch may be required for any late night trips to the toilet / shower block. The site also has a reasonable number of service points due to its spread out nature.

Site Facilities – The site has two toilet blocks with staggered cleaning times, both toilet blocks are extremely well kept, well lit and spacious. The shower cubicles are spacious with plenty of room in the dry section of the cubicle. The small play area has some very good quality play equipment for children aged about 6 to 12.

TV/Satellite – A satellite signal is impossible on most of the site, maybe 20 out of the 140 pitches could “see” the Astra satellites. TV signal is poor however a very good quality signal is available by plugging into the site TV bollard system. One thing to bear in mind, currently digital is not available and you can only receive 1,2,ITV and Ch4 (No Ch5) so a DVD player may be a good idea for the kids films.

Mobile Phone/Internet – 3G is available on Orange and Three (3G+ sometimes), Initially I did have a 3G+ (1.5Mb) signal on Vodafone however after day three this dropped to GPRS and did not recover? Not tested other networks.

The Surrounding Area – If you like walking it’s great, If you want the odd day out shopping or visiting attractions then a 30min + drive will be required, with the exception of the nearby National Trust Sizergh Castle and Gardens. While Kendal Swimming pool was mentioned in the site guide it looked a little drab from the outside when we drove past, we found a very nice pool a little further away at Lancaster, Salt Ayre Swimming Pool is very clean and tidy, normally the pool has 3 sections 1/3rd for lane swimming, a 1/3rd for general “bobbing about” varying in depth from 1mtr to 2mtr and the other 1/3rd and a learner pool 0.4mtr to 0.7mtr however the pool is very flexible with a movable boom and movable floors so depths may vary and are displayed on electronic signs the facility also has a warmer bubble pool and a single slide with 1.3mtr min height restriction.
