Stayed at wildboar Inn Cheshire. Field at the back very good fab views. One ladies loo, one gents, separate shower room and another one with loo and basin chair mirror. Hosts are very friendly.
It was a Sat and the pub is very lively with live music. The food is excellent a good range of beers. Will come back a lot I think. Not far from Congleton so spent Sun there.

Booked this one for one night as we were visiting Cappesthorne Hall. The owners were extremely helpful and friendly.
Campsite had some amazing views of the nearby fells and it was a bonus having walks nearby for the dogs. Facilities offered excellent value for money.
We will return.

Went here as a group we booked 19 spaces some caravan some camper van & some tents.
What a great little sight, the owners could not have been more welcoming & helpful 😄
We are a Beagle group & our dogs were also made welcome, this is a rare thing these days.
A back to basic type camp with everything you need for a weekend of walking with dogs & friends.
The evening meals were homely & just what you need after a long day out hiking. Fantastic views from the field and lots of walks straight off the site.
There was entertainment on the Saturday evening, a local fella who had a cracking voice and got everyone involved singing & clapping away. We all thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the whole weekend. Will be returning here again that's for sure.

This campsite is in a great location on the edge of the Peak District with lots of walks from the door. It is just a field behind the wild Boar pub. There is some electric hook-up, but other units had already taken all the points, though I can manage for a few days without power, so no problem.
The field was a bit wet considering it was July, so could be difficult after a lot of rain.
The views from the field are great - looking out over the Roaches and the surrounding hills.
The facilities are basic, but enough for a weekend. Pub is adjacent if you like a drink. I didn't visit.
Very reasonable price: £7 per person.

When I read the reviews of this site that are already on here, I can't believe we were staying at the same place!
I can't argue that the owner was extremely helpful when we arrived, basically telling us to pitch anywhere, we thought about others, and pitched accordingly, on what was a very wet, sloping site, with very long grass! Do not believe this site is flat, if it is, it's flat at an angle if you get my meaning.
The only positive we could offer for the site is that there was hot water in the showers, showers which were in extremely poor condition, generally dirty, but that seemed to be in keeping with all of the 'facilities', which were generally run down, in a poor state of repair, and as I must report bordering on unhealthy. We didn't use the 'washing up' facility which was outside, one old sink, (filthy dirty) with a cold hose supplying it.
There was no lighting on the site, given our caravan was on this field as described, using the 'facilities' after dark was perilous.
There was a hand written sign in the shower area which read, ' please do not wash your dog in the shower', seems to sum this site up completely.
The location was ok if you were a walker, in fact the area was quite nice, that is the only reason this scores a 5 on our otherwise damming review.
Would we visit again, not a chance!

The 2 of us pre booked for 4 nights stay touring caravan with electric. Hard standing pitch available. Ladies and gents Toilets, sinks hot water and one shower ( not that hot) available basic but ok. Made to feel welcome by Alan and Val, very accommodating, Alan managed to get all vehicles arriving on either hard standing or the car park as field at the top was too wet. Really busy Saturday as live entertainment available in the pub in the evening. Food in the pub homely. Atmosphere friendly, Saturday night was like being at a family birthday, really enjoyed the evening. Did loads of walking from the Wild Boar. Try the Wincle Brewery down the hill, good range of real ales to take away also the Ship Inn at Wincle had good range of ales and food, we purchased a short walks map book from the ship Inn which was useful. We will return to the Wild Boar to camp in the summer as we want to stop in the top field with the great views.

Just returned from two nights at the Wild Boar. The site is great for relaxing, even on a busy warm weekend. The views from the tent field really are superb - we spent our first day just soaking up the sun & admiring them. OK, we arrived early on a Friday so had just about the best pitch! Val the co-owner had told us to pitch anywhere and pay at the pub when it opened, which we did. Some arrivals on Friday evening had to pitch on a slope, but you'll find that on any site in hilly country.
Facilities are OK : 2 toilets for men, one with washbasin & shower, the other with just a tiny washbasin. I used this for my hands/face & brushing my teeth when the one with the full-sized basin was occupied. Didn't try the shower, but my mate said the water was hot. It's not clear whether there's a charge : there's a meter in the shower room that takes $1 coins but my mate just switched it on & it worked.
The facilities are in a portakabin & I thought adequate for £7 pppn.
Be warned though, there is no hot water at the (outdoor) pot wash. No problem for us, just boil the kettle. But it might be a nuisance on a longer stay or if you do a lot of cooking - we only cooked two breakfasts.
The pub itself is OK, good atmosphere, but not a place for real ale lovers - just one bitter on tap (Unicorn). On Saturday night as promised there was a decent singer on & the place was full & got quite lively, again with a great friendly atmosphere. Don't miss this if you're ever here on a Saturday. We didn't try the food.
There are no shops locally & for a supermarket you'll have to drive to Congleton or Buxton. The pub is actually on the main A53 Congleton to Buxton road so there is traffic noise, but we weren't bothered by it. The field is behind the pub so the sheep in the adjoining fields were actually noisier than the traffic!
One point about the location though : as it states on it's website, the camping field is raised above the pub. There were only mild breezes for the most part when we were there, but I would not like to pitch here on a windy day. I suppose being exposed is the price you pay for the wonderful view from your tent.
With that single proviso, we would return here again, we had a great weekend.
Finally, if you're in the area let me recommend a visit to the Wincle Brewery in nearby Danebridge. They serve a (changing) selection of their own real ales on tap at £2. 50 a pint - cheaper & better than the Unicorn at the Wild Boar which is £2. 80. They'll show you the tiny brewery & you can buy bottles to take home or back to the campsite. They're open 7 days a week till 4. 30pm. Just thought I'd mention it though it's nothing to do with the Wild Boar! It's in a lovely spot in the bottom of the Dane valley & I think you could walk here from the site (but we didn't as my mate had done his back in). Uphill back though.

Just had a very enjoyable stay here at this adults only site, sadly it was only the one night. The site is situated mid way between Buxton and Congleton on the A54 and is very easy to find. It is only a 15 mins drive to both lovely towns.
The toilets and showers may be a bit too basic for some but suited our needs fine. They were clean with plenty of hot water and loo roll available and coin operated showers.
There are stunning views in all directions but it is a little exposed should the wind pick up during your stay.
We chose to eat in the Wild Boar Inn in the evening and the food was excellent, the menu consisted of home cooked and locally sourced produce. We had the sirloin steak with trimmings which was delicious. A word of warning though. The Mixed Grill is only for those with the largest appetites! Consisting of 14 items!
Come nine o'clock the pub changed completely as more and more people began to arrive for the evening's entertainment. By the time the singer, Trev Moray hit his first note it was standing room only! Over half the pub were dancing before the end of the night and that included us!
We were provided with sandwiches/sausage rolls between the two sets which was a welcome surprise.
Overall had an amazing stay here and will be returning next year.

This was our first venture out in our new (old) Trailer tent and was looking somewhere relatively close living in Derby. We noted that the pitches were on an angle however this didn't put us off.
On arrival I noted the large ramp in very poor conditioned road leading up to the pitch area. Only having a 1. 5d Renault Megan I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get up. A few rev's and I was up. We were shown to the pitch and was a little bit disappointed that it appeared to be in the bottom of the field area and was quite wet. While contemplating setting up the worlds heaviest thunderstorm came over and the heavens opened. If the field wasn't wet before it certainly was now after 1. 5hrs of rain!
We decided in the interest of safety and common sense we'd move to the top of the field. This was slightly better but still really wet. No fault of the owners. Couldn't be helped.
Once set up it was to the local pub where we were made to feel very very welcome by Alan. We took our little Jack Russell and our 4 year old boy. Everyone made a real effort and I could have stayed in the pub all night had it not been for the boy being tired.
Toilet blocks are ok. Do the job.
The food is brilliant home made food and is highly recommended.
All in all a great 24hrs at The Wild Boar.

This camp site has space for about 4 caravans, and is attached to a friendly pub which does food, and music on Saturday evenings. The toilets and showers are clean. It is about half an hour's drive from Buxton, a beautiful old Spa town. The countryside around is good for walking.
When we went with our caravan in June, it had been raining and the ground was wet. Being at the lower end of a slope, it is probably often wet after rain and does not dry out easily. We were unable to get off the site with our car, which is not four wheel drive. A four wheel drive car got us off eventually.
I understand the pub landlord has a four wheel drive car and would help if needed. But it is worth checking, when booking in, that he will be available to pull your caravan off if you need it.
